Man I was talking to my buddy MCS, live in the same part of Jacksonville as me, and we have both agreed where did all the fish go??
It seems like the past few weeks we have not been catching the fish in volumes as we use to. The last fish I have caught was a 4.10lb, and two 2+lb fish on June 30th. I have been out EVERY day and nothing not even a bite.
I guess the hot weather is having an affect on the fish. I know in my backyard pond the water temperature is high so that could be another factor.
Judging by some other posts in these forums other states aren't having this problem.
Is anyone else in Florida, or anywhere else where it is hot, noticing that the fishing has slowed up?
Just give it a few weeks till that afternoon shower starts coming in. Looking forward to some peacock top water fly action in the coming weeks
If you are bank fishing you may not be able to reach them. They have gone deeper in the small ponds. In several ponds on a large horse farm you could catch 10 every 30 minutes within 60 feet of shore. Now you have to take a jon boat out to the middle to catch them.
Living in a coastal area you have a great fishery around Jacksonville, not a bad time to consider being a
multi-species fisherman.
I can hit one of my ponds and usually catch a few bass from shore, not 10 in 30 minutes. I don't think I'd want to catch that many anyway, be mostly dinks, not enough challenge for me. This time of year I prefer other options.

X2
Go deeper, and slower (sounds pretty perv now that I read that). Please drink lots of water to keep hydrated.

Gonna try out the little jetties Friday if all goes to plan. Reports say trout are hitting live shrimp under float rigs, reds are near creeks and structures. I saw another post you said a gold spoon might entice them.
So in retention ponds with no structure do they head to the middle? ( bottom is flat from toe of slope to opposite sides toe of slope) or would they hang out closer to the toe of slope closer to the bank because it is the same depth in the middle? Their only cover so to speak are weeds and culvert pipes. If I ventured a guess they would be dispersed in the weeds at the deepest depth and one would have to look for the openings or edges they wouldn't be in any particular spot. What is best for this? Carolina rig, if you cannot see the since I am shore bound? And some of these ponds are small enough I can hit the middle with a cast. Most of these ponds I am gonna to be pretty sure and say they are 6-10 feet deep. Most being 6, I have see aerials of them being built and know the biggest is not deeper than 10.

I was thinking that they moved to deeper water. I am working on buying a little jon boat that I can throw into my pond.

I think it is time for me to try a little salt water fishing now that the bass are in "hibernation" mode
One of my home boys just got back for fishing the beach in Melbourne, he caught a 42# redfish on the beach using an artificial shrimp on a j-hook. I understand the inshore bite is pretty good the more north you get, it's quiet in my area.

That is a awesome catch!
I have some artificial shrimp too, I keep hearing go live on the reports locally, but I have seen it done on either way. I was at Guana Lake about a month ago just to checkout the action and they were getting barely legal reds and trout on live shrimp, artifical shrimp and swim bait. they didn't seem too picky.
I hear Sept or Oct. is when the action really starts.
I live in Florida also around the pasco/tampa bay area and I have noticed that after TS debby.. the fish are gone

Yea man it seems like the storm just took em out the pond it is crazy
Yeah and their is hella snakeheads everywhere.. I have a feeling every river/lake/pond they head into they are ruining the bass/rest of lake population
Last year fishing was quite good but this year nothing really

I have yet to see a snakehead in my pond but if I do I am definitely gonna kill em, because I heard they do mess up the pond population

I was having a monster start to the summer since May 17th but last few weeks seems like I can't even buy a bass. I was pulling them in left and right now I only get like 1 every few days if that
About mid Sept or so the fall mullet run starts, that's when fish are everywhere and yes you can get a strike a cast on some days. Anything north of the Florida nipple is exceptional fishing, I'd like to be up there.
I went to lake Okeechobee yesterday and only caught 1 dink. I easily fished 6-8 areas to, inshore, off shore, rim canal, clear water stained water etc. I threw 10 different baits as well trying to get something to bite..
I fished Lake Tarpon yesterday morning and today, using shiners. Only gar and alligators

That is what I hear. My boss laughs and says wait til then and you won't fish bass ever again. Most people don't even fish freshwater up here except the river and that is mostly stripers. They love their sheepshead and kingfish in addition to the reds.
On 7/9/2012 at 12:22 AM, 808bass said:I fished Lake Tarpon yesterday morning and today, using shiners. Only gar and alligators
I usually kill the large mouth with shiners and I can not catch anything lately. I am a bank fishermen so they must be in the middle of the pond where I can't reach them.
I am bank fishing aswell. I wonder what is up
It seems like all the fish are gone to where u can't reach em
Yea I was fishing a man made pond yesterday with the shiners that were barely alive and caught 3 largemouth ranging from 1-2lb... today might of not been the day... thats what I am thinking
Man I was catching some nice 3 to 4 pounders on shiners and now nothing. An it seems like the shiners are hittin the water and then dying. Idk what is wrong if the water is too hot. The water I get em in from the bait shop is always cold so maybe when they hit the pond water they go into shock an die or something idk but I keep wasting my money. Buying bait is one thing but if u buy em and they die or you don't catch anything that sucks even more.

Pretty much how it happened for me, except I still bass fish.
Mullets runs are awesome, doesn't mean that's it's easy. Sure many times it's astrike a cast but just as often the bait is so thick they don't look at artificial. I've had times that I've casted over an hour into busting fish without a strike. That's the time to use live bait, sounds strange, not really if you know how to present your bait among the tens of thousands natural bait swimming around. The trick is to clip a fin, or cut the bait and make it swim different as it's in distress, your bait stands out and probably will be closer to the bottom of the bait pod. You freshwater guys, don't think clipping a fin on a shinner works, try it, you might be surprised. Fish are are fish, I don't care what body of water they are in.
Finally got one today after a huge fishing drought
I was using a 5" senko red shad colored. I will post the pic when I get to my computer
I've had no luck on Fire N Ice plastic worm when I was catching everything last year on them.
I've been absolutely stroking Largemouth lately on ripbaits in the 8 to 10 foot range. Baits like the Pointer 78XD and the Staysee 90 V3. Both in the Ghost Minnow color. Nothing huge. A handful of threes and fours, with countless dinks mixed in. Fish are all hitting it when paused for 3 to 5 seconds. The bite has slowed down a bit on them though. The Peacock bite is going off right now with the warmer temps. Pick just about any bait that's flashy and moves very quickly and you'll probably get bit. Slow rolling, and I mean slow rolling, swimbaits like the 6" Hudd is still picking up an occasional better quality Largemouth also. Weedless Shads and Grass Minnows are an almost guaranteed bite right now as well. Both of those are producing smaller fish, but fun nonetheless.

Yes sir, read about that in an article talking about using pin fish. Don't fish live bait much, ocasionaly when with my kids I will throw a tiny bluegill they catch under a float. I always mean to try it but never recall at the moment. But I prefer lures and to work all areas I can, you know keep moving instead of sitting around.
The whiting bite was on at the beach today. tide was out, the people that where catching crossed to the sandbar and cast out from there. They were catching them almost every cast.
BOOM 7" BEAST to end my 8 day fishing drought, caught him on a 5" senko. Looks like the HAWGS are back and biting like crazy now in my pond LOL

Thats nice right there. I may give a go at them on the weekend. Ive only been fishing snakeheads and catching bass on accident. If nothings biting Ill goto mayans and bream
Bass bite is definately down in north Florida. But i've benn hitting the Intra-Coastal waterway in jax and doin ok ive caught a few flounder specks red and hooked a few good lady fish... but live shrimp will definately work too. i saw about 100 reds feeding in low tide on shrimp but didnt have any live shrimp to fish with.. The freshwater bite is down but the salt is still looking good for you guys up in jax that wanna try it give it a go!
My main bait of choice for salt and fresh is the tsunami blue shad swim bait! Ive caught alot of bass on it (not lately tho) and lately the red, tout and flounder have been lovin em. I call it my fish slayer check it out!

Have you had any luck with the bass? I haven't caught anything... But I did catch a big ass turtle, on a senko, that I thought was a bass when I was reeling it in. They may be slow on land but they are fast in the water
Nah, but I'll be headed out this weekend and following week to find em.

Dude the summer killed me last year in VA.....It is hard fishing up there already, so much pressure, not too many smaller ponds to fish, then add heat. My buddy up there now is getting skunked everytime.

Went monday for probably 30 mins and got one your beasts size, maybe a quarter inch bigger but who's counting, was supposed to go this morning but plans changed, going to try tomorrow, might try a new spot dunno yet. I will keep yall posted. Friday evening I think me and the old lady gonna try and get in on some saltwater action.

I was gonna go salt water fishing this weekend too because I am sick of not catching anything on freshwater. I was out this morning and caught another small one probably 10" or so. The big ones must be hiding or too lazy to bite anything they have to work for

i have a couple small ponds around here next to my work and never see any1 fishing them but they are hidden behind buildings
Im like 40 shades blacker and my nose is peeling. Im almost purple
my friend told me this is the darkest Ive ever been, that sun is no joke
I may need to do some bass fishing so I can stand in one spot for a few hours

What were you doing that you got so dark fishing I hope.
and wouldn't standing in one spot for a few hours get you even darker than you are? Maybe you should do some indoor activities
Yes, from fishing, too much. Ive been walking the banks for miles in the sun catching snakeheads. The repeated casts and uneven terrain makes the sun more brutal....I can sit an fish senkos under a tree covered area all day or catch peacocks in a much shadier area than where I have been fishing. I may have to invest in one of those hasmat suits soon. I dont think I could stay indoors any more than I do now unless its raining and even then its still time to fish. I think a boat would take away the pain somewhat
On 7/8/2012 at 8:48 AM, 808bass said:I live in Florida also around the pasco/tampa bay area and I have noticed that after TS debby.. the fish are gone
This has surely had an effect. At least in two ways.
1) With the introduction of some much needed rain, the water levels have greatly gone up in Central Florida. In the past weeks I have been able to fish in places where there was no way that I would of been able to do before. If my boat is now able to get into these spots, you can bet that the Bass have moved into them as well. With the Bass moving into new areas it greatly spreads out the population and you may not be catching in spots where you used to. Higher water allows fish to feed in areas that offer a new/different food source. There are new weed beds now covered in water. One spot I fish I can hear fish splashing as they feed way back into the woods--- where there is no way I able to get to them. They have not left or stopped feeding just changed where they do it. It's up to you to find out where they have gone.
2) With the increase in water runoff due to the rains, there has been a new influx of Tannic Acid from the Cypress Trees introduced into the waterways. This causes the fish to feel "sick" and may not be feeding like normal until either they adjust to it or it gets diluted.
Fishing for me has now been hit or miss. One week I caught 14 with 7 being of legal keeper size, had I chose to keep any. The following week I fished the same area and caught 2 small dinks. Two days later a friend fished the same waters and caught 13 with 5 keeper sized. Several days later fished it again and caught only 4, but two were 4 lbs and 6 lbs.
The Bass are there. In Florida we don't have the deep drop offs and ledges that are talked about fishing this time of year, so what do we need to do? I'm finding that the Bass that are born in the shallow weedbeds and live their lives in them don't seem to move all that much when the weather gets hot. Fishing seems the best at first light and late afternoons.
Another idea is to fish rivers where there is current, and most likely some dropoffs.
Good Luck.

Went out this morning to a new spot, got chewed up by skeeters. Didn't fish it long, but saw a few nice top water strikes and I had a light tackle with me, no top water. No worm bites and the spot is hard to fish due to the brush and the reeds, but it looks like it might produce a good one. These ponds are about 10 yrs old. They are the two ponds on racetrack one is right opposite the dog track entrance. there is even a little spot to park. Looks like they were hanging out by the edge of the reeds and busting fish that were coming up to bust the bugs. give it a try, take bug spray.

I know the pond that you are taking about I was on my way home from St. Augistine yesterday and saw that little pond you are talkin about and I was going to check it out this weekend.
I am even going to fish the pond at the poker room because it looks like it holds some monsters even though it says no trespassing, that's probably because it does hold monsters

LOL don't catch a trespassing charge.....one of the two big strikes was big like 4 or 5 pounds big. it is just hard to fish there, maybe if you do the shiners and not have to try to cast in that mess.
If you wanna since you are in the area turn into Bartram springs right there is a pond on the right by the elementry school and a smaller one across the street by themselves think and they are not all over grown.

Nope Sorry man, I am talking about Jacksonville area. I forgot there is a racetrack road over there too LOL
I only Saltwater fished, a handful of times when I lived in St. Pete, I know some spots for that if your interested.
I also happened to run into the fish stocking list on the florida fish and wildlife site check it out man, Magiore and a few in hillsborough have been stocked with LMG and Blugills in the last few years.
There is a dog track on racetrack too lol
Well like I had said before it has been hit or miss for me lately. Today it was HIT HIT HIT.
My friend and I went out fishing on his boat today in the Lake Woodruff area. We put 45 Bass into the boat, including 9 that were real nice sized keepers. Two went 3 lbs and several were over 2 lbs.
Today we set three records for us. My personal best for Most Bass Caught in a Day, Our Best Day fishing as a Team, and for my friend the most Bass ever landed in his boat in one day.
Maybe things are starting to change back to normal after TS Debby.
I hope so man, will be good to get back to normal. Also I feel the full moon weeks are hard to fish normal fishing hours too. But regardless you had a great day, nice work! Congrats on all your records man!

Yeh I went yesterday and this morning caught a couple just some dinks not the size I usually catch at them. shakey head and wacky rigged senkos are the only things getting bit right now
With all the rain coming in the next few days should make for some good fishing. I like to run a top water right after a down poor.

Hopefully things are starting to change and you guys landed 45 fish that is a very good day. This is more evidence why I need to buy a boat or find a freiburg with a boat so I can slay these fish
Went bluegill fishing with my boys n dad today, they did alright. In between refing and baiting hooks I was throwin my new purchase some KVD finesse worms in mutilator, on sale at gander for 3 buck. Had two hits and misses. Stopped on way home at my spot had a 13 or 14 inch on 3 casts. Seems like temps are coming down and moon is going away, they are coming back.
That's good to hear I went ou and got a new tackle bag and a few soft plastics and crank baits so hopefully I get something tomorrow. I am goin to check out that spot on the corner of bartram and race track and I am going to this pond that I saw behind publix on race track, that shoppin center has been there for a while an when I went to pick up some things couple days ago I saw a few nice size bass close to shore so I know it has some fish in there
Man I'm still not catching anything
I had a 5 or 6 pounder on land couple days ago and then the fish came unhooked and my iPhone droped out of m pocket into the water and on top of that the fish did too. Sucks but still that was the only thing I have caught and I haven't been getting any strikes at all. My iPhone is fine but my fishin moral is dead lol
I don't know what is happening with these fish
Its been pretty tough down here in south FL. Went just for a little bit the last couple days, and all i caught was a sunburn. Good news is the snakeheads have been great the last few times i made the trek to coral springs, so i may head there again before the week's out to get some kind of confidence! haha. Good luck!

I am about to get me some scuba gear and a harpoon and then I will be guaranteed to catch me some fish cuz this casting from shore thing with a rod and lures ain't working no more lol

First ive been bass fishin in about 2 wks! Its lookin up tho! Caught all but one on the tsunami 4 in blue shad swim bait! Hope that helps your moral AK! Lol
Glad to see you had some luck man. I have those exact swim baits in my tackle bag. I've caught a couple with them in the past, my girl likes to use them all the time when she doesn't have shiners she has had luck with them.
I need to find new fishing spots message me some if you don't mind sharing some of you good spots.
Big "O" is still hot good bite in the am slowing down when the sun gets high
take a 3/4 oz jig, you can throw it a mile and just drag it.
I live in Tampa man and its the same here, i have a spot that i go where i know i will catch at least one fish. but its like someone turned off the bite button last few weeks. its getting hot and they changed feeding times i think. try this, go hit your spot at about 10 pm and even if you don't fish you will see them hitting the water feeding. it just got too hot takes more time for the water too cool down

Yea I've been fishin a little at night but keep getting killed by mosquitos. Today I only fished for about 20 mins before I had to take my son to the doctor and I actually saw 3 fish all atleast 3# chase my lure to the shore so that is a good sign that things will be pickin up. I use to see them everywhere and recently haven't seen anything so now that they are visible makes me think things are going to pick back up.
I am gonna check out those ponds in Wold golf village you told me about on Sunday. If I get anything worth sharing I'll post em.
This year isn't much different than any other year, I do very little bass fishing in the summertime. Between the uncomfortable humidity, the pesky gnats, slow bite and smallish fish, drains my enthusiasm. 20-30 minutes in my backyard pond is enough for me, I don't get aggressive for bass until late November.
Florida, and I'm sure other coastal regions as well, offers excellent opportunities year round. When the bass turn off the ocean turns on and when the ocean turns off the bass turn on, ain't mother nature wonderful.

Bass master magazine's pole of PGA Tour folders voted the course at the players best bass spot on tour. Get on the courses around here they are loaded for sure! And that culvert with lily pads at the WOG exit on 95 looks super fishy lol
Hi guys,
I fish in ponds off the bank in SW FL. I have had the same experiences as you guys since TS Debbie, The bite has gotten a lot tougher. Instead of catching at least one 4 or 5 pounder per outing, I've been catching mostly smaller bass ( less than a pound to 3 pounds). Almost all of my fish post TS Debbie have come on T-rigged worms. Prior to Debbie I did well with spinnerbaits and crankbaits. Lately most of my bass have come from areas with wind or drainage produced current. The area along the bank, which had been super productive, has been pretty much devoid of fish for me.
south florida summer fishing .... fun in the sun
Peacock fishing is better when its hot may want to look into that.
Well I broke the curse, cause I caught about 5 bass ranging from 1lb to 2.5lb at about 1pm-4pm with a original zoom trick junebug

nice job, gotta love them trick worms. I will be out tomorrow with the boys n definitely Monday been dying to get back to my spot after I spied a hiding place last week. Hope I have as good a day as you man.
thanks man, good luck to you too
I have had the same Bad luck fishing in west palm beach but today I found a small golf corse lake and had a great time 4- 1lb fish 2 -3lb fish and a NICE 21inch 5LB fish. I was starting to think that there were no fish left down here.
I scouted out some lakes at World Golf Village today when I went to Gander Mountain to pick up some lures and I am going to fish them tomorrow morning. I am taking my girlfriend and newborn there and am going to spend the day. Hopefully I catch something worth posting and best believe I will take pictures.
On a side note when I was checking out one of the ponds I heard a big splash in the distance looked up and just saw ripples. Then my cell phone rang and I answered it. I was walking to my car about 10 yards away from the bank and dropped my phone. I picked it up and when I looked up in the water there was a gator looking right at me probably about 20 feet from shore. I went to take a picture and he went under... I waited for another 5 to 10 mins, far away from the shore of course, to see if it would pop back up but it didn't.
I will be fishing that pond tomorrow hopefully I can get a shot of it.

I was heading to the lake years back and it was before they put the 710 Sunpass lane in so I used to go to PGA an then west to 710.
A little kid was climbing over the fence that boarders PGA Blvd where that Pad filled canal leads to the course. About a half a mile west of the Turnpike.
He had a stringer of bass in one hand and a rod ion the other, they went about 25 lbs, with a couple of 5s and one that looked about 7. he was running like he just hopped over a prison fence,
Me and a couple buddies went the day after we caught 9 and we caught 5 a couple 3# and another4.5# !! That day i was using the Strike king Coffee tube jig magic goby color texas rigged it was working wonders i missed a few on it! I also went yesterday and caught 4 bass on various worms around hydrilla about mid-day! But i def say invest in some of those tubes i was using the 3.5 inchers around cattails!! ill upload some pics soon!
Went out around 1:00pm today and only fished for about an hour and a half but, I was able to make one catch within the first 30 mins.
Judging from the background and there being alot of submergent vegetation aswell... what are some good baits to use here? I'm catching them at a pretty good rate on the zoom trick junebug color... but nothing else is working..
Senkos always work wonders anywhere I would throw a black and blue jig also I'd try a top water frog
Took my oldest out for some before school bass'n and we (I hooked and handed it over - he caught it LOL that is the way it should be right ) landed this, checked out a few hairs over 2 on my cheap scale. saw many schools, after we hauled this one in a group of similar size swam by and some massive carp. Found out what they were eating as this guy had some fish in his gullet. d**n near swallowed the hook and worm. but by the time we located them and reeled this one in it was time to go. Still good way to start the day, way things seem to go in this pond you would never know you were in summer.

Thanks and good luck man. I think today should be good. I think the no moon and the temps are back into the normal range. Seems like the high 80's low 90's don't phase the bass around here too much. But by the end of the week they supposed to be up in the mid to high 90's so they might go back to deep sleep mode. The water was clear and the fish were very active, carp, bluegills and LMB(schools of small to bigger) were swimming all over once the sun came up over the trees, before that it was dead.

Thats good old florida fishing for you love pulling in a 5-6 pound fish with 4-5 others in tow
The fishing seems to have picked up a tick for me also. This morning was overcast and a little cooler than previous days.
I managed a 12"er to start the day off. I got a 4 pound plus fish next to the concrete of a spillway. I finished up with one a little over 3 pounds. I got them all on a Booyah Blade spinnerbait. The fishing certainly wasn't fast and furious but it was an improvement.

Not a bad day......What area in FL are you located?
Went out today with pondslayer and lookinoji at one of their spots and caught 13 between us. I only got 2, lookinoji got 5, and pondslayer got 6. Nothing too big though I think pond had the biggest at 3 something. The two I caught were 2. And I think the biggest lookinoji had was 2. I left before them at dark so they probably caught more.
Thanks for showing me a new spot guys I had fun
Thanks MCS, I'm in the Ft Myers area.
On my way to work yesterday I stoped at the Lake behind Target on 441 and okeechobee Blvd there was some one just getting there to fish as well turns out it was Sirsnooksalot did not catch much but it was cool to meet some one for the forum. Later that day on my way home I stoped at a Park in Green ackers threw a few lines only cought 2 but the first was a solid 5lb and the second was just over 4lb great way to end a day.
I might head out today, hoping for some good luck and some good pictures. Hopefully the heat will not affect the fish that much..
I'm betting Broward should see some good fishing this evening!!!!! Warm day high UV index and 50% chance of rain in the afternoon. Love Florida summer fishing, afternoon rains get them nice and active topwater fishing at its best in Florida
Now chop chop and get to getting
It was nice meeting Qnormus the other day, I didn't have a strike on my fluke and he caught a bass on his first cast with a senko.
Yesterday morning I was fishing the outgoing tide, had one snook on for less than a few seconds and that was it. Sun up came and I put a spoon on, big mistake not using wire, first cast and I get cut off on my newly purchased lure that was used for the first time. I put a wire leader on and caught 1 small cuda. I went to my pond at home and did some bass fishing, the humidity and gnats chased me out, the dinks were active on a senko. I'm getting ready to head offshore in a couple of hours.
I haven't fished in a couple weeks. Tried a couple times, but got chased off by weather. Gonna try the lake tomorrow and maybe slims tourney on Sunday.
i did head off shore this morning for a few hours, west wind, calm and slow bite. We ventured out to 150' where we saw fish busting, thinking they may have been dolphin. I took out my mh inshore rod that had a spoon on it, as I'm retrieving my 8000 spheros gets hit and the fight was on. I gotta say I was gaining on the fish but a real slow go, then my 20# mono snaps with my drag set to let the fish run. 10 minutes later on the same rod, same story, line breaks. Once again I hit get this time on my Avet, rod nearly bent in half, I can hardly turn the crank but I'm making headway, my rod bumps the bimini top and my 30# mono breaks off losing about 75 yds of line. Result zero fish in the boat, sore back with 1 chiropractic visit and 2 new spools of line purchased. Way it goes some time, just wish I would known what was on the other end of the line, just a guess, some very large kingfish, but who knows.
I went out again last night and was able to catch a few small bass... this one being my biggest...

Sounds like a nice adrenalin rush in the morning!
My guess - Bonita: They are thick as thieves right now and running in the the 30-pound range.
I went out with Bruce (bocabasser) to Okeechobee yesterday. Really tough conditions...hot, bluebird skies. The fish are scattered and not extremely active which makes it pretty tough. But we caught our share of fish....we caught them on the ledges, in the grass, flipping, cranking rock humps way offshore, dragging worms in deep holes...We called it a day at noon, just too hot. But I enjoyed the trip. Bruce can find the fish, no doubt...
I'm going to pass on Slims tourney, tomorrow, at Okeechobee. Just two busy right now. I'll do a little snook fishing on the beach with my son tomorrow morning.
If you can stand the heat, the saltwater bite has been great this week. Lots of fish to be caught right now on the reefs as well as offshore. My deep freezer is packed once again. The next few days at the marinas should be much nicer now that most of the people have left with mini season ending. Catch the tides right, set out a few blocks of chum in 40 to 80 FOW and you'll load the boat with snapper in no time. Dolphin are out there also. Found a good school yesterday. Smallest fish was about an 8 pounder with most in the 12 range. Great table size. There are still some sailfish around, had to put up the kites and live bait to get them going though. Awesome fun on lighter spinning tackle.
So here is my question to all you long time florida anglers. When is does the "fall pattern" start? October?
It is a little cooler here, mid to high 80's versus low 90's in august. and about 10 degrees cooler at night, but I am not seeing anything coming shallow yet. Still fishing like summer so far for me. Any thoughts or advice?
Thoughts, yes.........advice, no.
I've cut back my bass fishing the last couple of weeks, even though it's been a bit cooler the humid seems to be higher and the gnats have been out in force. When I do get out the fishing as had some very active days and dead ones, the fish have been puny. I won't get too focused with my bass fishing until the mullet run is over, hopefully that won't be until sometime in November. At that time I'll be fishing a lot more, about 4- 5 hours saltwater in the morning and 2-3 hours bass in the afternoon.
I have been catching nothing but babies. I am talking like 4 to 6 inch bass attacking my 5" senko. I was out today around 4 pm in my backyard and saw a nice 3 pounder by shore but I scared it off and caught a little 4" bass
there are many variables, and a big difference when you consider north fla. to central or south fla. but in n. fla. we have more of a temp change than the rest of the state.length of daylite coupled w/ water temp triggers bass movement.the length of daylite is approaching the right time and then when the water temp gets and settles in the mid 70's you'll see the bass start to move more predictably.even now a couple cool nights will cause some bass to move prematurally and spark a short bite.the window of opportunity is brief but can be sweet.there are some fish in transition already, starting to move to intermediate points ,weed edges ,a little shallower depths. all depends on the body of water.

Good info thanks. I know what you are talking about, I have had a few days that were insainly good shallow, topwater. but most days are still fishing like july or august, slow and slower out deeper or in shady strucutre.
From 6:30 to 7 am blue gill colored Bitters skippy shad got me a couple of nice fish, 2-3 pound range....was on the way to work and couldn't resist.
I don' t know about fall pattern but down here in s Florida I seen beds as early as October.

Jeeze no wonder you don't know about fall patterns lol, spring summer skip back to spring lol but we get a little cold snap up here, gotta wait til I hear Jan or Feb for first beds.
Well it's still summer in Delray Beach, quite humid and what bass aren't lethargic are running tiny. As far as I'm concerned Fall doesn't start until the end of October. I like to target the species that are " running", won't be focusing on bass until I think it's time, which for me isn't now.
SirSnook same here on the west coast. I hope after the water cools a bit more they will get more active. I like fishing but it's hard work somedays just to get bit!!! I need to get back out on the boat...
What triggers the bite for me is the first two cold fronts that come through. What I mean by this,is the first two that have a noticeable change in air temperature (chilly). This is when the specks start to bite and the bass seem to really to turn on.Keep in mind you need about three days of stable weather following said fronts. Then the fishing can be fantastic.Good luck, it should happen soon.

Great bite the last two weeks, as soon as that front left Wed it has been DEAD! supposed to warm and be steady mid 80's so hoping the consistent temp and a week of warmer brings the bite back for next weekend.
