Who's ready to get back together?
From the guys I've talked to, it seems that several members are ready to meet up again to do some fishing. Doug mentioned something about hitting the south end of Lox towards the end of next week at some point. I believe Kevin and Shane were both game for that. I'm good to go whenever as long as I've got a few days worth of notice.
Ideas on where or dates?
Eric, I'm just returning from a 3 week trip to China. I am definately in the market for some serious fishing in the coming weeks. Last time, it seemed there was some interest in doing a get together at Okeechobee. It would not take too much arm twisting to get me to go there.
I was wondering why I hadn't heard from you in a while, Mike. Thats one long trip. Looks like I may be heading over there before too long myself to do a launch event for the Mini Cooper.
I'm always up for hitting Okeechobee. Doesn't really matter to me though. As long as theres fish in the water, I'm good to go.
Yeah man, me too. Loxahatchee...Okeechobee can't go wrong either way. I just wanna catch some bass.
Send me a PM if/when you get close to your China trip.
I am in, went to the Refuge on Sunday and last Tuesday, for every bass landed I had a pickerel or a couple of bowfin in the boat. Also, lost two frogs to GATORS and a Kopper's Live Target lipless crankbait! Water level is LOWEST I have seen in years, most of my better bass fishing came from around water control structures. I would rather launch from twenty-mile bend ramp. Anybody else experience the JUNK bite at the Refuge lately? Seems like as water drops every species is more concentrated and the Gar, Bowfin, and Muddies rule the roost!
Big "O" is on fire though, tons of fish to catch around King's Bar, Horse Island, and outside edges of Dyess Ditch. If you can't catch 20-50 keepers in a couple of hours you should not be considered a bass fisherman. Bigger fish can be found, but you need to search.

Did I see you last tuesday a mile or so from the ramp in the canal? After I passed I thought the boat looked familiar? I was at Lox 3 times last week with friends and for the three days we boated more than 30 fish over 4# some were in the 6-8 class. I'am definately up for Lox but the Big O....??? Wed, thurs, or friday works for me. Any other day and i'll catch yall next time.

Which ramp? If it was the Boca or Boyton ramp it was not me. I was on the Southern Blvd/PBSO Sheriff's firing range ramp (Northern most ramp). I basically just fished all the water control structures South and the canal right at the Eastward bend. Should have I explored the flats? I was there from 3 to 7:30 PM last Tuesday and this past Sunday.
whats up my brothers! i'm in. i prefer lox because it is HOT and the gas prices are killing me. i don't have all the money you cats have. either way i'm in. let me know dates and place. looking forward to it.
I will be down in the WPB area (from NoVA) on Friday (4/8) and looking to fish (fresh or salt) that morning (some PM too). If anyone is fishing, I would love to join you if possible.
Ernie
Looks like hitting Lox up is what most people are preferring. The only question is what day and ramp. Next week I'm good Friday for certain. Probably Wednesday or Thursday as well. Lox road is closest to me, but that doesn't really bother me much. I'm good for whatever ramp everybody else is comfortable with. I'll leave that up to you guys that are more familiar with the area. I've been out of Lox Rd. and thats it.
I'm in Disney World right now and had to sneak down to the lobby to use the public computer. I have to make this fast before the wife gets suspicious as to where I've been, LMAO. I'm in but cant go this Saturday, the 9th. It's my anniversary, but anytime after that is good with me. Any location is good too. Gotta go.
I sure hope its lox road and on wed, thurs or friday of next week. I'am in for sure!!!!!!! The place is definately on fire . I'll bring some JD's frogs and monster worms to give out......afterwards.
Sorry ..i had to explore the new emotion icon list
Ok, I'm back. The wife sent back down to the lobby so here I sit with my PopTart and milk .
Thursday of the next week, 14th, is not good for me because I have a tournament at 6pm, unless we go to lox in the morning and I'm back in Lake Worth by 3pm.
I have a 19' tracker so I can take me and 2 guys if necessary. It would be easier to decide when and where to fish if we knew what part of the day we were going to fish, morning or evening.
Friday of next week works best for me.
Hmm. I may want to get in on this too. Lox used to be my regular bassin spot until this KOTG thing got going. I have good memories of those flats during the spring
I am out on this trip guys sorry. I am boatless for 4-6 weeks or so as my tin is in for warranty repair.
Tear them up!!!!
Lox mid/late next week sounds like a winner...
Dale, I'm sure there is a backseat open for you if you wanted to go that route.
Eric, maybe we can start putting together a boater/non-boater list??
I am good for either the Lake or Lox. I would prefer the south end ramp at LOX but can do anything. BTW, they are really enforcing this new 35 mph speed limit at Lox so watch out if we go there.

Dale,
What happen to the boat? Run too shallow or something :-)
Had two stress cracks in the hull. On the way to Missouri for repair.
Ouch, that sucks, Dale. Sorry to hear that. Hopefully they get it fixed quickly and don't screw around with it up in Missou. I've heard some horror stories from people that had problems with warranty work.
I'll put a list together, Mike. I'm trying to drain my Jon right now. I left the cover off last night and it absolutely poured over here. Good thing I keep it hooked to the ground otherwise it might have slid down into the lake.

In inshore saltwater & intracoastal the snook & tarpon are starting to show up, pompano and jacks on the beach or piers. Offshore cobia, amberjack & kngfish are hot, some sailfish still around.
I missed the last get together, so I am looking forward to going to this one.
Lox would be great. The south ramp would be my choice.
Any week day is fine. I am working nights so I will have to take some hours off. Hopefully we can decide over the next few days.
Dale, don't be a couch potato on the day of the get together. You know you've got a spot in my boat. You can even fish on the front deck.
Doug.

That mean you're going to get out of that sissy seat on the front deck for a while?
Got a couple of other PM's tonight. Seems like most people want to head out on Friday. April 15th, hope you have your taxes done. I know I'm ready to go vent my frustration for the IRS on a few fish.
Lox Road ramp work for everybody? I'm going to make the assumption that everybody wants to get out at first light to avoid some of the heat in the afternoon.

Shoot me a PM if I've completely screwed up your plans or if you're already riding with somebody else.
Eric, something came up. I can go Wednesday but Thursday / Friday are out for me. Have a surgery on Thursday. I dont want to upset the whole plan, but if Wednesday works for everybody then I can make it.
i believe i can get friday off. monday through thursday of next week is rough for me because it is fcat week. i am almost certain i can take friday off.

For the record and since everybody else's name is up, I'm a "Dave". I'd be happy to have a non-boater come along
I've never been to lox. what are the directions to ramp, coming from plantation
It is located north of Parkland, 7 miles west of 441/SR7 at the west end of the Hillsboro canal and Lox Rd.

Looks like the guys over at JD's Custom baits will be pouring some stuff to hand out to everybody Friday morning as well. Anybody interested in doing a big fish pot again this year?

Dan from JD's Custom Baits sent me a picture of a 30" bass caught today at Lox on one of his baits. Estimated at 10#'s.
Wish I could join you guys but I'm leaving town next Friday. Make sure to post some pics and good luck
You guy's have fun! I'm headed to Lake O tomorrow to wear out the 11 year old on schoolies (So he has fun on something besides video games), then see if I can upgrade my personal best for something I can post on the "State vs State" thread. I've caught bass, had fun with dinks, but would love to catch a biggun.
We'll be up at the north end in a Red Stratos.
Then we'll catch some panfish for a fish fry, with sweetcorn bread, cheese grits, and turnip greens.

Post it up Shane, let's see that Frog Assassin!
Bud R.
i just got a couple of bags of those frogs at the 4th round qualifier of the kotg series. never tried them, but after those pics, i will certainly be giving them a go.
They're not bad, Bruce. They've got no salt in them so they're very durable. They don't really sink much. Once it hits the water and you start cranking, it's up on top kicking. It's also a little bigger than the normal frog like a horny toad or a cane toad.
I got a text a little while ago from Dan from JD's baits who brought up an interesting point. Lox could well be closed next week with some of the government shutdowns. They're closing national parks and whatnot. If that is true and does happen, anybody have an alternative place? Holiday Park, Ida, Osborne, etc etc?
I'll do a search to see if I can find a phone number of who to call to get some information.
Osborne is best in the evening, I don't know but it just is.
Lake Clarke is good whenever.
I don't fish Ida enough to know.

If we can't fish Lox, than I am most likely out.
I'am 20 miles deep in the Big Cypress national Park untill monday morning. I hope they don't lock me in.
If they do close the refuge, alligator alley might be a good alternative.
Hopefully they will come to some kind of agreement and we can fish Loxahatchee.

If the closings go through, you've got until Monday 6 p.m. before everything gets locked up.
Supposedly everything gets decided tonight at midnight.
That is one big bass, Shane. Probably the biggest I've personally seen caught out of Lox. I know theres alot bigger ones swimming around there though.
You guys are making me seriously jealous. I haven't had the boat out in a month...had to take out the golf cart tonight. Caught a bunch in the 2-4lb range and one good one (~6) flippin a Bruiser Intruder and pitching jigs. Picture not too good...was losing light fast and I wanted to get her back quickly.
Good fish! I hope you can get out with us.
Has anyone caught a snakehead at Lox? How about a Peacock? A friend was in the boat with me and he swore he had a good sized Peacock on. I did not see it but have no reason to doubt him.
If the Lox closes then I say we sneak in the Boynton entrance and fish the observation ponds. No government means no law enforcement
It appears our get together will be a go.
WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama and congressional leaders reached a last-minute budget deal on Friday, averting a government shutdown that would have idled hundreds of thousands of federal workers.
Was just reading about it myself.
Thank god. I couldn't believe some of the stuff they were thinking about shutting down. Time will tell though. This is a "temporary" extension.
Yep. They put a bandaid on a gaping wound. But at least we might get to go fishing.
Looks like it will be on next Friday then. First light to noon?
Looks like I'll be riding with Doug.
Completely up to you guys with boats that don't have a backseater if you all want to ride with each other or ride alone.
I may have a backseat open or will ride with a boater, will know better by the middle of next week.
It's Been a long time, love the new look of the site, had to re-set everything.
Looking forward to meeting you guys and seeing some of you again, looks like there might be some rain in the forecast next week which will turn the big hawgs on, the evening bite has still been good at Lox 4-6 pounders.
See ya All on Friday!!!!!
im in. lox is hot right now. the water is super low, be careful.
Hey guys, Let me know if there is any back seats still availible. This is Krzkev. I am having a hard time getting my original account back. Kevin or Robert, have you guys filled your back seats yet? I will try to get off work if there is a seat availible.
Im down for friday if I can get that day off. Never been to one of these get togethers before, is it a meet and greet? Or a mini tournament amongst friends for bragging rights?
Just a meet and greet. Meat at the launch and meat back at predetermined time to compare notes/fish. There are no tourneys allowed at Lox. Of course we want to see the big fish. It's alot of fun to put faces with screen names. Hope you make it out.

Hey Kevin,
I am not sure if my son is going. I will find out on Monday/Tuesday. If not, the seat is yours.
I am still not 100% sure either, probably 90%, I will have to take a vacation day as well.
I haven't been on Lox in a month but my last time out there it was pretty skinny on the flats. My boat drafts 9 inches of water and I was having issues. If you want to fish the west canals, from the Lox road ramp you will have to run across ~2miles of flats to get to the cut that takes you to the canal system. Just a heads up...
I hope you guys slay em! I'm out for this one...

Boca,
I was wondering if it is possible out of the Boca Ramp to run all the way West to the western most flats and cut back into the main canal to fish the water control structure before the big turn North. I am worried that I can't run the flats even at wide open since the water is so low without losing water pressure and coming off plane or bottoming out. What's your take? Should I leave the Ranger home and run the jon boat? If so Shane I am following YOU

Years ago,you could run the west canal around the bend all the way to the north turn. Some years ago, during high water, a floating muck island blocked the canal and it has been that way ever since. I wonder if the refuge has plans to fix this and make it easier to navigate.
I was out there 4 weeks ago and I was bottoming out in the western flats in my 18 ft Ranger. I pretty much had to come off plane in the canal, tilt the motor and work my way into the flats and let the wind move me across. There is still plenty of good water to fish without going to the north bend.

you can if you stay in the canal (where you put your boat in) and run west, it only gets dicey when you leave that canal and enter open water. hug the shore and there is somewhat of a cut. i haven't been out there in 3 weeks, but i have friends who have. they told me of a couple of areas up front, but i'm with you, i'm heading west. worst case scenario is i have to troll back to the canal. i am gonna try to get out there one night this week to see whats up. i will fill you in if i do.

Thanks,
I know I can run from the Twenty Mile Bend ramp around the back and cut in where I want to fish, but I'd like to be part of the party at the Boca ramp! I have a jack plate and can have my bring my nose cone up to about even with my boat's bottom before water pressure drops below 10, weeds are an entirely different story though.
You guys with Rangers are killing me, it's only gel coat  .
I might make a 12-15 foot push pole out of pvc to help get across the shallows. I'm runnin the aluminum Tracker but don't have the power you guys have to get on plane in a huury. I'm in with whatever yall decide.

A pole is a good idea. I think I will make one.
My Ranger is is 24 years old so I am not terribly concerned about the glass. The weeds are definitely a concern. The trolling motor batteries will be fully charged!
I know I'm freakin ready. Going to go jump in the tin beast tonight and see whats happening. Theres been fish chasing bait all day out here. I'm constantly seeing stuff just tearing up the water.
Friday needs to hustle up. Being off today and tomorrow isn't helping any right now. Today has been dragging by.
I tell ya what, man. Those push poles help out tremendously. Especially in the grass where the trolling motor won't go. You can push yourself into pockets where the BIGGUNS hide.

it has nothing to do with my gel coat. its the weeds getting back up on plane that i'm sweating. someones gonna catch a toad. can't wait
Hey Robert
I ran around the back side (from Southern) and on to the flats three weeks ago and it was SHALLOW. I had to put down and idle in out of the canal on to the flats. I then drifted back west on the flats with the wind. There were some spots that were 10 inches deep. I was able to get up and out in a deep section and managed to run out.
Remember the 35mph speed limit. I'm not sure I've figured out how to drive the Triton that speed in one foot of water. Last week at Harney it was keep it floored or risk bottoming or bogging.

Man, some of those filters really can screw up a sentence....
Hope you can make it out, Robert.
Looks like safelight may be about 6:00-6:15. Like Bruce said somebody is going to get a BIG fish. Looking forward to seeing all yall there. Before we launch Dan and Jason from JD'sCustomBaits, will be giving out some sample frogs and worms. Bring some big hooks.

Hope you all have a good time and some great fish (with px)

Several guys had to cancel due to work related issues at the last moment. Bruce, if you've still got a seat open, I'd love to tag along with you. Otherwise, I'll be taking my tin boat out to one of the private lakes in the area here.
Sorry fellas, I am swamped getting some last minute K1s and have been trading scared lately, so I am going to miss out on the event. Make sure you'll post up big fish pics and a report.
Wow the field really fell out. Jason from JD's will be bringing his boat. Capt. Bud will be in his back seat.
Hey guys I'm going out there next week. I would really love if you could post how things went! Like, what they were hitting on. I'm taking some buddies out there and would love to get them on some fish! Thanks!

Where the heck do you buy that stuff? I've checked a lot of my local stores and nobody carries it. I sure as hell don't have an Avon lady that I can easily get some from.
How about a little friendly gabbage on the side for big fish????

I'm good with that. 10 bucks a head for anybody who wants to jump in the pot? Take a picture and get a weight?
If somebody catches an absolute giant, I want to see that thing, screw the picture.
Bruce won last time with a darn 4 pounder...Somebody has got to beat that.
I would say big fish will be twice that if not more. Dan will probably be throwing a 4 pound bait.
Good to see all of you guys out there again today. Shame that no really big fish were caught today. I guess it's d**n hard to complain when you're out fishing on a Friday while everybody else is at work. Kevin and I watched three guys just whack a few four and five pounders back to back using shiners. The fish are there, it's just hard to compete with live bait. A handful of four pounders, and a pair of fives were caught. Good day all in all. Great weather too.
For those of you thinking about going out to the south end of Lox, the water is low. Very, very low. We didn't even touch the flats. If you come off a plane anywhere outside of the canals, you may not be able to get back out without being on the TM. The canals west of the ramp are blocked off as well as the north canal. Keep an eye out for rocks when you leave the launch ramp. There is water to fish if you want to get out there, just run carefully.
Watching that helicopter land of top of the truck to load up with chemicals to spray was pretty wild. I've never seen that before. Whoever was piloting that thing has bigger brass ones than I do. After seeing some of the smaller boats that were out today, I just may drag my little Jon out there at some point. Hell, I know that thing could have made it back into some of that excessively shallow water today.
Look forward to the next time. Hopefully we can get out to the Lake while the big bite is going on.

Amen to THAT! Wish I could make it, but instead paid my $XX,XXX.xx tax bill

That's pretty crazy, how many members showed up?
That was a blast, wish the water was about a foot higher, they were still pumping out when we left at 5pm.
It was great meeting you guys. Thanks for the free stuff. We should meet up again at Holiday, mm41 or the lake in the near future.
I had a chance to stick 3 big ones near the ramp on the new gambler green ez's. One or two might have been mud fish, but the others felt like bass on the line. I really hate those close calls. I am looking for some better rods and reels so I can dump my cheap stuff.

We ended up with 7 people total out there. Not quite as many as originally planned, but who cares. We were out fishing on a Friday and not at work. That alone makes it worthwhile.
