Hey guys, first post here, I've been crushing the big ones down here in south Florida in the major canals on black and blue jigs, chatterbaits, big spooks and some on frogs. At least 2 fish over 4 lbs everytime out. On Sunday I got about 6 over 4 including a 6 lber, that was dark to dark with an hour break midday. Anybody else been doin good down here. Btw I'm the kid in the 12 ft Jon boat and 5 merc lol
I've been doing similar except not as big. Only good ones recently would be 3#'s. Caught 4 yesterday in 30 minutes on a Reaction Innovations Sweet Beaver in Dirty Sanchez (Light green and pumpkin color). Caught some on flukes, senkos, swim jigs, and a few on the strike king denny brauer jig. How are you fishing your black and blue jig? Black and blue is supposedly a good color but I never really do that good with baits that I fish that are black/blue.
I'm fishin thick splatterdock/lily pad lines, with splatterwort underwater and reed lines against the bank. I'm pitching the jig to the edges and letting it fall to the bottom 4-8ft and hopping it twice and pulling it back In and makin another flip. Sunday the bite was on and the initial drop was all it took, yesterday it seemed like the water dropped another few inches and it messed them up just a little bit. Smaller fish were biting the jig and I had to hop it once or twice to get bit. So in other words pitch your jig around until you get bit, read where the bite came from and how you were working the bait and duplicate. And black and blue is a dirty water color, so If your fishing it In clear water than your really not giving it a fair chance, any les than 4 ft visibility is about where you wanna use it. Try using a green pumpkin/super bug/ okeechobee craw color on the back of your jig, that brown blending with that black and blue makes the jig look more like a bluegill which is really abundant down here.
Sorry for rambling lol
Don't worry about the rambling I found it very helpful, thanks!
good info mattbass...welcome to the site.
Sunday 5/11/14,
Sunday a friend and I went to the Holey Land west of US27 at the Palm Beach / Broward Line. We were out there for 4 hours and the two of us caught 60 fish. Of those 60, 4 were in the 4 pound range. Right now I believe the bite is still good and the water is a little lower then a week ago. Until we have significant rains the fishing should be excellent in South Florida. Good luck if you go.
Sounds good. I'm planning on hitting Big L this weekend. Looks like a small front is coming through late in the week, so let's see what happens to the bite.
Holiday park still on fire, black n blue 3/4 oz jig flipping and chatterbaits are the way to go, and been gettin big boils and bites on a big river2sea rover (topwater stickbait). They bent the stock hooks out several times (looked pretty good but I guess not) replaced them with gammys and a size bigger on the middle so te bait sits more upright in the water(don't wanna change out that feather tail lol) maybe that'll up my percentages. Just run the south canal and anywhere past te bend is good honesty
Headed out to the Big L today. Fishing was slow, caught a few with the biggest about 2lbs, my wife lost a nice one also. Few short strikes on top water, nothing flipping black/blue jig, caught fish on black 10 inch culprit curly tail, then dipped tail in chartruese dye. Let's see what happens next week.
Fishing the northen canal or east-west canal?
Fished the Northern canal. Pretty much fished just past the bend (probably 1/2 mile). Was going to try going west, but it was just too hot to continue fishing.
Anybody been out to Holiday this past week/weekend? Wondering if I should even bother rigging up a spook or just stick with some worms and jigs?
Went yesterday, very frustrating, had so many big fish blow up and or go crazy on my bait but never got it. Shoulda had 30/35 lbs but ended up with 16 lol. Might be out there later to get redemption, I'll be in the jonboat

I can understand your frustration, but be thankful you have the time, and convenience to go back the very next day. Good luck.
Thanks Lou, and yeah I get out of work at 3 everyday so If I don't have anything tht needs to be done I go, and in whatever conditions(nothin extreme though). I want to learn as much as I can when I can, plus today I might have a trick up my sleeve to get the big girls to commit

Cool... good luck
Yesterday was my worst day out there yet.... 2 2lbers and an almost 4 lber, the flipping bite is hard to do when it's slick cause these fish are so wary of the trolling motor they spook upto 20 yds away from the boat. Had to throw chatterbaits, topwaters but only short strikes and rolls, except for (2) 2 lbers. Regardless these fish I think are really pressured but then again I fish the same banks every time, time to was north next time...

I had the exact same experience on Tuesday. I thought it may been them storms & overcast but who knows?
Idk man but I'm goin out tmm, hopefully the sunshine helps out
Have an acquaintance that ventures out to the jettie sometimes, he is bass fisherman primarily and fishes Lake O every Saturday, been doing that for maybe 30- 40 years. Tells me the bite is hot as hell up there. Down here in Delray bass is the last thing I am targeting, the bite is very soft, but I'm catching some really nice peacocks.
@Mattbasscrusher.
Ride out west on Alligator alley and fish the Miami Canal. It runs north and south. Good wind break for windy afternoons as well. If the water is stable (no or little current) it is usually pretty good. If the water is ripping through there, move on.
Just my .02
I have been having some great evening fishing vista view park in Davie. Been catching a number of chunks each evening, with 15 to 20 each evening. I ran into one of our members out there, I nice young guy from Pembroke Pines working on mastering some new techniques. We certainly have a bunch of nice first class fisherman on this site.
Had a decent morning at Holiday today. Ran down south and just started flipping. Slow bite, but decent average. Missed a bunch of fish. Ended up with somewhere around 24 pounds. Was driving back home by 10:30. Total zoo out there today. Some special Olympics Bike event was going on. Tons of boats close to the ramps also. Glad I left when I did.
Going back out tomorrow evening with my daughters. They want to get a little fishing in and watch the sunset over the Glades.....
I'm stoked that they're volunteering to go out.
Idk broke a biggun off Friday and backed the drag off a little than a 5 bit and when I went to set the drag slipped on it and....yeah lol
Holiday Park is still fishing ridiculous. Caught ~27lbs with Robert on Thursday in about three hours. Two 6s and three 5s. We missed the best part of the bite, too.
Hate to say it, but I'm kind of hoping for the rain. The whole system needs to be flushed...it's like an aquarium there with a dirty, clogged filter. The low oxygen level sets these fish up and they are easy pickings, if you know what to do. Those fish really need a break...they're all stressed out. Every fish I caught on Thursday was full of red spots. Half the fish were beat up with scabs/sores from being caught.
I'm going to do the big fish tourney on Father's Day, but we're going to run some new water. Then I'm switching to Lox mode....
Yeah. All of the fish I caught yesterday weren't in the best condition. Lots of red spots that didn't look that good.
Been hard for me to want to drive up to Lox with the fishing so good down here. Last time I was at Lox I didn't do so great. Water levels were down and made it difficult to really fish the flats like I want to do out there. As much as I like fishing canals, whenever I go to Lox, I'd much rather chuck moving baits over the grass flats.
Guess I better be careful what I wish for. That rain that just moved through was brutal. Came in fast from the East. I'm sure some people got stuck down on L67 today, fishing. Hope everybody is all right.
I hear you, Eric. It's tough to leave when the fishing is so good. I'm a little tired of looking at canals, though. I'm ready to get back in the backcountry at Lox and just start throwing the frog around. Even if I don't catch anything. Get away from that zoo at Holiday Park.
This what I'm looking forward to...

I'm sitting here in the backyard watching that storm. Pretty nasty. Was hoping to take off from the house around 4 with the kids to go out this evening. Not looking too great now though. Just wanted to let them pitch some senkos to the edges of the pads.
I went out with my kids couple weeks ago. Got them some tiny tubes at BPS. They both caught over 100 fish: Oscars, sunfish, bass, warmouth. Non stop action.
I sat up front and flipped up a pile of 5/6lbers. Win/win!
How'd you end up in the tourney today, Mike? I was out on Saturday and the water was beyond dirty. I left at 9 in the morning. I wasn't the only one leaving either. Looked like absolute mud. All the run off from the rain muddied everything up as far as I could tell.
Still trying to find my first 30 pound bag out there. Frustrating. Keep getting close, but not quite there.
she's filling up quick boys. get it while its hot.

Eric,
Me and Leo fished the big fish tourney at Holiday yesterday. We actually had a pretty good day. We ran north cause we heard the water was muddy around the park. Had about 26lbs by 11:00....a pile of 4.5lbs - 5.5lbs but nothing over 6lbs so we skipped the noon weigh in and kept fishing. Of course, I caught a 6.5 at 12:15.... Some storms started rolling in and we went in about 2:00. Good day, though. Probably 27-28lb bag.
The 30lb bags are going to be hard to come by now I think. That water is rising fast.
Hey guys, heading back to the park today for the first time since my last post, apparently the waters come up and the waters muddy from what you guys are writing.. Am I better off fishing the north canal that runs to the alley?
Water around the park and south was muddy. I went down to marsh access 3 and it didn't improve any. If I were going out today I'd head north all the way to the alley and start looking around there from what Mike said.
Fished on Sunday with Ricky deboliac out of holiday park for a KOTG club tourney. Super cool guy and great fisherman, we had 23.56 lbs, which would have been good for second, we were assessed penalties that knocked us down to 5/6 but it was still a great day. We had two 6+ class fish that were on both our lines but stuff happens and they didn't come in the boat. That's part of the game. I also had a 5/6 eat my jig trailer off in front of my face but what can u do. Flipping bite was on in the only major part of the system left to fish. Run around till you find better looking water and flip. You may run across the last of the 30lb canal bags.
Good info mattbass...Sounds like yall had a nice day out there. Nice work.

Matt, you fished with Ricky? Cool!
I talked to Ricky yesterday...the spot you guys fished, Leo and I fished earlier n the week. Had ~35 pounds on it. You are learning real fast how to fish Holiday Park.
I see some chatter on facebook about how "easy" Holiday Park is to fish. It's funny though, that the guys saying it's "easy" aren't cashing checks out there. Even when the FLW/Elite series guys come down to fish events (like Channing Crowders tourney), it's basically the King of the Glades guys that dominate. To me, Holiday Park, is "pure fishing"...every fish (right now) in the system is right there in the canal...now who can go catch em? Those fish are very pressured and they've seen every bait imaginable. Who can make the 6-7lbers bite? Can you leave 5lbers to go find the 7s that you need to win? Not a lot of guys can do it.

I know I can't on a regular basis. Lol. I've had a good average out there. I've stuck a couple of the better class fish, just haven't been able to get a good giant landed.
I'm probably going to stick with Lox and Okeechobee for a while now. I'm really just waiting for the water levels to come up a little.
I'm sure I'll still wind up at Holiday a few times. It's just too close to the house for me to pass up.

Well, you're doing something right out there Eric. The 10.73lber is the biggest fish I've ever heard of out of Holiday Park. I've fished almost every open tournament out there the past four years and I have only seen one bass over 9lbs there (mine from March). And that includes thousands of hours of prefishing.
Shame I can't repeat it. That was several years ago. Just blind luck. Haven't come close to that since then.
Wow, a 10lber was caught out of holiday?? Nice!!!
Lol. That was at least four or five years ago. Believe me, it was all dumb luck.
I haven't come close to that at Holiday since. I'd be overjoyed with an 8 from there.
Just got back in from Indy. Have one day before I fly back out for a day. I may go back to Holiday tomorrow. I'm sure the water has gone way up by now though. I found some nice lookin spots last time I was out which are probably done for until the water disappears again.
Went to Lox today. My first time there in 2014. Had an OK day...done at noon. Storms chased me off. Five biggest about 15lbs. Two 4lbers. Water lower than I expected. I like it about a foot deeper. Was nice to get out there and run around a little bit.

Thanks for the report as usual. I haven't been to Lox in a while, with storms threatening I usually head for the Alley and the safety of the bridges.
Was the water deep enough to run around in the flats, Mike? Last time I was out there it was basically choked off.

You're smarter than me. I ended up running back to the truck three times yesterday. The third time, I just loaded the boat and went home. it's always a little bit nerve wracking out there in the summer with all the storms popping up. I like to fish way west...but the storms usually come in from the east. Can make for a narrowing trip back if you don't leave early enough.

Eric, yeah there is definitely enough water to fish the flats. I fished the flats a good chunk of the morning with no trouble. I was even able to get up on plane out there (with help from trim tabs)
Ah sweet deal. If the weather cooperates I'm probably going out there this weekend. Possibly on Thursday if I can sneak away from work. Glad I didn't try yesterday or the day before. Those storms came in much earlier than I expected.
Super rough day today. Couldn't buy a bite. Saw some decent ones in low water that wouldn't give anything i threw at em the time of day.
Thursday 7/10/14 Went to Clewiston today for lunch. They are moving a lot of water south from the lake, and the levels seem to be high at the Clewiston ramps, and they are up at the Holey Land. There should be a lot of water moving in the Holey Land, and Alley this weekend. Moving water should be good for fishing.
Anybody been to holiday lately? I've been too busy with work and school to go.
I went out north of Holiday on the 4th for a few hrs with a buddy. Had a ton of action throwing the usual line-up but nothing over 2-3 lbs.. So who's fishing where this weekend??
I'll either be at Lox or Holiday tomorrow. Probably Lox as I think there is a tourney at Holiday. Weather is looking like it'll be halfway decent for the first half of the day. Just plugged in the charger, topped off the oil, etc etc. I'm itching to go get on a fish or two.
I just confirmed with my buddy, LOX it is for me..
I'm fishing the tourny with a good buddy if mine tmm. Well see how i stack up
I fished "Flip Fest" at Holiday Saturday. I hadn't fished out there in awhile, made a big run in the morning and the spot was a complete wash out. I was also having engine problems and I couldn't move around like I wanted. With all the storms popping up, I wasn't comfortable with my lack of mobility out there. I went in early (11:30)...had the start of a decent bag, threw back a 6.2lber.
Went to Lox Sunday afternoon and had a fun day. Caught +20 almost all in the flats...some decent size also. Had two 4s and a 5. Water is high and moving. Had to dodge one storm, but the rest of the day was really comfortable and fun fishing.
the lake is doing its summer thing. catch a toad and fill your bag with some decent fish. had 18 pounds on sunday at slims tourney and finished 3rd. 18.7 beat us for 2nd and the winner had 28 pounds. same guy had 28 pounds last weekend as well. they're there, jus gotta find 'em.
Funny, we only had a couple bites in the flats out at lox. I was really surprised, expected better results. The water looked nice and clean/ healthy grass to.. Caught more in the canal out west past the big pump house. We threw all sorts of stuff to. I was hoping my holly body frog was gonna get smashed at least once but nada. Swimbaits and slogos we getting most of the action but we only managed maybe a 10-12 bass but nothing over 2lbs with some bowfins mixed in. Had to dodge a couple storms as well left by 1230.

I got there about 11:00 and ran west...about 12:30 a big storm came in from the East and I got stuck. I tied up to the 3rd spillway, went up on the bank and rode it out. The storm cooled things off and the rest of the day was nice cloudy/windy. Caught almost all my fish on a horny toad in the pepper grass. Caught three fish flipping, including the 5lber.
I fished mike lendls flip fest tournament as well last Saturday out of a borrowed early 90s 19 nitro, ended up 7th with 20.67 after a 2 dead fish penalties. (Unfortunately a dink in the well got stuck in the sucker for the recirculator and cut the oxygen levels for at least one cycle. And that was enough to send two fish belly up )
I Fished right out front but top 2 ran down l67 in search or clear water and found it, to the tune of 31plus (forssell/sayler) and 28 plus(deboliac/Sloan). Good guys though and they all worked for their finishes, even thouhj it seems forrsell always bangs out 30 plus lbs
I ended up at Holiday on Sunday. Had some fun catching fish on horny toads earlier in the morning. Nothing crazy though. Somewhere around 20 pounds. Bite turned off for me around 10:30 - 11:00. Had some guy offering me his shiners because he wasn't even getting hit on those. Went home to beat out the afternoon storms. Didn't feel like driving north to get caught in the rain. I woke up early on Saturday to booming storms over me and said screw it.
I'm planning on Lox or the Lake this weekend. Water levels are on the rise. Almost 13.5 ft and rising.

new to west palm beach, any guys on foot want to hit the ponds? I need to make some new fishing buddies lol. starting to go through bass withdrawls. ive been hitting little ponds I see from apartment complexs and google earth but if anyone knows some good spots Im all ears.
Welcome to BR. Several members live in that area. Maybe they can help you out. Goodluck.
Looks like we lost about 5months worth of posts here...
Leo and I finished 2nd at Giblets and Gravy out of Clewiston yesterday with 24.5lbs. 60boats. Leo would have had big fish also, but his 8.5lber coughed up a 10" mullet in the livewell as we were loading her up in the weigh in bag. The half pound mullet wouldn't have been enough to give us first (1st place = 25.5lbs) so complaints. Caught a bunch of fish and gave ourselves a chance to win...one more big bite in the last two hours and we would have it.
We're starting to figure it out pretty good out there. Three straight trips well over 20lbs. Figures...just about the time we start going back to the glades...

WTG Mike!! You guys are on a roll. I would like to see what reports you guys provide when you hit the glades again. That is my usual fishing grounds.
Thanks Lou. Feels pretty good to start seeing the results of our work there. We were boat #5 and we have a pretty fast boat (~72mph). We got to our first spot well ahead of the pack. We start fishing a line of heads and Brandon McMillian pulls in on the other side of the head and starts fishing. That's when you know you are in the right spot.
Might try and hit Holiday Park tomorrow for a few hours. Will likely be with my Dad so probably not going to hit it too hard.

Good luck Mike. I will be fishing 27 on Saturday with my son. I did pretty good over there last Saturday.
My honey holes which are 2 of my community ponds were very hot for a few weeks. Using nothing but light or ul spinning and top water popper I was consistently catching 18-24" bass, a ton of fun. Well the bite has stopped, being landlocked the fish are still there unless the otters or gators ate them, we had gator pulled out of one of the ponds. I am not giving up my method, there are good fish there and I'm going get some more, not a question of if but when. Doing ok in the canals but the fish have been small and using heavier tackle, not near as much fun as the pond action.
Another good day on Okeechobee today with Leo. Brutal conditions...cold, bluebird, winds gusting over 30 out of the North in the morning.
North wind is my nemesis out there, but today we got the better of her.
Nice HAWG!!
WOW!!!!! Great job dealing with your nemesis. How many pounds did that pig go for?
Not quite 9lbs.
Took the kids to Holiday Park this afternoon. Was very surprised at the good bite...only went out a couple hours but caught about a half dozen like this and a bunch of 2-3lbers.
Wow! you did much better out at holiday than I did! lol the water was ripping hard and I couldn't hardly stay in any of hte bigger canals. had to go up to picnic to find refuge and nothing but dinks there

Dang!!! Looks like the fishing is just fine out of Holiday. Half a dozen pigs!! Not bad at all. WTG!!
You guys make me have boat ***. I can only fish from the bank since I am boatless. I wish I could go to more areas but always worried about safety when fishing alone so I tend to stick to parks.
At most I get 2-3 bass in a week, I can't imagine getting 30 in a day O.O
Has anyone noticed that in the past couple of weeks the LMB -- possibly just the males -- have an increase in the subtle turqoise blue coloration under the lower jaw? Is this present all year and I'm just noticing it more? Is this a change that has something to do with spawning/mating behavior?
