The Expo is this weekend.
Green Top sale starts on Wednesday and runs through the weekend.
Green Top has $2 off the admission price to the Expo coupons. Check the Times-Dispatch as there is supposed to be a coupon in the newspaper this week.
Rondef tells me that the BPS sale is February 27 so don't waste your time going to BPS unless you just want to go.
What time are we meeting on Saturday and at what booth?
If Daiwa is not there, we could go to the Green Top booth. Let everyone know.
See you all at the Expo!
Sam, the BPS Classic Sale starts February 27th. Here is some seminar information.

Oh I thought the BPS sale was in the spring. I have little faith that BPS sale is gonna be any good, I hope Im wrong. And what kinda discounts can we expect from green top's sale ?
I'll be going down about noon, will get there about 1:09
Steve, can I borrow about $30k? Sweet, thanks.
I spent way too much lately on steez, rods, etc.. I probably won't make any big purchases at the show. But if green top has some sick deals , that's a different story. I think Im gonna go on friday and avoid the snow on saturday and sunday. If it doesnt snow then I will change my plans cuz I wanna see swindle's seminar. Who's goin , when and where is everyone meetin up ?

(begin Homer Simpson voice) must.....stay.....home....
Holy crap!
oh snaps! I guess I better bring some cash for some new lures. I'm such a sucker for jap lures....
I will most likely head down on saturday. very interested in putting faces to names so i'll try and go whenever everyone else goes.
Was also hoping for some deals on daiwa > I need me another zillion rod.
Alright, looks like I"m heading down early on Friday morning and then again on Saturday.
How does 11am on Saturday sound for a meet-up?
If greentop sales start wed. i would try to get there asap to nab up the good deals as i know they dont last long at greentop and will probably be sold out of the better deals bf the expo starts! I may try to hit it greentop on thursday and pick up the coupon to expo while im there!

Boys, we all know that is what's drawing us there. Tell the truth, how many are you gonna pick up? ;D
hahahahaha
I'm going for the Jackall stuff.
I thought for sure you would say SEBILE!!!
wow no sale on lucky craft stuff, that was one of the few things that would draw me to that sale. All those discounts are on par with what dicks sporting goods and gander mountain are doing right now but of course with a larger selection. I dont need any soft plastics so I might just pass on the green top sale. The jackall stuff is tempting but thats a long way to drive to save a few bucks on a few lures. I'll just stick with ebay for now, I been findin sick deals on there. I'll be at the show on friday so I guess I'll see you there Dan. Anyone wanna ride down with me then lemme know, me and my buddy Brent are goin so I have room for 2 more people.
only several more days!!!!
Well, looks like I'll only be going on Friday now.
I think we'll need to have a proper fishing get together with the whole VA crew this year.
QuoteWell, looks like I'll only be going on Friday now.I think we'll need to have a proper fishing get together with the whole VA crew this year.
Thats what the smallmouth wade is for, what better way to bond then to point at and laugh at whomever takes a spill on the slippy rocks ;D

Yeah but I know we have some guys who wouldn't be able to do a wade. I think we need to do a big gigantic tournament and set up some boaters with nonboaters at a big lake or river.

count me in!!!
If its on the Potomac I'm down. I don't get done with school until early to mid May though so it'd have to be after that. But count me in as a boater
Potomac is the safe bet
2009 was weak for me. determined to make 2010 my best year of fishing yet. I will keep my PB of 2010 in my "livewell" at home.
Still heading down saturday. Hope I don't miss any deals on friday.
If you guys wanna fight for second... I'm in..
Speaking of trash talking. where is the king of trash talking, SHimmy?
We'll have to see what locations work best for the most Virginians. The Potomac is a great option but if we get guys from SWVA, or Central VA they may want to try somewhere else. I'll start a thread in a few months to get an idea about participants and locations.
i say briery or sandy river its right in the middle ;D ;D
Bah I cant go Friday Thai you wana go Saturday?
_Steve_ "wow no sale on lucky craft stuff"
20% off All Lucky Craft Lures at Green Top.
Briery and sandy although great fisheries, for the time we are shooting for it will be crowded and there is a hp restriction....puttering around with just an electric is not fun for those who don't have a small kicker outboard.
David I won't be able to fish til sat anyways and I have plans already....but I'll let you know what's up and if we fish a spot that's got enough room for anfew people. Sunday I promised I would spend time with the girly.....
Sounds good - keep me in the loop!
I was at the Expo today setting up a booth. The vendor participation is less than last year. Only two buildings are being used and they are not full.
The Hawg Trough is in the first building, that should give you a hint.
Wayne, the show is all we have so we have to enjoy it.
With the new management and the economy picking up maybe we will have more vendors in the future.
We are very fortunate to have Green Top, Gander Mountain, Castaways, Dance's, Fishing Pro Tech, Hookers and Bass Pro Shop in our area to visit for tackle.
There is another expo in Timonium, Maryland this weekend but it is too far to travel to attend.
Green Top is having their big sale this weekend so everyone can visit that store on Route 1 just north of I-295.
Did we ever set up a time, day and place to meet this year? If so, can you give it to me?
Thanks
im headed down there in a few minutes. I'll be wearing an orange north face jacket and a mets hat.
I went by Green Top also. Green Top has a booth at the Expo too, it's been a few years since that have done that.
Don't forget to stop by the SHAM-WOW booth, LOL
There are a few other flea market booths too.
Who's going tomorrow and when/where will you be?
I will be making my way down there around 1 or so. who else going to be at the expo tomorrow?
i will be there tomorrow with my twin and dad but i could seperate from them and meet up at whatever time everyone else is meeting up.
Just got back. Went to Green Top (twice), the Expo, Gander Mtn, and BPS. What a day.
Check out Gander Mtn. They had Daiwa Zillions for $100 off retail plus some other reels that were steeply discounted.
Green Top was cool. They always have stuff that I haven't seen anywhere else.
The Expo was definitely smaller than the past couple years but there was still some cool stuff. Dave's Tournament tackle is a must. They will build spinnerbaits, jigs, and buzzbaits to order right there in front of you. There is also a booth next to it that was selling Culprit stuff for $1.50/a bag and Xcalibur stuff for $5/lure. Very good prices.
I also saw some cool rods around. JB Customs, Kipper sticks, Powells, Damiki, Shimanos, Daiwas, etc... I saw Cumaras for $160. My buddy bought a beat up (but mechanically good) TD-X for $25 from fishing Pro Tech. I also saw some rare japanese type stuff, 3:16 frogs that were HUGE, some cool swimbaits that are hard to find, sweet soft plastics, and some custom jigs/spinnerbaits.
We saw Gerald Swindle's seminar at the bass tank. It was more stand-up comedy than fishing instruction but he told a pretty funny story about "pooping his britches" in front of a female BASS marshal on the last day of a tournament. It was HILARIOUS.
Topped the day off with some Phat Boyz BBQ.
I'll be there tomorrow. I'll be wearing blue jeans and a green, denim Carhartt hooded jacket. I live in Newport News so I won't be there too early. How's 11:00 AM sound?
Sam, are you working a booth there?
I was at the show again today to talk to the Longwood University fishing team. I talked to the Daiwa rep. in the Green Top booth about the Samurai superline. He said the store had what I wanted.
I went by there on the way home and all they had of what I wanted was in a 1500 yard spool. I didn't want to take out a loan to buy it, so I told them I would just order a filler spool. I won't be going back until Sunday afternoon for the vendor evacuation.
The show wasnt huge but there was some cool stuff there. I spent a lil coin at the daves tourney tackle display. I was very tempted to buy a damiki rod. I also went by green top and got a bunch of deep diving pointers, some dtt jigs in pbj and a few other lil things. Good way to spend a day indeed. Swindle was cool but all he really talked bout was crankbaits at least the 15 minutes that I watched. Funny guy tho. Crews was a cool guy, spoke to him for maybe 2 or 3 minutes. As far as deals, there was someone there selling pointers for 12 bux and I got some nice jigs for a buck. I didnt however see the $160 cumaras, wish I had tho. Lots of nice custom rods there too. Very tempting .
I was there around 12pm and caught the show...i agree it was more of a comedy show then anything else i was kinda disapointed. He maybe talked 10-15min of actual fishing / tips.
Anyways i also thought the expo was small but did have a few good stands! I loaded up at the discount stand across from Daves Tournament Tackle. They had zoom, culprit and few other good brands marked way down! $1.50-$1.75 per pack!! I also had Dave make me up 3 spinner baits, and i made 5 of my own jigs they had every color skirt and jig head you could imagine and prices were not too bad. The spinnerbaits / jigs are top quality. While i was there a guy put a order in of over 100 swim jigs all sexy shad color . Def worth stopping by!
I went to greentop bf the show and got some sebile magic swimmer hard & soft. I also got a couple of crankbaits, jigs, and trailers. Oh yea also got a Jackall Giron blue gill swimbait, it caught my eye and i had to have it! Its not as BIG as some of the other bluegill swim baits on the market its more like a baby bluegill at 4'' and looks so real.
as wayne said dont forgot the shamwow booth! ;D
As far as seminars i would attend another guys seminar if your wanting to learn something, Swindle was a funny guy and nice just didnt talk enough fishin knowin everyone there had cabin fever!!
i cant wait to see all the seminars at the expo, i think ima go see 4 of them tommarow lol
I was there today from 11:00AM to about 12:30PM, at which time I headed to Green Top.
I'm sorry to say that I was rather disappointed. No Daiwa booth this year that I saw. I found no deals anywhere, except the free samples of the Jacks Links beef jerky. The trout pond for kids was kinda cool. But the crassness of some of the vendors was unbearable. I saw one guy looking at some custom rods - nice, but nothing to write home about. The guy looked at one and put it back and wandered off. The guys at the booth bad mouthed him out loud and said something to the effect that they can't help it if he doesn't catch fish if he's not fishing with one of their rods. : Too many people asking for donations.
And the worse part, I didn't see Sam or Dan anywhere.
Micro, which rod vendor made that comment?
I sent you a PM.

I was going to warn you last night that there was no Daiwa booth but I forgot about it. Did you stop by the Dave's Tournament Tackle booth? They had some cool stuff. Average prices but stuff that I don't see very often like ima, deps, etc..
Was it just me or did Pro Tech's booth seem a little light this year?
I'll bet that was the JB Rods booth, wasn't it? Those guys are always very ballsy. They will NOT STOP TALKING TO YOU if you stop in their booth. I agree with you about the rods too. They were ok. Nothing awesome and most of the rods had crappy guides. They sure do like to use that dollar bill demo trick, but I"m pretty sure you can feel a dollar bill across the tip guide of just about any graphite rod...
I wish we could have had a meet up but I just couldn't manage a second trip down there. Besides, I managed to catch my first 2 bass of the year while fishing today instead. ;D
The Pro Tech booth was less stocked than last year. I bought a pack of plastic worms there to demo the weedless wacky rig for some that asked about it.
QuoteI was going to warn you last night that there was no Daiwa booth but I forgot about it. Did you stop by the Dave's Tournament Tackle booth? They had some cool stuff. Average prices but stuff that I don't see very often like ima, deps, etc..
I did. But I didn't buy anything. I didn't see much in the way of jigs that Green Top doesn't already carry. They did have some Dave's plastics I hadn't seen before.
QuoteWas it just me or did Pro Tech's booth seem a little light this year?
Were they there? I didn't even see them.
QuoteI'll bet that was the JB Rods booth, wasn't it? Those guys are always very ballsy.
As a matter of fact, I think that was JB's booth. They even knocked my equipment. They asked me what I fished with and then told me to sell my rods for wahtever I could get for them and buy a few of theirs. (Yes, it was JBs. I just looked them up and they sell the rods with the epoxy ball handles.)
QuoteBesides, I managed to catch my first 2 bass of the year while fishing today instead. ;D
That's worth missing it for!
Yep, Pro Tech was near the DTT booth but they really didn't have too much stuff at all.
How audacious of those guys. I would take one of your Fenwick's over any of their rods...
Hey guys,
Enjoyed the show, small, but excellent. Found a All Star ASR rod at Sports Fisherman Center Booth. Was going to buy after I saw the price,However a guy walked up said he'll make me a deal,OK. Got the rod for about 25% off, Check them out, and dont pay the list or sale price. Cheaper to sale, then to load back up.
And Greentop gave the kids a nice spinner. My 11 year old loved it, got home and hit the pond. And I hoped everyone talk with Frank Poirie at Greentop, he is one of the best local fisherman and all around good guy.
Hey Nottoway, did you see any decent or hard to find swimbaits? Glad to hear you and the family had a good time.
C.J.
Hey Chris,
I did and didnt. Nothing looked as good as the catch22's. Dave had some, but nothing I would bring home. Other then the rod, I just picked up a few hooks and a few pack of beavers from R&R, for the Potomac.
XLFISH, they had Tylures Swimbaits and Mattlures hardbaits at DTT, a couple places had DEPS Highsiders, and I saw a few places with some big Magic Swimmers. I don't remember any other REAL swimbaits.
you would think in this economy any retailer or vendor would treat potential customers like gold. Glad I didnt buy any of their rods. They seem like good rods but for another 60 bux I can go on ebay and get a new loomis glx.
On a sidenote, went out on the river today with Marc aka RockvilleMdAngler, the spoils was frozen solid so we fished blue plains and 4 mile run. I managed 3 shad and Marc got 2 bass and several stickfish ;D Was very tough fishing today and dangerous drivin a bassboat thru all that ice.
i'm pretty sure you can get better rods for $60 less than they were charging. ;D
Micro,
Since I had to work the TBF booth from 4 to 8 on Saturday night, I got there around 2:30.
Sorry I missed you.
I purchased:
Some Shad Raps at $5 each.
Some custom crankbaits from Lonnie at the Castaways booth. Really beautiful cranks.
A package of Bayou Bengal Sweet Beavers. They are purple and gold flake in a watermelon body so I just had to have them.
Some nice Flick Shake jig heads.
And a Revo-S to go with my new G. Loomis 7-foot cranking stick.
Wife purchased some nice knives for the kitchen when she came by and brought me dinner.
Smaller show, but there were some very nice deals and I made some new friends.
I also met Triton9 and his dad; saw Basspro48; spoke with George with GMCO maps; saw Chris Dunnavant of the Virginia Game and Inland Fisheries; and spoke with many fishing buddies and vendors.
R&R people are from Louisiana and they are LSU fans so we had a great time talking about food and fishing.
Sorry I did not get to see anyone this year but working from 4 to 8 had my schedule off balance for the day.
Micro, let's make plans for the Chick River again.
Sam
Sam, did she get the knives from the RADA cutlery booth?
Dan, the discounted zillion. rods or reels? I was all over the place looking for a deal on a rod.
I remembered: the Cumaras on sale were at Green Top.
Zillions were reels.
Dan, yes, the RADA knives.
She loves them and the lady showed us how to sharpen the blades and clean the handles.
Excellent knives for the kitchen.
She also bought one of Lonnie's $15 crankbaits for my birthday in May. She will save it for my birthday.
In the meantime, I am having Lonnie make one other "double secret" color crankbait that we cannot get in the US.
Don't ask guys, as it is a "double secret" color combination and we can not get it at this time. And yes, it is from a foreign country.
All in all, I had a good time.
And I forgot to say that I met Fat-G and his dad and we had a great conversation. Fat-G's dad is a super guy and a great newspaper sports writer. I am looking forward to taking them fishing this summer and maybe take Fat-G to my secret farm pond so he can catch some of those big ladies.
Now to put the #6 treble hooks on my new cranks.
Mark and Steve, saw you guys on the river today. We were the jonboat in the mouth of the spoils as you passed going up to blue plains. Cannot believe the line you guys took over the ferry, very precarious!! It was a bit eyes wide open at times, dodging the chunks out there!! We were just as fortunate to not catch any on the river. Blue plains was an aquarium, just without any bass. You guys pushed on
up to 4mr, woah....... I was exhausted after the big push past the WW bridge. Nice to get out, would have been nice to have been rewarded for the effort.
QuoteDan, yes, the RADA knives. She loves them and the lady showed us how to sharpen the blades and clean the handles.
They make good stuff. We have a couple different sets of RADA knives.

I didnt even see you guys, dont remember seeing any boats near the spoils. Some guy in a jon boat at belle haven told us the spoils was glacier land and to forget about it. So we made our way to blue plains. Never seen so many shad in my life. I credit Marc for doin a fine job of gettin thru all the ice. That lil skeeter did just fine thru all that mess. There was only 3 other boats in blue plains and wouldnt you know my old sea nymph was one of them, couldnt believe it. I shouted over to him hey Im the guy that sold you that boat, too funny. Small world considering the guy lives in colonial beach. Well at least I know we arent the only guys on this forum crazy enough to venture out in that mess, too bad you didnt catch anything. I'd rathe be out on the water and catch nothing then be on shore and catch 4 or 5 tho. Much better practice for someone like me to be on the water and tryin to develop my skillset.

the R&R guys are local...Robin Yost is from Chester.
The R&R lures are nice, Dance's in Colonial Heights sells them.
greentop also sells r&r, i just bought some floating worms that are r&r for shakeyhead fishing.
