Hey new to the forums and didnt see any information for Beaverdam Creek Reservoir. ive been going up there for the past 3 weeks or so with a friend and have caught some decent size LMB all 1lbs-4.5lbs. All were caught in the coves around the lake using cranks and spinner baits with Colorado blades in less then 7 feet of water. Last week the water temp on the north end was 56 degrees and 62 on the south end, after the warm weekend and rain im sure the spawn is going to start soon we havent seen any evidence of it yet though...other then some fat bellys on the fish we've caught. ill get some pictures up soon.
we've also been going up to ashburn village to the main lake where there sports pavilion is located, caught a ton of small LMB nothing over 1.5lbs but there are def some monsters in there. i was reading there forum pacemakerfishing and there spawn has started but some of the beds are hard to see due to algae
its kind of a drive from centreville/fairfax but both spots are def worth checking out!
Welcome !! Glad to have you here on the site! Thanks so much for being willing to share good quality, current info! This is what makes this forum work so well.
Congrats on your many fish, and I'll look forward to more reports as the season progresses !
Tight Lines !
Thanks for the report. I used to go to Beaverdam all the time when i was a kid. I learned all about fishing there. Then we'd go jumping off the catwalk in my highschool days, and i did a bit of fishing there about 2 years back. It was very low the times I went, but we did have pretty good luck. Might have to head back there and check it out.
I went to Broad Run High school, so I've been going to Ashburn village lakes for many years now, there are 5 total i think, which are loaded with big fish, but a canoe/small boat would do wonders. Anyways, lets see some pics!
yea the water level was extremely low last fall/winter so my friend went around the whole thing with his garmin and marked just about every rock feature, road bed, log feature, brick structure etc...so we just head to those spots when we go out...its been fun the past couple weeks the water level has def come up since then and its probably risen a foot or 2 over the past month but is still pretty low.
When end do you access the the resevoir from?
I went there yesterday and got skunked but my friend caught a 1lb 8oz one in the cove to the right of resevoir rd.
That place has not been kind to me. 0 for 3 trips for me. Maybe I stink but seems like white spinenrs are the only thing that works there.
We tried fishing at the dam and got no bites what so ever. My friend is much better fishermen than me and he got nothing.
Any tips would help. I need to catch something to save face :'(
aren't the Ashburn Village lakes private?
i caught a 3.5lbs in either that cove your talking about or the next one over with a white spinner and large willow blade it had a creek running into it...we fish on all sides from resevoir rd, where the church is, dam side and have caught fish everywhere. like i said we've used cranks and spinners so far...going back this week and might jig it up we shall see...

no, public...
I have been wanting to try fishing this lake. I may have to check it out one day soon. Where od you guys park to fish this lake?
Another Virginian on the site. Outstanding!
Keep posting those reports and asking your questions.
And be sure to read, read and read some more.
As for Hokie DJ, the UVA and LSU guys are nailing the fish right and left. Do you think it is because you are a Hokie and not a Cavalier or a Fighting Tiger or a Volunteer or a Tarheel? ;D
P.S. Just kidding - could not help myself.
QuoteI have been wanting to try fishing this lake. I may have to check it out one day soon. Where od you guys park to fish this lake?
if you pull up google maps
you can park at the end of Corro Place theres a path that leads to the north point/dam
at the end of Mt Hope Road thats where people drop there boats theres a white church no gas motors though
you can take belmont ridge road make a right onto ryan road then a right onto evergreen mills then a right onto resevoir road which is dirt..and kinda messed up
all 3 spots are nice had the most luck in the coves in the middle and south

Hoo are you eh?
I'm determine to catch a fish there. I can' t be skunked. I did go at the wrong times though. Usually in the cold and afternoon.. I'll try early morning next time.

i never went before 4pm..so i dunno heh
could i drop a jon boat in there at the end of mt hope road? and anywhere to leave my trailer and jeep while i'm fishing? thanks. tight lines
I've seen a Jon boat in there before but you'll have to carry it to the Resevoir. I don't believe there's any launching places I've seen from Mt Hope or the other side. Mt Hope has a bigger parking spot so you should be able to fit it there.

yea thats the best place to drop it but you have to carry it to the water, if you have a dolly that works best, thats where we drop my friends boat....

No, I just checked to make sure. Only residents of Ashburn Village and their guests are allowed to fish there and the resident has to be there with you and has to have a fishing license and recreation ID card from Ashburn Village.

oh..well ive been going there for 3 years no problems soo....
Just figured I'd make sure. I've heard stories of people being kicked out and I figure there problem wouldn't be problems fishing there most times but I don't want to drive all the way out there with the chance I'll be kicked out.
in the spring time there are so many people running/walking around that place i really do not think they mind...you can also go to http://www.pacemakerfishing.com/ and go to the forum maybe get one of them to go out with you one day
I typically fished for stipers in the Bay, but living out in Ashburn now, I am hitting the ponds and want to try the Beaverdam and Goose Creek water. I have noticed the fish are bedding in the Ashburn ponds. Heading to Dick's now to find some baits that work well for bedding bass but don't collect the weeds. The ponds are loaded with weeds this year. Anyone try to float tube or kayak Beaverdam? I think that might work but wanted to check out this forum first. Thanks

During our last outing to Beaverdam there were multiple people out in kayaks, and I was in a canoe, it required some extra effort, but it is a good way to get around out there.

Make sure you have a PFD, the game wardens like to ticket there. I have gotten a ticket and seen many being written out.
Went to Beaverdam yesterday after work for one hour. I fished the shoreline and was totally skunked. >
Fish were jumping everywhere, and I couldn't even get a bite. :-?

Ashburn Village will have you arrested for trespassing, they are private. It is posted and the "pond police" can, will and do make sure of it.
Beaverdam Reservoir is different than Beaverdam Creek Reservoir.
I used to live in Ashburn Village, then I moved and my sister lived there for a while, so I fished those lakes a lot... Since then, I have been run off several times, but this is the first I've heard of an arrest... That totally sucks. That sports pavilion pond has some nice fish in it. 5 and 6 pounders, and this was two or three years ago.
Avalon, it does suck. But they had a problem with people of all types keeping anything and everything, so in that respect I can see where they are coming from. I think that they are harsh with me more so because of what I look like and I am a bit abrassive........

Yea, I've found that the way you look makes a big difference...there are some ponds here in richmond near a nice office park. These ponds are surrounded by tech companies and I was asked to leave when wearing shorts and a t-shirt...when I fished one time after work (dress shirt, khaki's and dress shoes) the same guy who asked me to leave the first time walked right by me...
I guess BDU's , Harley tee shirt and a gotee to boot did'nt help. It's not like a rolled up on my Shovelhead, slinging beer bottles, firing off lewd jestures and yelling at the tramp I brought with me to put her top back on..............I just parked the Bronco and snuck ever so silently over to the pond and started fishing..........I even smiled.
I propose a collection for a new wardrobe for flippin4it. Some LL Bean shirts and shorts and a nice pair of Sperry topsiders should do the trick! ;D
I was out on the reservoir on Thursday. On my 4th or 5th cast I got a nice 3 pounder on a buzzbait and that was the last topwater bite I got. Being as stubborn as I am it took me an hour or so to be convinced of that. Ended up with 5 fish between 1.5 and that 3 pounder and a few other hits mostly on soft jerkbaits. I finally found a pattern late in the morning that included shoreline near small clumps of weeds and shade.
Thanks for the link, thats a great site. Might try and hook up and fish with Mr Pacemaker. I got some new reels, new line and some new soft plastics, so I am off to the Ashburn pond, the one with the island in the middle. I'm off.

Your kidding right? ;D That not only would look wierd. But it would feel wierd too......... :-/
Wait 'till I get some pics the next time we're out fishing. That's a photoshop picture just waiting to happen. ;D

Trevor, I truely believe that you know better than to get me worked up. >
Trev, we need to get one of those pics with the guy fishing with the spinning reel upside down. It's an instant classic in the making.
I would... but... Rob would take me out on the boat just to throw me out of the boat, literally. ;D
As long as you have your pfd, it might still be worth the trouble.

I see you guys are looking to make it a tendem swimming event.........I'll wait..................'till the waters are cold!!!!

I have also been going there for a while, never had any problems there. Be courteous and I don't think that you will any problems either.
However in regards to the Reservoir, if you haven't you should check out the access off of "Alford Rd." Bit of a long walk to get to the water but it's a kick *** spot. Turn left as you get to the water, it's about a 1/2 mile walk but there are two feeder creeks that enter in a little cove and the fishing is AWESOME there. Spinners, crankbaits, and jigs.

gravedig!
lol, thanks for the tip pikesnogle.

if im correct there was an actual boat launch on the reservoir road side thats still there, but i could be wrong. the problem is you cant back your boat down to it. but you can put a boat in much easier on the reservoir road side so long as you can get it back there, its real opened up at the water without a lot of trees and clear section of shoreline. some guys were able to take the jon boat off the trailer, roll the trailer under the gate blocking you from driving near the water and put the boat back on and roll it down there and then chained the trailer to a tree while they went out. parking is real limited no matter where you go there. i remember the 80s as a kid, you could drive right along side the water...
also ive been wanting to try the alford road spot, but havent been there in awhile...also, has anyone actually been able to get to the goose creek reservoir right down the road from beaverdam creek reservoir? i think it got closed off long time ago
Red Bear, have you been to the Mt. Hope launch recently? They cleared a lot of brush and the big boulders that were there and put in a mulch/dirt type ramp. You could easily launch a jon from there as long as you can carry it a few feet.

havent been since last year, its nice to hear theyve done that much to the place. loudoun and fairfax counties should work together to do a little more to improve access there
I dunno. I'm kind of on the fence. I'd like to see something like a rental place pop up but I'm sure that the lack of facilities contributes to the relatively few poachers, light traffic, and small amounts of trash at the reservoir.
The new Mt. Hope area is a BIG improvement for launching small craft.
In the case of Beaverdam, facilities would help clean the place up. For those that don't know, a decent number of "undesirables" and wannabe gang thugs hang around the Reservior Rd launch and the catwalk by the dam. Some VDGIF officials I spoke to have noticed that in such cases, making the area more public increases the "spotlight" on any shady activities and thus tends to keep the place neater. my guess is it would be a tradeoff. We'd see more used fishing line laying around, but fewer campfire remains and broken Corona bottles. But, nobody has any plans to change any of this right now, so I don't see it happening for some time.
The current situation at Beaverdam is unlikely to change, and as far as I am concerned that is great news. The reason for the current state is Beaverdam Creek Resevoir is owned by Fairfax county and Fairfax has no interest in improving a facility for Loudoun county residents. Loudoun county on the other hand will not improve property that they do not own.
A wonderful catch 22, that gives us this fantastic hidden treasure.
A little bit of trash (which I try to pick up a bit on each visit), is preferable to having the place overrun by hoards of people. Which would happen, if it was improved into a park.
im not saying they need to build a park there or anything, but improvements upon the areas already open would be great. like removing some trees and making better areas to park. i just remember that place when it had much better access and shorelines that werent overgrown, of course that was the mid 80s...there have been times where i thought about going in there with one of those saws on a pole and cutting a few limbs off trees. i also thought about getting a jon boat or canoe, but now i took my old truck off the road and have no way to haul one lol...
QuoteThe new Mt. Hope area is a BIG improvement for launching small craft.
i went on sunday. i parked about 20 feet from the water. no problem for jon boats.
yep. those boulders were a huge PITA to lift a jon around
These boulders? I was out for a couple of hours on Saturday where I caught a couple of dinks. By the way, it was maiden voyage 2.0.
there used to be another big boulder right next to that one. You had to shimmy around/over it with boats.
these boulders
Those were the ones! I believe they may have cleared a tree or some brush also.
You guys are wimps! Those don't seem that bad!
the first picture is deceptive. You normally can't launch there on that side in the summer without getting muddy.
So....that leaves the second picture. With a heavy kayak or a jon that requires two people...it wasn't fun. It wasn't that bad but you would have to be careful where you stepped or you could trip on the rocks.
