fishing user avatarCaylub reply :

Just checking to see how many Alabama fisherman we have out there. I would like to start a Bragging Rights thread for us Alabamians. It has worked out well for the Florida group and the northeast guys are doing well also. I just need to get some guys on board and we will get this ball rolling.

fishing user avatarBassinLou reply :

Way to lead from the front Caylub. I wish you and any of the Alabama anglers that join the best of luck. You guys have a great fishery as well.

fishing user avatarCaylub reply :

fishing user avatarCaylub reply :

Hi there Geno nice to hear from you. Would you be interested in a little friendly competition? It will be a 5 fish bag over the course of a month. The person with the most inches wins. Fish are photographed showing the length.Tip of the Lip to the tip of the tail. Pretty simple stuff. It is purely for fun and bragging rights of course. It will be slow at first but that's how these things go. As time goes on they take on a life of thier own. We would love for you to join us.

fishing user avatarCaylub reply :

So Geno can I count you in?

fishing user avatarbasshole8190 reply :

fishing user avatarbassinshankles reply :

fishing user avatarCaylub reply :

fishing user avatarJustin2 reply :

fishing user avatarCaylub reply :

Anybody doing any fishing right now? I've been tied up with family stuff and finishing up a little Jon boat. I haven't fished at all this year. What about you guys?

fishing user avatarbasshole8190 reply :

I've been twice and caught a few small fish. nothing to write home about. ready for february and some warmer weather so the fish will start prespawn migration

fishing user avatarCaylub reply :

I won't be able to go out this weekend, I have a few more ducks to get in a row, but next weekend unless the Chattahoochee freezes over I'll be out there putting all the advise you gave me to good use.

fishing user avatarbasshole8190 reply :

Good luck i haven't been able to get out to the hooch lately the river here has been very muddy making it a tough bite from what I've heard. But it seems to be clearing up now may be able to try and get out mlk day.

fishing user avatarCaylub reply :

I see what you mean about the muddy water. I went out with a buddy of mine today to run his bayliner and the river was NASTY! We did some hybrid fishing, but we never got a bite. We were right below a dam and the birds were going crazy inside the bouts out of reach to us. I'm thinking that's where all the action was. Birds usually mean shad are around and the hybrid aren't too far behind. I hope you have better luck on Monday.

Is anyone else doing any fishing?

fishing user avatarTempleton reply :

I'm Templeton from talladega county. Home lake is Lake Howard and Lake Virginia.

fishing user avatarCaylub reply :

Hello Templeton. Hows it going?

fishing user avatarBassinLou reply :

Hey Caylub, you are trendsetter. Now Connecticut is doing a roll call of their own.

fishing user avatarCaylub reply :

That's awesome. I believe this winter lull is going to pass soon and everyone is going to get cranked back up. I am just following your lead brother.

fishing user avatarswj reply :

I have been thinking about heading south at the end of february hitting guntersville for a couple of days then to Eufaula. Any helpful tips for Eufaula you wouldn't mind sharing. Thanks in advance.

fishing user avatarCaylub reply :

Pm sent.

fishing user avatarbasshole8190 reply :

Caylub, fished the river a little bit today caught 7 short fish and one hybrid. all caught on a black jig with a saphirre paca craw trailer. in the main river channel all positioned below a log jam. the river is still muddy but not as bad as it was a few days ago.

fishing user avatarbasshole8190 reply :

Headed to the lake tomorrow its a little muddy but hoping the muddy water and warmer weather will get the bass active.

fishing user avatarBrian Needham reply :

why don't yall consider coming to the annual roadtrip?

this year it is at Wilson!

good times

fishing user avatarCaylub reply :

I'd like to go. Idk if it is in the cards though. My kids are still little so its hard to get away.

fishing user avatarbasshole8190 reply :

Same here caylub. my wife doesn't mind if i get a chance to fish on vacation but to take a vacation strictly to fish while she sits at home with my wild 2 yr old? I don't think shell go for that this year.

fishing user avatarBamacapsfan reply :

I'm here in Huntsville. Do a lot of bank fishing at Wilson lake and along the Tennessee river. wife and I are purchasing our first boat in May. With our kids all grown and out of the house we're open to any gathering or fishing endeavor.

fishing user avatarCaylub reply :

Welcome to the Forums. You should check out the Road trip in the General Forum. I'm sure you and your wife would have a blast. How's the fishing in Huntsville?

fishing user avatarCaylub reply :

Hey Basshole how is the fishing up your way?

fishing user avatarbasshole8190 reply :

Been kinda hot and cold lately

changes daily it seems. the west point lake fish seemed confused and haven't completely dedicated themselves to prespawn patterns yet.

the hooch has been more productive but the quality isn't where it should be. lots of 12-16" lm and spots and schoolie size stripes and hybrids. shoal bass are starting to get active.

I'm in between boats for a few weeks as i sold mine and am on the prowl for a brand spanking new rig. so i won't be out for a while unless I'm invited by others.

how bout you any luck lately?

I hope to meet all you guys at this year's RoadTrip.

Any thoughts on fishing Wilson around the 1st of May?

fishing user avatarWbeadlescomb reply :

Any interest in doing the five fish a month/week

length tournament?

fishing user avataratpns1234 reply :

I am a little of both I guess. Born in Bama, lives in Florida, and do most of my fishing in the Mobile area.

fishing user avatarCaylub reply :

Yea I would like to do the five fish tournament thing. Who all is in? I'm in.

Me too. Doubt I win but it'll be fun trying. I was think maybe we could do it on a weekly basis but bi-weekly could be better. Then you could do a point system for winning and we all throw in a few dollars to get a plaque made at the end of the season for highest cumulative point's

fishing user avatarCaylub reply :

The fishing has been kind of slow Basshole. I've caught a couple bass recently, but I'm fishing for hybrid most of the time right now. The hybrid bite is off and on. They are good size and have a ton of fight in them so that makes it worth it in my opinion.

fishing user avatarCaylub reply :

That's an interesting concept Wbeadlescomb. I was thinking of just doing the bragging rights thing like the Florida group does. 5 fish for a month, cull as needed, person with the most accumulated inches wins bragging rights. I only get to fish like once a week so I wouldn't really be in contention in a weekly tournament. I like the idea of throwing in some cash and buying the overall winner a plaque at the end of the season.

fishing user avatarBassinLou reply :

I wish you guys the best, if you all are able to get a bragging rights tourney off the ground. Caylub, has been working at trying to get one off the ground for a while now. I have been following you guys on here for a little while and i think there are enough of you to give the tourney a go. We were fortunate and very successful launching and maintaining the same tourney down in FL for 7 consecutive months last year. It was a fun experience and we had a good time. Best of luck to all of you.

once a month could work. What do the Florida guys use for ground rules?
fishing user avatarpkpence reply :

We are going to the black river area tomorrow. Any tips?

? Cause If so I definitely want to be apart of it lol.

fishing user avatarCaylub reply :

When would you guys want to kick this thing off? We could get it going in the next few days, wait until the first day of April, or wait until later in the season if you guys would like. the link BassinLou posted is a great reference for the layout. Thanks Lou.

You bet Caylub.  The layout I posted is was what worked for us in FL. The NE group, that NEjitterbug, started, also used a similar system with great success. My tip is find what works for you guys, and go with that. Once the rules are established and everyone follows them, you will all see how fun and competitive such a simple system can be. I am excited for you all. Have fun and good luck. You are in good hands with Caylub...
