South Florida guys 2024

fishing user avatarLCpointerKILLA reply :

I was wondering if the SoFla guys on this forum ever get together and fish. It would be cool to get something going, maybe a little shore fishing?

fishing user avatarSirSnookalot reply :

I go every day.  This time of the year I don't leave until 5 or 5:30, once the snook are on I'm gone by 3 am.

The question is who else from the forum do you fish with, or have the south florida guys gotten together and fished? I'm wondering if we can all get together and do some shore fishing or something

fishing user avatarfivesixone reply :

I've never met anyone from here yet, but I would be up for it if you guys organized something! ;)

i assume he is talking about bass fishing. Thus his posting his question on BASSresource.

fishing user avatartallydude reply :

You should have been on here earlier. I put together several (at least 5) get togethers between 2006-2008. I have moved to Tallahassee now, but I always had the guys meet at Okeeheelee Park in West Palm Beach. We had a lot of fun. I think we had about 10 guys coming.

I see no mention of bass.

LC and I briefly discussed shore fishing for other species, that is what I thought he meant.

fishing user avatarSoFl-native reply :

you're right. He probably wants to get together and walk the beach for pompano. I will bring the sand fleas.

hehehehe ;D

fishing user avatarSouth FLA reply :

I fished with fellow local and national members would like to fish more often, but I am only free on weekdays and most people weekends.

Now that I have a baby boy its going to be tougher, but all I have to do is walk out my backyard to slay'em!

fishing user avatarGLADES reply :

I have fished with a couple of south florida members and it was a good time. I have not fished in over 4 weeks, so I am ready to hitch up the boat and dust off the poles.

fishing user avatarBassn Blvd reply :

Like Tallywhacker said, we used to do it all the time at Okeehelee.  (that doesn't sound right)  I'm ready to have another get together and Okeeheelee has been pretty good lately.

fishing user avatarKrzkev reply :

I'm in, I live 3 miles from that park, someone has to take charge and organize it or it won't happen.  So who's the coordinator?

fishing user avatartallydude reply :

I am officially not coordinating this one. I live 7 hours away.

fishing user avatar-HAWK- reply :

I would be interested in attending as well. I have posted about meeting up a few times actually, but nothing ever comes together. I know on other forums I visit they have individual chapters for members in different areas. Each chapter has a group coordinator who puts meets together and helps bring new members to the site. May be something for Glenn to consider.

lol yeah that didn't sound right, but where exactly is okeehelee?

fishing user avatarKrzkev reply :

Okeehelee park is just south of Royal palm Beach,  Forest Hill Blvd, Just east of 441 (St. Rd 7).  Fairly big park with allot of fishable water.

fishing user avatarLCpointerKILLA reply :

So should we all pick some day to go there? Maybe do a little fishing and grilling?

fishing user avatarKrzkev reply :

We need a coordinator, who is willing to step up and coordinate this get together?  We have a place. (okeeheelee park)  What's next coordinator?

fishing user avatarLCpointerKILLA reply :

I would be the coordinator, but I would rather have one of the very respected veterans of this site do it. I feel like if I was the one to pick the time and date as opposed to a "been posting a long time" dude, less people would take is seriously and actually show up. Can someone step up please? It would be cool to see how you all fish, rather than just read about it lol. Thanks in advance to whoever decides to do it.

fishing user avatartallydude reply :

Dude, you've made enough posts to do it. I used to put these together all the time- you're making a mountain out of a mole hill. Just pick date and time (typically a Saturday around noon) and get guys to sign up. Once they do, assign them an item to bring (hot dogs, drinks, etc.)

Get phone numbers and confirm.

It's that easy.

Do you need to reserve a pavilion from Okeeheelee or do you just show up? LCkilla if you Coordinate this thing Ill show up.

fishing user avatarKrzkev reply :

I'll sign up, set it up,  you da man....

fishing user avatarSouth FLA reply :

Give me a weeks heads up and I'm in.

fishing user avatarLCpointerKILLA reply :

Alright ten four me and my buddy rob are going to go check the place out this week. Maybe there will be a number to call on the pavilions?..

fishing user avatardj T nasty 69 reply :

sounds like fun .... ;D ;D ;D

fishing user avatartallydude reply :

We never rented a pavillion. Usually we just found an open grill across the street from the kayak rental place. I think it's the Alligator pavillion area. We just set up over there. You probably don't need to spend the money on renting the pavillion.

fishing user avatarunderwraps1 reply :

I go running at that park sometimes, and I actually planned on going fishing there today before I even read this thread. I would be willing to go if you guys would show me the ropes. Considering I've only been fishing for a few months now. Lets see if we can get this setup so I don't have to fish alone for once.

fishing user avatarSpeed Worm reply :

I'm in!  ;D

fishing user avatarLCpointerKILLA reply :

Alright guys truth is it's too d**n far for me to just go and check it out. It would be great if someone who lives a lot closer would check it out and coordinate this thing, or just tell me the details about the place and I will coordinate it. This weekend we are going to the gun show sat. & sun. and the following weekend I will be in Orlando. Personally I would like to go on a weekday, but I am a college student and have much more time on my hands than you working guys. So I may not be able to do this on the weekend until march 7th. I will 100% keep you all posted and make this little roadtrip happen. Thanks guys for showing so much interest. I will keep everyone posted, and it seems like we will have a good turnout.

But for sure, will somebody in the area please give me all the details about this place?

Thanks

John

fishing user avatarunderwraps1 reply :

Sent you a PM LCKilla.

fishing user avatarLCpointerKILLA reply :

Alright Underwraps1 is going to scope the place out for us and answer some questions so we know what equpment/tackle to bring, food, if we need sunblock, ect.

ex:

How much bank access is there?

How many people could fish the shore without interfering with each other?

How many "hotspots" are on the shore? i.e. lay downs, bushes, baitfish cover, anywhere on the shore that is obviously the most productive

Are there any picnic tables?

is it shady or really sunny (do I need sunblock)?

Is it quiet or does the park get crowded?

How many other bank fishermen can I expect to see there?

Is there a grill?

Thanks a million Underwraps1!!

fishing user avatar-HAWK- reply :

Ill answer all of your questions right now, I have been to the park a number of times.

How much bank access is there? There is a ton of bank access, probably a few miles worth.

How many people could fish the shore without interfering with each other? 400-500 no problem.

How many "hotspots" are on the shore? i.e. lay downs, bushes, baitfish cover, anywhere on the shore that is obviously the most productive?

There is a few fish feeders around the park that normally produce pretty well.

Are there any picnic tables? Yes

is it shady or really sunny (do I need sunblock)? Sunblock would be recommended

Is it quiet or does the park get crowded? Quiet for the most part.

How many other bank fishermen can I expect to see there? 5-15 on average.

Is there a grill? Yes

fishing user avatarunderwraps1 reply :

Thanks hawk

fishing user avatarBassn Blvd reply :

Hawk nailed all the questions dead on. I fish their on average once a week for years.

Boats are allowed but t/m only.

Lots of grass so don't plan on throwing any type of cranks from shore. Some places you can but 75% of places you won't be able to.

Definitely jigs, craws any type soft plastics and spinnerbaits are top producers.

Definitely bring sun block unless you go last couple hours in the evening.

No way in heck are you going to want to walk this park and fish so bring a bike or drive from spot to spot. That is if you want to fish ALL the lakes/spots.

I suggest the weekday but weekends are ok.

Water clarity is very good.

Bring waders if you have any.  You can wade 30-50 feet from shore in many places to access deeper water.

fishing user avatar-HAWK- reply :

Whats up LCKilla, Any plans coming together yet?

fishing user avatarfivesixone reply :

Here's their little website if anyone wanted to see it: http://www.co.palm-beach.fl.us/parks/locations/okeeheelee.htm

I'm there as long as it's not one of my busy weekends coming up... ;)

fishing user avatarunderwraps1 reply :

Yay, yay, yay.

fishing user avatarunderwraps1 reply :

LCKilla, post something to keep everybody updated so they don't think this fell off.

fishing user avatarSouthflangler reply :

I don't mean to be a downer but bring your small stuff. I have fished there more than a few times and from the bank its not that great. You may catch some fish but most will be less than 1/4 of a pound. If you are going to go to meet the people on the forum thats cool. It would be a perfect place for a meet and greet but just dont expect to catch giant bass.

You must be using the wrong bait.  I have caught numerous fish over 4 pounds.  I catch at least a 3 pounder every trip.

fishing user avatarSouth FLA reply :

On average fish are small there, I have had 30 fish outings and nothing over 2lbs, but believe me there are some big'uns in there!  I missed a huge one over 8lbs on a frog of course!  Hint, try where the skiers go.

fishing user avatarKrzkev reply :

I will go and check it out today, I drive past there everyday on my way to work.  I will just look for a good spot with a grill, pavillion and close to some good water.  Havn't fished there in a while,  but I know there is some good spots.

I was out there on my lunch break the past 2 days throwing the Anaconda. I hooked up with 2 nice bass, probably around 4-5 lbs, they got off though. I need a new big bait rod. :-/

I did manage to somehow catch 2 bass smaller than the Anaconda. :-?

I'm starting to like Okeeheelee a lot now, though. You just gotta find the spots that aren't full of those nasty weeds they got in there. There's lots of good spots with a good amount of lilly pads and whatnot.

Anyone know the alligator situation there? Are there a lot of 'em?

Shhhhhhhh! Some things are better left not talked about. And please release all bass if you're gonna fish in my spot. Thank you.

fishing user avatarSouthflangler reply :

Haha your spot I like that.

fishing user avatar-HAWK- reply :

Any updates on this??

fishing user avatarunderwraps1 reply :

Heeellllllooooo?

fishing user avatarBassn Blvd reply :

I guess this idea has been canned.

fishing user avatarGLADES reply :

Weekends are tough for me to fish right now.

I can bring the boat up to Lake Ida on the weekdays mornings.

Anyone like to fish during the week?

fishing user avatarLCpointerKILLA reply :

I defiantly need to quit this idea. something has happened and im only spending half of my time in boca

Sorry

fishing user avatarregretlove reply :

I was just at Okeeheelee this past wknd with my kids.  We caught 5 nice ones ranging from 2-4lbs (we know the skiers spot too..lol)- I would be up for a get together - anyone still organizing? :)
