Hey guys, Jordan here from south Florida. Just got myself a jon boat and was looking for some new water to fish. I've fished l67 few times and also fished out of the holey lands a couple times as well. Any suggestions?
Little 67 is a nice spot for a small boat. Go west on 41 past the Miccasukee to the 20 mile bend. Go across the bridge to the memorial for the plan crash. The concrete ramp is on the little canal past the memorial. The canal is only 20 feet wide in spots and goes for miles through the flats. There are lots of pads out there. Stay in the middle when running, the sides are solid rock, and jagged in spots. Lots of quality bass caught out there, and few people fishing Little 67. Good luck!
No it goes no where near L28, Little 67 parallels big 67, and runs toward the Miami River from US41. It runs through a massive flat. It is a quiet place to fish without all the big boats running past. A john boat with a little kicker is perfect out there.
L 28, sometimes call the Interceptor canal, from 41 is another good place to fish in a john boat. There are 7 weirs to pull the john boat over. You can fish out there and be totally by yourself. Lots of cypress out there.
Little L67 is a great place. Now the canal does go for miles, but they blocked it off around the 3 or 4 mile mark. There are some big orange signs and a few milk jugs anchored in the middle of the canal to indicate where it's blocked off. Now, if you are in a jon boat, you may be able to pull it over the rocks and fish the rest (not sure on the legality of fishing past the block).
Tightlines.
Jordan,
Did you get a tow vehicle? Nice to see you on here. I dig your profile picture. I remember that day ;)All the information the guys above said is good. That L-28 off Tamiami Tr is not a secret but, but you would think it was since I rarely see many boats out there. It is 10 miles of fish and some kind of pretty! It has shallow deer crossings (like the area I took you) that keep the big boats out. You really should get out there.
Shane I didn't realize that was you in his profile picture. Jlo knows how to pick a great guide!!!!! Waiting for another GoPro video, always entertaining.
Captain shane,
Yeah my mom passed down her SUV to pull my boat! Yeah that was a real fun time thanks again capt'n, must repeat some time! I'm gonna go out there this weekend, is the thin canal running along the 41 wide enough to navigate?
The answer is yes, I have run it in my 18 foot boat. Just watch for downed trees in the water, and stay in the middle, rocky edges to that canal.
If you run it early in the morning you will covered with spiders from the trees!!!! Always fun!

Alrighty, I don't think I'll have a problem thank you!
I ran it in my 21 Stratos a couple of weeks ago. Tight for me but fine for your boat. Here is the video of the run. This will give you an idea of what to expect.

Wow... Shane, two things. You weren't kidding about how tight those surroundings were going to be. #2. When I see your videoes you show me areas of the glades I have never seen!!
Damb Shane, I'd have to wear a Depends incase I peed a little. Brian.
Is there a ramp for the l28?
There is a dirt ramp along 41 just before the guard rail starts. I have no problem dropping my boat in although sometimes it does get muddy. It is a good run down the canal before it turns to the north west toward the first weir. If the water is high enough you may be able to power over the weir in a small boat. There are six more weirs to cross.
do you know the depth at the weirs at its lowest?

Right now there is a foot of water on the first weir, which is the shallowest. Come spring there will be no water on the weirs...that's when it get's really good back there.
Have any of you guys seen bass on spawning beds yet?

Yep... they have been spawning since last month.
Yup saw some yesterday out at lox the canal in my backyard has them too.On 1/11/2015 at 2:36 PM, hawgenvy said:Have any of you guys seen bass on spawning beds yet?

Goodmorning, fished out there yesterday (Sunday) had a real good day. Took my mom out and she caught a couple of her own. We had to sit all the way in the bow of my boat to keep the prop from scratching the bottom on the weirs! Lots of small fish and 3 fish over 3.5lbs, fished weightless flukes all day. I just wanna know how I'm gonna get passed the weirs in no water at all....
Shane, I have been with a guy we had to pull the canoe over several weirs, and several were bone dry. Now when you get out and walk over that weir you have to worry about pythons besides cotton mouths. It was thick with gators in the low water season.

I'll link you guys to a video that I took yesterday crossing the weirs in my jon boat.. I was with my mom and I didn't want her getting out so I had her sit all the way in the bow and I dragged it all the way through. Luckily didn't run into anything dangerous..
Jlo23, I can't wait to see that video. It is pretty out there with all the cypress trees in the area.
Video was too long but I took a screenshot.

Too bad you couldn't edit the video. I would have loved to have seen a different part of the glades I have never seen before. Just the screen shot alone confirms this.

It's pretty cool out there man. The scenery is enough to be able to call it a "good day" the fish are just a bonus. If you ever wanna take a run out there, shoot me a PM! My tin wouldn't be too hard to carry over the weirs when the water level drop!
Big cypress is beautiful

Yes Robert I do miss my Gheenoe.

Hey guys I am planning to go out tomorrow morning and do some bank fishing. Considering the canal behind Holiday Park, or a few of the rest areas on Alligator alley (least probable), or maybe a bit further north to the Holey Lands. Any recommendations? Also having to consider the danger (gators and all), as I will be bank fishing most likely by myself. Any up to date fishing reports about those places would be great help!

If I had to bank fish in the glades, I would choose holey lands. More bank accessibility than the alley and Holiday. On the West side of the ramps, and West side of the big lake there is alot of bank access. Now I have not personally fished it, but from what I seen there is trail back there that leads to the area I am referencing. As far as gators go, keep an eye out. My concern would be the slithering kind. So wear boots. I wouldn't fish the other locations because from what I have seen and experienced in my younger days when i didnt have a boat, is bank access. Throw in a few people because of the holiday and bank access becomes even less. Good luck out there Rick.
Thanks for the advice Lou. I always wear boots no matter were I go fishing helps with bugs, and like you said snakes. If I do go to the Holey Lands I will most likely stick to any canals by the dirt roads. I won't be going to deep into the place either. At least not by myself. I'm not trying to become survivorman out in gator country.

I understand what your saying Rick. However the area I am talking about is not deep in the Holey lands. Its directly across the ramp on the SW side of the big lake. From what I can remember its a long stretch of accessible bank. You just may have to maneuver through a short trail to access the area I am describing.
I agree with Lou, the Holey Land has good access all along. You can easily run all the way out to the big pump station and the Miami Canal. They recently mowed the banks out there so you have good visibility for the snakes. Endless bank fishing opportunities.
Awesome thanks guys. Guess thats the plan for tomorrow! Short grass means I'm in. Hopefully I can hook up with a big un.
Well it was not a great day, only 1 today in Holey Lands. But at least it was a decent 2 pounds.

Bummer, I have been waiting to see how your report was going to be. Where did you end up fishing at the Holey Lands?
I actually fished the big lake and the canal that connects to it. The grass was nice and low, no gators, but no fish. I saw a couple bowfins ( i think). Saw some Gar, and small bass. I got the hit on a Yum Dinger on the second cast after I had tried top water and a crank. So instinctively I stuck with the Dinger for maybe another 30 minutes and got nothing. The water was pretty clear and there were a few spots that had small fish, other areas were completely desolate even between the pads. The bigger fish must have been held up in deeper water. I tried faster retrieval and slow retrieval to the point of barely moving.

Well, I at least you didn't get skunked. But I understand you wanted to catch your share especially with the long drive and all. The fish will be coming around soon.

I was out there this weekend, did you happen to see a black truck towing a white ranger bass boat while bank fishing, I remember looking at a couple of guys early in the AM and on the way back early afternoon. I fished the back canal (Miami Canal) and ended up catching about 20 up to 4lbs.

Hey South FLA, I didn't see you. I think you were in a different area. You were deeper into the Holey Land than I was. I only got a chance to fish the big lake. I didn't get as far as the Miami Canal. The only truck I saw was a white pickup and it probably belonged to the guys fishing the lake on a jon boat.
But I'm glad you had some luck out there. Maybe next time I will try and fish the Miami Canal if the bank is maintained well like the big lake was.
Headed out yesterday with my BIL to both MM35 and US 27. First half of the day was at MM35 attempted to go MM41 but very dense hyacinths mats made my passage futile. Passing cold front with high winds also made the fishing very challenging. We caught 5 bass 1 being 3.5lbs. After the cold front blew over, we made our way to US 27. The water conditions better. No hyacinth's lol. Winds were still high, but we were able to land 19 more bass for total of 24 for the day. Soft plastics and frogs produced the catches.

Nice work Lou. You did a great job considering the crap weather. I was so tempted to go out to 8th street canal by the valujet memorial or somewhere down the canal. But said screw it.

Thanks Rick. The weather was challenging, but we made the best of it and had a good time. I guess it beats dodging thunderstorms. Lol
Sunday 1/25/15, Alligator Alley MM 39. Went out today after the cold front with Dave (Canesfan). We were not expecting much because a good front can turn off Florida Bass quickly, and a blue bird sky, a double whammy. To our pleasant surprise we had almost constant action for most of the morning. You had to fish slow and just slowly pull the plastics to be on the bite. Vast majority were in the pads. We ended with at least 70, solid fish and good fight getting them out of the pads. All around fun day, and lots of action.
Sunday 1/25/15 sawgrass off us 27. Homestead Hawg hunter club tournament 6 am to 2pm. I fished as a co angler. Weather was around 50 degrees in the morning, water was clear, and clear blue skies. The morning started out slow and picked up as the day got warmer. I got a total of 10 bites, 6 fish landed, 4 were keepers and weighed in a total of 7.53 pounds. 13.99 won the tournament. Soft plastics was what produced for me. Junebug and watermelon colors fished very slow. Overall had a great time on the water. Sawgrass park is quite relaxing.
Nice reports everyone!!! I went out of Holiday Park the other day but had to cut the trip short due to trolling motor battery issues. Got some new ones this weekend so I'm back in action. The boat ramps on 27, north of 75 looked pretty busy yesterday (more than usual). Was headed up to Lake O.
Sunday 2/1 Alligator Alley 9 am to 2pm mile marker 35. Temperature 66 to 70 and water temperature still cold. Had a slight overcast the entire day. Fished with friend from the hawg hunters.
Fished the alley west after seeing geog report last week and the action was the same. We got a late morning start to the day but started catching them in the pads around 10:30 am. All the fish were dinks measuring around 10 to 11 inches. We lost a few larger ones in the pads. The action was constant until around noon and the bite slowed a little. Ended the day with a little over 20 fish on the boat. Caught all of mine with flukes and stick baits. My buddy lost a nice healthy fish on a jig but lost it right next to the boat.
Overall very fun day. Might bring the lady with me next week to catch some more.
Sam it was great to see you out there Sunday. Glad you and your partner got into some bass. There are some big girls there but most are still where the food is, back in the junk. Good luck with the boat.
WTG Sam. Glad to see you went out there. I fished L29 with Terry on 1/31. Caught a bunch of dinks, and lost a 4 or 5 lb'r.
