Value Jet Memorial In Miami,,, Good Or Bad Fishing??????? 2024

..I recently found what looks to be a great fishing area,its sw 8st.(tamiami trail) west about 11 miles west of Krome ave. on the right hand side,its were the Value jet memorial is at..the area is called the Browns farm wildlife management area..theres alot of canals there and to public boat ramps.can anybody tell if this area is productive?..what can i expect to catch there? & what baits should i use?..thank you guys happy 4th july and god bless u all..

All that area is considered Everglades. If you have ever fished the glades its the same assortment of baits and techniques for this time of year. I fished that area years ago. I do not remember if the fish have access to marsh and flats out there. If they do, then their migration more than likely have begun.

Sounds like you're talking about the L-67 that runs between Holiday Park and 8th Street. The bass have access to the marsh but you can still find some good topwater action in the evenings. Lots of 2-4 lb bass in the area but it's definitely tougher this time of year. If you fish west up the more narrow canal there's less pads and more rocks but you can still find some smallies there.
Dark worms, poppers, toads, and stick baits work well. As BassinLou said same things you would use anywhere in the Everglades.

i was planing on doing some fishing from the bank of all those canals after entering the value jet memorial site & try my luck,im going for anything that hits my bait,,im dieing to hook a good sized,snake head,i heard they put up a hard fight..but as a general bait to catch anything,what would u all recommend when it comes to artificial or other baits like bread balls,worms,shiners??

I don't know that there's a general "catch all" bait out there - if there was forums like this wouldn't exist!
But if I was packing a light box I'd take dark colored ol' monsters, a rebel pop-r, a gold/black x-rap, and some horny toads. Get some moss green braid and you're in good shape to hit up a lot of different conditions.

its not browns farm area (my mistake).. it where they made the value jet memorial after that big jet liner crashed in the everglades back in 1997 ..that area is full of deep water canals and its a very popular fishing & air boat location too

Johnny, the plane crashed out in the flats, the whole area in general as several good canals that run for miles.
I dont think the crash site was in any specific canal.
3 pines at Holiday Park off L 67is one of the deepest canals in the whole system. Its consistently produced big fish for decades. The crash was witnessed from there, that may be causing a little confusing.
The Magic Canal L-67 C runs adjacent to L-67, great big fish canal.
Im showing my age with all the old names for these places.

i was recently out by the value jet crash memorial site doing some canal fishing..i tryed a crap load of different baits all artificial,the 1 i got the most hits was my rattle trap shiner ,it got the most attention for all types of fish.for some reason that ahs been my most productive lure in fresh n salt water.

There are ramps for both L67 and L67 C (also known as little 67) in the memorial area.
Lots of big bass fishing throughout the years in this area. Good ramps in both locations. Like someone said it's a deep canal in places on the big L. There are also freshwater springs in the same area. It all = good fishing. If your walking the bank be careful. Big critters of all types around.

Several years back, (just north of the ValueJet Monument) L-67A was touted as having the highest catch-rate in Florida.
The best month is April, and during one year with low water, levee 67 (L-67A) was producing about 5 Bass / Hr

If your fishing from shore, throw a big 12" worm with a 1/2 ounce tungsten. If you are parking at the ramp that is by that spillway, just fan cast that entire area. There is a ledge with rocks. Cast to the pads and drag that big worm back, should get bit.
I've caught big fish from that little bend canal before you get to the trail. Snakes work really good as well.

Roger I remember reading Steve Waters column when he reported that. For a solid year, I was averaging over 20 pounds every tournament in the L67. I fished between cuts 4 and 8. When the water is low, its game on.

One day we fished along the shore of the canal, and every bass we landed brought a band of alligators closer & closer to shore.
Gators really don't bother me, but if I didn't keep my lunch bag next to me, I'd have lost it to the gators

Went out there today, tried a dark rage tail worm, a topwater jerk lure and a topwater frog. Not one hit. 
epic fail. Oh well maybe next time.

sorry 2 hear that buddy there are days like that,that y i always carry my casting net,live bait never fails...did u see any fish activity out there ,any signs of life?..maybe the fish r still hungover from new years eve partying hahaha...

LOL the only fish I actually saw were some giant suckerfish looking things along the bank. I tried around lilypads and other heavy green areas, I tried out in the center of the canal, along the bank, all attempts were futile.
You wouldn't have caught anything with that casting net either. I didn't even see baitfish.

Thats the Magic Canal, and like mentioned nowhere near browns farm.
February is the best month to go, after a cold snap through a large Gold rapala to the bank and let it sit. They bed on those big coral rocks
Theres some hogs in that canal I weighed a 13 plus for a guy once.

They are called suckermouth catfish. We have tons and tons of them. They are purely vegetarian. You come across a fish you can't ID, go to FWC fresh or saltwater fish identification and they will show you native and non-native species that live on our waters.

They feed off algae on the bottom, carp are little different. Another name for the suckermouth catfish, is armored catfish. They have a very tough exterior.

yes i found them under ( armored cat fish )online.they an ugly looking fish..,can u buy algae at a bait shop n put it on a hook hahaha.
