fishing user avatarDan: reply :

I'm probably going on Saturday, as are a few people I know.

Thai, David, are you guys planning on going? Depending on how many of us go then we will ride down with my buddy. If there are too many to fit in his car with his buddies than we can take our own car. Either way, it should be a lot of fun.

Rowland, are we meeting at the Daiwa booth again?

fishing user avatarWayne P. reply :

I'll be there

fishing user avatarMicro reply :

The Daiwa booth was big, visible, and convenient.  So I'm all for meeting there again.  Even if they moved it.

fishing user avatarDan: reply :

Exactly what I was thinking.

fishing user avatarThai reply :

I'm with you Dan, lets hope I got enough money saved up!

fishing user avatarNewAngler reply :

I'm in. I'll more than likely have some open spots in my car. I'm about three minutes off 95 in north stafford. Saturday is the day I'm going.

fishing user avatarSam reply :

I will be there, too.

Working bass boat raffle and kids casting from 4 to 7 PM on Saturday but will be there around 2 to walk around.

Be sure to put Green Top on your itinerary, too. Worth the trip. Off exit 86 on I-95, heading west towards Elmont.

Then, go left onto Route 1 and Green Top is to your right about 1/4 mile down the highway.

Gander Mountain is at exit 86 with BPS at exit 89.

Bring lots of money!!!!  :)   :)   :)

Micro, what time do we want to meet at the Daiwa booth?

fishing user avatarMicro reply :

I can do it any time that day (as long it's not like 8:00 AM or something like that).  So others can choose the time.

fishing user avatarBigs reply :

I'll be there on friday or saturday with my buddy brent. I'll make sure I have at least a grand to spend incase I see anything I have to have. Im plannin on findin more deals at the hillendale flea market in february tho. Cant wait.

fishing user avatarDan: reply :

I'll ask my ride when he is planning to get there and I'll have to plan around that. It'll probably be sometime in the morning. I know we'll also be planning a stop at the VA tackle mecca that is Green Top. If you've never been there, you MUST stop in to see the best tackle store I've ever been to.

fishing user avatarAluma-Bass reply :

ill be there fri or sat evening sometime! I think greentop normally has big sale around the time of the expo every year 8-)!

fishing user avatarBigs reply :

Green top has a great selection but their prices suck. I rather buy my stuff online then waste my cash there. If they have a sale their prices still wont be any better then online prices. The only thing they are good for is some of the smaller less known tackle companies that are hard to find.

fishing user avatarDan: reply :

Their prices are inline with just about every other brick and mortar retailer. They might be more expensive than TW or something (which I'm not convinced they are) but they make up for it with the fact that you can go there and see the items in person before you buy them. That is VERY useful when researching about reels and rods.

I challenge you to find another store in the state that has as many high end G Loomis and Daiwa rods. They are the only place that I've found that sells Zillion rods.

fishing user avatarDan: reply :

My ride has changed his mind. Looks like we're aiming to go early Friday morning.

Who is going to be there on Friday?

fishing user avatarFroggin reply :

I'll be there on saturday with 2 grand to spend on something....

Ha Ha.... ;D ;D

what ever makes you feel good. i didn't expect anything less.

fishing user avatarDan: reply :

wow.

btw Steve, ever heard of a savings account?

fishing user avatarBigs reply :

catchin fish and just being out on the water makes me feel better then money. Havin family and friends is the best feelin. But it's true, you cannot take it with you when you die. So why be a tighwad bout things ? I rather enjoy myself even if it means spending cash on things I could live without. A 50 dollar reel will catch just as many fish but I prefer something a lil nicer in my hands. I dont go out and spend alot on cars, clothes, expensive boats, bar tabs, sushi, etc... I spend most my money on tackle and just livin expenses. I used to dump alot of money into customizing cars and that gets very expensive and not very rewarding. I think the fishing hobby is much more rewarding and cheaper then building a race car that Im never gonna drive anyways or a 40 thousand dollar boat that Im afraid is gonna get scratched up.

I have never been to the Expo, whats it like is it worth the price of admission??  I am about an hour away and thinking about going.... fill me in...

fishing user avatarhokiefisherman93 reply :

its a good time had.  i been going for the past couple years and hadn't been let down anytime i have gone.

fishing user avatarBigs reply :

My girlfriend has been several times back before I met her, she actually has been big into fishing for ages. She says its worth the price to get in, I however have never been. I'm hoping there is a Daiwa rep there that knows something bout the pixy type r coming out this year.

fishing user avatarSam reply :

Yes, it is worth the price of admission.

Check out the speakers, too. Nice lineup this year.

Don't forget to hit Green Top off exit 86 onto Route 1 South. Green Top usually has their sale the same weekend as the Fishing Expo.

And last year the Shimano reps were there and they really were great at answering questions.

Make the trip and see for yourself.  :)

fishing user avatarXLFISH reply :

I for one think it is important to support stores like Green Top. I compare Bass Pro Shops to the likes of Wal Mart in the sence that they are retail monsters that come to town and crush all the mom and pop stores that have struggled for decades through some tough times. I could walk into Green Top and have them order me an item if they do not carry it. They take the time to listen and do not baffle you with B.S. if they do not know the answer. I know what they pay for merchandice because I get the same price they do for 90% of what I need. They all stick it to you because they are running a business but at least Green Top uses lube where as B.P.S. just grins and shoves it all the way in. Again I think it is important to help support the mom and pops and the average Joes. If large chains like B.P.S. and Wal Mart corner the market, they will monopolize and charge you what ever they deem "Reasonable". Sorry to get off the subject. I got mailed a couple of tickets to the show and if boredom drives me to it, I will be there. I am glad to see you guys are making the drive. Your comradery is impressive.

fishing user avatarDan: reply :

From what I hear, Green Top has been competing favorably with BPS.

fishing user avatarBigs reply :

maybe so Dan but BPS doesnt have much in the way of deals hardly ever except big sales that they have maybe twice a year. Green top is gonna have a big sale startin a few days before the fishing expo so I suppose its worth a stop by there after I leave the fishing expo. I wont hold my breath for any crazy deals tho, I hope Im wrong.

fishing user avatarDan: reply :

I like Green Top because they carry minor brands like Case Plastics and they don't run out of good stuff like BPS does. They also have a far superior rod selection than BPS. Also, their employees actually know what they are talking about.

fishing user avatarFroggin reply :

I second that about knowing what they are talking about.  I like it when you ask someone about a product they can tell you where it is, whether they have it, and some info on it. Bass Pro has a good fishing selection but so far the people I talk to in the store have no clue on there products...

fishing user avatarBigs reply :

I agree with you on tackle selection and the staff knowing their stuff. I do happen to like Patrick at BPS in ashland tho. I've gotten so used to bargain shopping online, ebay, TT, that I hardly shop in stores anymore. I remember when green top had 5 inch senkos for 4.99 a bag tho, that deal was tough to beat. I must have bought 20 bags from them that week. Do they sell Dave's tournament tackle there ? Those swim jigs are dynamite on the potomac during the summer.

fishing user avatarDan: reply :

yep, they have DTT stuff at Green Top.

DTT usually has a booth at the expo as well. They have a bunch of jigs, spinnerbaits, etc...and also a few guys there who will assemble custom spinnerbaits for you. You choose skirt colors, head styles, and blade configurations and they put it together for you.

fishing user avatarSam reply :

Patrick is a bass fisherman who used to work at Dick's Sporting Goods before he moved over to BPS.

He is a very nice guy and very helpful.

But he is not on the level of the Green Top people.  :)

fishing user avatars13john reply :

was it the guy that worked at dicks in midlo...????

oo yah and those green top guys make you feel bad when you dont buy something from them, jeeze... but  they defiantly have the best staff. lol i went their in the beginning of december wearing i tackle warehouse hoodie, caught myself half way to the door went and put the old carhart on to blend in. lol ;D ;D

i guess i plan on going saturday. what time is everyone meeting up shoot me a pm or something id like to meet some fellow BR members.

Last time i went it was still called bass o rama...i stopped going bc it seemed as over the years it wasnt as big of an event as it has been years ago and alot of vendors stopped going. So i decided to try it again this year to see if it has gotten any better/bigger. But if you never been its worth it i think!

now steve thats what i call " big baller status", let me know where your gonna be at so i can follow you around some maybe you can buy me a reel or 2! Ill be lucky to get a crank bait  :'( ;) dont spend it all at one place!! Or you could get the side imaging humminbird depth finder for 999.00!

fishing user avatarSam reply :

Yes, Patrick worked at the Dick's store off Midlo behind Chesterfield Towne Center.

He is an excellent ambassador for BPS and extremely helpful.  :)

fishing user avatarA.Do? reply :

too funny. I actually already bought the humminbird with side imaging, its been sittin the box for about 4 months. Didnt wanna install it till spring when I can really use it. Cant wait to get it on.

Oh and Sam you are right Patrick isnt on the same level knowledge wise as green top staff but he is helpful and just a pleasure to deal with. Alot nicer to deal with then anyone at green top. When I first got serious bout bass fishing early this summer, he helped me pick out the right stuff tackle wise, jigs, frogs, worms, crankbaits, etc... I just like someone with a good attitude, he's also a christian and a gentleman and that means something. I dont buy much at BPS anymore unless its something like a life jacket, battery charger, hooks, fishing line, stuff like that but I always make sure I find him first, he stops what he's doing and comes along with me while I shop.

I'm lookin forward to havin a few custom baits made at the show this year and maybe finding someone who can split the handles on the 6 loomis rods I just bought.

I might go both days. I haven't decided yet. Rob wants to go on Friday to get the deals but some of the other guys are going on Saturday and I'd like to go along with them also.

You gonna carpool with Rob or drive yourself so you can leave when you need to?

I just organized all my tackle and I don't need another thing.  Would it still be worth coming down from the DC area for the speakers?  If I bring home even one more bag of soft plastics my wife will kill me, it took me all day Friday and 1/2 day Saturday to organize everything and put it in my new 6-drawer chest so that I can find what I am looking for!

depending on what day u wanna go , u could ride down with me. Im in woodbridge which means u would only have to drive 40 mins to my house and I drive the rest. I wanna go on saturday to hear the G man speak in the morning. He's one of my fave guys on the BASS tour.

Dan what kinda deals u think will be there friday ? I havent been before so I can only go on what I heard. Is there gonna be used stuff for sale ? Or do you mean deals on new stuff ?

fishing user avatarRockvilleMDAngler reply :

Looks like a good time!  Steve I will let you know if I can make it ASAP.  Do you know for sure that Swindle is speaking on Saturday?  They have no schedule up for the seminars on the website.

fishing user avatarBigs reply :

It says so in the new Woods n water magazine. And it makes sense he would speak on saturday since thats gonna be the busiest day and he's the biggest name there. I also wanna see John Crews, hes a guru on bass fishing in virginia. I'll see if I can confirm that he's speakin on saturday

fishing user avatarBigs reply :

just looked at woods n water, says he is gonna be there friday and saturday actually. John crews will be there saturday and sunday

I don't think any of the vendors sell used stuff. I've never been on Friday, but my friend likes to go on the first day so that he can see what the vendors have available and not have to worry that he missed any sale items they might have.
