Anyone ever fished here? Its right across for the Mid-lothian Mines Park, a Chesterfield County park...I fish here all the time. Always can catch nice catfish there (3-5lb) also caught a few good bass all from the bridge in the back of the pond.
If you havent been its a pretty nice place...Paved trail all the way around. You can park on the right side of the apartments and walk down to it. Its right down Wooldridge Road off Midlothian.
Nope, but there are lots of great apartment and office complex ponds all over the greater Richmond geographical area.
Keep fishing them and sending in those reports.
I go to this pond all the time. Usually small beetle-spins,grubs, topwaters or worms work well. most of my bass come from near the bank by the 1st dock(looking from Woolridge Rd) . don't think ive caught anything by the bridge. What lures do you use there?
For the catfish I use bread and a hook, let it sit for a min or 2 then the cork disappears!
For the bass, I use swimming shad. They are called "Mister Shad"

I have never fished that dock up there. Where are you casting to catch bass, and whats the best you have pulled out of there?
You can either cast from the straight bank to the dock area, or cast on the dock out towards the bank. Small grubs work great in that spot. Most of the good bass ive caught are about 14-16 inches. One time though, I caught a bigger one accidentally. i was fly-fishing from the dock and put my rod down. The line went through the cracks and a fish grabbed the fly. It was definitely larger than the other ones, but i had to cut the line because i couldn't get to it. it was probably the one big fish that doesn't get caught often.
very very nice pond scenery nice cover i went to dicks sporting good and bought my first bait caster today and i went there to get the hang of casting it i caught two 1 pounders about 12 inches in length both on whit spinner bait near 1st dock to the left i only casted about 10 times i was just dropping by to cast a couple times i had to get home b4 it got to late but lots of pond to fish i will be going back tomm or thursday ;D
I will be there tomorrow more than likely to wet a line at the dock and try my luck! I am getting into fishing more, kinda a newbie.
Anyways, have you seen any snakes here? I saw the biggest one I have ever seen in the wild last time I was there! I just let it be. Also, there are an abundance of turtles and bream. It would be easy to get a net full of them if anyone wanted baitfish.
pics obviously not showing off just want ppl to see whats out there pretty easy catches

I thought it would be appropriate to share some pictures with you all since I am above the 10 post count and can now post links!

hey pspbass, the pics you posted dont look like around the pond at the enclave apartments. Are you fishin the bigger red circled pond or the one across the street in the grove subdivision circled in blue?
I may try my luck at the pond later this afternoon.
Let me know if you will be around the area.
Wife and I are heading to Pops Marina in Toano this PM to see what they have left from their going out of business sale and to check out Fishing Pro Tech and Hooters.
Tomorrow (Thursday) I have late meetings with Cigna Insurance Company on a client's renewal and Friday we are going to dinner with my fishing buddy and his family so if I hit these ponds it will be either over the weekend or next week.
Just wanted you guys who fish it know as I will not be out there to meet you.
I went this morning, didnt catch anything, got one hit back by the bridge. I was only there about 30 mins.
I went exploring after that across the street (Wooldridge)to the Grove, there is a pond over there on the right that has a fountain in the middle and a a dock and a gazebo that overlook the pond. Looks like it can be fished all around it, and the only sign I saw was dont feed the geese.
Also, down Midlothian behind Fridays, Famous Daves (before you get to Tackle Express) there is a pond but it is overgrown as I found out, at least what I saw of it
Nice pics! I had no idea the cats could be that big! I'm actually going there tonight. The pond in the Grove has good #'s of crappie and bluegill, but i don't think it has many good bass.
you still going out tomm racer ? i should be there ;D
neither just realized that i posted completly wrong pics when i hit brows i selected randomly i guess haha whoops thos are from the highlands got a bunch from there but its private :-/
I may head out there in a while man
Hey pspbass...I think I might have missed u at enclave today, I went around 11am and stayed till 1, had a job interview at 4 I had to get ready for, which ended up bein a waste of my time. Got a few hits but couldn't catch anything.
We should exchange #'s or something so we can better plan when we are gonna be fishin and meet up. If you want you can shoot me a message with yours.

I hate letting that grove pond out of the bag. Not the one your fishing the one in the grove holds some nice fish! heres a little taste of what can be had in there. And we have caught much bigger than this :-?

lets all get together one day this weekend and see who catches the biggest fish between these two ponds haha !
The grove pond was applying no fishing signs today at the gazebo and i got a dirty look from the woman, so i left without fishing.
Do you mean no fishing for the gazebo area or the whole pond?
hopefully just gazebo

I had fun at the private pond this morning, it didn't produce like usual but caught 2 good, around 4lb bass, 5 other 1-2 pounders, about 6 nice crappie, and 2 bluegill. The owner didn't know how the bluegill got in his pond, haha. Here are 2 pictures of the biggest bass, its all i took.
Did you weigh those fish? they are nice ones no doubt about it, but i dont know if they are 4 pounds maybe just a bad picture either way nice catch!

Hah yea I don't have a scale or anything, I am just a beginner. I might be interested in that Quantum reel that you mentioned in another post you wanted to sell as well. Gotta get me a new tacklebox as well, my one tray box just isn't cutting it anymore.
do any of you guys ever fish in the west end are or just in midlothian
Quotedo any of you guys ever fish in the west end are or just in midlothian
I'm interested in fishing the west end area after joining this forum!
yeah im looking to go bassing in the west in shortly learning local spots 1st the grove did have the no fishing / feeding gees signs up today :'(
> That doesn't make any sense, cause they actually stock that pond.
grayAG,
There are lots of places to fish in the West End of Richmond.
Get the free 2010 Fishing in Virginia booklet from DG&IF at Walmart and look in the back section for a list of the places to fish.
I took a weekday off from work about three years ago and fished all of the places in your area listed in the book. I was surprised at the locations and how nice some of them are. I had no idea they were there.
There are some nice ponds around apartment complexes both above and below the I-295, too. Check out the Twin Hickory ponds.
There is also a pond off Staples Mill Road right after you go under I-64 heading north. The apartment complex is on your left. I don't think it is fished very much, if at all, and I have always wondered about trying my luck on this body of water.
Try your luck at Innsbrook, too. Hit the pond by the office buildings off Cox Road and then go back to Lake Rooty. I do not care for Rooty but some of the guys have done well there.
Be sure to have a valid Virginia fishing license as some of the waters are patrolled.
And don't forget your needle nose pliers.
Get an ADC mapbook of Greater Richmond and you can see many lakes and ponds sprinkled throughout the area.
We have a number of guys who fish on your side of the river and maybe you can catch up with some of them and go to their favorite ponds and lakes to fish.
Take care.
I have fished that place plenty, never caught a thing out of there! I think there is a spring in the lake that feeds it, because it is always murky.
Sam- I was saying that the 'no fishing' signs don't make sense, not the West End fishing. I already have the VDGIF booklet and have hit some of the spots. I'll have to try some of the ones you mention. Where is Twin Hickory? Thanks.
Gray, that makes sense.
Twin Hickory is on the other side of I-295 and Innsbrook.
You go out Nuckols Road on the north side of I-295 and turn left onto Twin Hickory Road.
There are a few ponds on the property.
Nice lake in Wyndham, too. I want to fish it but have not had the chance to go back since I helped them with their insurance two years ago.
There are ponds on the two Country Club of Virginia golf courses off Daniels Road and I want to try them when the course is closed. You may want to try your luck with them as I hear they have some nice bass in them.
Take River Road to Gaskins Road and then onto James River Golf Course Road for the first one and bear right onto Daniels Road off Gaskins past the James River Golf Course Road and you will go right through the second course.
Have you tried Youngers Pond in Bryan Park?
And how about the pond in the cemetery where Route 288 crosses Route 6 (Patterson Avenue)? There is a pond in that cemetery that I would love to fish to see if anything worthwhile is in it. Place is Greenwood Memorial Gardens and it is supposed to have one big and one small pond.
Lots of places to fish north of the James. Get that ADC mapbook of Greater Richmond and look for all the ponds and lakes sprinkled throughout the area.
PM me on how you do.
I really want to try some of these West End ponds one day if it cools off enough to go. It sounds like many of them are better to fish off hours/on weekends due to business operations and their location. I am just worried about getting in trouble for fishing in some of these locations with trespassing and such. :
racer894 and pspbass- I stopped by Grove Pond last night and the signs out there only say "Do Not Feed The Geese". They don't have "No Fishing" on them.
Sam- Thanks for all the info. I can't really go out to those ponds now, but I will definitely try them sometime.
Heading out to Grove Pond tonight if anyone wants to stop by.
I may head out tonight, see how they are biting after this mini storm moves through...
Fished Enclave tonight and caught my first fish on a plastic bait . It was a baby brush hog, watermelon color, texas rigged, weightless. Aint really worth puttin a picture up but I guess I will. 8-)

@ reelcrazy: where were you in these last photos? Interested in finding new fishing locations to take my jon boat.
woodland pond off beach
Are you able to put in a small boat? If so, where at? I'm familiar with the area, I frequently fish swift creek lake.
Went to Enclave tonight with my dad. I caught 2 bass and lost 2. One was REALLY nice and waited till I pulled the bait out the water to strike. > My dad had one on and was fighting with it until it snapped his line, it was a VERY nice one.
How big is very nice? What were you using?
Bumping this thread, time sure does fly!
