How are we all gonna fit! ;D
I'll stay out of this thread, since I'm out, but it's obvious you and Dan are going to have to share a seat and sit on each others lap.
I'm drooling thinking of topwater bass in January, but I'm back at VT now. Have fun guys, post up some pics. Don't rub it in too hard though, I might start crying
QuoteI'll stay out of this thread, since I'm out, but it's obvious you and Dan are going to have to share a seat and sit on each others lap.
You're quite the dreamer aren't you?
gonna end up catching each other and a treble hook to the lip with that many people
4 people is a big crowd for one bassboat. Im sure one of you at least can fit in somewhere else . I would hate to hear about someone catchin a hook in the eye

With my luck that would be me...I've gotten other peoples lures wayyyyy too close to my face for comfort on many occasions..
I agree but I don't want to leave anyone out. Dan and Thai are good guys and I want to make sure they can both take part.
Can we start making a boater/non boater list so we can see who all is coming and who still needs a seat.

Copy Paste and and add your name or boat if Steve verifies you're eligible for our trip, no reason why not but it polite to run it by him first.
Aaron you can just add this as the update in the original post
Steve do you mind if Matt brings his boat too? he fished the first nova tourney with us. He's a good guy.
I got no problem with any good folks bringin their boats or coming as co-anglers. Just as long as you run it by me so I know. I wont turn anyone away unless its someone that doesnt know how to behave.
I have to decide how we are gonna meet up and at what time. The lake house involves several back roads and turns so it wouldnt the a bad idea to caravan.
Maybe we could all meet up somewhere like the shopping center right of the route 234 exit in dumfries. Theres a shoppers food warehouse, target, panera, etc..Its easy to find and maybe a mile from the highway. We could do it early in the morning that way we can fish the morning bite. Altho the fish should be biting thruout the day.
Or we could just go the night before. I have 6 beds down there and a sectional sofa that could sleep 2 people easy. Its probably a 3500 square foot log cabin, plenty of room. Me and tammy would sleep in the master bedroom which would leave room for 7 people to sleep there. Knowing how obsessed with fishing Thai is, he would probably sleep on the deck of someones boat just to get that extra edge goin
It will take about an hour and 15 minutes to get there from that shopping center. Takes a lil less time when you arent towing a boat but lets be safe and go maybe 75mph tops. Its all 65mph speed limit most of the way down too. We would need to meet at like 6:30 am or so in order to have everyones boat in the water by 8 am. If we do it this way then naturally I will lead the way. The exit we take is the Thornburg exit.
any more boaters/ co anglers to add?
Aaron, do you think Matt and Ace would have enough room for me? I am hoping to be able to go on the trip.
as of right now next sunday is supposed to be 41 and sunny on lake anna
his boat is full. sorry man. thai may have an answer. text him.
I just texted you, thats a negatory on the boat..
we'll figure something out though, no Dan left behind!
we'll figure something out so no worries. I would hate for Dan , Marc and Cmatthews to all be left out. I would say even if Marc's trollin motor isnt ready he should come anyways and just use an anchor. I plan on using my anchor thruout the day no doubt. When I checked the weather I think it said mid 40's which would be great. Of course its way too soon to know what the weather will really be. Keepin my fingers crossed.
6 more days until our second NoVa tourney!!!
Are we going to keep the same rules as before?
6 fish limit
12 inch minimum
What time is everyone meeting?
Ready to show these amateurs how it's really done Aaron? ;D
I expect to have my motor fixed in time, the parts shipped on Friday from Motorguide so hopefully they arrive at the shop by the middle of this week and can be installed soon. If not I will anchor around unless there is a ton of wind.
Since I have never set foot on the warm side of Anna and I don't have a contour map of that side will anyone be willing to share some spots with me?
x2 never fished there before!
I really dont want fish in ppl's livewells for this one. Lets just take pics of the fish on the ruler, biggest fish wins, simple as that. Or if everyone has a scale on the boat we can do it that way. No need to stress these fish out . Anyone catches a decent striper I say we grill it that night. Somehow my ford expedition fixed itself today and is runnin fine. Im gonna drive it alot these next few days to make sure its all good. I should be good to go. Hopefully my shimano core will get here in time so I can test it out.
no one here has a contour map?
I'm hoping my fish finder has some sort of map for Anna.
I think that the GMCO map of Lake Anna has contours on it.
My GPS has the hot side but I have the WAAS system.
Just beat the shores, points, docks, bridges, boat houses and moored boats like everyone else does.
I only have one map so thats on u boaters to do. Get one for like 10 bux. Or just follow me to where Im headed as long as u can keep up
oh and I think my friend is bringin his triton so there will be one more boat
Hey folks,
Brand new to the the forum and this thread caught my eye. How often do you all fish Anna? I live in F-burg and am just getting back into fishing after several years. How many tournaments does your club fish? Dues? Members? Fill me in.
Most of us don't fish it at all. We don't have a formal club, we just get together and fish. Sometimes we do a tournament format but it isn't anything serious. So we have no dues, we have no official members, just buddies who fish together.
None of us are experts on lake anna and I have had this house in my family since 1992, so you would think I know something. This will be a learning experience for all parties involved. I have only fished it during the spring and summer, this will be my first time out on the water during the winter. I got some good tips from cc mcotter recently so I think we should def be able to put some bass and even striper in the boat. This is def not a club, more like a get together every once in while involving forum members who post on this section and love to fish seriously for bass. Theres so many clubs out there in northern va that I wouldnt even know where to start on choosing one to join.
You can send your club dues to me
haha no like the others have said before we're all just a buncha of guys who like good fishing, good drinks, and good company, if that sounds like you then welcome and you'll get your tryout for the NOVA crew soon enough if you decide to stick around
If it's of any use, here's a map I put together of the area near the power plant.

No dues, no stress, just fish?? How can that be? Actually, I'm just getting back into fishing. I used to fish a ton, lm bass, smallmouth, flyfishing, catfish, trout...but then got married, had kids, etc. etc. Low stress is the kinda "club" I'm looking for. Thai, my dues are in the mail! Are you all "big boat" guys?
most of us don't own boats. Some of us have smaller jon boats, and a few have "big boats"
So just to be clear, this is planned for Sunday the 31st?
Dan#, I don't understand.......... your avitar........... huh?? please 'splain it to us!!!
John, it's a cat. They are a common domesticated mammal that some Americans keep as companions.
lol, it's one of the new smilies, I just thought it was funny.
Ok. Wasn't sure, thought you might be losing your mind is all!!
Yea........ you have lost it!!!! That was really funny!!
Hey Moutaineer, welcome to the site.
Those "NOVA" guys are really no good. They are horrible fishermen, have horrible body odor, and their jokes aren't even funny....
Finally another "North Central" VA fella..
And wait, this is the 31st?? My bro is getting hitched on the 30th. If my hangover doesn't resemble the movie "The Hangover" I might be down. But, DO NOT hold a spot for me, if there's a spot, cool, if not I will bring my kayak for safe measures.
Look Josh, all you have to do is play it cool. He sounds like he might be a "friend". You remember what those are.............. right??!!

I'm not a "big boat" guy either. I have a Lowe 1648 with a temperamental 35hp Johnson...actually it's a duck hunting boat that normally "sits" most of every summer....but not any more.

Hey NewAngler,
I didn't notice you were from Stafford because I skipped over your post when I saw the redskins logo.
wow making enemies already...brave
play nice ladies. We all know the Ravens are the best team in town anyways ;D Im headed down to the lake in a few hours, coming back tommorow. I will see if I can find some good spots. I'll only be on the water for an hour or two today but tommorow I'm doing the morning bite. Hopefully I can find a place with ethanol free gas thats open. Lets plan on meeting up sunday morning around 7:30 somewhere off the thornburg exit. I think Im goin down the night before so I will drive 20 minutes or so to meet you guys. Does anyone know how to get to high point marina or maybe sturgeon creek ? If so we can meet there. And if anyone plans on eating after we fish then we need decide what we're gonna do. Burgers and bratwurst maybe ? Lets figure this out.

haha. all good buddy. You'll be on the bandwagon next year..
lets hope this snow storm misses us.
You're not gonna let something like snow stop you are ya? ;D
It looks like we will get some isolated flurries during the week and weekend will be sunny down in Anna but 28 degrees or so...lets hope the reactors are on and the steam coming off the water is enough to keep us warm
i heard two to four inches this morning. makes getting the boat out a little tough yet doable.
two inches shouldnt be that bad, I'll help you with that too
oh i know!!!
If we have serious snow accumulation (6 inches or more) I might have to bail only because I don't feel comfortable driving that far towing a boat in snow. Plus once you get off of I95 those roads towards Anna are pretty narrow and I would be surprised if they are all plowed and salted at 6:00AM. If the roads are fine I am there! I wouldn't be surprised if the whole storm misses us.
Quotewow making enemies already...brave
My wife and I just got back from Vegas and we saw a comedy show out there called Defending the Caveman.
The comedian says of men, "if we're not ragging on you THEN you know we don't like you".
Pretty funny show if you get the chance.

Are you all fishing the warm side? Neither Sturgeon nor High Point are on that side of the lake. I duck hunt out of both and you'll need wings to get to the warm side of the lake from there. Sturgeon will put you in closer to the reactors but High Point is a better launch in my opinion, especially if there are several of you.
Well I just got another dogsitting gig this weekend so I can't go anyway. So I won't be left out. Good luck guys, I hope the weather works out. Make sure there is at least one camera on each boat. I want to see pics of fish!

I need that money yo!
haha
Week-end weather not looking very yummy. I'm still down if we have a good Sunday. Hopefully it shoots to the south and we get little or nothing.
My trolling motor will be ready by tomorrow so my boat is good to go for Sunday. Let's just hope that the weather cooperates!
I'll get the sacrificial goat ready, we'll bleed it at midnight, that should appease the fishing gods..

I know where the warm side is considering we have had this house since the early 90's thanks for the tip tho. I was simply sayin I would drive 20 minutes to the marina to meet ppl and have them follow me.
On a sidenote we fished 3 hours today. Only d y k e one had warm water, everywhere else on the lake was 45-50 degrees. I did manage one about 14 inches long on D Y K E one about 15 minutes after we got there. The fish just didnt turn on today. Its hit or miss out there.
Steve, I think the site censored out whatever you wrote and put I'm a dork instead. haha. I was trying to figure out what you were talking about and then it clicked
further south of richmond are supposed to get the heavier end of the snow and only 6 inches in richmond but im hoping it just misses us all together
QuoteSteve, I think the site censored out whatever you wrote and put I'm a dork instead. haha. I was trying to figure out what you were talking about and then it clicked
I just saw that so I tried to fix it by using spaces, thats pretty silly that the site censors the word d y k e. I mean cmon. Im not talkin bout girls who like girls here. sheeesh
Oh and I forgot to say, if there is snow on the ground anywhere around the lake then you guys are gonna have a problem towing boats on the backroads with snow. Not gonna happen. If thats the case we will post pone it till the weekend after the superbowl I guess.
LOL at it censoring D Y K E!?

my mistake Steve, I thought from the question about the marinas, you all saying you were from up north and others saying this was their first Anna trip etc. that you all weren't familiar with Anna's set up.
The point about the house also clears up for me how you all were getting access to the warm side. That's a primo piece of property to own.
Dont you be trying to back out now Scuba Steve, I've had a boner on for this trip for the last week! lets hope the snow either passes us or is light
QuoteDont you be trying to back out now Scuba Steve, I've had a boner on for this trip for the last week! lets hope the snow either passes us or is light
we are fishing no matter what!!!
I am psyched for this but I agree with Steve that the roads will be really tough if there is a lot of snow in that area. Those roads are not as well travelled as the ones further North and would not get as much snow treatment.
If we dont make the Anna trip we will make a mini 4mr tourney?
QuoteDont you be trying to back out now Scuba Steve, I've had a boner on for this trip for the last week! lets hope the snow either passes us or is light
So it blocks out dy ke but not boner?
Dy ke is insensitive to women of a certain lifestyle, boners is just tasteless ;D
For those of you who havent been to the lake before, the roads that lead to it are narrow and winding with ditches along side in some places. For me its no biggie cuz my boat is already there but you cannot control traction with a trailer. So we're gonna play it safe if theres an accumulation of snow. Let's hope for the best.
So will the decision to go or stay be made tomorrow evening?
Worst comes to worst.....who has a plow prop for their truck?!?!?
last i heard was less than 1 inch!
Yeah l heard we were only going to get a light dusting, with Richmond getter the latter of the storm.
Here's to fishing Anna on sunday boys
QuoteSo will the decision to go or stay be made tomorrow evening?
As of now we are on for sunday. If my zip code down there gets alot of snow 23117 or the surrounding zip codes then we will have to assess the situation. Im gonna be checkin weather.com thruout the day tonite and tommorow. One inch of snow or even two shouldnt affect anything for the roads. 4 or 5 inches however is a different story. So lets wait and see what happens. I just got my reels back from the reel guy and I have some new combos I wanna try out so Im excited. Oh and Thai TW is gonna ship the instock stuff now and the rest when it comes in woohoo
yea my zipcode is supposed to get 6-12 inches and an hour south of me is supposed to get 16 hopefully i can manage to make it to the highway sunday cause i only live like 3 minutes from the highway
saweeeeet I'm looking forward to getting those spoons
I guess we are still going then! I am looking forward to it!
not lookin so good right now guys. I already have 3 inches of snow on the ground here and the areas around lake anna are gonna be gettin 8-12 inches by tonite. I dont think anyone is gonna be fishing anywhere. Hope u guys have bread and milk
So you guys are going to let a little snow and the temperatures in the 20s stop you from fishing the Hot Side of Anna?
So what if there is about 6-inches and more on the roads and the roads are slippery. And don't worry about the high winds which will make the water choppy and the wind chill into the teens or single digits.
We are fishermen. We are men. We can take it.
We also are not out of our minds so maybe you guys can go next week.
I went out this AM in Richmond and the roads are extremely hazardous with the heavy stuff coming in later today.
Looks like next weekend, guys.
Be safe and stay warm.
Nova 4mr tourney? Let's do it! The bite there is really good right now
Steve,
Anyway when you reschedule we can look to do it on a Saturday?
QuoteNova 4mr tourney? Let's do it! The bite there is really good right now
You really went from hating that place to hitting it every chance you get and taking everyone with you...
QuoteSteve,Anyway when you reschedule we can look to do it on a Saturday?
sure I don't see why not. Just gotta make sure its a saturday that my girl isnt working. She doesnt wanna be left out and she loves to fish as much as we do.

Thats because I'm catching bass now....and are you really worried about that place being overfished or something? Have you been out there on a weekend?... It's worst than the NOVA DMV's : If that place were to be overfished it would have done so years ago....
I don't have any worries about it being overfished, the Potomac's a big river, and 4mr has some unique qualities that keep god numbers fish there year 'round. It cetainly has never been a secret, even on flyfishing boards. I was just commenting on your 180 on it, and subsequent group trips.

What I want to know is why you've never been out there with us
I get very limited time to fish between a wife, baby on the way, job, and new house, so our times there have never coincided (broke out the thesaurus). If ya'll go tomorrow I may make a cameo, depending on when you go.

Congrats on the baby on the way Greg? PM your number I dont think I have it, I'll let you know what I do tmr
Can we do next Saturday?
not sure yet bout next saturday. My girl is a groomer at Dogtopia and she had 5 dogs today all of which had to be canceled so first I gotta see if she has to do them next saturday instead. Thats why sundays are better cuz she doesnt work sundays. I'll post up as soon as I know .
Oh and as far as 4mr goes, is it really that good there now ? I havent caught more then 3 bass in a day there since I started goin. I kinda wanna go to magic unicorn island instead.
Low tide tomorrow is at about 3:30 pm. I would be down to fish either in the pm.
I'm not fishing magic unicorn island for atleast a week or two just to give it a break. I will fish 4mr,and yes Steve it is that good, it just recently turned on and more and more boaters are fishing it I've noticed. Lots of bass to be had.

how are the roads down that way ? I might wanna go to 4mr tommorow. No more lucky craft pointers down there tho, infact Im only throwing cheap stuff down there unless the water is clear

My streets plowed so I'm sure the streets are too, plus rt one is well traversed it should be fine. You gotta know the depth you're throwing to down there and the depth you lure will go when fished certain ways, never got any JB's snagged. If you wont fish the pointers, I will for you!
oh I was just thinkin, next saturday is the flea market and I already paid for a table. I wanna sell some rods and stuff there. So I cant go next saturday.
