Hey everyone. I'm new to the forums and figured I would post and see who is around the area. I live in Virginia about 20 minutes from Lake Anna, fairly new to the fishing world only been actively fishing about a year and I enjoy it a lot when I'm not firefighting. Working on getting some type of boat that I can learn in, shore fishing goes only so far where I live. If anyone lives in the area and would ever want to fish with a fairly new angler then by all means let me know! Looking forward to meeting some of you and maybe even getting up to one of these event's BR holds!

I've been trying to look around for some clubs that will take non-boaters, doesn't seem to be too many in my immediate area.
Prince George, VA here. There are several clubs in the Richmond area that you may want to look at. Just head over to the bass club forum and search "VA"... You'll get some good results there.
formerly of Purcellville, VA, now WV. but i work in VA and i do a lot of fishing at Smith Mountain Lake in VA...
Culpeper. VA here. Still trying to figure out Lake Anna with my son.
woodbridge Virginia here
Louisa Va. Here. I was looking for a club that would take a non boater also, so I could get the experience. I checked from Richmond to northern va, to shanandoah valley. Everybody I talked to didn't have anything available. But that was a month ago, things may have changed. If anybody has a seat on a boat, and would offer it, I would help with gas, and net your fish. Probably won't have to net anything I catch! Hahahaha. I don't mind driving where ever. Just cant on Sundays untill after 12:30.
Let's fish, cold weather go away!

AreWeFishingYet- What part of Ladysmith? With you mentioning ponds and lakes in the neighborhood I'm guessing Lake Land Or or Lake Caroline?
I use to live in Bowling Green which is in Caroline county if never been. My mother still lives out there. Now I am in Stafford behind the Geico on 17. I use to fish and recommend you going and getting your AP Hill permit. If still the same price it was $20 but you'll need your Va fishing license and be able to pass a background check. Allot of the fishing ponds and lakes but only a few are you can fish from shore without much limitations like Beaverdam pond and Fish Hook lake. I wasn't a fan of Fish hook I think it's more for pan fish if anything. There were some ponds that I was looking to hit but you need more like a small jon boat that you can carry by hand or kayak. Some of the ponds and lakes in there do have an boat ramp. If ever try in there with boat I recommend Travis lake upper I think. It's the one with the ramp. Bowies pond, Smoots, and White lake. I wish I tried Laser range pond. Beverdam has a ramp as well but when I fished it you didn't need a boat. You can walk the whole pond no problem besides the tall grass. Bowie, Smoot's lower, and Whites lake you can get fish and launch a boat outside of AP Hill. You will still need your permit and Smoot's, White's lake requires you to call to see if open due to sometime training in those areas. Also Caroline Pines in CC has excellent ponds and lakes. I use to fish them all the time till they fenced the main lake in. I'm not even sure if can even put a boat in there now. This year I'm looking forward to trying to Curtis lake and possibly Mott's run.
I would definitely keep an eye out on Craiglist for a boat or jon boat. Especially jon boat. Never buy new. I did and my goodness I could of saved a fortune if didn't.

Sorry for the late response, the job has changed and my boat finding days are officially on hold. I am still fishing the lakes and ponds here which are producing pretty well. Land Or is where I'm at, I haven't gotten to anywhere else because I don't have a boat and don't know the area well enough to go somewhere confidently. I appreciate the inside on AP Hill, I didn't know they had all of that water. I used to work on 17, in front of Geico, got to love the traffic in the summer there!
Looks like it's going to be another great weekend for fishing.
Sam in Va. here...I live in Fluvanna County and fish Sandy River and Briery frequently.
I also enjoy Lake Orange and Ruritan Lake.
I have a 17.75 Rhino Jet boat with no jet, but a 9.9 and trolling motors.
Looking forward to 60* weather on Saturday!
Just moved down to Portsmouth from Alexandria. I'm over in the Churchland area. I can't wait until it warms up a bit. I mostly fish from shore but I've got an intex mariner 4 with a trolling motor that gets me around a lake fairly well. I'm on the lookout for something like a grizzly 1648 so I can upgrade. I left my fishing buddy back in Alexandria so if anyone is recruiting let me know.
Covington va. here, i fish moomaw lake. have a place at smith mountain lake, and my son is down at lake anna, and i'm down there all the time fishing with him. I have 2 rangers, a 1981 335v that was fished in the bassmaster classic back then and I have a 2013 z521c.

Weather is looking to be nice, if anyone is going out soon and looking to fill a seat let me know. I live in ladysmith (20 mins south of Fredericksburg) and don't mind making a drive.
I am looking for people in the Waynesboro area to do some fishing with. I really don't know that many people in the area, I spend most of my time in Lynchburg on the weekends with family. But, usually one weekend I stay in Waynesboro and just chill out. I don't have a boat. I am a beginner to be honest. I use to do a lot of Fly Fishing but most of my friends quit years ago and so I did to. Never really did a lot of bass fishing but a little. I have been saying for years I was going to start fishing again and this year my girls parents put a camper at Smith Mt Lake and bought a Pontoon boat. So with that I decided this year dang gummit I am going to take advantage and start fishing again. So I brought out the old tackle, bought a few new rods and here we go. So if you want someone to tag a long send me a PM.

Hi. I was just down at Lake Sherando a few weeks ago. What's the fishing like there? Been? Thanks.
Manassas area. My boat is too small except for my kids (maybe just one at a time -- nuts).
Anyway, get into the streams. Rapidan, Hazel, Rappahannock, etc. that way.
Use a canoe. Canoe = partner. Kayak = self.

Hey what is going on everybody!! I am new to the forum here. I haven't fished Virginia at all as I moved here from Texas not to long ago. I am looking for a fishing partner to show me around to some great spots. I do NOT have a boat....yet. I really appreciate any tip, advice etc...
Chris
Welcome, Chris. What part of the state are you in?
I am in the Richmond area (technically Glen Allen)
Williamsburg VA here
Stafford or Norfolk depending on the part of the year. Mainly fish the Rapp and Motts in Spotsy. For Norfolk its all over the place, have not nailed down a good place to go yet.
i live in glen allen and do alot of kayak fishing all over virginia
Va Beach checking in. Moved back here after spending 7 years out west. Glad to be back to fishing in VA. Mostly fish the lakes by my house(Smith, WhiteHurst, Little Creek Res). Good to see a healthy population of fisherman still kicking about in VA.
Im in Yorktown for the week, google maps show a lot of small bodies of water. Ive tried two walking distance from the house…not sure if they hold bass or not. I see signs of them being fished due to the litter in the grass and crap hung up in the trees. Im fishing from the shore for now until I get my kayak down here. So with that being said, anyone with any info on some places I can fish from shore? Oh I rented a boat at hard mill, beside catch all types of grass in the trolling motor. I was skunked, I saw a guy catch a 2 1/2-3 pounder from the dock. Im tempted to just go back and do that lol. Anything helps! Thanks
BM,
Try using senkos and sexy shad type cranks. I will PM later today, I used to live in Newport News so, I am familar with the waters you are talking about.
Throw a Jig into trees and docks, heavy stuff. Big texas rigged worms, carolina rigs, craws, anything thats slower in presentation on rocks and drop offs.
Been a few years, but I used to rent at Lee Hall (little luck) and Wallers (lotsa luck.) By any chance do you have access to the military bases? That really opens up some options in the area.
Choproz
My friend is CG. Someone told him it was a pond behind some chapel on one of the bases around there.
I am not certain what access CG has to the Army and Navy bases, but Ft Eustis and Cheatham both have boats for rent on bass ponds. Cheatham also has a pier on the York river -- its closed if they've got operations ongoing, but open most of the time. I always see folks fishing along the Colonial parkway pull-outs. No idea what, if anything, they're catching, but I'd drop in and talk with them. Seems to me there's a community fishing pier down by Yorktown Beach, but I've never been on it. There is no shortage of fishing in your area, that's for sure.
Ill be in Williamsburg this summer for about a week, are there any places close by to try out?
I recently moved to Chesapeake. Anyone have any recommendations on where I can go bass fishing or good fishing in general? Thanks!
Budda, you have a jon boat?
Welcome to the forums as well!
I live in Chespaeake and I'm in Suffolk about 5 days a week fishing. Mostly I'm at Lone Star Lakes, as I know all the lakes there very very well. I'm more of a Quantity then Quality guy, though I did get another 23" bass this week for my 10th Bass Citation and Expert Angler Status Anyone wanna get out in Lone Star Let me know, I'd love to get a few guys together and have a small tournament one day.

There are a lot of streams and creeks, the Potomac river and a few other rivers around there to fish. Google Earth or Maps is a good tool to use to find places to fish.
Welcome, CB. I'm also in Woodbridge. Keep an eye on the Occoquan thread:
http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/133334-anyone-hit-the-occoquan-reservoir-lately/
Between Occoquan, Potomac and lots of smaller bodies of water, this is a pretty decent bass fishing area. Much depends on whether you have a boat, how far you want to travel, etc.

Thanks. I don't have a boat, maybe someday lol. I was looking for something close, but if it's worth it travel would be ok. I used to live by Fort Belvoir and would go on post frequently.
Cool. I work on Belvoir. Between the piers and the banks, there's pretty good bass fishing right here. I don't have a boat either, but I rent from both Lake Ridge and Fountainhead. Trolling motors limit you somewhat, but there's still a lot of water to cover from those two parks and it can take years to learn. Burke also rents boats, but I never had much luck there.
Pohick rents boats, but the hours are screwy and launching/recovering can be a challenge if the tide is out.
For shore/bank fishing, there's the entire Potomac, many lakes and ponds and some of the Occoquan rez and river. If in the market to rent a boat a little farther out, I've also rented at Orange, Brittle and Anna and many, many times at Hunting Run. I'd be glad to pass on my experiences.

Woodbridge here. I split my time mostly between jon boats (rented out of Lake Ridge and Fountainhead); and kayaking from (Bull Run, Belvoir, Pohick, Occoquan) with occasional road trips to Front Royal, Hampton Roads, etc. Next time I am headed to Fountainhead or Lake Ridge and I know in advance that my wife won't be along, I'll send a PM.
