GO!
I am in. Again.
This weather has been rough first it's way too hot and the fish aren't biting and now it's been raining and storming.
July was gonna be tough already, what a great way to start it off here in Jax
Lets do this!!
its been tough in south fla also AK
in for this month guys
OK, I'll give you guys a tip for this hot weather... drop it deep and work it slow :-) I pulled a bass that was pushing 10 pounds on a slow bottom hopping lizard :-) I switched up my technique last time I fished few days ago and it resulted in a lot of 5+lbs fish. So, fstr385, it's on! Ohhhh it's on baby!!! BTW, fstr385, when we gonna drop your little boat in the canal near my house? It will be a guaranteed 1st and 2nd place for us LOL :-D And what about that Lake O trip with my brother we've been planning???
Oh its on!! I will start. Caught this a little while ago. One is 18.75, and the other one is 17. Puts me at 35.75.
Sorry about the bottom pic, I did not rotate it right. Mvorbordt, fish slow, and deep. Got it. Tx. Just because you have a little boat, doesn't mean July is in the bag. LOL.
Nice fish Lou, that bottom one is a fatty!
Gonna give a go tomorrow hopefully.
Thanks, MCS. I am glad you are able to sneek out for a bit. How is that baby girl doing? Yeah, the last fish was a nice fatty. I was working a wolf pack and there were 6 of them I was working. I was able to land the smaller two. Go figure!!

Are you trying to say that arrogance comes before the fall? LOL!
I don't have a boat, fstr385 does, and I'm hoping to solicit his help this month... and LgMouthGambler's too :-)
Fstr385 and LgMouthG are nice guys to take you out. Best of luck this month, Mvorbrodt.

Thanks! With my brother coming to visit, and the next 3 weekends I've got no plans for, I think I'll be able to put a fight this time around, I hope :-)

My boat is in the shop for maint. and prop shaft change.
Little boat is ready.
Lou.... That bottom bass is a fat mofo! Nice!! You goin to pull an AK and beat us all on the first week? lol
I wish FSTR385. Just got lucky. After those two, they shut down. It's going to be a fun month. You guys know what your doing, and since everyone is stepping up their game I think its going to be a close one.

She is doing very well thanks. they seem to get easier each time, thankfully. LOL
The smaller two, they weren't bad, but doesn't that always happen. Now I got some catching up to do.

That last one is obese, did you weigh it?
went out tonight at 7 to about 9 pulled in 5 ..this was my biggest one 15"
Looking good Czar
Went out this morning from 6:40 to 7:40 missed a couple little ones on a live target mouse.
The hydrilla at this one pond just BLEW UP! killing me and my texas rigs.(It is funny to see the ponds around here, no carp, some carp and too many carp and they all fish different) Have to try some other spots with carp.
Friday might be my next chance.

Thanks MCS,so the more crap in a pond or lake make for better bass fishing? ???
Well some carp in a pond I find is the best, if there is enough to keep the weeds from taking over, but still offers some cover. It just depends how the pond was stocked. On 7/3/2013 at 10:52 PM, bass Czar said:Thanks MCS,so the more crap in a pond or lake make for better bass fishing? ???
The pond I was at today has some freaking tree sized weeds and the fish are deep and the Texas rigged just gets hung up. Once it cools the will die down a little.
The ponds with too many carp don't have enough cover and the bass tend to wonder. Which you can work all kinds of lures but pin pointing location is a daily thing.
This is just my observations from fishing around here. Each type of pond you use different lures and stuff so keeps me on my toes and I don't get stuck on one technique. You know what I am saying.
AK-NJ, no I did not weigh the fish. I am getting so caught up on the length of the fish, that weight is an after thought. Unless its a PB, which in my case is 7.25lbr then I will take the scale out.
i think we should do both weigh and length

Yea I am same way now since this competition unless it looks to be 4lbs i will weigh it, ask MCS last year I was weighing everything if it looked over 2lbs i wanted to see its exact weight lol. I was just curious to see because that one looks way fatter than any of the ones I caught in that size range, it must have been eating real good that's a nice looking fish
Thanks, I was telling MCS, that that fish was in a wolf pack that kept passing thru every few minutes from where I was fishing. There were six of them that looked to be in the 3-5+ lb range. The cool thing about wolf packs if you convince one to bite the others will join in.
Alright, i'm ready and it's on!
Just dropped $70 at bass pro on jigs and rage tail craws, will hit my honey hole this weekend, twice, going deep and slow :-)

Yea that looks like a 7.5" maybe even 8!!! Lol
Me and your son are HAWG certified
I caught an 19", 18", and 16" but nothing compared to the fight that the little 7 inch put up! Felt like there was a weed stuck to my line and then the Hawg emerged hooked in the lower lip.
Got an early start today finally. Started with a albino swim'n Fluke with a keel weighted hook. 2 or 3rd cast I had one on, jumped it was nice, jumped again it was gone Missed another on a baby bass fluke but didn't get to see it and then finally rigged a rattlesnake with a 1/16 bullet. Pulled in this guy. I will call him 17.5" I stepped on the tape to take the pic so it is starting in between 1 and 2" mark. The one I lost was bigger, by a pound or two, consider yourselfs lucky guys.
Man this is a cool thread, now that I have seen it may try to get some posted. Need a tape measure though!
My top 5 so far is 90 (20, 19, 18, 17, 16)... I have to replace that 7"
I was trying to get this atleast 7lb to bite everything but it wouldn't bite. I tried senko, jig, trick worm, rodent, lizard, and even a crank nothing. It was in the same area for a while and then after about 30 mins I couldn't see it anywhere. It was frustrating to see it look at my bait and chase it but not take it

But seriously you got 5 fish already? Any pics?
Guess I coulda had 3 this morning
Man AK-NJ you don't mess around. I like that. I am with MCS, pics?? I am going to my area today, weather keeps threatening though. MCS, good seeing you up on the board. Too bad you missed that big one.
Gotta DQ myself, don't carry a tape, but I measured these 2 on my 20" rod mark......20 and 22, didn't guestimate the others.
I was actually fishing for peacocks in a feeder canal that feeds into the main by my house. Water was high and the recent rain moved out the top slop, no peacocks but these. Don't report me, lol, but I walked them over to one of my ponds about 30' away.

17"
20"
19"
16"
18"
I have been having luck in the AM around 8:30. I've been getting the bigger ones on 6" senkos and swim jigs.
That 18" was one of my favorite catches of all time! I saw that one following a smaller one so I threw my senko out missed the area they were at. So I cast again and then I'm reeling and I feel my line go I set the hook and am reeling it in. Then the hook comes loose and my senko fly up out the water and somehow landed right by where the 1st fish got off and then I see the 2nd one slam it the second the senko hit the water and take off. It fought like a beast.
Wow!! 5 days in and you set the bar at 90inches already AK-NJ. YOU THE MAN!!
So I went out today for 2.5 hours with a jig and some trailers (never fished a setup like that) and all I got was 1 7" bass :-(
I don't think I was doing anything wrong. I let it sink, twitched it, hopped it, and swam it too. Nothing except that one fish when I was about to head back home. Lame...
So do I need a pic if the fish was 7 inches? You guys believe me it was that long right? ok good, so I'm at 7 inches now...

What kind of jig u using?
I usually use a swim jig with a rodent trailer and cast it out as far a I can past the point I want to focus on. Let it sit and bounce it like a football jig then retrieve it fast and repeat. I hav a lot of success doing it like that. And if you see structure u want to bounce about couple feet before it and then let it sit and speed retrieve and the kill it. Happened to me 4 times today.
I went back out before dark and I pulled in 3 more nice ones two 19" and one 18"
My top 5 is 20, 19, 19, 19, 18, 95 total
I will post the new 3 tomorrow after I get back from the golf course with Bass Czar.
Ill goto Publix tomorrow and measure a bag of chinese tilapia fillets to get on the board
AK-NJ, you have one heck of a honey hole to produce the fish your catching. Would you say those fish are averaging 4lbs each or more? I went out yesterday to my spot thinking I had them dialed in, and nothing. My hats off to you with the numbers you are putting up.

Yea most of them were in that range nothing over 5lbs tho. I went out to the golf course today with Bass Czar, I got there way later than I expected slept in. I didn't catch anything he pulled in a few nothing too big. Yesterday the fish were dialed in this morning, for me atleast, not at all.
I had most of my fish caught during the evening so I am going to go back tonight.
But I am telling you if any of you guys have any golf courses you need to fish them! If its a private course you will need permission if its public than its fair game.

A public golf course means it's open to the public to play golf for a fee without having to be a member of a club. Public golf courses are either owned by an individual, a corporation, or municipality, public doesn't mean it's open for fishing at any time. You shouldn't be fishing while golfers are playing, you may be in their way and they have paid for time on the course. Sneaking, and that's what you're doing, before or after the day's golf is over is fine, as long as no one asks you to leave.

Question for you snook...
If I were to pay my money at a public course and chose to fish not play golf then what fair game I believe? (Lol but I would never pay price for playing golf just to fish)
Yea I always ask permission before I fish and I make it a priority to stay out of the way of the golfers. Most of the time if I see any they talk to me ask if I caught anything and wish me luck. They understand that I am just enjoying my hobby like they are, said hobby not sport because golfing and fishing are not sports.
I only made mention because you said a public course is fair game......it isn't. Only if it's ok with maintenance staff, most of them don't have the real authority, they are hoping no problems are incurred. I've fished on courses myself next to my home.

I guess it's true what they say that arrogance comes before the fall... i was like "oh yea i'm gonna show those guys, i got the jigs to pull the large ones, oh yea", well turns out I don't know what the heck i'm doing :-(
Mvorbrodt, a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while.(Just messing and kidding with you) Since those pics several days ago, I have been skunked too. You have to be like AK-NJ and find a little pond at a golf course where they are all stacked up.

Yup golf course fishing. But the pond is anything but little it's massive. And all of the different ponds around the course and housing development are connected. The ponds are atleast 12 years old, I'm not sure which cAme first the golf club or the development. If it was the development then they are way older than that.
SnookAlot , was that a red and white yozuri ?
wassup guys, here are the 2 I caught today while I was with AK-NJ 17 & 15..now for the sad part ,I went back out with a buddy later that day I had to ride with him to get on the golf club,i think you can guess the rest by looking at the pics lol...... my 3 best fish so far are 15,15,17, having problems loading the other 2 pics
here are the other 2 pics

Nope............that's my secret weapon and you can't have it, lol. You can't have it because it's one of those discontinued Chinese lures that's near impossible to find, the one in the photo was used for both fish, the pattern is clown. This $2.99 lure has accounted for more open water bass than all my other lures combined. I lost 1 last week and broke 2 this week, I'm heartbroken, lol, have only 8 left. These are my go to peacock lures.
On 7/7/2013 at 6:57 AM, mvorbrodt said:LOL, what brand/model jig and trailer is that? I got some Booyah and KVD, and to be honest am not super impressed with quality...
Its a strike king hack attack jig 3/8th oz with a berkley pitboss trailer. That hook wont bend and it seems to get through vegetation and algae pretty unscathed. I believe walmart sells them but I got it from Dicks Sporting Goods a while back.
I have some northstar jigs but havent used them enough to know whats up
I had great luck with all terrain tackle football jigs from Gander Mountain. I caught 9 bass on them in one day in rocks which is my record jig fishing. I was using the football jigs
Its been rough!! My biggest is 18.5". Im 85.5" in 5. Not even goin to bother posting them all since they are behind. I hooked into a nice 5-6lb one Friday morning, but lost it under my boat and into the weeds and I couldn't swing around to the other side because one of my d**n poles hooked the weeds on the shore and it shook off. Havent had a chance to hit any of my better spots like I was planning either. Seems like fishing is over by 9am and I have to be to work everyday at 7-730. Stupid work always getting in the way of fishing!
It's been tough indeed! All I got today that's worth sharing are two 13" bass, so I guess my total is 26" so far :-)
one more on the list, got this one after work toady was out for about an hour..16"

Thanks. Yea it wasn't that long, but it was a slob, so I weighed it. 6.8lbs. I think the last fish I caught that length was around if even 5lbs... that is if my scale is worth a crap. Always seems the few days around new moons produce much better than full moons.

Thanks Lou. I got it on a spro little john spooky shad 3-5` dive. Got some nice panfish and mayan chics with it too. Also had some good strikes on a good ole pumkin pepper senko.
My first. 23.5" out of Butler. Caught on a t-rig worm.
That's a nice looking fish!
Welcome to the competition, and welcome to the site I see you are new here
TeamShrink, nice fish. A little bit more info about you will be nice. What part of FL, are you from. What were you using to catch such a pretty fish, what time of day?
Yeah man, I agree with Lou, we are here to share and collaborate. The only thing I can understand holding back is the location of the actual spot but region, lure and time of day should be posted with your catch.
Went out last night around 6:30 til dark got skunked. I was using a spro frog and a swim jig. Went back out to same spot this morning hooked into 2, 15" and 17".
I'm going to try to figure out the fish in my backyard and give the golf course a break. I can't seem to locate the big ones like I was doing this time last year, MCS and couple of the older members remember last years thread
http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/102869-my-jacksonville-backyard-pond-big-ones/
I caught a 2lb out of there few months ago and every since that nothing of any size. Last year I would see them swimming around and chase my lure to the shore this year only small ones. But I did see 3 nice ones yesterday when I was out back so that gives me some confidence. But man if that bite turns on and the fish are 1 year bigger it will be over as far as these competitions lol. Everyone has to gear up go to their spot when all I will have to do is go out back in my flip flops lol.
AK-NJ, don't get so cocky or I will not take you fishing when you come down S.FL........... just messing with you. You caught some nice ones last year out of your backyard.
Lol yea I am definitely taking that trip to south fl and goin out on the boat. I bet I will go all the way down there and end up not catching anything but u will pull em in left and right lol. Happens when I go out with Bass Czar hah but as long as I see people pulling in fish I enjoy myself even if I catch nothing.
I want to do some peacock fishing down there I have never seen or caught one before
I don't know when you are making your way down here, but if you make down here in the Spring I will get you into fish. Summer.... well you have been seeing the reports lately. LOL
Yea I would wait til spring to make the trip around spawn its way too inconsistent to make the trip in the summer
Hey guys!!, went out today for about 2hrs in the evening pulled in 4. 14,16,15,& 18.....not counting today my total is 63 with 4 fish 15,15,16 &17, so I will be adding my 5th plus replacing my lowest, will put pics up in a few
my 5th and my replacement fish, my new total:15,16,16,17,18=82

No problem. I'm in Orlando and I'm new at fishing, pretty much. I caught this around 4pm on a hot windy day. I caught this on a plain old t-rigged purple worm in pretty deep water.
Czar nice fish out my spot I put you on lol. Ima be mad if u beat me with fish out my spot ha
Man I went to a spot i havent been in 4 months, skunked.....Fishing way too fast and frustrated. Gonna got with what worked last year, weightless small plastics, and stop swinging for the fences with big worms and lizards. Maybe some flukes. Hope tomorrow is better.
Nice fish Czar, what were you hooking them on? I need any tips I can get at this point LOL
Couple more from Tuesday and today...
^ I think this is the biggest post spawn fish Ive gotten this year at 7.2lbs! got it on video too. So much for summer being dead!

Nice videos, I like that little spot you got there. Seems like a big body of water there are probably multiple double digit fish in there.

Yea its nice. Its a pain in the @$$ though. Always getting hung up, break offs, stuck in trees, ect, but its got alot of big fish. In december i got my pb 11.1 lb in there. Around the same time (spawn) i hooked into a few might be double digits but broke one off and the other shook off on a jump. There are alot of spots like the one in the video where the edge just drops 8-15' covered by trees a little, and a bunch of fallen branches on the edge making it easier to get the summer bite. 2' out there where I was drops about 10-12'. Its a long wait for a weightless senko to drop unless the take it before hand lol. They still slow down though after 8 am.
Man, I step out for a day and you guys post these amazing catches. Bass Czar, good job. Fstr385, ok..ok..ok. we get it you want to be king of the hill. LOL. Awesome catches. Nice spot you have there. Pain in the butt or not it beats the fact that summer has been slow for others like me. I snuck out to the glades yesterday. Let's just say, I should have stayed put. It sucked. Keep up the the great work guys. I am jealous. No, really, I am jealous. LOL.
At the beginning of that one video I thought i was going to witness a murder.

When u hooked into that 7#er ur boy got up like holy s*** before u got the beast to shore then he clarified his initial reaction with his response lol I thought that part was funny
Sweet Vids Fstr85. I can see why you are the King of Hill. You know where to find them. Great job!!

What were you using?
I have been having luck using shallow diving crank baits (orange and black, yellow blue white colored) I pulled in a few last night and 5 this morning in a little under 2 hours, I got out later than I wanted to, but nothing big.

Swimg fluke and a grande bass rattlesnake.
Teamshrink thank you for sharing your info. The reason I asked those questions, is to benefit all of us as far as region, time of day, and technique the fish were caught. Although it's a friendly on-going tourney open to any Floridian angler, its serves at least for me, (I cannot speak for other fellow participants) as an educational tool. Believe it or not this friendly tourney has made me up my game. Unfortunately, my game is not showing much this month. LOL.
I agree with everything you said. I love this thread and use it as a good source of information. I'm glad that all of use on here are open to sharing our successes as well as short comings. Baits, techniques, etc have all been useful to not only myself but I'd bet basically all of us. I'm surprised other people from other areas haven't followed this threads lead. Just goes to show us Florida anglers are a different breed of fishermen. On 7/13/2013 at 3:53 AM, BassinLou said:Teamshrink thank you for sharing your info. That's exactly what we should do! I'm not sure bout coming in the summer since its hit or miss. You guys would just have to let me know when it's really active down there so the trips worth it around spawn or something.
If we could set it up where we could have two people to a boat that'd be cool, none us of Jacksonville anglers have one tho. I know my boy Bass Czar would be down to make that trip with me.
Well I finally have something I'm not ashamed of showing I went out from 6pm to 8:30pm today, it was raining cats and dogs, and not much bass... but it did rain some bass, LOL. Oh, and the lightnings were striking left and right, and I must say with every flash of thunder I saw I wasn't sure if it's just the light or a flashback of my life I'm about to experience
Anyways, below is yours truly, as well as an 18" fattie I pulled on a zoom green pumpkin lizard on a 4/0 EWG and an 1/8oz weight. Dropped it across the canal and let it sink to the bottom, few seconds later I checked my line and there she was so I think my total is 2x 13" dinks plus this 18" == 44... not exactly a top spot, but hey, i'm not giving up yet

These tourneys need to be every month it makes fishing that much more fun and enjoyable
Martin, fishing in the rain may be refreshing, but, be very careful when lightening is around. You are fishing with a rod!! During lightening!! Be careful. I went out Thurs to the everglades and got pinned down by a vicious lightening storm. Very Scary. Fortunately, I made it to my truck and waited it out.
Took my oldest out so we had a fun day with t-rigged n wacky centipedes. Pretty fun especially since we watched most of them slurp it up but nothing to show. Hope the bite is still on Monday

You're absolutely right! I knew I was taking a risk, but, I also knew that I was surrounded by taller structures, and having a lightning strike within yards of me before, I sort of knew i was relatively safe... my shoes were dry which is the key to surviving a strike near by. Then again, I was the only dumba$$ with a graphite rod out in the middle of heavy thunderstorm Some were hitting close to me, but with every flash I saw I counted seconds till the sound, and figured the closest one was about half a mile away, assuming 300 yards of sound travel per second. So I wasn't exactly in the middle of it, but they were a bit too close for comfort.
And yes it was refreshing in the rain! The temp dropped by 10*F, plus the heavy overcast and some wind! It was great! I wasn't even sweating in my rain jacket! Well, maybe a little when I saw the flashes
EDIT TO ADD: plus, it should show you my commitment, I mean, I'm willing to die trying to win this thing

You need to go back and read a bit about lightening. Your shoes were dry so you knew you were safe? If you an hear it, it can hit you!
There was an angler on lake okeechobee that got struck in the head doing 55mph on his way in right near where I was. I seen the lightning hit and it was enough to scare us in. After I heard what it hit, Ill never stay in a storm. It was the only lightning we seen, there wasnt a warning. Ive had it hit within 50-500' from me so many times, and nightmares, Im petrafied of it. I even put up a picture on facebook not long ago re doing grounding on cage surrounding an fpl transformer to a transfer switch and on into their grid when a storm was rolling in and I was about to quit my job lol.
Martin, I know you are saying your comments in jest. When I was younger, unmarried, no kids, I respected thunderstorms but I still took chances. Now like yourself, married and with kids, I REALLY RESPECT thunderstorms. This time year, the fishing is slow, its hot and when storms come around the fishing picks up, unfortunately however, we are the lightening capital of the world so your odds increase against you when you are out there. Be mindful.

yea, i took all the advice on t-storms to heart... went out yesterday, and the second i got to my spot (on foot, 150 yards from my house) it started raining, black clouds moved in, and flashes all over. i packed it up quick and had some Scotch at home instead
Yea man if I'm out and it starts to rain I will stay fishing. Once I hear thunder I get in my car and leave, no fish not even a double digit or state record is worth the risk of my life. Especially when you have other people to live for ie my wife and son

Yea if you take the ramp at rock island go east then take that canal that goes way down north up past royal palm, it ends and goes east again behind firefighters memorial toward 441, i live off that one. Gotta pass under some tight bridges. used to live off the power line one that leads to it, and since my landlord ripped my boat off at that last place, I never leave it in the water. I just took it for a test run out there past the turnpike to the lock friday since I just got it back from the shop.

Yea i used to. It was a blue fiberglass nitro. Green and white interstate deep cycle. Im not allowed to mention anything because he filed a restraining order against me afraid I was going to kick his ass even though I filed first!
Martin, I hope the Scotch hit the spot. Ak-NJ and Bass Czar keep tearing it up. What's up with glove? Fstr385, I remember the vid you played us last year I think with your landlord taking your stuff. It always does BassinLou! It always does
I need to vent hit up a couple spots with bass czar with no luck. We get to the last spot and I'm frustrated that none of us caught anything not even a strike. I'm using a storm swimming shad cast it way out by these Lilly pads, there were patches of them through out the pond, I will get to that later! I'm reeling and then I feel my line completely stop, so I think I'm hung up on the pads. Then I feel it run right and realize its a fish. Czar looks over and the beast jumps straight out the water cleared atleast 2 feet. He thought I was still using my frog and the fish just hit it. Now back to the fish. EASILY bigger than anything ever posted in our competitions and bigger than a majority of the fish people post in the fishing report section! Would have put me way into the double digit club. So I reel it in and it gets caught up in a patch of Lilly pads!!!! Czar tells me to let slack out so it could run but it was too late. I let the slack out waited reeled felt it still on and then snap! Atleast I had someone with me this time when the monster got off. It will haunt me until I break into the double digit club. Me and Camzar were saying that I would have rather not seen the fish and have it get snagged and lose it than to actually see the fish of a life time and then lose it about 10 yards or so from shore.
I will be at that pond every single weekend now until I get it again!
Bet the alligator ate it lol....so u found a pond with pads I take it. Now u know why some guys throw that 65# braid
Yea it's right off gate parkway In this apartment complex. It looks like bass heaven and not to mention that 10 to 13 pounder swimming around in there. If you ever have some free time shoot me a PM and fish it with us. I want to see that fish again and get my swim bait back so more people fishing it with me the better the chance one of us gets the once in a life time bass
That's a tough one AK-NJ. Big Bass are masters for utilizing cover to break off. I have lost three nice bass this year due to them heading into the pads. The good news is you know your spot carries some big fatties. I do not want to see estimates when you catch one. Remember to bring your scale to these outings.

Is that right before the FBI building there are two lakes a big one and a smaller one at the end of a cul de sac.A guy here at worked fished it with a canoe and said he caught the biggest bass of his life outta there. After I told my buddy about the guy at work, he went to try it and has been a couple times and nothing, there is a big gator in there he said though. Said saw a lot of 2-4 pound fish catching air too.
I usually only fish early early and not for long but if I do get a chance I will let you know.
Man I had a new xcalibur lipless in long ear this morning got a decent fish that got off at my feet and slithered through my hands, guess it to be about 15 to 16 inches. three casts later got hung up and lost the new bait. Also lost a lot of line later on, not a great morning but hey that one felt good to have it on.

That could possibly be it, I'm not sure cuz Czar showed me the spot. But fish of a lifetime in there check, fish catching air check, and big gator check (there are signs but we didn't see any) so this could be the pond once you are out of the development the 295 exit is like right there. I am going back there tonight around 6:30 or 7 til dark again see what happens this time
This fish could ruin my relationship with my girl. She was so sick of hearing about it and knowing that I was thinking about it. She wanted to do some "grown up activities" before bed but she knew I couldn't stop thinking about it so she got ticked and slept in the other room.
This will haunt me for god knows how long man. I planned on going fishing this morning got up at 4:30 after going to sleep at 3:15, I sat there dwelling on the fish and lost all motivation to go out lol.

Lou I use to use my scale religiously before this competition, now the tape measure took its place. Anything I felt was close to 3lbs was on the scale.

Struck out on the big one but managed to get 3 nice size two 17" and one 18" and some dinks. I hit up the law school lake this morning ran into the cool security guard he just waved to me and kept it moving, I missed a nice fat one wasn't hooked right, and pulled in 4 decent ones didn't think they would replace my lowest 19" so I didn't bother measuring them
Caught them all last night using a swimming shad same kind I hook the monster on, not sure what brand they are though originally thought Storm but they aren't
This morning I got 3 of them on a white ribbit frog and missed the biggest one and caught the other one on a KVD 1.5 crank bait in crawfish color

Well the technicallity that most people fail to realize is that most ponds are like that are state property/mainatianed. Now the pond at the above is linked via creeks, and talking with my boss who is a native and done numerous drainage studies in the area, the water runs south to Julington creek. If it is a blue line stream it actually falls under the army corp jurisdictiona and protection and a good percentage of the time is actually a state or federal waterway that is not owned by the state/feds which likely applies to that pond. That is why they have no right to post the signs nor have they posted signs yet. The security just try to scare you away. Now the highway ponds are state owned(FDOT), most have tresspassing signs and such, because they don't want hazards for drivers/liability.
I knew you guys were cheating up there!! Going into illegal privately owned bass retention ponds, with armed security guards patrolling the area. No wonder MCS fishes so early in the morning and AK-NJ and Bass Czar fish at night!! Busted!! YOU GUYS ARE DISQUALIFIED. LOL..LOL.. It's the only way I stand a chance right now with you guys. I generally try to find ponds in residential communities, parks, office complexes, and golf courses that have been there for many years at least 10. MCS put me onto that last year
me and czar fish with this guy who has access to Orange Park Country Club and those ponds have been there since the 70's the guy was saying. Only problem is we can only go when he has time since its restricted access. But he has caught tons of fish over 6lbs and 15 that exceed 10lbs all this year!! Orange park has some ponds that are ancient and hold some monster fish. He was showing me pics of fish he caught around Orange Park and it makes the fish I think are big that I caught look like guppies lol.

Yep gotta love google earth and it's time rewind function.
I know who you are talking about. He was on here for a minute, him and Jaxbasser posted up some of their trips.
You and Czar ever fish that one pond near Argyle I told him about? Hit me in a PM the guy who told me about it lived in jax for 30 yrs and moved to the west coast, I don't fish over there because of time and the drive is too far. He caught and released an 11 # and a couple 8 # and the pond is small, talking about an acre or less.

Because people have no clue. They don't know what an easement is, their realtor probably told them they own to the water or some cases they think they own the water.LOL

Old ponds are treasure mines. Big fish reside there. MCS good luck tomorrow. Bass Czar you are on a rampage. You guys cannot imagine how bad I want to be fishing. I am on a family vacation and I am reading all these catches. Regardless, I would be stuck anyways. South FL is being pounded by rain. That means unfortunately the Everglades is out of commission for several months. These tourneys may force me to find new waters. THANKS GUYS

why would the glades be a bad place to fish after all this rain?
Whenever the water rises and it spills over the banks, the water returns into the marshes and flats. Accessibility, becomes very limited to boats. If you have an Airboat you are in business. Martin have you ever questioned why the glades is the hotspot for bass fishing in the Spring? The reason is, because besides bass spawning, the water levels are at there lowest and the fish are contained in the canals.

Thanks, Its zoom lizard but the color changed from mixing with other baits. I think it was supposed to be junebug.
New pond, no luck. looks like a future spot, buddy managed one 12 incher.
On a brightside my buddy let me throw with a older version of the biatcaster I picked up.
Not bad, was getting the thumbing down, he had it tuned just right though. no major backlashes
I was nervous about learning. Switching the hands was the hardest part.

LOL! i have a little go to plastic bag with different baits, and the other day colors from a red worm leaked onto green lizards, made them look freaky awesome! like some super painted custom bait! oh and they did catch fish
Mike, once you get the thumbing part down on the bait caster you will start seeing your arsenal of rods and reels increase. I picked up baitcasting when I was in my late to mid 20's and it has changed the way I fish dramatically. Do not get me wrong, spinners have their place in bass fishing, however several applications are superior in my opinion with a b/c. Trust me, once you get past the learning curve, there's nothing like stickin a pig with a b/c when your froggin. Good Luck. Keep at it.
Went to the golf course today and got 9 and missed a bunch on the hookset. 19" (3) 17" (2) 16" and the others didn't bother to measure. I was using a black with red flake ribbit frog. I was talking to this golfer who came up to me I had my frog sitting about 2 feet off shore for a good 3 minutes. I turn around frog bounces and I see a huge wave come towards it as I take it out the water then it spun around and swam off I was bigger than what I caught this morning. It probably was watching it the whole time bass are extremely patient when they want to be, the second it moved again it made the decision to eat it.
Even while doing nothing your still catching fish!! C'mon!! LOL. Bass hit when you least expect it.

Yeah I was a little thumb heavy this morning but better than backlashing. I am looking forward to getting my setup going. I need a rod still, part of the "purchase agreement" was I buy the reel now cuz it was a deal on closeout and get it for Christmas. But I will still have it ready in time for slow rolling some siebert bluegill spinner baits and grass jigs through beds during spawn!

Once I got the baitcaster down, I couldnt use a spinner. Like you, i didnt like switching hands, all my reels are left handed, so I can use my right hand on the rod cast, retrieve, and hookset, n reel with my left like I was used to.
Mike, researching rods will be fun. When your time comes to pull the trigger on a new rod, especially toward the end of the year, look up St. Croix bargain room. They mark down some of their high end rods to make room for new ones. You might be able to find what you are looking for. That's what I did and its one of my favorite rods.

Yeah the only ones they had were right, just like the model I used today. I considered looking for a lefty but figured it was a good deal and would try it the "traditional" way. If I can't get the hand switch down I will sell it and go left.

Yea, i dont know why more retailers dont carry a larger stock of left hand reels. I made a thread on here asking how many right handed guys use left hand reels, and it seemed at least 50% or more used leftys. I started goin to bps to find ones I like, then find them on ebay and get em left hand for less lol. I like the abu garcia silver max. They have the flip switch on them too, easy to take apart, and can be found on ebay for $50 shipped. Pretty versitile for most common types of fishing. Once you get them down, the control over a spinner is much better.
Here is a funny thought that just hit me Mike while reading your posts. I can relate with you right now actually. I am going through a learning curve with a spinners actually. I have been battling with fisherman elbow for over 1 1/2 now. I self taught myself to fish when I was a kid, and I am naturally left handed. When my dad bought me my first rod and reel, me being a kid, I did not know the reel handles could be reversed so I learned how to fish righty. Fast forward to present day. I have had to switch the handles to the other side now due to my elbow and learn how to fish my natural side. It's taken me a while to get used it. Go figure.
I have an abu Garcia revo but I never use it cuz I can't get the hang of the baitcast. I need someone to show me the ropes all my buddies I fish with use spinning.
I don't understand the whole setting your braking system. I saw a video where he told me to flip every other switch, so I did that. But I don't understand how to adjust it to each lure

Well my buddy gave me a quick show on the knobs. Adjusting to the bait is done with the little knob(spool tension I think) next to the drag. The brake is different and has to do with over spinning the spool on cast. I dunno dude, it seems pretty easy if you talk to someone that knows what there doing.
He showed me how to let the bait free fall etc.

I'm going to keep it in my car with my othe rods and practice from time to time. It's a lot easier like you said when someone is with you and shows you. When you get the hang if it we can hit up a few ponds and you can show me if I don't get it down by then

THANKS! I see some bargins already....This is what I do! I am much more patient than when I fish. I snagged a $90 spinning reel in Feb for $44 bucks(I trolled for like 4 months until I found the right deal) and a $60 spinning reel for $30 a few years ago. This baitcaster I just paid $99 for was $189. All new in box. Just have to wait for the good deals.

Yeah man no problem. I hope I pick it up pretty quick.
I remember when I got my first baitcaster last year and went out to this spot where a neighbor sometimes watches me fish. I swear he must have thought I was on drugs or something. It took me about 30 minutes and 10 professional overruns before I got basic hang of it. Biggest problem for me was figuring out when to release the spool when casting, how to slow it down with my thumb, and finally stop it once it lands. Also the hand switching was awkward. fast forward to few weeks ago when I tried a spinning rod and I put it down after one cast. i just couldn't do it, it felt so unnatural. also, i've invested in good quality casting reels and with proper adjustment of the spool tension, i don't even have to touch the spool during the cast, only at the end to stop it once the bait lands. the cast control is incredible, i can control the distance by slowing down the spool, this way i can place a bait inches from bank's edge, either on the grass or in the water, depending what i need it to do. and amazingly i can also steer it left or right in flight using the rod. it's like your reel and rod are a joystick and you have a direct control of the bait's trajectory. but that took few more months to get a hang of. i can't imagine not fishing bait casters...
AK-NJ, send me a PM on your questions in regards to your revo reel. I have an S and STX and I know them pretty well. Don't leave a sweet reel in your car like that. I can walk you thru on how to set it up and with what baits to use them on. When you come down and we fish the Glades you are going to wish you knew how to handle a b/c.
AK-NJ, PM sent.
Went to my bank spots this am and had no luck. The place is already cramped with only a few places to hit by foot, but the water was up in the trees and I couldnt get a good cast out. Went to a corner with a little more room and hook about a 4lber, but it broke off at the shore under some floating salad. Other than that, just 2 dinks. Time to break out the boat!
No bass but did catch 3 snakes on my spinning rod. It was alot of fun because the drag was screaming even when locked down tight. I usually use baitcasting gear and my revo doesnt even blink when locked all the way. The not fun part was trying to get the fish out of the weeds it buried itself into because the canal was so narrow. I saw 2 pairs with fry, one set were about 9lbs a piece but no luck. Its crazy when you see one come out of cover and see the red eyes looking at the bait.
Here in Jacksonville the past two mornings from 6:30 to 8:30 they have been killing my Black Ribbit Frog. Yesterday I managed 9 and this morning I pulled in another 7 including a nice 4lb not long enough to replace my lowest 19". Both days I hooked a big one the one today was in the range of 6 but I didn't hook it right and lost it about 10 feet in front of me
Between the two days I can't even count the amount of hook sets I have missed, like I said I have been exclusively using my top water frog.
Lou still not havin luck with the baitcast lol all this fishing was done with my spinning while my baitcast lay next to me in a birds nest lol. I hope to get the hang of it eventually

What type of bait are you trying to throw on it?
On 7/20/2013 at 12:46 AM, MCS said:What type of bait are you trying to throw on it?
At first I was throwing a frog and gt backlashes few times so I tried a tsunami swim shad (the name of the bait I used to hook the Double digit) since it has a little more weight got a few nice casts then backlashes so I went back to spinning. I don't think my break was set up right for the heavier shad
And it feels different holding and reeling going to have to really get use to that now
Andrew, sounds like you have to engage more brakes and tighten the dial a little more. The frog has plenty of weight to cast, it sounds like you have to dial it in more and remember your thumb. Other than that you are on a roll in Jacksonville. I come back into town tomorrow so I will see how I finish in July.

BUT TONIGHT it's going down!!!! 12am fishing at the 30+ year old ponds hopefully we pull in some monsters tonight and make fishing at night worth it!
Nice, especially with a buzzbait. I just came back in, after being out for week. Bass were no where in site. I also missed to nice peacocks. Weather starting to look pretty ugly so called it early.
went out with my brother today, he got 15 bass!!! and one snakehead on a SENKO!!! i clocked in at 7 bass on lizards, and in the evening i switched to jigs and pulled two more. over all a great day of fishing for the two of us, but all were small i told him next time he has to visit in march-april, we'll be killing them bass!!!!

It was suppose to be me, czar, and this other member. Then it turned into me and the other member, then just him lol. I was up early with czar that morning fishing and wanted to nap before the midnight fish. I never did and figured I'd stay up. Last time I looked at my phone it was like 11:45 then when u did again it was 2 something lol. But he went by himself for just under 3 hours and he said he pulled in 27 fish his biggest being 11lbs! Me and him are going out Monday morning around 5 so if I have any fish to post I definitely will! I hoping to change my 19, 19, 20, 20, 21.
I've been out so much over past couple days and I keep catching nice fat ones but everything has been 19". This morning I managed 4 of them and a total of 17 fish. My girlfriend came out with me for a little and she caught 7 I had he using the frog and she is hooked lol. She use to use swim baits and cranks cuz she ha constant action but now she's addicted to the top water action that the frogs get.
11 pounds!!!! Did he take pics?? How did you sleep thru that?? You can tell you have been fishing too much when you said that everything has been only 19". I wish I had those LOL. We may have to change up the rules a bit and take weight into account. But then you come across scale issues. Not all of us have scales and/or they are all different scales some running heavy and some low.

I'm not sure if he took pictures I will ask him. I thought I caught nice fish until he showed me the consistent 8, 9, and 10lb fish he has in his phone. His PB is 13 I think and he has caught 15 double digit fish at this golf course since April he said.
I'm hoping to break my PB multiple times tomorrow morning
WHAT??? You are killing me over here. That's awesome. With fish running that big why would you want to come down here??

Because I have only fished out of a boat once in my life and I want to catch some peacock bass too.
And the golf course, it's actually a community like a mini town, is gated access 1 way in 1 way out and you can't get in without verification so it's not like I can go whenever I want to we have to wait for him to have time away from his family
CHECK THIS OUT!!!
HERE is the good news.....
Just came in and caught these beauties. I took page from RVADOG book and decided to fish Turnpike ponds today. I fished 3 of them close to me. 1st pond caught a dink. 2nd pond caught 0. Then the 3rd pond was a GOLD MINE. First catch, caught on the first cast went for 4lbs. Second fish went for 3lb and change. Then the third fish Big Momma went for 6lbs. Best part, all of them came on hollow body frog. The explosions were AWESOME!!! Now the bad news.... Soon after I caught and released the 6lbr. Florida Highway Patrol kicked me out and told me no fishing was allowed in the Turnpike ponds. I pleaded with them to let me stay, but to no avail. With this trip, and the one to the park my total is 98 inches. Woohoo!! I am pumped, and its my B-Day tomorrow. Their lengths are 17inches, 19 inches, 19 inches, 21 inches and 22 inches. I still have some time left for a strong contention in July.
Way to go Lou. Sorry you got kicked out.The section I've fished on the TP (St. Lucie county) I asked to troopers and was told it was ok as long as you paid the tolls. The was a few years ago though.
Awesome fish Lou!!!! Bank fishing ain't so bad hah. I've been exclusively throwing Stanley Ribbit hollow body frogs they love em! Nothing like the blow ups they get. What kind of frogs were you using? On 7/22/2013 at 7:37 AM, BassinLou said:CHECK THIS OUT!!!

I am coming to get you Andrew!!! LOL. If the trooper would not have kicked me out I honestly believed I was going to catch my PB. The bass I was catching were progressively getting bigger and the strikes more ferocious. I was using a Live Target frog. I love them. I picked up that the bass wanted and aggressive approach today. I would pop the frog hard 2-3 times and let it rest then BOOM!!! AWESOME!!!! Can you still tell I am still stoked from this trip??

Yea man I love top water strikes. I was telling some like you said those highway ponds hold some big fish. The past few days I have just been throwing a frog and have been getting good numbers of fish and some nice big ones.
Did you catch most of them by the shore line or further out? I have mostly all my luck casting across the shore.
I caught them a little off shore. The spot I was at, had good diverse vegetation with pads and patches of grass. Those ponds run deep. What was scary was that the grass surrounding the pond was high, dense, and flooded. Mosquitoes were huge. Thanks to your story about the water moccasin I was paranoid, every where I stepped.
Yea man the bugs are annoying but I am always on the look for snakes! It just takes 1 moccasin to ruin your day. Some will run but there are some that will stand their ground and attack.
Okeechobee Angler, I really do not know the reason why you can't fish there. There were no signs posted any where. He just drove up to the shoulder and with his thumb told me to get out. When I pleaded and asked him why he just said sorry, you can't fish any of these ponds by the Turnpike. Figures... you find a spot with big fish and you are not allowed to fish it. Oh well. I still landed a beauty.
Great fish Lou ! If y'all let me count the one I didn't get a pic I am at 33". Lol going to give a run this week. Take a simple approach, senkos and flukes. Sucks you lost the spot, I lost one of my better ones recently too. I agree, not worth any trouble. There are plenty of spots I will move down the road and fish on! Good luck to all of y'all as we close out July, full moon week I should be at full strength! Lol
Thanks Mike. Best of luck.
I tried searching online if it was illegal or not and couldn't find anything. I did see where someone stated it was illegal to park on the side of the road on the turnpike unless your vehicle is broke down etc.
biggest one today only pulled in 2 in about 2hrs had a few misses also.. was using a swimbait yea AK be killing it with the frogs I never have any luck with any kind of frog
Bass Czar, AK mentioned you caught an 11 lbr last night. Any pics of that one?
OkeechobeeAngler, I was parked well away from the side of the road and the pond is several yards away as well. Again, the only way to find out why is to talk to a Trooper. Real Bummer.

It wasn't czar it's our other boy. He is a member on this site hasn't been on in a long time though.
I am going out with him this morning from 5a til whenever. Hopefully I have some good fish to post here!

I think that is what will get you most times. But it doesn't stop people, I see people jsut pull up to these nice ponds off I95 at the world of golf and have at it. There are a couple spots locally here where you can park and walk and sidewalks next to the ponds, I have seen people fishing those.

Well I will take the good with the bad. Good I got 7 fish in just over an hour. The bad is none were bigger than 15". But is was fun, good way to start the week.
First one was on a PB&J xfactor stick bait from Gander. next was on a baby bass fluke. Tore the nose so I just nose hooked it, never have before, and the action was great. I think I read it from a Jfranco post. But that landed me 2 more including the biggest. I went back to the stick wacky rigged and got three more decent fish. It was the xfactor wacky stick with the O ring in them, nice kept the bait together after 3 fish, the first one woulda ripped it in half. Not bad for 3 bucks off the sale rack.
Went fishing this morning with my buddy to some ponds that are over 40 years old. We get there around 6am and his first cast we hear a monster attack his frog but he missed it, he said he thought it was a 12lb. Double digit fish are common in all the ponds in this golf community. At around 7:15 I cast my frog along the bank and see a huge wake come towards my frog and then nothing. I reel it in and let it sit by some pads. All of a sudden a 10# comes out of nowhere and grabs my frog I tried to set the hook but it spit it out.
Now to the fish that was landed lol
My buddy was using a tilapia colored trick worm on a weighted hook, and I switched to a Tsunami Swim Shad. He was walking along the bank and saw a 15# sitting by a mat. He throws his worm out and the fish crushed it he went to set the hook but the fish bit the worm off there was about 2" or worm left of the hook. So I cast my swim bait in that area and then out of nowhere two more fish show up next to the massive one. It turns around and as my shad is coming towards it the second biggest one slams it. I set the hook and the fight was on. Out of nowhere my Pflueger Presidential reel with 30# braid on a 6'9" St Croix Mojo Bass rod, breaks off!!
Then the fish starts going back out towards deeper water. I grab my braid and then manage to pull the fish to land and grab it. When I took the hook out there was no way it was getting off it inhaled the swim bait. So we had to postpone our trip and go to Academy Sports and buy a new reel. I bought a Abu Garcia OrraSX30 with 30# braid. So that fish cost me $130 lol
24 inches.
New Top 5: 19, 20, 20, 21, 24 = 104
How much did that fish weigh?....Dang dude I would tried to get Pflueger to warranty that stuff. Man I fell in my garage on my templar and that thing held up. How much u pay for that Orra? Just an FYI if academy will price match they are online for $80.
Nice fish Andrew. If you had a the b/c you would have been able to get better hookset on the big one. (kidding.... not really). Keep practicing with the b/c it will change the way you fish for the better. Trust me. Also, you jumped ahead pretty good. I think you are the man to beat. WTG.

Mike, way to go after them. Where there are 15 inchers there are 20 inchers. Keep at it. I know I do with the numbers AK and Bass Czar are putting up.

Andrew sorry for the mis-read. Either way a pic would be awesome to see.
7. I called Plunger and I need to find proof of purchase. I got it from Dick's I'm not sure if I paid cash or not. I wonder if Academy price matches probably not but if they do I would use that extra $20 on some lures, it was $100

That's why I got the Abu from Academy. My buddy had his for 3 years and let his friend borrow it. Friend managed to mess up the reel and he took it back to Academy and they told him to go get another one and he didn't have a receipt.
And I've seen the fish in his phone so I know the reel can bring in the BIGGENS
I wish I did but it wasn't me lolOn 7/22/2013 at 11:23 AM, BassinLou said:Bass Czar, AK mentioned you caught an 11 lbr last night. Any pics of that one?
Yeah, I misread Bass Czar. Sorry.
Nice catch Ak.
Does this contest only apply for bass or any kind of fish?
AK, not trying to steal your spots but im just curious as to what course youre fishing? Ive asked a few around orange park/oakleaf and they said they didnt want me fishing their ponds. Tried the pond on wells but its a little weedy so im gonna wait for it to cool down and clear out a bit. Been hitting a small pond in my apt complex, getting some decent numbers but all under 15".
Yea it's just for bassOn 7/23/2013 at 8:01 AM, Matt Lutze said:Does this contest only apply for bass or any kind of fish?
Yea wells is really weedy right now. But it's orange park country club. It's a private golf community so you can only get in there if you are a member, live there, or a family/friend on the list of someone who lives there. Only one way in and one way out.On 7/23/2013 at 9:15 AM, dsidle61 said:AK, not trying to steal your spots but im just curious as to what course youre fishing? There is a old golf course converted into apartments on beymeadows that hold some nice fish
I gotcha yeah I have golfed there before so I know the rules lol you're pretty lucky to have that available! I've got a spot on an old course near my place that someone told me about the other day to try out. All this rain has slowed things down a bit for me. I'm still limited in my spots too bc I'm new to orange park but I'll find my honey hole for the good fall fishing I hope!

Yea I am not familiar with orange park fishing spots my two buddies I fish with are from over there so they know. I have a few spots marked on my gps that my one friend has pulled double digit fish out of.
We should all do some fishing sometime when the weather cools down and the fish are more active. Get all the local Jacksonville fishermen to link up one day and fish a nice spot
Going out to the OPGC or Biggen Central tonight with the crew. Hopefully we have some good pics for you guys... well hopefully I do, not Czar since we are in a competition lol
The way the fishing has been going with you lately, I would say stay sleeping again..

Hah yea my boy wants to go late night around 11 and then again early morning I might be sleeping through one of those trips lol
Yeah, you should get your rest and sleep through them both.
I am heading out early tomorrow. Man I was up early but been working like a dog, have a submittal.
Got the jitterbug since I haven't thrown that in a while, a texas rigged brush hog and a centipede on a split shot rig or switch it up to wacky or weightless if need be.

Whoa...Whoa....Whoa... there are prizes now!!! AK, you are going down!!! You are starting to get cocky. LOL. LOL. Funny reading the friendly rivalry between you and bass czar. You focus on him and don't pay too much attention to me.
Nah this is all friendly competition I said hopefully, I can see someone coming up with some nice fish within the next week. I focus on Czar cuz I fish with him almost everyday. And most his fish came out my spots I will lose to anyone else gracefully but not him! LolOn 7/24/2013 at 7:09 AM, BassinLou said:Whoa...Whoa....Whoa... there are prizes now!!! We went to the golf course and a few casts in my braid and frog gets wrapped around my pole, I don't realize, I cast out and my rod snaps!! What a way to start off a night of fishing! Luckily my buddy had an extra rod with him in his car.
But u are all lucky that what I landed tonight couldn't be measured!!!
I cast my frog out and BOOM I hook into the BIGGEN!!! The second I set the hook it runs and the part of the rod that holds the reel SNAPS!!! I yell I got a BIGGEN and they both come running. This point Im holding the reel with my one hand and reeling with the other while rod is pinched between my arm pit lol. So it's getting closer to shore and Czar goes to the water to get the fish and all of a sudden a gator head pops up and he lunges back. I hooked a 5ft BIGGEN!! I hooked it pretty far out and my abu Garcia Orra sx with 30# braid brought the beast to shore while I'm holding and reeling the reel at the same time. The gator obviously must have been tired. STANLEY RIBBIT HOLLOW BODY FROGS!!!
So after I broke his rod too I had to go to academy AGAIN and buy a new rod LMAO. Good thing it happened when it did because we got to academy right before they close. My St. Croix mojo bass rod is covered under dicks warranty so I can get a new one tomorrow. I have had some bad, HORRIBLE luck with rods and reels at the OPGC.
As far as fish go my biggest was prob 2.5 and my other buddy got a 4. We called it an early night and stopped at 10:30 they just weren't biting. Probably going to try again tomorrow evening and then all day Saturday.
So how you get the gator off man, you wrestle it and get your frog back LOL
It's amazing the lengths we go through to save a lure. LOL. Gators sometimes show up when you least expected. Especially when it rains a lot. Fortunately, you laugh about this experience.

You know, in FL it's perfectly legal to open carry a firearm while hunting, fishing, or camping, assuming you have a CCW license Might want to think about that one... LOL

In all seriousness go for the eyes, their instinct is to drop and run, they can't hunt without eyes and they know it.
Andrew, sounds like you guys have to do equipment checks. I am sure the reel you broke the other day, was showing signs of a crack somewhere you were not aware of. Your buddies rod must have been damaged already also. Remember, braid is very powerful and you have make sure your reel's drag is properly set at all times when handling braid or heavy lines for that matter.

Nice! Im busy this weekend, but Ill give you a jingle the following weekend, maybe we can meet up over there
Since that one I haven't got anything of size biggest was 18" and that was just 1. I have missed a lot of top water strikes but they are not blowing up on it like they were. I caught like 5 fish since then. Not sure if the weather or moon has anything to do with it. Another factor could be because they sprayed the ponds at my golf course and a lot of the top water grass is gone. Not sure where the fish move when that happens.
I am going to hit up some of the retention ponds on the side of the highways this weekend. Hopefully the cops don't bother me like they did to you Lou. The spot where you caught that 6lb in the pic is perfect for what I want to do, saw one like it but it had signs. I need to find some spots with lots of vegetation, grass, and structure since I'm on a top water binge.

The pond we talked about right down the street from me....pm me if you need me to be more specific.
Got my first 5 fish on a baitcaster.....Buddies lend me down Abu Ultra Mag 1
Nothing more than 13 or 14" tho. I missed a nice 3 or 4 pound fish yesterday though did a jump, spit and hahahaha then swam away.
I like seeing AK and MCS getting outside their comfort zones and using B/C's. I am telling you, its going to change the way you approach fishing. Ever since that big one on Sunday, I have not been able to catch anything worth culling. I lost a nice one on Tues, that would have gotten me closer to AK but it got off. I will head out and try for an hour or so later. Yeah, AK, you would have gone crazy where I was on Sun. The pic does give the place justice.
AK, look at the pic I put up, where the red arrow is located, is where the 6lb exploded on my frog.

That's funny because when I was looking at te picture that's how I would have fished it I would have fished my frog along the outside edge of the pads and then the inside. Like I said I found a pond on the side of 295 I believe that is exactly like that one but signs were posted, it's a shame I need to find another similar one

yea except he's more interested in the worms than fish, and digging for them and my 3-yo girl nearly got a heart attack when a 4 inch sunfish started flopping on the grass LOL!
I just got back in, and it sucked today. Not even a nibble. I am going to have to venture out further and find other areas that are similar to that retention pond. Man, I miss that place so much already. Time is running out.

Yea man that's why I want to get down to S Fl catch me some of the south fl fish!
But I had a horrible morning went out from 5:15 til 7:45 and landed 4 and missed 14 all on my frog! Missed 4 biggens too. Then I went out with Czar and our other buddy to a bunch of spots must have hit 15 different lakes it seemed like and absolutely NOTHING! It was rough. We are going to the Golden Course tonight into the AM so hopefully we have some pics for you guys
I have decided, that I am done for the month. I know I have few days left, but I am going to end this month on a high note with that peacock. My elbow is really acting up with all of this fishing, and I am ignoring the warnings. If I continue I will be in trouble. Best of the luck to rest of the participants. Although it was slow, I had a good month. Caught a 6lb bass and beautiful peacock bass. Til next time.
Awesome pea Lou what did u land it on?
Those are one thing I really want to target if I make it south.
Mike, I caught that pea on a yum 4 inch stick bait. It's unconventional for peacock fishing, but I was stalking this one for about 20mins.

20+ bass, sounds like you had a great day Martin. The spot you chose, the background looks great for frogging that grass, I see. The pond really looks like its pretty flooded. I could be wrong, I am basing it out of one pic. Also, it does not sound like you were run off by troopers. That's a plus too.

i was frogging it for an hour and got nothing, so i switched rods and went with zoom lizard and that's when it really picked up. some spots i was landing fish on every cast and no, no troopers to be seen, only drivers entering highway and honking at me LOL
That's cool. Too bad the frog bite was not on while you were there. I am sure your numbers for the contest would have jumped up.

I was thinking the same thing bout the grass and froggin
Me, Czar, and our buddy went out to OPCC at 5:30a and on his first cast our buddy gets a nice 3# on the frogs we use.
I had a few misses and landed a nice 6lb 22" right at the shore! I was using a frog and got a wind knot. My frog was probably 20 feet or so from me in the water. I'm trying to get the knot out for a few mins and my foot hits the line and then the frog moves and I see this huge wake inches away from my frog. So at that point I am trying to clear the wind knot as fast as I can. I reel in the slack a little and leave the frog still for another 3 mins while I get the rest of the knot. I think to myself to bounce the frog again so I do and huge ripple again right next to it. I get the knot out and reel about a foot and then the fish slammed my frog and started pulling drag from the shore
Nice Andrew!! I guess that one seals the deal with you for July. Like I mentioned yesterday, I still want to compete to the very end, but my elbow really needs the rest. Unless, someone pulls off a hail mary of a day fishing. Andrew may be the King of the hill for July. I gotta give credit where credit is do. Andrew you had an awesome July.
the crew went out early today to opcc the guys land 2 big fish I had 1 ok size missed a lot on the frog, but AK and I went to our other spot after OPCC I land 2 big nice ones 19 & 20in all in the first 4 or 5 cast, I was using a 1/8 small red buzzbait only 1 replacement fish for my top5.. new total:19,19,19,20,21=98On 7/21/2013 at 6:04 AM, bass Czar said:went early in the AM with Ak we got a lot of fish and had a lot of misses too...here are my biggest 2 on a crank and buzzbait got another 19in to replace my lowest 17in ...new total:18,19,19,19,21=96

Im not sure. I think I made it just over 100". I havent really had much time to get into it very well this month. Pretty sure you got it again lol. Im getting into a bass club to do some tourney fishing too soon, so that might pressure more big fish up comming months >:-)

Yea you will shut the competition down doing tourney fishing! I can't wait to see the fish we are all posting during the spawn its gonna be crazy.
LOVE this thread, I really wanna do something like this for northern guys...
I went out on sunday and had a pretty good day. Need to remember to put a measure tape in the tackle box so I can joint the fun. I was out in margate at around 4:30pm caught a few small bass largest maybe 2#'s and one small snakehead. I had went out earier on sunday morning at the end of royal palm blvd and sawgrass and got skunked. The afternoon trip made up for it!
Awesome peacock BassinLou!

LOL You would be the winner this month for the NE. You can join this one, recent pics show you can hang with the FL boys.

so you fished about a mile form my house that spot at the end of Royal Palm sucks! it gets a bit better when the canal turns north but still sucks
Thanks DynoMyte, I have not caught a peacock like that in years. I think it maybe a personal best. My scale was acting up again, but it is beautiful, solid fish.

lol yeah all i caught was a little sun burn and maybe malaria, mosquitos were terrible out there. left the house in a rush without repellent, but sure had the fish repellent on that A.M.
definately going to have to get a tape measure and get in on the fun, i have been stalking this forum for about a month but just haven't posted.

not to thread jack but what club are you joining? i have been looking at some of the clubs around south florida and thought it might be cool to sign on so i could be a co-angler and maybe get some experience. getting out on a boat would be a plus too.
Dynomyte, welcome aboard. I am curious how many thread stalkers are out there following this thread. It will be cool if we had more people get on board. It's fun with the people who are currently participating but I am sure there are many more out there who want to "play" sort of speak. For everyone else reading, are we having an August competition?? If so, I do not want any ninjas to appear. Meaning people just come out of nowhere and want to play. Play is open to anyone in Florida, however I feel, and the rest of you please chime in, that you have to announce your intention to play. Also, keep in mind this is a sharing and learning competition. Participants have to share general region, (not your "spot" unless you want to) and time of day. I find the sharing of baits and techniques are helpful too. Current participants, share your input and let us know if what I mentioned makes sense. Lastly, I gotta say. I had a blast this month. Yes, it was extremely hot, tough, frustrating, challenging, but finally fun. You guys made me get out of my comfort zone and try new locations. I got kicked out of the best spot but either way I picked up new ideas. Thanks for helping me grow as a fisherman. I still have a lot to learn and share. Looking forward to next month.
..... and AK you have a bullseye on your back...... lol. Great job this month. Congrats if you win.
Yeah Lou that sounds good. I am in for August tho 32" this month pretty might as well stayed home.
I agree with everything you said Lou 100%! Thanks for the early congrats but anything could happen in the next couple days.
This friendly competition makes fishing much more fun for me and when you miss those big ones it stays with you much longer lol. I like seeing what people are catching and how they caught them. This thread brings us all together like our own bass club. That's what we should call it Florida Bass Club part 4.
I will post my 5 fish at some point tomorrow, I got some nice ones my pics don't do em justice

One morning when you have some time you should come out to the golf course with me and do some fishing it's right off the 95s exit so it's 5 or 10 mins from you
Czar has a head camera he is gonna start bringing out so now all these big fish and hooking alligator stories I post will be documented with proof lol

well since i started the last two, i might as well start a 3rd one
i think the rules will be the same, top 5 lengths win. i have no problem with ninjas jumping half way through with 5 fish that make us all roll into fetal position and suck thumbs LOL maybe a newcomer will keep us on our toes! the more people the better! sharing time of day, general location, lure is all fine with me, but not a necessity of course; some keep their cards closer to their chest and that's fine with me
in 3 days i'll fire up the August tournament...
until then, i have 3 days left to show AK-NJ1986 who boss is

I like the name of the club, what about Florida Bragging Club? I looked it up, Alex_bassman came up with the idea originally, I have not seen him post for a while but look how long his idea has been running for.
I tell you what August is going to be interesting. It's going to be HOT and water levels down here in the South are HIGH. Not the best of combo's.

Yea I like that Florida Bragging Club (round 4)
It would be cool if more people participated. I bet they secretly have the intention too but just haven't caught anything worth posting. I guarantee by spawn this competition will look like a mini bassmasters tournament ha.
Like you said Lou August is going to be rough!!! It was already too hot in July, and August is going to be hotter and the fishing tougher. But as usual it will make for a fun competition

210 that's the exit right after yours
And that one pond I told you about with the gate in a PM on old saiNT Augustine road is next to this little ghetto gas station.
But the gate has been locked ever since that one day I fished there and missed all of those big fish. Whenever I am by there I always check to see if the gate is locked or not.
Figures I find a nice spot that's close and that's ideal for how I like to fish and I can't regularly access it.

I was looking at some houses that way, I know that area pretty well. There are 3 there about 12-14 yrs old according to google earth. I know the two on the left(coming from 95) pretty good.
Yeah I only fished a few spots out that way. I fished this one pond that is on the road the Waffle House is on. There are two ponds one in the front by the road and one all the way in the back that you can not get too. It has an abandoned dock probably was someone's personal honey hole but it's impossible to get to. I never caught anything out there first time I took Czar there he pulled out 2 or 3 small ones. Then I fished the golf course ponds with tremendous success. And the publix complex on 210 there a community back there that I fished the one pond by the clubhouse. I caught a few biggest being 3. But I have seen some nice sized fish swimming around in there in the range of 7lbsOn 7/30/2013 at 4:42 AM, MCS said:I was looking at some houses that way, I know that area pretty well. Those frogs did sound interesting.... is there prize next month??? LOL

not sure what u mean by hollow body but i doubt these are its all soft plastic. these the only frogs i have ever used. i use a 2 or 3 size worm hook for them the bigger ones i have i would use a 4 or 5 size . you will love these im pretty sure of it
AK, those are not hollow body frogs, the frogs that BP10 is offering are like the zoom horny toads or rage toads. They are designed to be buzzed on top of the water. You will like them. The strikes are as vicious because the bass has to chase the frog down. If you don't like them, I will take them off your hands.

Lol yea I actually just picked up a pack of horny toads. I'm sure I will like them because that's how I like to fish the hollow body ones I use only difference is hollow floats when you stop it.

Have you ever use the double frog hooks on them? That's what I use for the hollow body soft plastic frogs that float.
But I'm excited to check them out if i win. How big are the bigger ones?

24"
22"

20"
20"

Nice total AK. You beat me out by a whole 10 inches. That's a hard one to beat. The fish are nice. Too bad they are so thin up there. Those bigger ones during the spawn would have been HUGE. Congrats, no one is posting pics that come close to you, unless a "ninja" comes out with a surprise which I am waiting for it to happen at one point or another, AK, looks like your the King of the hill, for July. Congrats.
Yea man the fish up here aren't as fat as they are in south fl they are just heavy.
well ak pm a address u want these sent too i highly doubt we get a ninja in here to take you over
I didn't measure any of these, but here are my pics for the month, so I could not "officially be the Ninja", but you guys take a look and tell me what you think, lol!
Biggest five went 7 1/2, 6 3/4, 6, 5 1/2, followed by a bunch in the low five range. All throughout the month.

Where were you fishing mainly to catch those monsters Okeechobee?
That first pic the spot looks ideal for frog/ top water, hence how you caught it
What were you using mostly?
And want to take me out on your boat sometime to the spots where you caught these fish I can pay my share lol

South Fla, I was curious when you were going to post. You and Mike. You guys are always posting very nice stuff. Those fish were nice and your boat is not to shabby either. AK, I know your heart stopped for a second. There are several FL guys on here, that if they were to participate in our friendly tourney and post their top 5 catches for the month, they would blow us away AK. South FLA, do you still have that sweet honey hole at the golf course?? Thought I forgot about that huh? That place is awesome. Too far for me but awesome none the less. Fortunately, the real "top dogs" are in real $$ tournaments.

Exactly why I don't worry about them they are 1 laughing at the fish we post and 2 are getting $100s and $1000s we are getting the occasional pack of frogs, which is greatly appreciated for someone who doesn't have to do that but does out of the kindness of their heart.
I see these pics of monster fish that these guys catch that make ours look like guppies lol. My boy is an example I take pics of fish even if they are like 2.5lbs lol he throws fish back that are 5 and 6 with no pic no nothing... Sheeeet not me lol.
That's what I truly enjoy about this site. There are so many levels of bass fisherman here interacting and many are so open to share and give suggestions. My fishing game has elevated tremendously since I starting participating.

They are my favorite. I t-rig them weighless or with a 1/16 bullet weight and a 3/0 or 4/0 hook. Either use a sweep retrieve with pause after the movement or a slow roll back to me, sometimes drag it too. I use Junebug red flake which the last time I was at Academy they didn't carry it. But I am sure any color would do well.

Biggest came from Okeechobee, on a Spro popping frog.
Most of the other fish were caught on either skinny dipper type baits and one came of a t-rig if I recall correctly.

Thanks for the kind words, it comes from having other eyes and ears on the water we fish that are willing to share information and getting out OFTEN. As far, as the golf course that had the best fishing EVER, no I no longer have access to the property since owner sold it. Top dogs may not necessarily be in money tournaments, lol. I know of plenty of guys that are too busy with life or guiding that they don't have time to enter in tournaments and can teach the tournament pros a thing or two. Nevertheless, it always amazes me how the top FLW and Bassmaster perform when they come.

I have reached the level that I appreciate being able to get away and fish regardless of outcome, since trips at least turn into learning experiences. My favorite thing to do now is get others on the fish and share in the moment with them, fishing is such a pure and fun sport it bonds all of us regardless of whether you are shore fisherman or the guy with the late model bass boat, its all fun and this forum is here to help enhance the experience.
South FLA, sorry to hear about your ex-honey hole. Last we spoke you did mention the possibility of your spot being taken over by another owner. That's unfortunate. You posted some nice videos and pics outta there I especially loved the frogging strikes.
Robert is a largemouth stud. Nice fish buddy.

I never made it out to the "honey hole" but I would guess even that place couldn't compete with the bite we had Sunday at Lox.

That sounds like a helluva outing!
I went out last night with Czar and our boy and I missed about 8 to 10 top water strikes and landed a 20". Missed and hooked some monsters! I was 1-10 because I lose focus when I fish or get distracted and it seems like the fish know that. Our buddy caught a 9lb, I wasn't there it was him and czar fishing then, and he caught a 5 and 6. He takes the 5 and is like nah this isn't a picture fish me and czar laugh cuz to us that's a multiple picture fish lol. Then when he caught the 6 he was like I guess this can count as a picture fish. He said he might come back to this site and join the competition.
I went out this morning and caught 2, 19" and a few smaller ones I didn't measure. Same thing as last night I missed a bunch of strikes. I was fishing my golf course pond on te residential side and someone called the cops. So this female cop comes and I ask her if I have to leave she's like there are no signs that say no fishing, you don't have to leave people think they own the lake. Thought to myself is she a member of bassresource? Then she asks if I catch anything here I showed her pics and she was surprised. Told me good luck and have a nice day and she left.
