fishing user avatarclayton86 reply :

So I got a killer deal on a citica at dicks I picked it up for 44.99 brand new. I spooled it with some 17lb flouro threw a 1/4oz tungsten weight a 6mm force bead then a 4/0 worm hook and a rage craw in watermelon red. It was also on a POS tec spec that the tip broke off of years ago. Well I went out to our secrete pond and was fliping with it and omg soooooooo nice caught a few(5) one big gal bout 5lbs the rest were 2s and 3s. I picked up the revo on veritas and threw a jig a little bit just to put it down and throw the citica for the rest of the day. So now I'm gonna try to run back to dicks and see if the sales still going on because curados e5 and 7 were on sale for $60

fishing user avatartomustang reply :

Those are good deals, considering my local DSG never clearances anything but old lures

Pay days Friday hopefully the sale is still going on this weekend to all clearance items ending in .97 or .93 were an additional 50% off that ment my citica was 50 with an additional 10% cuz it was display. Curados were 120 then 50% off revo sx was 130 with 50% off but revos were outa stock. I didn't even look at rods

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

I might have to check that out.....payday was today, LOL.

fishing user avatarclayton86 reply :

I would have never known of the sale if I wasn't on there mailing list from having a score card. I went in and only seen signs for 20% off everything in stock so I asked bout the 50% off clearance items so they rang up the tungsten and confirmed it so I bought them and the citica. He said he had like 3 curados left but I didn't feel like pushing my luck with the wife I'm glad I got the citica but if its still on sale like that Friday Ill do what ever it takes to buy a curado or revo lol

fishing user avatarDan: reply :

Yep, the older model Shimanos are being cleared out since Shimano is replacing them. Being on clearance gives them a .97 cent ending. Right now my store is having an additional 50% off clearance tackle and it seems other stores are as well. If your local store doesn't have any of the clearance reels, ask an associate if they can call another store in their district to get one transferred.

Long ways from home isn't it? Arnt u in perry I figured greece or henrietta would be closer. The galleria dsg is by far the best one in wny.

It's about the same distance to the Walden Galleria as it is to Marketplace in Henrietta, 50 miles give or take a few. I agree the Galleria Dick's is the best, and the Tonawanda GM is much better than the Henrietta one too. Thats why I tend to go that way more often.

fishing user avatarOHIO reply :

My DSG doesn't carry a reel over $60. They are all garbage.

The sale isn't online either so I'm SOL.

I picked up a stradic 4000 fi @ Dicks a few weeks ago for $105, last one they had, I couldn't pass the deal up. I did go in with the intention of buying a penn conquer 4000 for $200, the stradic is a great reel but it for sure is not a conquer, best $200 and under reel I have ever used, I have a 7000.

Same goes for the gander mountain in tondawanda compaired to the one in roc its like apples and oranges and they always have good deals like true tungsten jigs are half off so like 3.50 a jig.

The Shimanos should not be full price. You should go back and ask the associate to verify the price for you.The displayed price probably does not match the actual current price in the system. Sometimes the prices drop without the employees knowing it so the old signs stay up until someone happens to find the mistake.

I took the display model for an additional 10% off I don't mind taking the display models if there in the glass case so people don't mess with them. I passed up the lures cuz wifey said lures and no reel or reel and no lures. I was only saving a few bucks on lures compaired to what $75 off the asking price of a citica. I need a diffrent rod for it hopfully some good rods are on sale.

fishing user avatarhookingem reply :

I really don't understand how Dick's can sell these reels for such a cut rate. I know they get the reels cheaper than we do at the small tackle shop I work at, but still!? We get them for 122$ so IMO they are losing a pretty significant chunk of change on each reel.

It's a huge chain, that's how. I doubt their fishing section is their high revenue section as well.

Shimano sells their products for the same price no matter how big the chain is or how much they buy, except places like bass pro, dicks and cabelas skip the middle man and buy direct from Shimano.

If Big Rock Sports(wholesaler) sells the Curado 200E7 for $110 to small tackle shops, you can take roughly 20% off that price and that's what direct buyers pay from Shimano.

Dick's is probably selling these at a slight loss but when you make 200-500% on underarmour and nike clothing it's easy to handle that.

I work for a big rock sports distributor, and they are 122$. So let's say they get them for 100$ Which I actually bet they pay more because BassPro doesn't even offer any discounts on Shimano during their reel trade in. I have receipts for 2 Curado's that I only paid 64$ for before taxes. So they lost 36$ per reel (probably more) just seems kinda dumb.....

fishing user avatarFat-G reply :

It's workin for you though haha

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

Guys, I ran retail stores for ten years. You can't look at it in that granular, one unit way. You buy pallet of reels. It takes 2/3 of that pallet before you realize profit on that pallet. After that, it's all profit. So, if you're down to your last 100 reels on that pallet, it doesn't matter what you sell them for, you are making money. The longer those last reels take up space, the less they are worth to you. Especially when there is a new product waiting in the wings for you to play the same game with again. ;)

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

I tried to get a screaming deal on Citicas, but the manager wouldn't honor my $40 off purchases of $200 or more. If you're interested, I have one more Curado, and two Citicas left. See the Flea Market for details.

fishing user avatarendless reply :

Man oh man I should have check this earlier I was gone though. Wow I thought J Francho was talking about Citica yesterday for $80. Well I joined the posse today today. I had to settle for the $139 deal on a Curado. I got the 200E5 for cranking. The 5.0:1 ratio. I also got a Crucial for $119 CRC-C70M, 7' M-MF. I went to BPS and Green Top, purchased at Green Top. I didn't check with Gander Mountain not sure if would have been cheaper anyways and didn't bother with the Dick's up that way. Figure Hookingem done rob them blind, lol.

How good is that rod for cranking and deep cranking?

For deep too? My wife is very upset that I spent that much but I been wanting a Curado for awhile now and Crucial has a nice buzz. What size line should I use? I might have a lil Trilene 10# flouro left that I can use for now. All my 12# and 14# looks to low.

I think I might have enough 12# Yo-zuri Hybrid. Out of the two? Both clear. Sorry Clayton to hijack your thread, I just didn't want to create a new topic on the same subject.

Both are fine, and you'll be fine with that rod for everything up to about a DT14. You're not going to want to throw DD22 and DT16-20 on it. It just won't have enough power. That's a GREAT rod for Warts, Shad Raps, Deep Little N, DBN, and Little John MD. The E5 will help with the fatigue aspect, too.

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

Like hooligan said, super deep, probably not. But for baits up to 3/4 oz. you should be fine. I use 10 and 12# Trilene 100% Fluoro, or P-line CXX 10# for all my treble hooked baits that aren't swimbaits.

I have both of those rods, and while I'm sure they will work, neither have soft enough tips for treble hooks IMO. A MF would be a better choice, even if it is overloaded a bit. Just my humble opinion.

No bull I wasn't a fan of either Citica or Curado when messing with them in store on that short handle rod rod thing but when I cast my curado 200E5 yesterday at the pond I was fishing, I was amazed how smoothed the Curado really was. I'm with anyone that says take the reeol your looking and place on a rod at store or whatever. There is a BIG difference there!

Hate to say it but I agree I like the citica better but for fighting fish I haven't backlashed with either though really. I like the handle on the citica better then the short stuby swept handle on the revo.

I'm guess it's just depending on your Dick Sporting Goods store. Some of our VA store didn't even do the sale. Maybe PM J Francho and maybe he will let you know when and if he can gets any more Citica or Curado. Other than that You might either have to keep checking different stores out or call them. Good luck on finding what your looking for.

Is this sale over now?

I believe so but I will double check tomorrow.

fishing user avatarCFFF 1.5 reply :

I went to my local dicks at lunch today and the sale was still going on although the citicas and curados were on sale they weren't part of the additional 50% off sale even though they were marked as a .97 sale price. I did get some tru tungsten weights for $2 per pack though.

Same here at the one my brother tried.

fishing user avatarDan: reply :

Let me ask you guys this; when you say the reels weren't an additional 50% off, is that based on the price for which they rang up at the register or just based on the sign on the reel?

fishing user avatarj.bruno reply :

Sign said on sale $99.99 Citica rang up for $49.99 . The one i got was in the glass display case because that was the only lefty they had left. I got another 10% off mine for that reason.

fishing user avatartomustang reply :

They are being discontinued, they won't be advertised for that price. It will only show up when scanned

I went off what my brother told me. He said the clerk told him they was not on sale there. I guess he figure the clerk should know. So I went to Green Top and settle for $139 on the Curado. I figure still even at the price was a heck of deal.

I might have to tell my brother just see again and go up and have it scan to see.

fishing user avatarclayton86 reply :

I hade the clerk double check with the portable scanner because mine was marked 99.97 and I wanted to be certain befor going up and looking like an idiot.

They won't advertise them in sales circulars but the sign on the reel in the display case will show the current price (the one that ends in the .97) and then there SHOULD be a sign near the reels advertising additional 50% off clearance tackle.

I'll check the prices tomorrow to see if the 50% off clearance is still going on.

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

I had to argue with the store manager. He said reels weren't "tackle," LOL. I asked him if he wanted to be the one to make the sale, or his district manager. He chose the former.

fishing user avatarhookingem reply :

Here's one of the 4 dicks I raided 3 curado's for 194.19 so 64.67 a piece   Also check out the total savings at the bottom of the recipt kinda hard to see but 264.97..... :D :D :D :D photo1.jpg

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

Mine wouldn't honor the $40 off coupon. That's like $65 a reel - nice deal!

fishing user avatarCFFF 1.5 reply :

At my store they only had the display model Citica and Curado. The clerk took the Citica into the back and I assume he scanned it with the hand held scanner. He told me they were not part of the 50% off all clearance tackle even though they were marked at $99.97 and $139.97. I even told him that I had heard online that a lot of the Dick's stores had these reels on clearance for around $50. He told me that only tackle was part of the 50% off clearance tackle.

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

And a reel is not tackle? LOL. I had that debate, and won.

fishing user avatarCFFF 1.5 reply :

I may have been able to argue and win but I don't use left hand reels anyway so it wasn't a big deal.

Are the computer sale prices set per store or are they set by the headquarters?

fishing user avatarDan: reply :

Scanned a Stradic today. It rang up as clearance and currently an additional 50% off so end price was like $69 or something like that. Checked the Curados, same deal (50% off clearance price)

The prices are set by corporate but I have been unable to ascertain whether or not they are universal across the country or if the vary by region or even district.

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

Here's the problem.....there are misinformed managers, and 1/2 the time, items do not ring up properly at the register when I shop at any of my three local Dick's. What's funny, the reels in one location are locked in a storage cabinet in a side room, and not on display. I asked the manager how he expected to sell them. He said they don't sell many anyway. Gee, I wonder why? I asked him why he was being so protective of discontinued product. I managed to get their entire inventory, but it was a freaking battle, and I got the feeling I not welcome at their store. Yes, I relayed this experience through the "Contact us" link on the site, so not really complaining here, just explaining how I got the deal that others received.

fishing user avatartomustang reply :

Sounds like the store employees are BS'ing customers so they could buy them when you guys leave

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

You would have thought, but I 1st bought two, one for myself, and one to sell. When I got in the next morning, I had much more demand than I had anticipated, so I went back two days later, and they were all there.

fishing user avatarclayton86 reply :

The email I got telling me bout the sale said rods and reels were included

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

I wish I got that email. Would have loved to had it to show the manager. He basically whisked me out the door, he was so PO'd. Too funny.

fishing user avatarclayton86 reply :

What's ur email I'll forward it I have it right on my phone incase they said the same thing to me I could show him but he was good about it and even pointed out other things on sale like line and other lures like rage thumpers

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

I won't be back, I got what wanted, LOL. No more Greece location for me.

fishing user avatarclayton86 reply :

The manager at greece well he's what the store is called at least the bald guy me and him got into last year I threatned to rip him over the counter and show him a thing or two lol. He was treating my wife like crap about looking at a gun and I was in a diffrent isle he didn't know we were together. Now when I go if he's there I just avoid that section or if I need assistance I ask for some one diffrent.

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

OK, so it wasn't all me, LOL. That's the guy.

fishing user avatarclayton86 reply :

Yup my wife HATES him she flipps soon as she sees him

The prices at the register are correct. The discrepancies are caused by the signage not being updated/changed which is generally due to poor staffing or laziness.

All reels above a certain price point must be locked up as per company policy. The way the system is INTENDED to work is to have people ask the associate to see the display reel, then have the associate go get a new reel from the backroom when the customer decides to make the purchase. If they didn't have one of each reel on display then they were either hiding them for themselves* or behind the ball. Another possibility is that they didn't have room and wanted to display reels that are hot sellers. I sell probably 25-30 sub-$50 reels for every 1 over $50 reel.

*They may hide the reels for themselves and keep them in a back room without purchasing them while they wait for the prices to continue dropping. Once something receives a .97 ending the price periodically drops until it is sold. If it's in the back room, eventually they can get it for super cheap. Obviously that's not an accepted practice but I'm sure it does happen.

fishing user avatarmaineman reply :

Went to Dick,s today for the curado. The price in the glass case said 179.99, no .97 so there is no way i thought the curado was on sale. I asked one of the clerks if the curado was on sale like i had seen on the internet. He scanned the reel and asked what i had seen for a price on the internet. I said 75.00 dollars and that that is what it rang up for! Sweet deal!!!!

fishing user avatarDiggy reply :

Im dumb late but Im going to take a trip over there

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

They rang up at the register initially for $149.97. The cashier did a manual override.

Hayden why do you flame on Shimano stuff so much now? Curado's rule! You set them once and forget about. oh yea find me a Diawa that can even come close to a Curado in performance for 65$.

fishing user avatarFat-G reply :

I'm just joking man my 50e is a good reel. We caught 4 tonight one was 9.5

fishing user avatarMAD reply :

A Curado 201E7 followed me home today to join a Citica 201D and a Curado 301DSV to form my own little Shimano posse. $61.97 was the total. I love my round Abus, but the first time I casted my Citica, I backlashed soooo badly. I never expected a reel to rocket a lure like that.

Mike

fishing user avatarDiablos reply :

I am a believer now. I have seen the light. I finally tried out my Citica and Curado and they are both awesome. I own Abu Revo SX's and Lew's and both Shimanos feel much more solid. The sound they make when the spool is spinning after a cast is almost musical.

is the sale at dicks going on for still? if so when does it end? im in toronto but it wouldnt be the first time i drove to the walden galleria in buffalo for fishing stuff.

They were almost out of reels when I was there at least baitcasters all they had left was a few curados and that was over 2 weeks ago. Gander mountain in North tondawanda has a lot of sales going on though also and there only 10mintes apart.

fishing user avatarFourCorners reply :

Just picked up a Curado E7 for $75 in Charlotte so there's still a few floating around. I believe there were one or two left along with a few stradics. The employee had no idea the reels were on clearance and the fishing department seemed pretty sparse. Granted, there's a Bass Pro 10 minutes away so it may be hard to compete with that...

fishing user avatarguitarkid reply :

I used my new curado today, I have joined the she-man-o posse.
