What was your first bass of 2014 caught on?
Mine was Z man chatterbait (white color) on a Powell Max 703 Glass with a 6.4:1 lews tourney pro!
I caught a lamp post. New Sol pitches a long way. I had a good size snowbank on but she threw the hook.
I want to say it was on a green pepper Scum frog on a Powell "Caolina Lizard Dragger" rod.
7.1 PQ with 30# PP only because I always start with that set up.
Mike
2 pound tree bass
Dobyns DX 745
Daiwa t3
20# fluoro
1/2 oz brush jig pitched off my back deck to an isolated stump. Once she bit it was either go get her through the snow or wrestle it out not wanting to spook anything else around. I won this war.
Open water cannot come soon enough, seriously.
Sounds like someone from AZ hasn't seen the snow and ice that covers a lot of this nations water still...
Pinnacle ML rod with a Stradic ci4 2500.
Drop shot roboworm, with vmc spinshot hook.
Jeff
Xcalibur XR50 in Royal Shad. Thrown with a Daiwa Tatula on a Duckett Ghost 6'10" M with 14lb Sufix Elite.
RC Stx jerkbait in ghost pearl.. Thats the only thing they will eat yet. Was out yesterday, water temp was a mere 38 degrees and ended with 4 bass, 5 HUGE 16" shad and a perch I snagged right up it's backside
3 inch shiner fished 10 feet under 16 inches of ice over 30 feet of water on a Jack trap tip up.
1/2oz dirty jig with a rage craw trailer, fished on a 6'8" mhxf cumara with a lews sst with power pro braid.

Caught a 4.8 plush carpet. Was work in around the couch with a 1/2 jig on a 7ft c arbonlite with a lews tournament. Pitched in between the coffee table and couch. She hit it as soon as it entered. Fought her for about 5 min then a largemouth labradoodle came out of nowhere to try and steal my trophy. Had to scare it away with loud yelping noises and baconstrips.

At last you're using good equipment, I knew you would come around.
Have no idea what I caught it on, where I caught it, how big it was, what rod and reel. I do know what I caught my last one on, Thursday afternoon about a 5 pounder on a ml supreme 30 using a crappie jig.

Gen 2 Revo 6.4:1 with 50lb braid and a 7'2 MH XF Shimano Crucial
Very first time trying to flip and pitch, i caught my cat. Luckily I cut the hook off my jig. Practicing flipping and pitching in the house is much more fun when you have a cat. She enjoys it and so do I. It may not be a bass but I brought her all the way back and was able to scoop her up. A solid 22 pounder!
Tip-up

Off topic: Excited for weather in the low 30's for the next 3-4 days?
Hey guys just joined today first bass this year on a 7'1" m/f *** black with a lews tournament mg on a watermelon red flake baby brush hog Texas rigged with a 1/4 oz tungsten weight
Don't recall. Probably one of my spinning setups, either with a Stradic, or the Lexa.
Then again, it might've been on a casting rig, either my Chronarch, or Lexa.
I've caught a few this year so far, and the outings have been somewhat far apart from each other, so I just don't recall fully.

First fish of 2014, geez that was a while ago, like Jan. 3rd. Caught on a Nautilus FW7 on a Redington Predator throwing a EP Bluegill on a Wulf 7TT line.
Oh man, I must have misread this thread... I. Thought I said what was your first bass caught on... Not your first first this year.... Haha my answer was Idk..an ugly stick maybe... Lol
This year I think it was dropshot fish on a Powell spinning rod.
26" ice rod, Zebco UL4 classic reel, 2 lb flouro, #10 tungsten jig/plastic tail.
Frabill sub zero ice rod and reel! 2 Lmb through the ice on Black Lake. They both ate a little jigging spoon tipped with maggots...winter needs to go away soon.
Fishing? We're still fishing for ice cube fish here. It's tearing up my lines. The ice is still up to the shoreline solid. The bass coming out of there mud bed and winters sleep maybe late this year. I'm going trout fishing so I can feed my six adopted cats. I take in unwanted abandoned cats. I find little kittens when fishing.
The oil man just came. Not much new fishing stuff this year. I thank God I had the money to fill the oil tank. I burn wood 100% but this year I let the furnace run a little due to my health. From what the oil man said many people aren't filling there oil tanks. The depression/recession is still here.

Just went out for the first time this year to a small local pond, I didn't expect to catch anything but caught this little guy on my first time using a senko.
Caught on:
Damiki Angel EX 6'6" Light
Lews Speed Spin with 6lb Flouro
Wacky rigged watermelon with black flake senko
Mega strike Mega Bug in Green Pumpkin / red.
Thumped a nice little two and a half pounder with the head of a four pounder. Poor guy was starvin' like Marvin.
And before anyone says anything, that is not the ONLY reason I caught that fish.
FInally get to post on this, I keep seeing it and get frustrated since the weather has been terrible. Anyway, Used my new Revo S and 7' MH Veritas, throwing a Watermelon Red Baby Brush Hog

Caught 6 in 20 minutes about 5-6 weeks ago (best start I've ever had in KS this time of year), and then busted off the only worm I brought like it. Only caught 1 the next 40 minutes.
I was drop shotting with a 16inch lead vertically below a dock in about 15 feet of lightly stained water. I was using a small 4" stik-o from BPS. I find the smaller stik-o's to be much softer than the 5" version. I had 10lb fireline on an old rapala spinning combo and a 6lb berkley vanish fluoro leader.
Vision 110 in Elegy Bone using a MB XX Flat Side Special with a Curado 200 I HG and 30lb SX1. Caught three bass and one trout that day. Wasn't trying for the trout, but it was a pretty nice rainbow.

Sunday, April 6th was my first day out on the water. Ice prevented me from going earlier. I caught my first bass of season on a chrome/blue/orange belly 4.5" Xcalibur XS4 jerkbait in about 7-10' of water. I was using my 6.3:1 Quantum Energy PT casting reel spooled with 12lb Seaguar Invizx and my 6'6" M/F Quantum Tour Edition Gerald Swindle Signature edition casting rod. The bass weighed 4.10lbs

This winter has been so long and cold. I'm so happy to finally be able to answer this question. My first bass of 2014 was caught on my newest setup. A 6'10 M/MF Shimano Xpride paired with a Chronarch 50E. I was using a Pointer 100. Only about 2-2.5 but d**n it felt good.
7' MHF St. Croix SCV custom with a Shimano Chronarch CI4+. Watermelon red RI Sweet Beaver tx rigged.
I caught mine on a Megabass vision 110
Well I finally caught my first bass of the year on Sunday. Cashion 6'9 rod and a daiwa reel. Throwing a megastrike strike back spinnerbait.
Still waiting for bass season to start (another 2 months roughly), but I will give you my prediction that I will catch it on my Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth (Spinning 6'9" M/XF) using a Pearl White Super Fluke. Guaranteed.
First bass of the season was caugh on a RodTech 7'3" MH/F custom rod, Daiwa Aggrest 7.3:1 with 15# Cabelas X50 Flouro. The fish hit a Rock Hard Tackle jig with a Lockett Lures Outlet trailer in about 7-8ft of water. The fish weighed 2lbs and was 15.75" in length which was 1/4" short for the 16" tournament limit.
Back in Febrary- 1.35 pounds on a 1/8 oz Buckeye spot remover shakey head and a watermelon chart. tail Zoom finesse worm. My setup was a Daiwa T3 Ballistic 6.3:1 on a Shimano Crucial 7'2" M Worm & Jig rod spooled with 10 pound Sufix Seige mono. Thrown around submerged stumps.

How do you like the Cashion rods? I was thinking about getting one to try because I would much rather buy nice rods that are built in the U.S. than China (or even Japan)

It's lightweight and balances out well. The sensitivity was there as well. It's rated a bit generous for lure specs but it's action and power are accurate. I like the look of the carbon fiber and it's not uncomfortable to fish with at all. I spoke with the owner of the company a few times before ordering. He was nice to talk to and didn't try to sell me on anything. Just answered my questions and gave me some info along the way.

Loving my new lews and the war eagle spinnerbait. Forget what its called, has the size of a 1/4 spinnerbait but weighs 1/2 oz. Thing casts like a bullet, slow roll it, burn it. I love spinnerbaits and im glad I finally picked up a few of these.
Ice fishing.....................24" UL Abu Garcia Veritas Ice combo, 3lb Power Pro braid, 2lb Seaguar Abrasx-ice fluoro. #14 Northland Gill-Getter (grasshopper) tipped with a wacky rigged 1" Northland mini round worm in glo-watermelon. I probably caught 25-30 LMB this winter ice fishing the farm pond with this set up, most were dinks, but a few small keepers, and a couple over 2lbs, and one 3 lber.
Open water.....................have not been out yet, ice just left, but winter is back for a few days, maybe by the end of the week.

should have put in January as well. Great thing about S. Cal, year round bass fishing. I don't think I'd do snow and ice very well since I don't like to be cold.

What rainshadow blank is your custom built on? I have abt 15 custom builds on rainshadows, all of mine are RX7 and the new Revelation blanks. I have used the RX8 and the RX8+ tho. The RX8+ is ridiculously light and sensitive, but that is also reflected in the price of the blank. The RX8+ I used was a 7' MH/Fast and came in under 3 oz with guides, reel seat, etc. Also, my first fish of 2014 came on a Powell Endurance 674 and a Lews Super Duty. Skipped a 3/8 oz jig I made up under a dock for a 3 lb. smallie on New Years day.
