Fellow Fisherman,
Almost all Avids, Legend Tournament and Legend Elites are 40% off at Reeds. I, along with a handful of other BassResource.com members, have ordered from Reeds with great service.
I love a great deal!!!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D

Well looks like ill be getting a new rod , this will be the first quality rod I have ever owned. I'm looking at the AS68MXF , AS70MF , and the AS70MHF..... I dont know much about rods , anyone think they can give me an opinion on wich would be best for the sought after "General purpose" rod, I dont throw cranks much because i fish from shore, but do like throwing soft plastics, jerkbaits , spinnerbaits, and all kinds of topwater, I do plan on learning jigs but need to pick some up first probably, with this rod. I fish ponds most of the time with a good amount of plantlife in them.
BTW I'll be paring it up with a Pflueger President 6740X if that makes any kind of difference.
Thanks for any help!
Can't beat those prices for such a quality rod. I'm a Kistler man myself, but at those prices I may jump on a few.
Dsaavedra, you wanted a good rod, here is an offer you better not pass up!!
Less than $100.00 and free shipping!!!
Wow time to sell some stuff on ebay cause I can't pass this up.
My name is Reed! It's like the bait monkey is launching a personal attack!

I would recommend the AS68MXF, perfect rod for what you like to throw. I have one already and am very pleased with it.

Note: This works so I deleted the other link.
Go get 'em! 8-)
You got to be kidding me. I can get a Legend Elite rod for about $180. Bait Monkey here I come .
I just bought the Legend Elite EC70MHF for $204. The Avids are $100 cheaper.
GREAT prices on some fine equipment.
p.s. No sales tax and FREE shipping!
Well, I just picked up the AS66MF and AS68MXF based on the other thread. Hopefully, this should cover all my fishing needs at this point.
How does the legend elite series compare to G.Loomis in terms of gl2, gl3, imx?
Welcome aboard!
The Legend Elite is St. Croix's answer to the G.Loomis GLX series. I have one (ES70MF) but it is from the first series (green), not the current models. The components and craftmanship are of equivalent quality and the blank is comparable. So, I have a GLX bias, but the St. Croix is at least on par with IMX rods.
Ah, already ordered one Avid and trying not to get another 3 or 4. I should be sending that link out for Christmas presents but the hunting monkey has a strangle hold on the baitmonkey right now.
would the AC70MHF be a good choice for fishing weightless worms and jigs? maybe a little pitching and flipping? Someone please say yes...
I will be ordering one momentarly. How fast is their shipping?
HEY GUYS! LISTEN UP!
I bought a EC70MHF this morning...NOW, it's NO LONGER on sale!
So...
Don't wait around too long if you're planning on buying something.
Whatever inventory they have on hand is all they're going to sell.
When it's gone...
It's gone!
Son of a gun ! a Leyend Elite for $180, holllly cow ! I wouldn 't bother purchasing it now even if I have to wait 3-4 months before I can go to MacAllen to pick it up, man at that price I wouldn 't mind waiting a year !
wow! i should probably go w/ an avid shouldnt i? how's the 7' MF?
i think i want a crankbait one for xmas
yessss, I have been waiting for them to put them on sale. Cant beat an elite 6'6casting for under 200.
kb here just ordered 2 AC-60MF $180.00 total no ship. man what a great time to up grade. well its a up grade for me i had premiers. and there is a lot of difference kb
I just picked up an AC66MHF. I really wanted the 610MHF or 70MHF, but for $102 I decided to settle. So much for the Crucial that I was planning of getting.
I just replaced 3 of my Premiers....yay!
OMG!!!! These Prices are NUTS!!!!!!
Dangit, I would like to order 3 or 4 of these, I guess I will have to settle for one. Why does all the good stuff go on sale around Xmas, and why do I have 4 kids to buy xmas presents for again. ;D
I just picked up the Legend Elite ES63MXF. Should work well for Shakey/weightless plastic and smaller jerkbaits.
Now I have to keep an eye open for this type of deal on the discontinued Stella. ;D ;D
FD
Thanks to Doug for the tip on this sale!!! I've got my first St. Croix's coming, a TCB Drop Shot and a TCB Big Cranker. Can't wait to try them. big
Just picked up a TBC70MHM. Now i need a reel.
Thats got to be the best deal of the year!!!!!!!
I wonder how many rods they really have? WE could all be ordering rods when they don't have anymore I am just hoping that I don't get the out-of-stock email.
Andy

Reed's has had these liquidation sales before. I think they may have a deal with St. Croix, otherwise they wouldn't stock so many or be able to discount the entire stock so dramatically. However, the Avids, or at least this series, are being discontiued. So, chances are, when they are out, that's it!
Right now I'm fishing almost all Falcon Cara's and Lowriders. Does anyone have any experience as to how these St. Croix's compare? I'm thinking about getting a few more. big
WOW!
When you visit Reed's site today you're going to be amazed at how many rods have already sold out or have been removed from the sale. I suppose they hold a few back and try to get full price for them, but MAN!, that deal is hot.
well you better think less and act quicker if you plan on getting one...
Wow. I was perusing Reeds and the rods I ordered yesterday are no longer on sale. Glad the bait monkey took over yesterday and pushed the buy button when it had a chance.
i hear ya
They don't mess around!
I just bought an Avid Spinning Rod AS69MLXF for $96 ... 15 minutes after I ordered it and got my confirmation, went back and they had taken the sale off and they are now $160. 15 minutes saved me almost $70!!
Act fast!
Quotewell you better think less and act quicker if you plan on getting one...
tell me about it! yesterday i snatched up an AC66MM crankbait rod and an AC70MF plastics rod both for 96 bucks now they are 160!!! glad i decided to order last night!
Wow. Those rods sold FAST. Looks like most of the avids are back to regular price. Glad I purchased when I did. ;D
yeah my dad was uneasy about ordering them for me online cuz he thought i was rushing into it, and i kept trying to tell him "these rods wont be here tomorrow" lol looks like i was right!
I talked to Reed's today to check on my order, they had 46 rods to pull at the time. They told me they are in negotiations with St.Croix to purchase ALL remaining Avids, upwards of 800-1000. They are all going on sale till they are gone!
All,
I just added a TBC70HF to the arsenal. Also, to add to previous posts, the sales person I spoke with said, as the rods came in, they would be adding more to the sale soon. Sounds like you can keep an eye out for more rods to be available soon (no time frame provided or estimate of when the rods would be available).
QuoteI talked to Reed's today to check on my order, they had 46 rods to pull at the time. They told me they are in negotiations with St.Croix to purchase ALL remaining Avids, upwards of 800-1000. They are all going on sale till they are gone!
Is this bad news or good news.
I just checked the site and it appears that there is no longer free shipping. Or did i just miss something. I added a rod and did calculate shipping and it comes up 10.95.
If you continue to check out, it will say 'the item(s) you have selected do not have shipping.
They changed the sale on St.Croix..... They were 40% off for avids, now you have to buy 3 to get 40% off.Just one rod is 20% off. Also the Elites were $198. now they are showing for $260? Glad I got in Tuesday on the Elite series. Anyone else notice the price change? I double checked my email to look at the invoice and the elite series were $198. Might have been an error on the website?
Those rods should be coming soon. Shipping says 3-8 business days!
Yep. I think the sale is over! They are now only 20% off unless you buy 3 or more. Oh boy, I'm glad I didn't wait, the rod I purchased isn't even available anymore!
I would say that they under estimated the shipping cost on shipping single rods and found it was cutting to deeply into the profit margin. I glad I got to cherry pick the four Avids I bought...two at Dicks for $80 and the other two at BPS for $112. I am kinda sad that I did resale one to a work buddy at my cost...but he takes me out fishing on his Ranger 185VS so I guess its all good.
As a builder, who builds exclusively on St.Croix blanks, I am in constant contact with my blank supplier, and St. Croix direct. 2 weeks ago I was told by staff at the factory that all of the avid rods were gone and the new Avids (IPC and new paint job), and LE/LT's (same same except for the split grips), were coming on line.QuoteI talked to Reed's today to check on my order, they had 46 rods to pull at the time. So if any on-line shops make a deal with St.Croix it isn't for the top movers in the Avid line IE. MF, MXF, MHF, etc..
But I did find out that they are holding a heavy stock of the top moving blanks for custom build component distribution.
Just my .02¢

hey rw kb here i just looked at reeds and they must have sold out on the baitcasting rods i have two coming boy you were right they did not last long kb thanks for the info
so glad i jumped on this. i looked and the more "popular" avid rods (6'6" MF, 7' MF etc.) rods were full price and no free shipping.
i just called reeds to find out if my order went through and they told me i got the last ac70mhf that they had... he said it should be at my house on monday.... i'm so excited 8-)
Anyone receive any updates on their order via email, phone or anything?
I'm reallllly hoping my order went through.
I looked tonight and they had buy 3 rods for 40% off which would come out to about the sale price and free shipping.
QuoteAnyone receive any updates on their order via email, phone or anything?I'm reallllly hoping my order went through.
I received an invoice and e-mail confirmation within fifteen minutes of placing my order. Check your in box, if you didn't receive an e-mail from Reed's, you better check with them.
i recieved an order confirmation but i never got a tracking/shipping confirmation.
I also recieved an order confirmation, but no shipping confirmation. I called them and they said they still had some of the rod that I ordered so it should have been filled. He didn't seem very enthusiastic to actually pull up my order and look at it.
ahhh, ok thanks guys, glad i'm not the only one. Anxious to try them out =D
My new Avids have arrived! right at my door step =D CAN'T WAIT TO TRY them out!
price tag on one of them says 170...I paid 180...I feel like I just stole a cookie from the cookie jar =D

Just received my St.Croix Legend Elite EC70MHF.
Man, she's a beauty! 8-)
MY TWO AVIDS CAME TODAY!!!!
but im not allowed to see one till christmas (gift from my parents)
but the one i bought is AWESOME!!!! the contored handle is so comfortable. i wuv it cant wait to try it out.
YEAH!!! My St. Croix Legend Came in today!!!! Took only 5 days (also had a weekend in there) from the time I placed the order until this wonderful rod was sitting at my door! Very impressed with Reed's Sporting Goods!!!
I got my two rods as well!
I have a question. I saw in the St. Croix catalog that they recommend topwaters for their LTBC68MXF rod. I purchased both an AS66MF and AS68MXF. Which of these rods would you recommend to use topwater lures.
I think i just found my first loomis rod i want now... :-/
Now comes the challenge of saving up $125 before spring...
Hey guys I just recieved in the mail my first st crox rod. LEGEND ELITE ES70MF !!!!
The sale was too good to be true and I wanted to see which rods are better personally. gloomis or st croix. RW talks about this rod so much I had to try it myself.
I do have a question for you guys, did any of you have rods that are damage? When I took my rod out of the tube I noticed the Handle (really beautiful btw) has a scratch on it. I called them but the customer service was busy so I left my phone #. What should I ask them to do? replace it or what? What if they dont have any more?I dont think it will effect the performance just that its an eyesore and the fact that this is my new rod i would like it to be flawless or atleast scratchless before I even use it.
My AS68MXF and AC68MXF arrived today....I can't wait. I am hoping Santa will bring a couple of nice reels that will do the rods justice:)

I kinda have the same problem, my medium moderate action crankbait rod has cracks right below the tip...I'm not sure what to do either, get them to replace it? Sounds like I should do that but if it doesn't impact the performance should I bother?
suggestions :-/ ?
I talked to Reeds today and they said it should be here today via Speedee...no rod although I was not home after 3pm so I am not sure of their delivery process. Either way I could not fish it for a while(3 inches of snow today) but am anxious to get what I paid for and see how nice it is compared to me Premiers.
Which three or four Avid rods would you recommend to cover most fishing condition the AS68MXF being one of them.
Thanks,

I have two Avids and one Premier that look just like that. I seen it when I bought them and I didn't think it would affect anything. I'm no rod builder but it looks like the epoxy shrunk when it dried...??

AC66MF
This rod is Fast Action, but has a soft tip. I recommend the rod for spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, topwater and jerkbaits. It is one of my favorites.
AC70MM
Medium Power/ Moderate Action. This is the perfect rod for most crankbaits (not big, deep divers however). This rod can also be used to fish other "treble hook" lures.

All,
As an FYI for those that may purchase additional rods during this sale:
I took a very close look at the rod I received and noticed many scratches and locations where the paint has flaked off. This damage appears to be cosmetic only and should not affect the use of the rod. The only problem is, I wanted to be the one to put the first big scratch on my $150.00 dollar rod.... Not sure what I am going to do. >

Return the rod for refund or replacement. My dealings with Reed's have been perfect in every way. I am sure they will take care of you. On top of that, you have St. Croix as a back-up. Both companies I believe will live up to their reputations for "100% Customer Satisfaction".
Called Reed's this afternoon after breaking ice all morning to duck hunt and asked where my rod was. They told me that it was delivered Tuesday and signed for by a Pete Ashley. Hmmm, I never saw the delivery guy and was home most of the day, I live in a town of 101 people and know no one by that name. Not sure what happened but I spoke to Reeds Wednesday and they told me it should be here Wednesday so I am a little confused but either way they said another one would be shipped out first thing MOnday morning and offered to overnight it. I appreciated their service and the guy never questioned me once about receving the rod so I told them to save their money and just ship it standard. Even though I would like to play with my rod this weekend they are taking care of me although I am still a little perplexed on where the rod is and who signed for it.

SimonSays,twors,
I took a close look at your pics on my machine..
What happened is the finish that is covering part of the tiptop's tube, got hot enough quick enough to soften the epoxy used to attached the tiptop, and, it slipped before the finish cured..
I can't say as to whether or not it will cause the tip to fail, the only way to fix it is, to heat the tiptop's tube enough to soften the epoxy again so you could press the tip back down into place...
Good Luck & Tight Lines!!

Well, for me it's a Legend Elite EC70MF, but I would still recommend the AC68MXF for soft plastics. Deep diving crankbaits require a different rod. For most treble hooks, the AC66MF (soft tip) will work, but if you want to be more technique specific, look to the AC70MM.
Hmm I thought my legend tournament would come by today. Guess I'll have to investigate.
I seen today that Reeds has 10% off reels when you buy a rod, including any leftover St Croix's.

FOR SALE: EC66MF...I bought this rod from the Reed's Sporting Goods sale before they took the Legend Elite's off due to a mistake in pricing. I got this rod shipped for around $210 with the shipping from them (original price was $320 plus shipping). I thought these rods had the split grips. I do not need another rod with a straight handle grip so someone else can benefit from this sale. I will sell the rod for $215 shipped to anywhere in the lower 48 so I don't lose out on the shipping. The rod comes with the original St. Croix rod sleeve and will be shipped in the same tube that was sent by Reed's. Again, I got this rod YESTERDAY in the mail and am selling it today. I hope someone will enjoy this rod!
*Please note, I did not get free shipping on this rod as I got it late in the sale and the free shipping already stopped.
After reading this thread and getting information from RoadWarrior and y'all, I ordered the four rods listed below. I just got off the phone with Reed's and checked UPS tracking. They were shipped out on November 23 (date ordered) and UPS tracking shows that they are on time and should be delivered tomorrow Nov. 29. I'm excited

RoadWarrior the other rod is an AC68MFX for Crankbait spinner baiting and buzz baits. What do you think?
I'm confused.
The AC70MM is for most treble hook lures.
The AC68MXF will be good for soft plastics and especially jigs.
The AC66MF is what I recommend for jerkbaits, buzzbaits and spinnerbaits.
Since I fish soft plastics on spinning tackle, the AS66MF is what I would use for those applications.
Since '68 my fishing life has involved fly fishing. We moved from California to Texas and I haven't found any fly clubs in my area. However, lakes Conroe, Livingston, Rayburn, and Toledo Bend are all within minutes or a couple of hours, and there are local tournament clubs in the area. So while I'm getting older fast, I am new to baitcasting and tournament bass fishing. This list has been great for helping me gain a lot of information in a short period of time. My thanks to all.
These are the rods I have coming, hopefully tomorrow.
The AS68MXF How will this rod work for the soft plastics
The AC68MXF soft plastics and especially jigs.
The AC66MF jerkbaits, buzzbaits and spinnerbaits.
The AC70MM most treble hook lures. So this rod will be for crankbaits?
Thanks.
The bait monkey slapped me into submission, went Christmas shopping early for myself ! Got a St Croix Avid Casting Rod AC66MF and a AC68MXF to add to my quiver (pictured) from Reeds Sporting Goods, spoke with Jeff at the fishing desk and he was great, even got my order out the door in time for trip up to Stick Marsh! I also ordered a Abu Revo Premier from ***, got to figure out which new rod to put it on ;D, will take recommendations. Was thinking it would be a great spinnerbait/horny toad reel on either of the two rods.
Can't wait to slay them next week.
Thanks fellow members for letting the bait monkey have his way with me and posting the big sale going on at Reeds.
Quiver info. from left to right (Shimano Citica 200D w/Shimano Clarus CSC-X66M (Topwater Rod), Shimano Scorpion 1000 w/ larger shimano handle on a G-Loomis Slate C722 Custom Blank (So Sweet, lightweight small softbait rod), Shimano Calcutta 200GTB MB w/an All Star ACWR2 6'6" (My hollow body frog rod, a real workhorse down here in S. As someone who tried fishing toads with an AC66MF earlier this year when I was in a pinch...do not do it. Not nearly enough backbone for toads, jigs or plastics.
The AC68MXF will do nicely for lighter or weightless plastics and jigs, but I think this guy is also too light for a toad rod.
Sorry for the bump but I just got a voicemail from Reed's. I ordered a TBC70MHM during the sale, and still had not received it last week. I shot them an email and was told it was shipped on the 15th. I just received a voice mail from Jeff, saying they and St. Croix were out of stock. He said he had the TWC70MHM in stock (walleye rod) and said as far as he could tell it was the same rod. It's rated for 1 1/2 - 3 oz, so obviously it's not the same rod? Anyways, I wanted some feedback/what I should expect before I gave him a call back. Sounds like they are willing to ship an equal value rod?

Yeah I already looked on their site and there are no IMX rods over 6 feet. What about the CBR series? Is it reasonable for me to expect an equal value rod even though I bought it on sale? The fact someone told me it was shipped already kind of makes me mad.
