What do y'all use?
My new ring knife from fishhound will be the tool this season. Thing is really sharp and comfortable. It surprisingly fit my very large fingers too.
Boomerang Tool snips. Better than scissors because they hold their edge.

I finally got one of these for this year. Hope its as good as it's talked up. Other than that, I use the BPS scissors. Cheap and they work.
Believe it or not the $1.89 Fiskar craft scissors work great and hold an edge. It's a rod builders tip I saw on line and it works.

Regular old scissors

Nice ... now I just need to sneak into my 6 year olds room and take her scissors. Daddy needs them.
Boomerang Snips also.
Boomerang Snips, got 2 of 'em, love 'em.
Also find that kids scissors at Walmart work well, too.

Yep.....
The cheap KVD split ring and braid cutter from walmart works well.
I use the Fiskars scissors the kids use in school. Cheap and small profile.

... and they come in so many colors!
Next time I am in Wally World I may need to pick up one.
I use my pocket knife. Those scissors sound interesting.
Kershaw 1840CKT. Rule #9 definitely applies, especially in fishing!
I now have a pair of boomerang snips, but before I just used sharp finger nail clippers.

Especially if you go fishing on a Sunday. You need to be able to cut your line if you catch the devil
I use P-line Split ring pliers. The line cutter on those bad boys are awesome!
fingernail clippers. Have not had an issue in many years doing this.

Never found anything better, not only is fast but puts a "bead" on the end, an aid in reducing pull thru.

Put off buying one because of the price...What a mistake, this tool is worth every penny just by the way it cuts braid.

You won't be disappointed. I was skeptical at first. I clip mine on a belt loop to have it handy when needed.

Exactly why I liked the idea. Plus mine has the LED light in it too. Not bad for $11.00
I also use the Boomerang tool snips.
And for the really big stuff . . . . . .

Boomerang Tool snips. I have 2 pairs, 1 with the light and 1 without the light.

I have tried a lot of ways to cut braid and still don't have a good solution. I am a long, long time fly tier and have tried several very good scissors. Finally serrated scissors cut braid very well but they dull in a season. I have the Boomerang but it will only cut if the line is under tension. I am disappointed in tis performance. They work OK but not the real answer. A electric line cutter works good but there is a delay waiting for it to heat. Nail clippers don't cut braid without a lot of effort. Wire cutters that are real sharp with perfectly matched blades might be the answer but the ones I have don't work any better than some of the other things I have tried.
I still haven't given up on serrated scissors or razor scissors. If I find the ultimate braid cutter I will let you know. Many of the methods listed by members in this forum I find to be less than satisfactory. I want a clean cut every time with out tension on the braid. Cheap scissors, the Boomerang or nail/toe clippers don't cut braid like I think they should.
Frank
I just use the split of my Rapala pliers. I give the pliers a nice tight squeeze and the braid is cut.
The best scissors I've found are the 5" Gerber straight cut model that you can find at Walmart for around $5. I got some 7-8 yrs ago and it's still cutting braid as good as the first day I used them. I HATE Gerber knives 'cause they are basically immune to sharpening but put the same steel in some scissors and you've got something!
Whatever is laying around on The boat, small braid scissors, titanium cutters on the fish pliers, leatherman multitool, nail clippers, machete in need be
I was using rapala braid scissors and they worked ok. Usually a good cut, sometimes it would fray a bit.
Last year I went to boomerang snips and they are the shizzle.

I am also a long time fly tier and I know what you mean. Sitting in my man cave at home, many times I will grab my "good" Dr. Slick's to snip some line I am working with. Always makes me cringe but they are handy when I'm by the bench.
However; my experience with the boomerang snips has been completely different from yours. Fast, clean cut every time.

Boomerang snip!

In the heat if the moment I've been known to bite thru 65lb braid
Fiskars kid scissors from Walmart. They even have this thing that slides over the blades though I throw them away.
Benchmade or Spyderco.

I have some weird brand of retractable scissors that my wife had -- they were for crafting, but she didn't like them. They didn't have enough precision, or something. But they sure cut through line well!
I have a few tools that I use and keep in my bag for various uses and I always carry a very sharp knife.
Aside from the knife, I use a pair of mini end nipper pliers, or a pair of surgical scissors that seem to never dull. Both work great at cutting knots.
That's a wide selection
Good old fingernail clippers that are attached to a retractable I.D. badge holder. It's fast and always attached to my belt. No need to look for it, it's attached at the hip always.
I also don't use too much braid, for frogs and punching only.
What do you use Catt?

a pair of cheap kobalt scissors that came as a freebie with a tool set I bought years ago.
I use the boomerang snips mine have a light on it for night fishing these things are perfect
Boonerang snips on the boat console, scissors & knife in tackle box, lighter in my pocket.

First time I've seen these Boomerang snips, they look nice. Fingernail clips attached to a retractable string are the original version, I guess The Boomerang gizmo looks cleaned-up, I like it. Quit smoking 10 years ago, so the lighter is gone too, thank goodness.
I have some BPS braid scissors that work well. But most of the time I just grab whatever knife I have in my pocket which is usually a Spyderco Delica or a Benchmade Mini Griptilian. They work just as good as the scissors and I don't ever have to look for them.
Since the '80s are back I use a switchblade.

Nice! When the '90s come back I'll probably switch to a Glock held sideways.
Small braid scissors. I think from rapala
Boomerang tool is awesome. Used to used berkley hot line cutter but the Boomerang tool out does that because I found wind would render heat up times. For 20 bucks its a awesome choice. Havent seem them before youtube them.
I have used a Calcutta forceps with really good results, until I dropped it down my ice fishing hole a month ago, and lost it forever. There is a cutter if you open up the jaws, at the back of them, like some needle nose pliers have. It cuts good, and if the fish inhales your lure, you can also reach way down there and get it back. Here is what they look like : http://www.westmarine.com/fishing-tools/calcutta--calcutta-stainless-steel-tools-forceps-7-1-2--7245699
Rapala braid scissors.

Wow! Five pages on how to cut braid! I think this topic has run its course.
Good night, Irene.

Depends what size the braid is. Usually just use my trusty filet knife. Gnawed through some in a tight spot one day. Really have not found a more effective way then a knife or razor blade though. A pack of blades cost .50 cents. My knife cost me 15 dollars 9 years ago. A specialized cutter cost 25 or so dollars. Why on earth would I invest 2 crankbaits worth of money into a braided line cutter?
Well back to the basement forums I go.
Fuji Zirconia Scissors. They super sharp, non-corrosive, and never need sharpened.

Lasers. Sometimes sharks. Sometimes I combine the two, and keep it on a retractable belt clip. No front pocket with those sharks though!
I have also used: a key, broken glass, a hook, tore a beer can in half, a sharp rock, a spinnerbaits blade, a burr on a chain link fence, and a stop sign....but usually sharks or lasers.
Chainsaw or flamethrower.

I'm new to the forum so it's not my place to say anything but I thought this was a serious place to discuss the finer art of angling, lol.

Apologies, Catt, but I'm sure you had to laugh at some point here.
I have also used braid to cut itself; generally via wind knot, backlash or tip wrap when I have a swimbait tied on. The release is unmistakable.

I wander up to the other forums occasionally. I prefer my basement forum or the two in the sub-basement. Depends on what I'm looking for, as to when I come up here and contribute. Which has maybe been twice in the last six months. I do lurk around this forum and the Tackle forum though.
Sooooo many new members that have yet to experience the mind of Raider. I might have to make more frequent forays into the realm of fishing gear and fishing tackle. Soooo many minds to corrupt..........

The release is followed by that horrible feeling in the pit of your stomach knowing what has just happened too. Ughhhh I hate that feeling.

Sawgrass.
This has become like a bad traffic accident. I know it's going to be bad, but I keep looking anyway.
I just use The Force
Go to the DOLLAR TREE store and get the white with red trim BETTY CROCKER scissors. No kidding. They are great and cheap.

either way though, you see, people are still offering up different tools and what not...and having a few good laughs. and this thread was considered unworthy a few days ago :smh:
Anyone using Karate to cut thier braid? I hear it works well
Very interesting how creative minds can get as we get real near a new fishing season....very well done I might add.
I hear the western fisherman have been using their local Chinese take-out restuarant fortune cookie fortunes to cut their braid. Must be some secret tactic cause I hadn't heard about such a thing until recently..
Having fingers is way overrated...http://www.machetespecialists.com/tramontina-18-bush-wood-with-canvas-sheath.html
I have all of my braid trimming needs sent to Chuck Norris and he just tears it to length.
I've posted this elsewhere, but I use bonsai pruning shears.
They are cheap, made of very good carbon steel and SHARP. As easy to sharpen as a knife.
When those aren't around, I wrap the braid around my bicep and flex.

I bought the Rapala kit with the pliers and snips, I tell you what those snips blow cutting braid unless you have tension on the line... on everything else they are fine.
