I picked up a Revo STX 6.4:1 and a 7MHF St Croix Avid yesterday...now if I can just get the ice to melt lol
I picked up a revo sx 30 and a BPS carbonlite rod to go with it during the classic sale. My wife got me a revo sx baitcaster for our anniversary at the end of October (if that counts as winter), which I paired with another carbonlite rod.
I got another matching combo to my favorite one I already had. Stradic ci4 2500 paired with a Pinnacle Perfecta 7' ML/F
Jeff
New combos are,
6'8 medium cumara with stradic ci4 1000

6'5 medium cumulus with core 51

6'6 medium berkley lightning custom with citica 201e
The only combo i still have thats untouched is my 6'3 medium fenwick smallmouth rod and stradic 1000 fj
I also have to find another rod for an extra curado 51e i picked up, leaning towards another fenwick smallmouth rod or phenix recon 2.

Citica 200e on a 7' MH Falcon Bucoo
U.S. Reel Hibbdon 800sx on a 6' 10" MH worm and jig Shimano Sellus
I have to say I have been VERY impressed so far with the 800sx so far. I didn't realize how much friction was caused at the worm guide until I used a reel without one. I've been waiting anxiously for the ice to melt to put both of these through their paces.
jbsoonersfan, wow quite the lineup and I thought I dropped some money this yr on fishing tackle and equipment!
I only got one actually. Pflueger Patriarch 30 with a St Croix Legend Xtreme LXS610MLXF for specifically drop shotting. Running 6 lb full spool fluoro on it.
I picked up 4 new ones my self thanks to the St Croix rod promotion at Christmas time, as well with some used Shimano reels to put on them
Mojo 7' MH/Mod casting rod and a used Citica 201D, for shallow, lipless, and GP cranking
Mojo 6'6" M/F casting rod and a used Citica 201E, for jerkbaits, top water, and misc....
Eyecon 6'3" M/XF spinning rod and a Shimano Sedona 2500, for dock skipping, small jerkbaits/topwaters, vertical drop shotting.
Rage 7'1" MH/F casting rod, and a used Citica 201E that I swapped the gears out for a set of 7:1 Curado 201E7 gears, for frogging, swim jigs, pitching, jigs, etc....

Wow I'm green with ***. I wish I could afford all of that! Nice setups!
Really nothing to write home about for me.
Bought a BPS Pro Q Tournament Combo 7' M/F with a PQ Tournament 6.4.1 reel. It was on sale for 79.99 so I said what the heck. I plan on upgrading the bearings on this reel, it would be my guinea pig for future upgrade projects (Would be my first).
Not "new" combos, but I also bought two reels (BPS Extreme 5.3.1 and Prolite). I put the Extreme on my 6'6" Clarus Cranking Stick M/MF and the Prolite on my Shimano VROD 7' M/F.
Lew's Speed Spool 7:1:1 ratio paired with a Heavy Duckett Micro Magic for throwing jigs and topwater baits such as frogs and swimbaits. And a Pfleuger President paired with a Dobyns Champion.
These are just the most recent additions over the past couple of months.

I picked up 3 Lews BB1's and 3 Powell Diesel's. 2 6'10 spinning and a 7'6 casting plus a 6'6 Falcon Bucoo micro casting rod.
I didnt buy anything but I think I may be getting another setup soon. Revo S with a Mojo Bass 6'6 MH as my new worm/jig/flipping rod, and a Revo spinning reel with a Veritas 6'6 M rod for finesse fishing in ponds and from shore, retire my Johnny Morris Elite with 6'0 Team All Star rod as my top water go to, and retire my Rick Clunn reel with Shimano Carbomax for crankbaits and spinner baits.
I'll be all set!
Not as fancy as some of your rigs but:
Replaced a Pflueger President reel on my worm and jig set up (Compre) with a Stradic CI4 2500
Shimano Caius on a Shimano Sellus topwater rod
BPS Extreme on a Compre crankbait rod
I got a Shimano Core 50 & Cumara 7'6" ML Reaction rod.
Wanting to get an Okuma Helios bc shortly.
The only thing I planned for the winter was some reel tuning. Couple more TD-Z handles, some carbontex drags, a few abec7 bearings, etc. Got most of the stuff I need for that project.
Told myself I didn't need any more rods and reels.
Bought a Steez spinning rod, 7' ML-XF, and a St Croix Legend Extreme casting rod, 6'10" M-XF.
I have a reel for LE, need another spinning reel for the Steez.
So much for good intentions.
The only complete combo I got is a DX745 paired with gen3 revo premier.

Dobyns Champion 702S with a StadicFJ 2500

New St Croix LTB 6'6 MHF paired with a new Chronarch 200E6
Used St Croix Avid 7' MF paired with a used Curado 200G6
New St Croix Avid 6'9" MLXF spinning with a new Shimano Sahara
New BPS Carbonlite 6'8" MXF spinning with a new BPS PQ
Looking at it now, I guess I went a bit overboard on St. Croix and Shimano. That wasn't my intention. I just seemed to find deals on each rod and reel in the categories I was looking to fill and made the jump.
Bait monkey savaged me as well.

For umbrella rigs and swimbaits.
Got my two new Legend Extremes both casting, a 6'10"MXF and the 7'2"MHM, now this week the Lews Team Pro for the MXF, will be a 9.5oz. finesse rig, and I am undecided on the other reel, I want a Calcutta TE 200 maybe "GT"? but am leaning towards the Lew's in a Super Duty?????

Nice rods. Nice reel. You are one of the guilty ones who talked me into getting a Lews Tournament Pro last year. Got a super deal on a RH like new, so went for it although I would have preferred a LH. Glad I learned to enjoy both hand reels so I don't have to miss out on any deals now.

How to do you like the reel seat on the fenwick. I have the spinning smallmouth rod but havent held a baitcasting model yet. Does it have the rear locking reel seat ?

Reel seat locks down. The cork turns. Didn't noticed the reel seat, so I guess that must mean it works for me. I have the same rod (6'9" MXF), but haven't taken it out of the plastic yet. Didn't get to fish much last year so I stuck with multipurpose rods...except for my dedicated cranking rod.

Thanks bud, yea it was a toss up between the 6'9 medium x-fast and 6'9 medium heavy. I figured i really dont throw anything heavier then 1/2oz so hopefully i made the right decision... But at $104 on amazon you cant really go wrong. Plus the curado looks so good on that rod. I got one day shipping so im looking forward to getting it out for a bit today, hopefully it comes in one piece, its coming directly from amazon, not reeds.
I fell in love with the 6'10 crucial 3/8-1/2oz spinnerbait rod, im really hoping this feels just like that...

Not a whole lot for me this winter but I got some stuff at the end of fall that didn't get a big workout yet.

Pinnacle Optimus XLT w/ Cabelas XML - a Heavy power setup for heavier jigs, etc

Dobyns Champion 763 w/ Supreme XT 9530
Chronarch 50 E
Stradic FJ 2500
Stradic Ci4 2500
Mojo 6'8 MXF
Rage 610 MLXF (spinning)
another rod TBD- bass pro this weekend
We have a summer Christmas but my gift to Dad from Dad was a Chronarch 50e and Cumara 7.2 mhxf.
Oh buddy! I sold my boat, so I have whittled my setups down to 7. After trading and selling a ton of gear, I didn't come out of pocket a dime and now my arsenal is saweet!

eBay and the flea market have been good to me lately almost to good lol. I got both my STXs for 50 less then retail for 3rd gens and I got the villain from the flea market for 95. STX and villain normally that combo would have cost me what $380 I got it for $237(142 reel 95 rod)
On 3/9/2013 at 3:09 AM, clayton86 said:Add a Villain 7'1"MHF to my list paired with a STX
Post a review on the Villain once you have used it for a bit. I got a very good deal on the Villain 7'6" MH. Rod's large diameter initially turned me off. Haven't been able to fish it since it was purchased at the end of last season. Did make a few casts at a local river. Wasn't impressed at all. May have been because the line on the new-to-me reel appeared to be quite old. Was casting with a 1/2 oz. spinnerbait, and got the impression heavier would be better. I do like the looks of the ML Villain spinning rod I bought. Sharp looking rod IMO. I will say that it won't cast a lure beneath is rating worth a darn.
So I just added the following:
Crucial Spinning 6'8" ML/XF - Stradic 1000 FJ (Thanks to DarrenM LOL)
Compre 7'2" Medium/F - Daiwa Lexa 100 7.1.1
Crucial 7'2" MH/XF - ? Either putting a Curado or Citica on it. Yet to do decide.
Just bought a new setup today for jigs and soft plastics. Went with a Revo S on a Mojo Bass 7" MH with some P-Line Floroclear. I think I may pick up another exact setup specifically for fishing heavy cover with creatures and jigs with braid.
I'm in the midst of a gear change. I'm loving the compact design and lightness of the Revo! We will see what comes of the future.
Johnny Morris Signature Series with Team All Star 6'0 rod retiring to top water and my Rick Clunn reel with 6'0 Carbomax retiring to cranking.
Next on the list is an Orra SX spinning reel with Veritas 6'6 M for finesse, pond, and shore fishing.
In Vermont right now... MELT ICE!!!!!
I've bought nothing recently. A sale starting today with a rod (including a free reel) that I've been eyeballing for quite some time. Not being all that crazy for the reel in the first place, I would replace it in time with something else, I'm turned off to the rod. Split grip and a lack of a foregrip has me unexcited, however I did want another 8' rod. I'm taking a pass on buying something that I don't really need just because there is an attractive offer.

My winter purchase intentions has changed, I was going to go with the Team Pro on the 6"10"MXF but was a little to light to balance it out so I did the next best thing, I went with the Lew's Team Gold w/a 7.1 gear ratio for the 6'10"MXF and on the 7'2"MHM instead of a Super Duty, I ended up going with the Original Lew's Team w/ a 6.4 gear ratio. I had them out today and am really impressed, very n and just in time for soft water season,,,,,I think!! a pic of my new "TOOLS"
Nothing yet but on Sunday I'll be buying a shimano chronarch 200e7, a phenix recon 715, and a phenix composite x12 crankbait rod.
Loomis GLX CBR 783 and a 785.....Thought I would have a new Metanium 2013 by now but still not released.
im buying stock in Dobyns, Shimano and St. Croix. this thread alone, they have thousands in sales. lol.
heres mine
-Gen 3 SX paired with a Phenix recon
-Daiwa Lexa 100 with a 7-4 heavy Rage rod (awesome setup)
-Pflueger President with a BPS Carbonlite
I picked up a Powell max 683 which will get paired with my curado 51. Yesterday I picked up a 6'8 medium older cumara while I'm up in north jersey on vacation. I'll pair that with a chronarch 51.
Just picked up the 6'8" mhxf cumara tw has for $99 and got a lews tp for $77 off the bay, quite a nice setup for $180 bucks lol
My wife is loving enough to understand that when we get our tax return every year i buy a new set up. Best wife ever... My winter purchases were an Abu Garcia Orra S spinning reel for my St. Croix premiere, and a MH St. Croix Mojo Bass bait casting rod that I'm still looking for the right deal on a reel for.
I had two spinning combo gaps that needed filling/upgraded and added the following:
7' M Veritas paired with a Shimano Stradic 2500 spooled with 20# Power Pro for most soft plastics (Senkos, etc);
6'9" ML Veritas paired with Pfleuger Supreme XT Size 30 (already had the reel) spooled with 6# XL for tubes, grubs and dropshoting.

Just ordered a phenix recon 715, phenix x-composite x12, and 6'8" medium heavy shimano cumara since it was such a good deal. Also bought a chronarch 200e7 at bass pro today and will be getting a chronarch 50e for my cumara within the next few weeks.
Edit: Well this sucks, tw messed up while I was in checkout and the cumara sold out...and that was the rod I was looking forward to the most.
Picked up a BPS Pro Qualifier as my first baitcaster and put it on a MH lightning shock rod based on my budget. Loving my first baitcaster now and plan on adding a Lews Tournament Pro to my arsenal in the next few weeks!

Those Carbonlite rods are amazing rods. I have one that i use with the Carbonlite baitcaster. Man is that rod sensitive!
Well, winter has arrived again so plenty of time to add a few more combos. So far I picked up a used Fuego 6'10"MXF spinning rod to go with a Supreme XT that needed a companion. Got my first rod designated for crankbaits...a 7' ML Crankin Stick, and will be putting a Carbonlite on it that had been sitting alone.
Also have a replacement coming for the Falcon Expert 7' M that I fell and broke a few years ago. Have a spare Patriarch XT that may go on this rod.
Looking forward to a couple more items if finances allow: Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth 6'10" MH Med-Fast, Kovert 6'9" MH Spinnerbait and a Tatula reel...possibly the Type R.
EDIT: Have been reading great things about the Tatula rods as well. Who knows, may add one of those to my arsenal.
Ive got a new Dobyns 805CB w/Diawa Tatula, a Powell Squarebill rod w/Pflueger Patriarch, Powell 705CEF w/Diawa Zillion Type R, and a Powell TW Jerkbait rod.
Recently got a Powell Endurance 714 c paired up with a Quantum Smoke 151. Super light weight, gonna be in the fifties this weekend so hoping to give it a good test run.
This guy! Diawa tatula type R and matched it with a Falcon Cara Amistad.
No Combos yet but did grab 2 more Omens
7'3" M/F
7'3" MH/F
Was really hoping hookuptackle was gonna have their deal on Chronarchs again but they didnt this year. HopefullyI'll get 2 Chronarch CI4s before season starts.
Chronarch 201E/St Croix LXC71MHXF
Been doing some air travel to my fishing destination recently.
Accordingly, I've started the St Croix Tidemaster Inshore Travel Rod Collection.
The M, M/H & H casting rods and most recently the M spinning model.
Very nice.
A-Jay
I picked up a 6'10 medium light cumulus for dropshots & flickshake. An Aldebaran mg for crankin, and a bfs xg for topwater & jerkbaits.
In the market for a good crankin rod.
No combos for me yet...did get another *** 7'3MH and I have an *** 7'3MH on order

When I bought my first Lews, about 3 years ago, I mounted all of them on Dobyns rods. Seems Lews and Dobyns, go together like biscuits and gravy.

not a new combo per se but this will create a new combination when this rocket is saddled up on my pitchin stick...

It's a good thing that's the PG version you posted.
My Tatula 100HL was waiting for me when I got home today. This reel is incredibly smooth right out of the box. When I pulled the reel out I was really surprised with its size. It is not a big reel at all. fits perfect in my hands which is the one thing I was worried after only being able to handle a RH one. Once I got it dialed in, this thing can really cast and it can cast with ease. I didn't get too long playing with it outside. 15 degree weather and a light freezing mist doesn't agree /w mono or my cold hands. This is going to be a long 4-5 months
I purchased a Okuma Komodo a couple months ago, and a Phenix M1 over Thanksgiving sales. Really impressed with the reel after a complete teardown.
My judgement on the rod is still out. The trigger is closer to the reel then what i'm use to.

Hard to believe, but I've gone for several months without buying a single piece of fishing gear! Gasp!
But......I HAVE spent about $3000 on motorcycle gear for my new BMW F650GS.
I tend to favor one hobby at a time......at this moment it's riding my motorcycle. Fishing has to wait until conditions get right......all these fronts coming has upset fishing down here!
