Answer: I would say it compares for reels in that price range for sure, its pretty inexpensive for what you get. I guess I would say the bail arm is pretty stiff, and that causes a rough start if you use the handle to get it to flip shut...maybe that will break in a bit after more use, but that is the only thing I would say is kind of annoying, the quality is still really good for the money.

Answer: The 4000 is pretty big as it is, I don't think you need more line than that or the retrieval speed for the 5000 if you are onshore or dock fishing. The 5000 is more suited for more trolling or offshore fishing.

First thing I noticed when stringing the reel was a rubber middle area that would hold the line. It made it easy to reel the new line without it sliding. I was a bit concerned about the weight but it is nicely balanced when casting. Definitely heavy duty reel and will last, it was very smooth when reeling in and probably one of the best I've bought. All in all a solid piece of equipment and cannot wait to try it out at the lake.

I finally got a chance to put this reel into action. It works with a consistently fluid motion and has never tangled or stuck. Once in a while, the bail does not re-engage when I reel after a cast, but, in those instances, I assume I have been a bit too gentle when setting it, so it was sort of in between positions. I rated it 4 out of 5 under the category of "light weight" because I have the largest model and it does indeed have some heft to it. It feels good in my hand and it is not actually heavy, but you do feel it.

This reel is very sturdy and appealing. It feels good in the hand and is made up of mostly sturdy metal. This makes it a bit heavy, which sometimes may be tiring, but it's not a huge deal. I also like how on the spool, there is textured rubber. This is really good for gripping line and preventing slippage. I haven't had the chance to fish with it yet, but the drag is nice and smooth and the reel has good power. Overall a great product with an affordable price tag.

Took new SE3000 model out for first time earlier this week to local river. Have mounted on a Berkley Medium-Heavy (fast) action rod. Spooled with Bullbuster 12lb (.30 MM) Mono.

Line came off reel nicely, no springing, bunching, or twisting, irrespective of lure. Threw a few differing sizes/ weights of top water and spinners, from 1/4 -5/8 oz. Returns were all smooth and very quiet and without incident. This is my second Plusinno open-face/ spinning reel and I have been pleasantly surprised both times. I have to see if they make bait casters, which is my preference for freshwater fishing.
