Is this reel really good, average or bad around saltwater?

Answer: I've used it for fishing the flats in FL about a half dozen times. Not long enough for a complete evaluation but so far the reel has performed well. I recommend a light rinse with fresh water after using any reel in saltwater. If you spend twice or three times the money for a reel you gamble on getting that much more service for the extra expense. I think this reel will last pretty long if cared for and stored properly.

Answer: It is good as long as you rinse it off with fresh water after every use and keep it oiled and greased. I've had no issue with this reel in saltwater and I use it almost everyday.

Answer: I dont like braided line on my spinning reels but I use a line depending where I am fishing. I only use braided when I am fishing over 100ft deep. Otherwise I prefer mono or poly.

Answer: The GrimI1 4000 has max drag of 17.18 lbs. it is very precise, smooth and reliable. There is no “jerky” start up of the drag engaging.

Answer: I caught a 37 lb cat, the rod was medium heavy w 25lb braided line. I had no trouble, just had to take my time.

Answer: I have the 3000 model. I fish rivers and small streams. I fitted it with 6 lb. test which suits that kind of fishing. There are larger models that perhaps would be better suited to lake fishing. These are spinning reels that are suited to spinning rods. I assume that by lake rod you are referring to a more robust spinning rod & reel fitted with 8, 10 or greater lb. test which would no doubt require a larger Runcl Reel. Anna : Smooth reel, anti-reverse broke on 1st fish of the day.

I purchased the 2000 series reel. Loved the way it looked and felt in my hand, very smooth overall. However, second trip I took it out I hooked into a smaller fish and the anti reverse completely broke on the reel. I continued to fish with it the rest of the day and caught many more fish, however it was a struggle when setting the hook due to the malfunction. Do not know if I received a faulty reel from the factory, but my confidence in this brand has been severely damaged.

I was looking for a Sturdy reel that didn't cost alot of money and heard about this one..purchased this and I couldn't be happier.
As you can see in the video we caught an alligator gar with it and it stood the TEST!!
It is a pretty smooth reel and cast's pretty far and not to mention that the drag worked perfectly. I also caught several Red fish with it..Can't wait to use it again really soon..I would highly recommend it and plan to buy the baitcaster version of it.

I bought it as a replacement for my first (cheap) reel and noticed the difference right away. Not only did it have a better anesthetic but it had a much faster retrieve. It also makes a clicking sound when you adjust the spool tension which helps me make more exact changes and is better at letting me know when something has bitten my hook.
I was a bit wary of the product bc I hadn’t heard of the brand before but I have no regrets! I’ve had it for a a couple months and still works like new.

This is the second Merced 3000 reel we have bought. Holds up to saltwater much better than any reel we have purchased before. This reel has been great so far. The packaging is very nice, the reel bag included is also a plus. Very smooth reel and the drag works like a dream. It made me realize some of my other reels really need a tuneup because this is so smooth. I got the 5000 because I fish for catfish a lot and wanted the larger size. landed 15 nice blue cats my first weekend using it with no issues at all. Casts great and no issues with the bail flipping unexpectedly. Great bang for your buck I would highly recommend adding this reel to your arsenal.

I loaded this up with fluorocarbon line and took it out trout fishing. This reel did not disappoint. It was very smooth casting and the drag system is easy to adjust. I got several compliments on it and by the end of the trip was not shy at all about recommending it to my fishing buds. I am happy with this purchase and Runcl has once again produced a fine product. Ben : Warranty not honored; no customer service at all

This product seemed great the first few uses, and like a great value option. However, after a little under 2 months of use, the reverse switch/gear stopped working effectively. I reached out to Runcl about the warranty and received no reply, and was careful to check my junk mail inbox. The problem occurred about 20% of the time, and so I was able to continue using the product, albeit with some difficulties (e.g. my line getting pulled out)... but then about a week or two later the crank arm failed and stopped being able to pull in line! I was fishing for crab, and had two small crab on the line, which was apparently enough weight to break the entire mechanism at the drag setting I'd employed. I then reached out to Runcl a second time about my warranty, and again received no reply. It's a bummer, because I had hoped to use this reel for a long time, and now the money is just gone on a product that lasted two months.

Update: Still have not heard from Runcl customer service, so decided to check ok whether I could fix it myself. On opening the reel, I found that it was irreparable, because the teeth of the wheel that drive the spinning reel had almost completely worn down on one side (see photos). Poor material? I’ve since acquired a higher quality reel, at the same 5000 size rating, and it is noticeably larger - I don’t think this Runcl product was properly constructed for the weight it says it can reel in.

Nice smooth action. Quality parts and cut outs on spool make it lighter weight. Knerled spool helps hold braided line from spinning around spool. Decent spring tension in bail, snaps shit all the way when starting retrieve. Drag system holds tight when needed yet to is sensitive enough to fight fish.

Out of the box worked well. How ever was really disappointed the anti reverse didn’t work at all, and the drag system was becoming loose over a short period of time, every time I hooked into a fish the drag was way to loose then where I had it 5 minutes prior. Not to mention when the brake didn’t kick in my reel is going full reverse, instead of taking drag out. Unless there’s a way to fix it, 3/10 wouldn’t recommend to any fisherman. This just didn’t happen to 1 reel, this happened to 3 different reels. Disappointed

I’m very pleased with the Runcl Merced 3000 spinning reel. Right out of the box you see the quality, sheerness and impressive stylish appearance. This reel is very smooth and so light weight I never experienced any fatigue or felt uncomfortable cast after cast. I spooled it with 15lb. braid and it performed perfectly. This is a pretty nice reel from Runcl. Whats not to like? The 10+1 ball bearings make this reel extremely smooth. I particularly like the fact that Runcl designed this reel with a braid ready spool (no slipping on this reel with braided line). I already have the reel set with my braid line. The hollowed out design keep this reel lightweight. The handle seems to be comfortable as well. With a 4.9 to 1 ratio this reel will reel in almost 34 inches per turn I will be testing this reel out this weekend and hope to comeback to this review with the detail of the 24.3 pound drag. Bottom line....for the money? this reel is definitely worth the money. Nice job Runcl!

I received this fishing reel a few weeks ago and finally had an opportunity to take it out fishing here at a small lake in Texas. When I received it, it contained everything that I would need to get started. I was impressed with the detailed diagram that shows off every component of the reel (will be great if needing to replace a specific piece/part in the future). There was one minor problem that I faced with the cap on one end of the reel not staying in place, so I contacted Runcl customer service & let them know about the problem by providing them with the specific part that was causing me an issue. Instead of just send me a new part, they said that they would replace the entire reel for me since I receive it that way upon arrival. This was outstanding customer service, which really impressed me. The new reel that I receive less than a week later did not have this problem. I attached it to a medium light fishing rod and this machine pulled in some decent size freshwater fish. I hope it holds up to some extreme temperatures and slight abuse over time, we'll see!

It's a light weight reel, the line goes off the reel easy for good casting and the retrieve is smooth. The reel is quite solid for the price, wasn't expecting it to be of such quality.

The bad for me is that the retrieve speed is kinda slow as I fish in windy, rocky areas where I need to pick up slack line quickly. I still give it 5 stars because if you're in areas that you can take time to pick up the line slack, then it will work perfect. Otherwise, there is no complain. Really awesome product for the price!!

This reel is very solid and sturdy. It is also very smooth. The built and color is very attractive. Can't beat the price. I put 70lb braided line and used it for surf fishing by the beach. I always clean the reel since it will be splashed with saltwater and sand, but that's an easy task. Overall, I would recommend this reel due to its quality and price.

It performs beautifully but I hoped it would be smaller. I wanted a micro reel but this is more medium sized. My initial search on Amazon was for a micro reel and this showed as an option. I would have returned the two fishing reels but I am pleased with their performance.

These are great reels. Smooth retrieves, level wind, good casting. I bought 3 more. Two points though: 1) They don't sell extra spools for this inexpensive model, and 2) the bails are a bit hard to deploy, it takes a good tug on the handle to make the bail flip over. For the price, who cares when the rest of the reel is so good.

While we haven't gotten a chance to fish with this yet, we've installed on a rod, and the build-quality seems very nice. It looks great on the rod, and the large foam handle is sturdy and comfortable. Really appreciate that it came with an extra spool, and we're excited about getting out into the water with this thing!
