I bought this for my son in law. It matched his pole perfectly. I battled a huge drum that I thought would break his rod. The reel had no problems with this fish at all. We needed a net so lost the fish. Firewire line was put on the reel and it casts like a dream. Well worth the small amount to pay for the reel,

I am new to Fishing industry per se. I have purchase few rods and reel and trying different type of products. This Reel feel very smooth. so far I got good feeling and my kids love it because of the size and smooth spin. with strong line, and bigger rod this reel will do the job.

I took this product out alongside a new Penn Wrath 3000 since they are similarly priced. I’ve used Penn in the past but never the Wrath. I did order 2 of the NS Outdoors and tried tried them both out just to make sure I was giving it a fair go just in case I happened to get a bad one. After trying them all out for a couple of weeks I have to say the Penn is much better. The bearings on the Penn were smoother. The NS Outdoors bearings were smooth and felt ok but the Penn was noticeably better. It just felt like I had to crank the handle a little harder on the NS Outdoors reel. The Penn Wrath 3000 actually holds more line than the NS Outdoors 4000. The one thing that really bugs me about the NS Outdoors reel is the anti reverse. The reel backs up a bit when you stop reeling. Jiggle the handle and the reel will actually start working itself backward. I fish around a lot of structure and any slippage could be costly. The Penn had no slippage at all.

The NS Outdoors reel is useable and I will keep them with me just in case I need a quick change. It does help that I bought them with a special they advertised on Facebook. The Penn does cost $6 more than the normal price for the NS Outdoors but that price is the same for the 2500, 3000, and 4000 models of the Wrath. It is definitely worth the extra money when compared to the NS Outdoors reel. Okuma and Shimano have reels near this price point as well that I haven’t tried yet. It’s not that the NS Outdoors is a bad reel. I’ve had plenty that were worse. There are just better options at this price.

Update: I received communications from customer service that I happened to get 2 reels from a defective batch. They will be sending me 2 new reels. I originally rated this transaction 2 stars but the customer service so far has been good so going to take it to 3 stars. I realize defects happen and they are doing a good job at proactively making it right. Once I receive the new reels I will adjust this review based on those reels alone and not on the first ones I received.
