I gave that rreel away because it was right handed and I needed a left hand. No trouble with the new one. Could be something wrong with that reel. If you contiue to have trouble replaciing the reel might be the answer.

Adjust the brakes to max to start off, slowly back em off after you get the hang of it. Dont forget, your thumb is also a brake. Keep practicing in the yard. I love mine, no issues at all.

Answer: Braid is much smaller in diameter than monofilament or fluorocarbon line, which means you can run a much higher test strength line. Braid has a tendency to dig into itself on the spool, so a thicker diameter braid like 40-50lb will keep that from happening. I run 50. Some guys run up to 65. But remember, fish can see braid very easily, so make sure you tie on at least a 3ft fluoro leader.

Answer: I just caught a 12lb. Catfish on a Med Heavy rod with 20 lb braid. It was super easy to reel him in. While I don’t target catfish, the 4 I have caught have all been on this reel, and I landed them with ease.

Answer: I would think you would want to be cranking the reel with your right hand. So you a right hand reel. The 7.2 ratio is all dependent on how fast you want the retrieve of the lure to be. Some of my lures I prefer the slower 5.4 ratio.

Danny Thomas : My thoughts
So I've had a couple reels from them and wanted to try the Royal Legend II. Great price as usual. there's a few things i like about it right out of the box. 1) If you look at the line guide above the worm gear you will see it's over sized, this reminds me of the theory from a Tatula that an open line guide allows line to flow freely off the spool for longer casts. 2) it's a fairly flat spool so should work well using it on Braid (I got this reel for frogging). 3) if you look at the line guide in relation to the worm gear and how it lines up with the spool, you'll notice it goes all the way to the edge thus allowing the line to spool all the way to the edge of the spool smoothly.

Just received this reel and it's quality is outstanding for such a low price. I cant believe this reel is so cheap for the quality that comes out of the box. I will be testing its durability with a KastKing Nighthawk II baitcasting 8 foot Telescopic Reel next week. I will update you an all the specifics of the product performance. The spool is buttery smooth and ive put about 100 yards or a little more of 40lb Braided Kastking Extremus Braided Fishing Line with a 20Lbs Kastking Durablend Monofilament Leader. I have faith that this will hold a catch heavier than 10 Lbs.

This was the second Kastking Casting Reel I've purchased and I am very happy with both of them. This one has performed as expected. I'm new to the casting experience and wanted a good reel that would make casting easier. This reel has been easy to set up and easy to use. I've yet to have a snag with the line. I owned the first version of this reel and really enjoyed it but had gotten the wrong side drive. This version is even better besides that the 7:1 gear ratio is not offered in left hand drive. This reel is super smooth and both clutch and brake work well. This version over first has an added click to the clutch adjustment so that it doesn't loosen over multiple casts. Good product overall.

Scrummie : First time that I have ever been able to actually use a baitcaster
I have been throwing spinning gear for 40 years. Over the years (beginning at 16) I have purchased baitcasters to try to learn to throw them. It was ALWAYS the same results: incredible bird's nests within seconds. That was until I tried the legend 2! This reel has been the answer to my long time dream of being able to cast a baitcaster. If you're a true novice, as I was, just turn the centrifugal brake to 10 and you can literally cast without a thumb! The problem then becomes distance. The higher the brake the shorter the cast. However, these "training wheels" can let you learn how to thumb the spool on casts and as you get better you can drop the brake. I am still set to 7 so early intermediate and I am already bombing casts. I can't wait until I can throw on 1 or 2!!!!

It is a pleasure to use because on a long day of fishing with it my arms and hands never seem to tire out. I am 73 yrs old and I need this comfort for me to enjoy my sport of fishing. First time out it bird nest so bad I had to cut out my braid. Afterwards I realized the magnetic braking was not working correctly in conjunction with a light lure caused such a birds nest but to be fair to last king I am going out again with new braid and same lure and see if I can prevent the problem conditions on lake were perfect...

I'm not sure about longevity yet. I'll update if that turns out to be a problem. However, this is a very smooth. Even with a good fighting fish it remained smooth. I didn't have any issues casting it, but I've got several years of experience with bait casters. This one really isn't any different than ones I've used in the past regarding birds nests or casting. If you throw in to the wind and don't pay attention you'll get a mess - LOL!
The reason for the 4 star versus 5 is I thought castking reels came with an internal clutch. Pins to open or close based on your needs. This in addition to the magnetic clutch that can be adjusted on the outside. This model doesn't have that internal clutch.
The clutch being said, this is a good reel for a very good price. Quality is definitely there. As a guy who fishes 20-25 times a year for a variety of species (bass, walleye, crappie, pike), I recommend it. An affordable option for a good quality reel.

Immediately after taking it out of the box I put line on the reel. Took it outside and with a dummy plug I started casting. The drag did not engage properly and the reel jammed. I use their spinning reels and like them , however they need to either redesign the reel or rethink their quality control. As it is now, I would not recommend.

I am a diehard fan of KastKing reels. I have 5 of the Royales and they all perform flawlessly. I had no trouble buying the new Royale II. The new profile and added strength with no increase in price was an easy choice to make. I will be paring it with a KastKing Royale Rod 7 footer, medium heavy.

I am brand new to fishing, and this was my first reel I've ever purchased. I was very upset that it kept tangling up so much, so I reached out to KastKing customer service. The CS rep gave a very long, and thorough explanation of how the reel worked, and what I was doing to cause it to 'birdnest'.
Now that I look back, I must have sounded like a complete idiot, but THANK GOD she talked me through it. I now have MANY bass on the books, and I even purchased some inshore gear from Kast King.
I also pulled in a 3.5' alligator with the reel, which impressed me, but not sure if that's a good metric or not.

I own the Royale Legend I and decided to give this one a try since I needed a nice crankbait reel (5.4:1 GR). When I first picked up the Royale Legend II my first thoughts were this thing is nice and lite. The reel has a nice smooth fluid motion coupled with comfortable handles. I do have to say that for very inexpensive reels, they do operate like some of the higher end baitcaster reels out there and their construction is top notch. I regularly take my reels apart to clean and lube them up and I am always impressed with the quality of craftsmanship put into these reels.

My first baitcaster reel. Followed the instructions and looked at some YouTube videos. Set the magnetic drag ,spool tension etc and practiced casting. What a dream to use . One over wind when I change rigging gear. Did not set it up properly. Love this reel. For $40 , even importing it to South Africa it’s great value for money. Brought a rod to match this reel. Off this weekend to go fishing with the grand kids ( who are already eyeing out my new rig ????)

I’ve had this reel for around 9 months and let me tell you, for the price this is a magnificent reel. I originally bought it as a go to reel for pond hopping, but now I never go fishing without it. I’ve caught many big fish on it and it still holds true. And this is coming from someone who owns multiple shimano and lews reels including the curado dc and curado k, I still use this reel as much as the others. With some proper maintenance I’d say this still has a couple years left to kick, my main complaint is the grips which I’ve changed out for a new set. Other than that this reel is great for the price and if you’re thinking about buying one, for $40 you CANT go wrong. Just take care of it as you would any other reel and it will take care of you!

The reel is super smooth, and solid drag. For the price point you can't beat it. You can buy 3-6 of these for the price of one of the name brands. It's all in want you want I suppose. I have had top of the line reels, but like most fisherman, I end up swapping them out after a period of time and trying the latest and the greatest. I gotta say my first impression is, Kastking has done it again. This is a really great reel for the money. Recieved it today earlier than expected. As soon as I got it, I spoiled it up and took it out to the pond. Caught 3 little ones and a 2 pounder and so far, it performs flawlessly. Very easy to get dialed in with the clicking tension knob. I would and have recommended Kastking to all my friends looking for quality fishing gear.

My son has progressed into a baitcaster. He’s had a few learning experiences though over all this has been a great reel and very forgiving to a beginner. I can loose it up and this thing casts a county mile in experienced hands too. KastKing is quickly becoming my favorite new brand. Pflueger is still my #1 choice on spinning reals but most are all paired to KK rods. Keep up the good work Kast King!

Initial impressions are very good. Reel seems tight, smooth, and easy to use. I like that the trigger is very positive. Mine came lightly oiled, probably not enough to fish with right out the box.
The concern...it appears as though I got a returned item. One of the grips had dirty markings on it. The box was not sealed with the little sticker seal. But I can’t find anything actually wrong with it. Will update after use.

Amazon Customer : Not high quality but worth the money
First opinion of the reel is that it has a smooth reeling action but the rest feels a little cheaper made. The spool tensioner does not have well defined clicks for adjustment and does not seem to be as smooth responding as some other reels. The drag appears to be ok so fare but have not tested on a fish yet. First spooling of line it favored spooling the line on the right side of the spool. Although this does not affect its performance it shows a slightly lower quality. When testing the reel without line there is a slight noise with the spool upon starting and stopping reeling. This noise disappears once line is on but shows to me the fit and finish of the internals is a lower standard as well. Overall from what i see the reel is definitely not a high quality reel but you are not paying high quality price and the reel is not a bad purchase at the $40 price point. I would buy again.

A very good casting reel, good line control when adjusted correctly, though as with most casting reels, it takes a little practice to keep from getting backlashes. Having quite a bit of experience (75 years) with casting reels, I would say that this rates with reels that I have costing three times as much as this one. I will need to use it much more to see how it lasts.

I work in a local sporting goods shop that carries pretty high end baitcasters. With the exception of Shimano, these stand up to any other brand we carry. For the price, they are simply amazing. Awesome reel. I love this reel I just ordered 2 more. I will put these reels up against my $80 lews any day. Smooth long cast with weightless soft plastics. Once set right you don’t even have to hold your thumb on spoil while casting. Totally recommend this reel. My wife and daughter both loved this reel and they never threw a bait caster until this one and they never backlashes it not one time.

First of all this is an error on my part. I misread the description on this reel versus the original Royal Legend and assumed that the 2 would have dual breaking and more ball bearings I made my purchase. What I really wanted in a baitcast as fast as features was in the original Royal Legend. On this real I basically have to run my magnetic brake setting on 8 to keep it from back lashing which doesn't leave a whole lot of adjustment, that's where I think the dual braking of the OG version would definitely help. I also was looking forward to the smoothness of all those ball bearings. Again though, this was my fault and has nothing to do with the product I have now, just read the descriptions carefully!

Really impressed with this inexpensive reel. Easy to adjust and calibrate. Less backlash than my Garcia which cost 5x more. Easy to use. just wish it had more bearings for a smoother/quieter operation. Even still, it's not bad, but its not as quiet as my old diawa was.

Richard Stade : 50/50 CHANCE OF QUALITY
I was super impressed with this reel when I bought it in Sept of 2020. I had three royal legends before this one that I liked. I ordered a Zypher BSF as well. Then I decided to get another royal legend ii. Thats when my problems began. The one u bought in 2020 developed a jerky feeling when I cranked it. Something in the line guide gear I believe. The second royal legend ii I bought in June 2021 has the same "rough spot" while retreaving. One of my original royal legends has now developed a gear noise. So out of 6 reels, 3 are still as smooth as the day I bought them. 3 are not. I also purchased 2 triton spinning reels several years ago that are fantastic even after heavy saltwater use. So out of 8 total purchases, 5 are holding up and 3 did not. I know these are $40 reels, so guess its a crap shoot when you purchase them.

Just started fishing again. First Baitcasting reel for me. After some research and discussions with my son who uses one, I found this to be a good start. It is inexpensive and the quality seems first rate. The most in-depth decision was to buy the right or left handed model. I read a few good articles about how a right handed caster (me), actually May consider a left hand crank, as you don’t have to change hands after the cast to start your retrieve....I guess the modern way...but I settled with the right sided crank as I am use to casting, switching hands and reeling in. I hope, as I get use to this style of reel, to someday try a left sided crank.

Earlier, I posted a fairly negative review for this reel. I was WRONG!!! The problem with the reel was me, not the reel. I had loaded the reel with Trilene Extra Tough 20 lb mono. The casting was terrible! Backlashed almost every time. In my frustration, after hours of working at trying to improve the casting, I wrote a negative review. I had waited too long to return the reel. Finally, I stripped the line off and put on Trilene 12 lb. After a couple of adjustments this thing casts like a dream. I have stood in my yard and cast it over and over. This reel works great, and I highly recommend it! Lesson learned - read the instructions!
