Answer: If you mean the side plate it has an oldschool screw type of lock that is on the handle side which holds the side plate. But I dont really think you would want to lubricate that because you can only access the the spool and the brake magnets from there.

Answer: It all depends on what your fishing for. I cant speak for the phantom , I purchased the Alijoz 300 and love it. I Have 2 now. I Use it in the ocean for top water fishing for calico bass etc. Once you get the spool tension set up it is very easy and smooth to cast. As far as birdnesting goes it is a matter of getting use to the reel. I put on old line and practiced in my yard.

Is the 5:9:1 ratio gears larger than the 8:1:1 ratio?

Answer: the gearing is different which means that if you have a larger fish with a lower speed gear ratio you can crank the handle and pull line in easier THAN with a faster retrieve rate. Using the reel for larger saltwater species to go with the slower gear ratio. If you want to use it for inshore species I would go with 8:1. I use this for larger lipless crank baits and love it for that purpose. I would go with the double handle. Soft Steel Braid ❤️

Answer: The higher ratio means a quicker retrieve, but less power. 8 to 1 means one turn of the reel gives you 8 times that amount of line retrieve with each turn.

I am amazed with the build quality of this reel. I have three other baitcast reels. One of them costs almost triple the price of this one and honestly, I like this reel much better.
Balancing the reel was a breeze. I mostly fish salt and brackish waters from piers and rick jetties. My favorite fishing spots are shallow and rocky for at least 20 yards out so, having a large capacity spool is a must-have for me. My favorite line is a 35lb braided line.
With all those factors, this reel exceeds my needs nicely. Just yesterday I hooked up to a 40+ lb black drum. What a fight! These fish are real brawlers! My new Piscifun Alijos 300 reel handled this fight like a true heavyweight. Pic attached.

1. My, my she shore is purdy. This reel is a beauty. Lots of compliments on the looks alone.
2. She's a silent killer. This reel is very quiet and I love that.

I really like this reel and have high hopes for it. Especially bang for buck. However, mine has an issue where after the third use the handle squeaks like crazy. Every handle rotation is a loud squeak and I’ve tried everything to make it go away and always rinse thoroughly after saltwater use. Have contacted Piscifun and they suggested to oil the bearing on each side of spool and the one-way clutch... which did not work. Now waiting to hear back to see if I can return or have it replaced.

Seemed like a good reel but second time I took it out the handle engage on the spool doesn’t work anymore. Luckily it still has the button to engage the reel and that works still (so far) so it’s useable at least. Caught a couple calico bass and barracuda on it and it held up. But can’t see the reel lasting very long due to the issues I’m already experiencing.

**Update after first season of use (freshwater only):
Reel still works as well as the first time out.
Casting distance is not great, that spool just doesn't like turning.
Fished fine in 30 F degree weather up through 100+ F degree weather.
Fished fine in wind, rain, and hail.
Lots of power when reeling in fish.

Preface: Three stars does not mean a bad product in my book. It means that it is an overall, perfectly ok product.

Got this for an entry level small swimbait (1-3oz) reel. This is my first Piscufun reel and normally I would get a name brand reel but 300 size baitcasters are pretty expensive and until I decide if I like this technique, I didn't want to invest big money (for me) in something like a Tranx or Komodo. So for under $100, I figured I would gamble on this one.

Haven't fished it yet but will update after using it for a while but so far:

Pros
-Packaging was good, just like any name brand reel.
-No play in the spool.
-The spool has a little peg thing on it to keep your line from disengaging from the spool. I think I like that better than holes in the spool or using electrical tape.
-Rubber traction pad on the thumb switch which is a nice little touch that I will certainly appreciate in the rain.
-Drag washers are carbon fiber! Assumed they were going to be felt at this price point, so bonus!
-Main gear is indeed a big brass one. Machining quality seems fine.

Cons
-Some play in the power handle.
-Out of the box free spool is poor. With brake setting on zero, the spool only spins five or six times when I flick the spool.
*Note: Oiling the bearings really helped the free spool time but it still isn't great.
-It is a little geary feeling and I can hear the reel when turning the handle. I'm going to open this thing up and see how much grease is in it.
*Note: Opening the reel and lubricating it with grease and oil really helped the smoothness. There was grease inside but the care in its application was lacking.
-The anodized metal on the spool is red like it is supposed to be but the spool tension knob and colored inlay on the reel body are a pink/magenta color. See attached image.
-When I tore down the reel to grease and oil it:
--Found brass metal shavings on the handle hardware stack from the star drag adjuster, none inside the reel though
--The bearings were pretty dry so I needed to add oil.
-The included parts diagram doesn't clearly show you the orientation of the parts, so if you lose track of which direction some of the bushings or similar parts go, then you're in for some lengthy trial and error to get the reel back together.

Other
-Star drag adjuster is plastic. That might be a pro or a con depending on your application.
-Note: the metal nut inside the star drag is brass and also seemed to be the source of the metal shavings I found.
-Some of exterior plastic parts aren't fully finished in that there's mold lines and plastic burrs on some of the parts. These aren't parts you touch though so it's not a con, just something to be aware of. Also, there are some tool marks on underside of the reel from the factory assembly process as well.
-Unsurprisingly at this price point, there is a lot of plastic on this reel but it seems to be metal in all the areas that would actually be under load. So no harm no foul, less to corrode for you saltwater anglers.
-Abu Garcia Reel Grease is compatible with the factory grease; there was no ill effect when mixing them.
-Standard nylon/plastic cogs for the worm gear line assembly. Tolerances look fine. Was scared they would be reel destroying cheap metal.

I just bought my 4th Alijos 300. These reels are absolutely amazing. Once you set them up properly they're trouble free. I throw 8oz swimbaits easily.
I've pulled up 22lb lingcod from 400ft down with no problem. I've pulled up 50lb stingrays with no problem. I've pulled up 12lb halibut easily. I've pulled up double loop 8lb vermilions 2 at a time with no problem.
This reel is like a tow truck winch. Plenty of drag. No need to contemplate. This is excellent value for the money.

I just recently used this reel off Nantucket using anywheres from 16 to 24 oz. Worked flawless and cranked fish up with no problem. Will be ordering another one soon(be my third)!!
