Product reviews of Quantum Optix Spinning Fishing Reel, 4 Bearings (3 + Clutch), Anti-Reverse with Smooth, Precisely-Aligned Gears, Clam Packaging
Amazon Customer : A bit of a “sticky wicket”
Price is good, but there is no bail stop and the bail is very hard to close while reeling and often sticks to the point of having to physically close it. I tried to loosen it up and managed to break it. Oh well, like I said it was cheap...and it didn’t cost much either.
willard Lee Tucker Tucker : No me gustó el producto.
Tres usadas y la corrosión afecto el rol de spul principal en resumen es una cochinada mejor uviese comprado un penn.
Jess in NY : Perfect
Received quickly. Exactly as described. Work perfectly.
Dale : Surprisingly Smooth
For a $25 reel this thing is super nice. I’m blown away. Smooth drag, good bearings. I see no issues at all. I use this size for my catfish and late season salmon bottom rigs. You can put a ton of line on and never have to worry.
Alexis : “Reel” great ????
It was a birthday present for my husband, he liked them so much that we actually ordered two!

M. L Strickland : I'm not impressed at all
This reel arrived today and I immediately checked it over. I'm not impressed at all and will not even load line on it.
It will probably work OK. After all, I've caught fish with just a handline. This reel will not be very enjoyable to use, so I won't bother with it.
Here is what I observed, both positive and negative.
First, it is larger than the photos on the web page showed. There is a photo of a reel over a hand, and it is a good bit larger then the image in the photo. I clicked on different reel sizes and the photo was the same for all sizes of reels. That isn't a problem, just an observation. If I were going to use it, I would use it for surf fishing or for river fishing for flathead catfish.
The handle can be reversed for either right or left handed use which is a standard feature for spinning reels. So far, so good.
The drag seems to work OK. Easy to set and smooth adjustment. I didn't test it to verify the maximum drag, but they claim 10 pounds is the maximum. I would have expected more drag resistance.
Now for the negatives....
The bail locking and unlocking is inconsistent. When I lock the bail back for casting, it sometimes won't catch well. Then when I crank the handle to release the bail, it never releases smoothly and sometimes, it is quite hard to release. The handle just doesn't want to turn. I don't like having to fight with my reels! This is probably my biggest complaint with this reel.
The line capacity that is listed is 250 yards of 17 pound line. I can get that same capacity in a physically smaller and lighter reel. I was planning to put 15 pound braided line on it, but since I dislike the reel so much, I'm not going to waste the line.
When I read the manual, I saw the there is supposed to be an anti-reverse setting switch on the reel for turning the anti-reverse on and off. It is supposed to be on the bottom of the reel, but there is no switch on the reel I received. I looked at the picture of the reel on the Amazon page and can see that there is one in the photo, but my reel definitely does not have one. If both the manual and the web page indicate that a feature exists, I expect it to be on the product.
The manual also mentions that an exploded view parts can be found on the Quantum Fishing website. When I went to the website and entered the model of the reel on the "Support" page, the website told me that there was no product of that model. This was from the search engine. Next I went to the "Shop" tab and was able to find the page for the Optix reels. There was a link to the parts list and the exploded view drawing there. What really surprised me however was that the website showed that the reel is not available in any size! Strange!
One thing I learned on the product page though is that this is actually a Zebco reel. The parts listing page is titled "Zebco Parts Finder Results" in the browser page tab. Interesting!
All things considered, I don't like this reel and will probably not use it. When I do my surf fishing or catfishing, I'll just my quality baitcasting rod and reel that I bought specifically for those types of fishing.
This reel would not be enjoyable to use.
Jeff Davidson : Not happy with it
Line guide keeps cutting my line. Not happy with purchase at all. I expected better quality from Zebco
Douglas R. : The 1 star is not for the reel itself
I ordered these 2 reels on Oct 14th. They are great reels and I have 6 of them already and they get 6 stars. Very versatile. Great for fresh and salt water. I use them for monster catfishing and Striped Bass. You know, the kind that can be from 30 to 100 lbs. Smooth casting, smooth reeling and with the oversized handle, you have great control. Problem is, Amazon has changed the date I will actually get them, 6 times. Amazon claims they are in stock, yet my order somehow keeps being ignored. Why the hell do I pay my prime membership, if this is the service I get? SO...Reels get 6 stars. Amazon....If I could give negative stars, I would.
Char : as represented
very good reel for the price
Alec Watson : Awesome reel! Size 40 is the way to go size 60 is huge!
Awesome reel I have 3 of these in size 40 and a size 60 as well the size 40 is perfect for just about any fish I have all 3 of them paired with a 7 foot Shimano fx rod and it's by far my favorite setups I throw 30 lb mono on all of them have caught nice size catfish with all 3 and they hold up great. The size 60 is enormous though incase your iffy about the size I mean you could catch a shark or gator with the size 60 it's one big hefty reel the size 40 works just fine for salmon, steelhead, catfish just about any big fresh water fish.

yalch⭐ : Somewhat large, but does the job very well
This is for 10+ft size poles, works excellent for long catfish pole. Very smooth and precise reel, casts well as line goes off and gets released without getting tackled. Nice clutch with good gear ratio, heavy duty and heavy weight. Highly satisfied.

Not the reel I ordered is was larger than the description said it was
Benj : Great for the price
Great for the price
MRM : A No Frills Budget Reel by Zebco
This reel is just OK. I didn’t realize that this company was owned by Zebco, which makes pretty low budget fishing gear. The reel itself is pretty massive and will not fit on a light duty rod. The reel seems smooth enough but who knows how it will hold up over time. It’s not sealed and the bail sticks a bit, but it is interchangeable whether you are right or left-handed. I don’t know if I would trust this for saltwater applications for bigger fish, which given the size of this reel suggests it’s for. I think you can do better.
Dallas Red Hail : Optimize with Optix!!
Very smooth reel. Been a Quantum fan my whole life. They are all I use. ????????????????✊????????????
MarcAndre : less than 40$ can't go wrong
WOW ( sz30)
Can't go wrong with that 30$ reel
Smooth reeling, well balanced like it
