Does the xl 30 have a switch that puts the bail in the correct position for your next cast ..with the roller & line top dead center?

Answer: You can always turn off the anti reverse and set it to the correct position needed.

Answer: Brian, again the line comes off the spool in the same direction of the rotation of the reel...your reel rotates counterclockwise...lay the spool on the ground and run it through a couple of guides, hold the tension on the line as you spool this is critical especially with fluorocarbon...the line...looking down on the spool is coming off counterclockwise...do not over fill your reel...hope this helps

Answer: Brian, I use Pflueger reels exclusively for the most part, fluorocarbon will "nest" no matter what the brand of reel...I find that Pline and the new Trilene fluorocarbon to work the best...there is only one way that I know how to put line on a spinning reel...holding the reel up in front of you looking from the back of the reel and reeling, watch the bail rotation...usually counterclockwise...that's the way the line has to come off the spool of new line...hope this helps...don't give up and good fishing

Answer: Fluorocarbon is very stiff, which causes it jump off the spool of a spinning reel once the bail is opened, creating a "bird's nest." I have been very happy with fluorocarbon on baitcaster reels, but not on a spinning reel.

Answer: Bearings are not sealed, corrosive resistant stainless steel bearings. The reel is a little small for for surf fishing. Great reel for wading a bay, although still maybe too small. Just don't get saltwater inside, time consuming to disassemble, re-lube, and reassemble.

Answer: I just purchased one for saltwater, I don't freshwater fish and I don't have any concern about using it in saltwater. It's a magnesium alloy that is coated and the manufacturer says it approved for saltwater. Magnesium has a higher reaction than aluminum so everyone gets their panties in a bunch over it. Clean it after use and wipe it down with a cloth and some furniture Polish. That's what I do with all my reels and you should clean any reel after use in any water condition. Pull it apart every 6mo and deep clean and re grease depending on use.

Answer: Spools are metal. Extra spools are available. Parts and an extra spool come from a third party. The color is different but it works fine. Weird.

Answer: Pure Fishing owns Abu, Pflueger and Shakespeare. Pure Fishing is owned by Newell...and they own many many many companies.

Answer: I use a #40 on a Lew’s 7’ custom stick and really like it. It’s a great reel. I prefer the larger size, so I would recommend the 40, but that’s my personal preference you should choose what works best for you.

Answer: Normally I would say the 35 would be sufficient. However, you said, ”ice”. Given the fact that you will not the luxury of using maximum rod leverage, the 40 may be in order. If you are planning on using braided line, that would finalize my decision.

Answer: Go with a 40 or larger because I fish in South Georgia for bream and catfish and they can strain the 35. That’s my 2 cents

Answer: Yes, absolutely, I use it with a 9 foot ultra light for trout and steelhead. It's a good reel. The only issue I ever have is line tangle, with other reels on the same rod I don't have that issue.

Update: this was year two with this fishing reel and I fish ALOT. It is perfect and by far the best reel I have ever used. I have had no problems with it at all.

Bought the Supreme because my President kept breaking and assumed it would be better parts. Bail arm guide (plastic) and spring both broke within a year. Supreme now 15 months old and broke spring after 6 months and bail return mechanism just broke. Both reels seem to have same parts which aren't available from manufacturer (parts catalog says obsolete).
Fixed Supreme with new spring and three months later bail arm wore out (replacement not available). Why do they still sell these reels?

This is a very good reel. It is smaller than I had thought but is powerful and casts well. Reason I give it four stars is that I also own the Presidents and those are true 5 stars. Use it with St Croix medium/light rod.

First off the reel is outstanding very smooth and light.
People need to know that the Pflueger sizes run smaller, the 35 size is more like other brands 3000 and the 30 is more like a 2000 or 2500.
I have mine on a KastKing speed demon pro 7'3" crankbait rod and the colors match perfectly.

The supreme xt 35 is the same weight as the much smaller president 30 size so there is a significant weight advantage because of the magnesium body and rotor.

I got his reel two years ago. I got it together with a Abu Garcia revo SX. Two two years of light uses (e.g. 20 total lake fish trip a year), the reel just broken on the bail arm. I am surprise for this to happen. Later found that the arm is made of a plastic material. Meantime, the other reel is strong. It is out of warranty ( 1 year). But replacement can be find on the eBay, but it is such a pain to replace due to the spring kept piping out. It is not a pleasant experience for me.

I like the feel and balance of this real but honestly I’m disappointed with its casting distance and it’s smoothness.
I ran it with 10lb mono and then tried 30lb braided with a 10lb mono leader...not much difference.
Overall it’s just okay,
I have better reels at the same or even lower price mark that cast out a lot further and retrieve a lot smoother.
Quality is really good, it’s built well and I believe it will hold up well.

I have used the pfluger supreme xt for about 3 years now -- i have 3 of them -- great reel but there are a couple issues -- one braid gets caught in bail assembly -- the part that guides the line -- there is a narrow gap that braid slips into and it feels like the line is wrapped around the tip but its the line guide

Second --- which is more annoying is the supreme xt is highly prone to line twist -- i spool it correctly but everytime i have trouble with line twist -- no problen with this on my shimano stella reel or my okuma reel -- zero -- and line twist is so annoying -- one minute your fishing and the next your out of the game with a tangled mess that has to be fixed
