Man I've fished some of those retention ponds off of the interstate out in that area and caught some nice fish. Try those if you haven't yet.
There us a big lake next to the HHGregg store in Oakleaf that has some fish in it. Pope Duval and Bethesda Fish Management Areas are both good for catching high numbers of fish (nothing really big usually though).
My main spot is an Industrial Park off of Pritchard road. There are about 6 retention ponds in there that have some absolute HOGS in them.

Yeah, it's pretty easy to spot. It's on Pritchard just before you run into Jones road. This might help.
It's more like a buisness complex they just call it a park. Lots of retention ponds in it though that have been there 15+ years.
unf!
Have and spots you'd like to share now UNF?

Thanks again man!!! Yea i do for sure! Down in ponte vedra, past the main area right before you hit miklers road. There are two really great ponds in a neighborhood on your right called the Preserve. You cant miss the main pond on your right because it has these strange cypress trees just growing in the middle of the pond itself. There is no gaurd gate and you can park right at the pool next to the ponds. My girlfriend and i have caught some awesome fish there! the main pond by the road is really strange, like i said earlier. Its got the cypress trees, but also i have never seen schooling bass in such a small area pond as i have in this one. You can literally see the schools of baitfish and shortly after the bass foraging on them. Aside from this, i mainly fish at UNF. Donut lake where all of the nature trails are is a great lake/pond. You can rent a canoe for free and there are some MASSIVE fish to be had! I know, however, that there has to be some great untapped fishing areas off of Gate blvd and down in ponte vedra.

Nice, thanks man. I'll have to give that spot a try some time.
I've heard good things before about the ponds around UNF. We should fish those sometime. Are you aloud to put small boats in at the donut lake? I have a 10ft Bassbuster type boat that is killer in small lakes/ponds.

Nice. As soon as I replace the lights on my trailer it sounds like a plan.
Let me know when you plan on trying the spot on Pritchard and we can do some fishing, it's all from the bank out there though.

Awesome man. Do you have a facebook or anything that we could exchange phone numbers on??
Hey guys im a new student to UNF and im from Land O' Lakes near tampa. All we did down there was fish the small onds cause we couldnt really afford a small jon boat but now im back to square one up here. I have a condo one pottsburg creek I think is what its called but no bass unless you go further south towards beach blvd i think. Just wonderin if the spots you guys were talking about were still good and if u found any new ones. Maybe next time you guys fish at UNF i could meet yo and you could show me the spots there.
I hit up the ponds on Pritchard earlier. Ended up catching a few small ones, one a little over 4# the bite slowed down so I was fishing a weightless fluke and hooked up to something that broke my cheap lightweight Berkley Cherrywood spinning rod in 3 pieces and broke 12# test. Fought it for 5 minutes or so and never saw it so no clue what it was. Probably a big catfish or maybe a huge turtle. It was pulling drag even with it almost tightened all the way up. Figured it had to be getting tired so i was slowing the spool down with my finger to give it some tension then it just took off and snapped he rod then the line.
Totally my fault for the rod snapping, I knew it would probably break but had to find out.. Oh well gives me a reason to buy a new one. I've had that rod for a few years though and caught some 4-5#ers on it without any issues. But they are known to break if bent over too far.
I'm gonna hit them up more as it cools off some. From what i've seen of them they should be real fun in a month or so..
well i need to get over then. Im gonna try UNF this weekend you can rent a canoe if ur a student so ill prob do that and fish those lakes for a bit but ya i heard the ponds by prichard are pretty good. well see how it goes this weekend. And dang maybe it was a 10lb bass! that sucks about ur pole but ya now u get a new one.
Anybody ever fished Big Cypress Swamp over across from teh St Johns Town center? I fished UNF today, used a Spro Frog had two nice strikes, but using a spro you may know how that goes.
BTW I have a few spots.
where at UNF did you fish?
Everytime I fish near the town center I get kicked out.
I got some secret spots on the southside but you pretty much have to have a small boat due to overgrown banks. I have a 8' pond jumper style boat and it's perfect for the small ponds.
Hey guys my name is mark. I've fish a few of these ponds in my area off ft.Caroline with good results. I'm headed out tomorrow and will post the results of my find. If interested ill show you "MY HOT SPOT". Ill post tomorrow around 5 with how it went down.

Mark: How did you fair in the ponds off Ft. Caroline? I'm looking for new spots to fish around here. I've tried the retention ponds off of Pritchard (the ones at the Industrial Park) as a few members have commented on, but unfortunately, have not been able to get a single bite.
What other places are you fishing?
Any new hot spots in Jacksonville? I'm willing to drive and travel just about anywhere here in Jacksonville. Any tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
I'm also new to the Jacksonville area...Looking for some help with spots to wet a line. The lakes off of Pritchard road sound like a great spot to try. I've fished a few park lakes off of Greenland Road (Palmetto Leaves Regional Park) and caught a few small bass and bluegill. This drought is really dropping the water level in the small ponds. I fished Pope Duval lake (at the end of the road) a couple weeks ago and didn't have any hits. Maybe I was fishing the wrong lake. Saw a small gator and guys there fishing for catfish. Can any guys fishing the UNF lakes advise of restrictions for fishing those lakes?
Try fishing the ponds of butler, fish at your own risk.
I am down off of exit 335 some decent ponds around. The ponds in the communities off bartran parkway and there is an abandon subdivision down there and the business park as well. I tried a couple of the many ponds by the citi bank complex saw people fishing the ones one the way in. Canals over in julington creek look good seen people fishing them. the pond by the park in durbin looks over fished. Gonna try that pond by the preserve since it is fairly close. Will let u know if it is good
Thanks for the suggestions. I'll first hit some of the ponds off Bartram Park since it is closer to my house as well. Hopefully this cloudy weather will stir things up.
I am 25 and looking for a fishing partner or a few. I just moved here from NJ with my pregnant girlfriend (she loves to fish too hopefully our son will too). I live off of race track road and fished a couple ponds around here. Today around 3pm I caught 5 bass within a 40 minute period with the smallest being 2 lbs. I am looking for a couple othe good spots and people to fish with.
Also does anyone know of any bait shops around San Jose Blvd, Phillips Highway, or anywhere close that sell live bait?
Thanks
Hey man u are right around the corner from me and another member. We have some spots that work, looking for more. Message me I would be glad to help u out. Oh congrats on the baby man, I got 3 kids my oldest fishes with me sometimes my 3 yr old talks about it, but he is a mess. I am sure ur boy will be hooked too.
I've got some spots out near the westside of town (whitehouse area) that I'd be happy to share. I'm always looking for more people to fish with but It can be a bit difficult since I don't have a car at the moment.
I've got some spots that hold some good fish though.

Where is the Westside exactly? I am down on Old St. Augustine and 95. Don't get much past Butler except for work.
Im off Hodges and close to UNF...drove around UNF today trying to find a spot but i am not sure where we can fish. Anyone got any spots they would like to share. I wanna do some fishing in the AM.

The lake behind Black Creek Outfitters is a good lake over by the Town Center. You can get to it from the community in the back. Other than that I haven't fished any ponds that way. But if you go past black creek outfitters, I forget the name of the main road, and then you will see an exit for 202 on your right if you keep going down, past the 202 eit, and towards 95 I believe there are some huge lakes over that way. They have been there for years so they definitly hold big fish. I've seen a few people fishing them when I am coming home from the Town Center.
There is a nice pond off of 202 bulter, take Belfort Rd and turn left onto AC Skinner. the business park begins emediately to your right, there is a huge pond drive to the last or second to last entrance. Beware of the big gator. Baymeadows has a park and there are a good number of ponds off of Gate.
Also heard of many folks fishing the ponds near UNF or on campus. That is about all I know that far north. Good luck.
I tried out a couple of the ponds off of Pritchard two nights ago, showed up about 45 minutes before dark, finally caught one little one at the very end...I didn't check out the map from earlier in the thread until later, and wasn't fishing in what seem to be the best ponds. Will probably head back this weekend sometime, its about 10 minutes from my house, so its really convenient.

I see you are on the westside. Talk to Jaxbasser he lives over there and has some spots. A friend of mine who used to live over in Argyle area gave me a spot and I passed it along to him. He got a 4 or 5 pounder out of it.
These are some old farm ponds that have houses built around them now. Take arglye forest to chestwick oaks then left on to spencers plantation. There will be a bunch of condos on your right, a big pond behind them has 7 and 8 pound fish according to the guy that used to live on the farm before it was sold. The oldest pond with the biggest bass is the one on the left past summit drive, directly across from redstone drive with a big tree next to it. He said he caught and released an 11 pounder, his personal best, on live bream under a float. I haven't had the chance to make it there and fish it, take some pics if you land that big one
Awesome, thanks MCS. Quick question...when I go to check out places like these, where should I park? I don't want to park somewhere I'm not supposed to and make people mad, get some no fishing signs posted etc...Do you guys just park on the street? looking at streetview there doesn't seem to be any pull off area's nearby.
Also, sent JaxBasser a PM, doesn't seem like he's been online here since July.
If it was me, I always try to find a public place to park, The condo/townes have guest spots so I would park there, also the road withe to two smaller ponds might be a good spot to park for a couple hours. There was a spot near me that was is similar, people walk their dogs through it etc. everyone just parks outside the gates and walks in. there are some business parks that Jax Basser posted, maybe off 103rd that he fishes. Business/shopping centers parks are good because they have public parking. I deffinitely feel you though and try to be respectful. The place I caught my fish today has a couple ponds, gated to traffic but has ped access so I park down the street at a park or at a business park and walk to it. Yeah I haven't heard from him in a while so I sent him a PM the other day. Dunno whats up.
I've gone out to the Pritchard ponds three times now, have gotten about 5 bass, none of them over 14", Also caught a big dogfish. I think once this rain stops I'll go check out the place in Argyle. Is this the prime time for bass fishing, or does it pick up as we get into the cooler weather? Wondering if the hot weather has been making the big ones a little wary of biting.
Big front coming through. Temps gonna drop expect the bite good until it moves through then it will die for a while. I am planning on Thursday or Friday giving a pond I know was going before a try to see.....once it is consistent in the mid 80's it should be better and move into a "fall" patern. May and beginning of June were pretty good before it hit 90's every day
Man May and June I was killing them! Since all this hot weather and rain I haven't got any fish worth posting a picture of. MCS is right once the temps drop again the fish will be biting again. Also I think they were spawning in May and beginning of June so that is why they were close to shore and very active. I am going to be doing more fishing in the morning though when the temps are low.
I am gonna check out the pond n the corner of Bartrum and Racetrack if anyone wants to meet me there Thursday morning I'll be there around 6:15 am. Let me know
FINALLY! I went fishing for about 2 hours tonight, about an hour in a caught a little largemouth (10 inches), a few minutes later I hooked a nice one that snapped my line...Finally at around dark I caught a nice one, about 18 inches or so with a nice big belly (no scale yet...on the list) it's the first decent largemouth I've caught in Florida, good day.
I already agreed to go fishing for red's Thursday morning or I would come join you AK...good luck!

True good luck with the reds and glad you got a nice fish here in Jax.
If you need a scale go to amazon.com I got my digital berkley scale, weighs up to 50lbs, for $20... I've had it for years and it still works perfectly
hey team! new to the forum, from NE FL as well. Just an FYI the Sports Authority in Regency has a 75% off rack. mostly baits, lines, not much in rods or reels.
Pike hunter, did you get the nice one off of Argyle? Jax area here too, just havent posted in a while. Never done too much at the Pritchard ponds myself either, but heard alot of people talk about them. Just produced dinks for me...

Never realized that there were so many people from Jax on this site
Heading out tomorrow morning looking for some good lakes or ponds to put into. I got a 14 ft jon boat with an 8hp engine so not gonna go tearing it up but want to catch some good fish. Hope everone has a great weekend fishing..

I am not sure how close you are to Veterans Parkway but I know a nice big lake that you can put a boat in that has some double digit fish in them, according to a couple fishermen I was talking to when I was fishing there.
Wow, there are tons of people from Jax on here now.
hows it going team? are the fish biting again!?! i saw the other post about the "summer slump" and had a bad run myself w/ the heat. temps are dropping and starting to cool down but i havent fished in a while. let me know if u guys are having any luck. take care!
I had some luck yesterday. Nothing big but some good numbers. Things should really pick up again in October.
Went out this morning. Same as Jax, numbers but nothing of size. Landed 5 but missed just as many in an hour. Top water plastics, zoom toads and vibe worms seem the best right now early.
i've been fishing when i can maybe about 3 times a week. Other than that I have been working. Lately I have been getting great hits on 5 inch senkos (various colors). My father in law kept making fun of me till i texted him a picture of a 4 pounder i caught before church last sunday. now we are going to hit some ponds up early tomorrow morning around the bartram park area. glad to see everyone being so active.
checked out those ponds off Pritchard today. Did not get one single bite in 2 hours. Fishing an unweighted fluke and a small spinner. Where are the fish? and what are they biting? Gonna try a pond over by the law school this evening.
Whats up guys im back!!! just wanted to let everyone know that lately ive been doin good with Zoom lizards june bug colored and you cant go wrong with watermelon red either. Also since its coolin down a bit ive noticed there back to feeding on small shad in shallower areas I've caught em on shallow runnin cranks and Tsunami blue shad swim baits lately also! Best and most bites have come in the afternoon last hr before dark on the june bug lizard ! hope it helps someone land a big one! Goodluck out there guys and keep postin!!!

What Law school???? The reason i ask is Ive been to one by A law school and got kicked out....
Yeah. The only law school. (FCSL at Baymeadows and 95) I also got ran off yesterday. It's a shame. There are some lunkers in there. Can probably catch em on a bare hook.
Not too far from there is a couple nice ponds right off JTB and 95. look at it on google maps almost due north from that pond, it is on AC Skinner. It connects to a creek, it is in a business park. also there is a small one next to the surgical institute. Also fish early in the morning, no one is up and out or cares to be a dick at 6, 7 or 8 am.

Yea i caught the two in my profile pic there!
hey guys love bass fishing, just started back up off for about 3yrs... where are the hot spots at thx,,,looking for fishing buddies
Went out to a small pond near my house and the fish we absolutely crushing my bluegill lipless crankbait. I caught around 12 in an hour or so, including this one.
nice fish.....what pond was that??
On Chaffee road right where you get off of I-10 there is a Holiday Inn, it's from the pond right beside it. It's walking distance form where I live.
ook cool thx,
Jaxbasser and I did work today at the publix distribution center off beaver we caught a dozen or so missed some lunkers ( of course ) he used bluegill lipless crankbait and i used zoom speed craws. Junebug and green pumpkin majic. Not a bad day at all.
Yeah it was a pretty good afternoon of fishing, especially for November. Really didn't expect the fish to be that active. That one that threw my crankbait was a really nice fish, probably around 5 pounds or so.
Nice work guys.
Got a couple missed a nicer one today on the blugill shad flukes. Cold this morning, 50 is too F-ng cold for me, I think I need to move further south. LOL nothing on popper or weightless trick worm. when I worked the fluke fast was what they seemed to like....slow was a no go.
just came from the big lake at the park on baymeadows got 3 1 about 4 o 5# other about 2#...anyone down for some fishing today
Hello all. I am a bass fisher and I primarily fishout of my bass boat but I want to find some local ponds because boat fishing is not always time feasable. I live off of Gate and Belfort and have seen you guys posting about ponds over here. I drove down AC Skinner from Belfort today scouting and noticed that big pond on the right and a few smaller ponds on the left. Are those good? Also are there any more good ones over in my area. I havent tried the one behind West Marine or Black Creek but I have seen you guys talk about it. Anyone wanting to get up I am down. Thanks for the advice. Looks like I found a great forum here with some good people. I am gonna try it early in the morning. What about the ponds off JTB where 95 is behind the Applebees and all where all those businesses are. And down Gate heading towards the town center. I see ponds everywhere.
I've fished a few ponds over in that area and caught some fish, especially in the ones where Kernan runs into Butler. There are also some good spots around/in the UNF area as well.
It's a pretty good ways from where I'm at though so I don't fish there often.
Whereabouts on Kernan. I will be coming from JTB so when I get off on Kernan where are the ones to fish?
I'm not that familiar with the area so this map would probably be more help lol. I fished these 3 ponds with a buddy and caught some decent fish. This was about 2 years ago though.

I have fished the big one on the right business park once. Talked to a guy fishing also when i was there he said it has bass and a gator. I fished it early summer, June, and haven't gotten a chance to get back up that way. I fished the area closest to skinner but looking on google earth there are some nice areas around back. Me and my buddy have been meaning to get up there and try it out again. I will let u know if we do.
Thanks for the tips. I pond hopped all day. Started out at the big business pond on AC Skinner and did not get a bite. Went across the street to that small pond by the surgery center and caught one on a crankbait. Didn't spend much time there. Went down to Southpoint off of Belfort and there is a huge pond there. Caught 4 all on Carolina rig there with one going about 3 pounds. All the others were 1-1.5 lbs. Went from there to Baymeadows/9A Park and did not get a bite. There wasnt much room to get around that pond from the bank as most of it is grown up around it. Thats my day. 5 fish total and about 7 bites. Did more scouting than anything. I will post pics of my biggest.
Nice fish.
What time were u out? We hit a spot at 645 left around 830 with 1 between us and a couple misses. But the pond down the street had them bust bait and my buddy landed 3 small ones. Said they were done by 930. Pressure was up and down today. Hoping Monday or Tuesday is good, they have that front coming through. It is gonna be tough for me to get out but want to so bad. Lol
I would think skinner would hold some decent fish, it also flows to a creek. I think though it might have some pretty heavy pressure and if people keep them. And u can really only acess that one side.
I was out there from about 7 - 1. Yea it looks good across that Skinner pond where I'm sure there isn't much pressure. I am gonna try and go some more this week. It is easier fishing those ponds on the weekends though for sure. I was impressed with that one off Southpoint. I was thinking of hitting that big one on the right when you hit Gate from Southside like going to the Towncenter.
Anyone fished lately? I hit that Kernan pond last week for about an hour. No bites. Took my boat to Rodman on Friday when it was so cold. Caught 5 and had 7 bites. Nothing really big but I missed a nice one about 4-5 lbs.
Wed and Thursday was at a pond down the street for time sake. Getting 3 or so in 45-1 hr on grubs. They were small, fiesty little guys, looked like their bellies were about to pop. Today couple of puny strikes. Try tomorrow maybe.
Fished a couple of small ponds today. Casting to the deepest parts with a 1/8 oz Texas rigged lizard, picking up on the first or second big hop after the initial fall. Landed 2 the biggest was maybe 1.5-2 pounds and didn't get a good hookset on a third and lost it in about 30 to 40 mins, the second pond I fished for about 15 to 20 minutes and got nothing.
It was a crazy weather week with the wind and rain. I was gonna go Saturday but the wind was too bad. Plan on going Tuesday to the ponds and Wednesday to Rodman. Let yall know how I do. What color lizard were you throwing. I have been catching most of mine on a Watermelon red flake Senko.

New to this forum. Usually fish some base ponds for bass but looking to fish local ponds. Live around Atlantic/Kernan.
Did ok this morning. 1/8 oz. T-rigged Watermelon Zoom Lizards! Had 3 on, landed one, had a nice one and had it 10 feet from shore, jumped and spit the bait out. I didn't even have it hooked, the lizard hooked itself. That sucker held on for a while, good fight lol.My buddy fishing with me saw the whole thing and I showed him the lizard and couldn't believe it either.
MCS,
I have heard pretty good things about the pond behind Publix at Beach and Kernan. Have you been pretty successful there? I want to give it a try soon.
That's not the one I fish, but try it. I am down south my publix pond is Old st Aug n Bartram Prk blvd. I can usually catch dinks to 1 pound average and every once in a while hook a nice 3-4 pounder. My pond is big enough to have places I can't always reach from shore, it can be tough to get quality. I dunno what is up by u man I hear UNF and some ponds on butler/ kernan are good. Some guys fish around the town center and off gate/bay meadows there are ponds and a park. I don't venture that far north so can't really help ya too much.
I wasnt able to go Tuesday but I went yesterday to Rodman. I caught three on Carolina rig with a Senko. It was nice early which is when I caught the fish Had 4 bites but the wind picked up at 10 and it was rough. I came home about noon. Gonna try to go either to ponds or to Sant Fe Sunday.
Navybass where on base do you fish? I am Coast Guard so I have access to those as well. I live not far from you. I havnt tried the Publix pond yet. I went to the one on Beach and San Pablo thinking it was there and could not find it. I tried the one at Kernan and JTB a couple weeks ago but no luck. I have seen people fishing there.
Bama,
I fish the ponds up in Kings Bay where I am stationed mostly. They have about 12 ponds up there. One is huge that I like to fish, you really need a john boat and trolling motor. It is probably 100 acres. Largest bass I know out of there is about 16 lbs. Lot's of smaller bass in the ponds but if you know how to get the big ones to bite, well worth it.
Hi there,
I moved to Jacksonville in July. I never knew where to fish till I found this thread. I live only 5 minutes from the Westside Industrial Park. I tried numerous ponds this morning but no luck at all; I did not get one bite. I know that all areas of the country respond to different techniques. What have you found to be successful out here? I was fishing a Zoom Trick Worm (Watermelon Seed). This was my favorite tactic at Fort Stewart, GA. Somedays I would catch so many bass I would need a second bag of worms. This morning wasn't so good. Any advice would be appreciated. The ponds look like a treasure trove though.

I love trick worms as well, red shad, junebug, junebug chart tip, baitfish are mainly what I use, worked good fishing weightless in the summer havent beens so productive of late. Weightless stick baits. Zoom Flukes or other soft jerk baits work well too. Spring and summer horny toads or vibe worms, buzzbait a on top. Right now been having luck with grubs on 1/16 or 1/8 jig head or Texas rigged plastics with 1/8 oz.
wacky rigged centipedes. Rooster tails if u have some open water. Hope it helps good luck.
Thanks for the advice. I went back out to the Westside industrial park and tried Texas rigged worms. No luck there either. I really like to stick with the soft baits rather than lures. I have braided line since my pole was set up for fishing in weeds. Back in Georgia I would cast over 10 feet of weeds to fish a hole and have to drag the bass back through the weeds. I prefer to put on a high quality worm hook and flip a weightless trick worm. I can put a couple of bags in my pockets with pliers and knife and go. No need to carry a tackle box.
I have some rooster tails. How are spinners and crank-baits out here? The ponds at the industrial park are all really wide open water.

I've always had good luck with watermelon red lizards and junebug red down here. I caught a 4.5 on a topwater frog and a 5 lber on junebug red t-rigged a few weeks ago! also watermelon or watermlon red senko always produce for me around reeds and pads!

Rooster tails will get u fish. Small bass and blue gill. Cranks, my son uses small ones with success, other use cranks but I don't really. I heard lipless cranks are the way to go down here. The only hard baits I really use are pop-r, jitter bugs, sometimes rapala minnows and a bomber long a. Pop-r really cleaned up post spawn.

Junebug red flake rattlesnakes got me my two biggest this year. It is my favorite color. Anything in any junebug color is a good one though. I didn't have any success on watermelon red mag trick worms. But recently watermelon seed is go to for me. So I am liking watermelon more now.
I'll get me a pop-r and give it a try tomorrow and I will let you know how it worked.
My boy n' me hit the pond JaxBasser mentioned over by the Chaffee rd. Holiday inn with no success. Tried bluegill colored lipless cranks and I tried a bomber 1a squarebill oxbow bream color, and even threw the ol' bass crack (senko) with no luck. We hit the one directly beside Holiday Inn and the one accross the street as well. Must have just been an off day...The bigger lakes have been producing better for me (Palestine and Ocean pond). We did hit a pond near my work (CSX) off of pritchard road when you go over the overpass for the railyard heading toward 295 and caught 4 in about an hour all on watermelon/black senkos. Nothin big, dinks upto bout 1.5lbs but still fun. Hope ya'll are all doin well. Hopin to get my jonboat onto palestine real soon here.
I hit the ponds at the westside Industrial park two days in a row and no luck. I talked to a couple people I seen there and they were getting skunked also. Must be the weather. I will keep trying. Trust me, when I finally hit it big, everyone will know.

Sunrise, depending on when the sunrise is right now it is says 705 am. I am out there usually an hour before that. Best time today was 6:30ish-7 maybe 7:15. and I left at 7:45. I almost always fish the mornings due to work/schedules.

Not that one some random one near it off butler and belfort post office business park
Well been out Wed, Thurs and today. Got Sunked before the front Wed, temps dropped lows in the high 30's Got a couple under 12" on a daiwa rainbow trout jerk bait yesterday, 39 this morning had only one bite and land this morning but I will take it. She was had on a Grande bass rattlesnake, trophy hunter color, w/ 1/16 oz bullet t-rig. One of the prettiest fish I have had the pleasure to catch, all the fins and tail were perfect, no rips. Mouth didn't have any holes in it, nice healthy fish. Measured 22.5 inches and came in at about 4 and a quarter on my little old zebco spring scale.
Hey there everyone, the names Joey. New to the forum here and only been doing serious bass fishing for a year now. I've been tearing up the fish management areas around town, but I need some more locations to hook a hog or two. I've been to the pritchard ponds with no luck and also to the pond by Holiday Inn on Chaffee with nothing. Hoping to hear from someone with some good direction. Thanks a ton!
Looking for anyone interested in doing some pond fishing around the UNF area. Let me know if interested.

Ended up fishing the base ponds. Caught about 10 yesterday with one 4 lbs 4 ounces. Had caught about 30 off the banks last Thursday and Friday. Had one over 2 lbs, 1 over 3 lbs and 1 monster. Came up and rolled, saw his/her huge white belly. Went deep and got off. I would say between 6-10 lbs from what I saw. I was crushed.

You know it don't take much to get no trespassing signs put up cuz people are there everyday. I personally only picked one spot off here so that is not my game either, my best spots other than that one have been google earth, common sense and trial and error. I will be more than willing to give u a spot in OP a buddy who lived there fished cuz I dont make it over there or let u know what's working for me

I think we all can help each other out here. I know you guys were very helpful when I first joined and pointed me in the right direction. MCS is always posting what he used and what was working and if you look back on this thread has listed several spots to fish. Some people just don't know where to go much like I was when I came here.
I will catch both y'all tomorrow, check ur in box in the morning.
Fished the pond behind publix at beach and kernan for about an hour today. Caught one bass on the second cast, had really nice color to him. Hit it as it was falling to the bottom. Didn't even know he was there until started to reel it in. That is all I got. That was the first time I have fished that pond. There is a lot of trash all around the edges. Anyone else fish there and have any luck?

Working man. fishing is over for me by 7:15 except on weekends. early bird catches the worm.
Any luck. buddy got 9 there all under 12" yesterday. Hard to pull anything over a 2 pounds out, only done that 2 times.
Still fun little pond, boat would be helpful probably.
I caught one last night around 6 but he was a baby...a canoe or boat or something prob would be nice
What are you throwing? What side are you fishing?
Some yamato worms on the side closer to publix
The majority we have been hooking are in the the 10-13 inch range and are fatty and feisty though.
will get a 6-8" in there.

Things are really starting to pick up. Been catching good numbers my last few trips out.
They were good to me as well a couple of weeks ago but last week for me was slow. Will be back at it later in the week. Will let everyone know how I did.
They were HOT today. Caught at least 10 in two hours of fishing. On was a solid 3-4 pounds. They were killing Rage Lizards and Bed Bandits.

Good to know. Gonna give me lizards a try along with a couple new things I picked up.
took tomorrow off work so I will be on the pond all day. Will hit the predawn bass with buzzbaits till get a little light. If fishing is slow, will shift to worms/lizards. Will let everyone know how I do.
Anyone ever bass fished at night? I am thinking of getting to the pond about 4 in the morning. Never fished at night so don't have a clue what to use. My first thought is a buzz bait! Any recommendations would be appreciated.
Did alot of bass fishin at night last spring due to bein in the navy myself. Usually from about 9 to midnight caught 17 in an hr one night using worms and lizards a foot of the bank but that was in march and april. Good luck where ya fishin?
And rebel poppers worked good too but i think any night fishin is best during a full moon but i did a lot of spot fishin with a flash light just find em... back off a min and then hit that spot theyll b there!

Always heard full moon was best but I take what I can get with fishing. Appreciate the tip on night fishing, will try those recommendations and let yall know how I do.
Gave my new pick up from BPS a workout this morning. Bandit 100 in purple tiger, did well 2 misses and 2 hook ups in about 45 minutes. My buddy had some luck on a ghost husky jerk. It was a beautiful morning, breezy and 70 degrees. Hope the forcasts are wrong about friday and saturday night.
Wow, had a great day. I went fishing alone and was on the water at 5:45 this morning. By 9 I had about 8 or 9 bass. All on topwater green torpedo. Saw a guy catch a 4 lb 14 oz bass on a rapala so I shifted to the rapala and caught about 6 bass. Around lunchtime shifted to pumpkin seed lizard and caught about 4 or 5 in an hour. Caught about 4 more on a red eye shad. At about 2:15 caught 2 crappie on my red eye shad. So I shifted to my crappie rig and slayed them. Caught about 50 nice crappie in about 2.5 hours within about 40 feet of each other. So at the end of the day, I would say I caught about 70-80 total fish. It was awesome. Hopefully this front won't turn them off.

Been good man and U? Same old same old family, fishing and work. Looking forward to the warmer weather at the end of this week. Monday was brutal, got notta but my son was off school so I had time to fish before work.
I've been good I have just been hanging out with my son it's amazing it seems like every day he learns something new.

Yeah man I am about to have number 4 in June, a little girl. At least I will be able to enjoy spawn lol last year I was moving in march.
I went to a different spot right up the street.
I haven't caught anything worth posting in my back yard.
I caught 3 biggest being 2.5. I lost a nice one though I would definitely say it was over 4. I got it about 10 feet from shore and then it got off.
I am going out again tomorrow if anyone wants to meet me at a good spot right on race track road

Went again today. Caught about 25 crappie and about 15 bass. No 1 bait working for me. Biggest bass caught on a fluke. A couple on red eye shad. None on the jerkbait I had luck with earlier in the week.
Went out this morning to my spot up the street around 7:15 for 2.5 hours landed 6 and missed 5. Most were 2lb and biggest was 3.4
this was my best today, 4 in all pics on profile

Saw the pic how much did it weigh?
didn't weight it but i guess 3 to 4 lb
I went out today from 1 to 2:30 and killed it 14 total. My biggest being 4.7, caught two that were 4, 6 between 2.8 and 3.8. And the rest were smaller.
I'm going out to my spot again in the AM ill post pics when I get back.
New to the forum. What are your go to baits in muddy water? The rain has the water looking like chocolate milk in some places. I am in the Kernan area
I fished last Sat and the water was pretty stirred up and mirky, windy and just rained the night before. I used a Kissimee blue Gambler 10" ribbon tail with the best success, 1/8 oz weight did get one on a watermelon seed lizard. My buddy was using a rootbeer gold falke with chart tip bass assasin and got some nice fish on that. Most the time the water si pretty clear so that is about all the info I have.
Watch the video on here about water clarity and lure selection its very informative. Best colors for muddy is dark like black and june bug!
Went to Rodman most of the day today and then came back and hit my pond off Belfort for a bit. Caught 4 in an hour on the same bait I used at Rodman. Caught around 15 at Rodman. Got this big 6.6 and also had a 4 and a 3. I limited out by 11:00 a.m. but she bit at 2:30. Shad crankbait. Stop and Go retrievel.
That's a nice fish man!
I've been killing them the past couple days. I was out today from 1 to 4 and caught 28 fish. Only 6 were under 12 inches. Caught a bunch of 3 pounders biggest being 4.4. The day before that I caught 15 in a 2 hour period. All at my spot up the street.
Last year I was killing it in my backyard pond but so far I haven't caught anything worth taking a pic up when last year I was posting pics left and right of big ones, I don't kno what happened to em all
Me and a buddy caught 45 crappie in about 2.5 hours this afternoon. Didn't even give the bass a chance to bite. Caught on green twister tailed grubs.
Does anyone now of anywhere to catch some crappie in the Jacksonville area I know a few good bass holes but I would like to catch some slabs.
no i dnt but if you could be so nice as to inbox me some bess spots, i would be very happy lol
Caught these on feb 28th. Caught 7 that day all but one over 2.5 lbs.

Was just down at 9A/Baymeadows Park and saw 5 HUGE fish at the back of the lake where the park, condo complex and car dealership meet. The fish looked like they were bass but I couldn't make them out from the distance i was standing at. Stood out on the bank casting for about an hour and didn't get a single bite from anything... Where else can I go around here???

99% sure those were grass carp you saw they resemble spawning bass in the water and most ponds in jacksonville have them! You can catch them on bread balls floating on the top of the water. That's the only thing ive ever heard them biting on.

Just about every pond that you see from the road holds some fish. Don't discount the size of the pond. I have caught fish up to 9lbs and I ONLY fish retention ponds. Find a safe place to park and start casting. There are lots of places off 9a and JTB to fish. Good luck.
Has anybody on here ever fished the Westside Industrial Park
I tried fishing the pond in some apartments today... no luck again! I didn't get out until about 10:30 but it felt early enough. I see people fishing that pond all the time but I've never seen anyone pulling anything out. Anyone here ever fished the pond between Bentley Green and Princeton Square apartments and had luck? Also, the pond over by BCO... where's the best spot to hit on that pond? I saw a bunch of paddleboarders out there this morning, but they were being loud so I decided not to stay. The BCO dock looks like a good spot, nice foliage in the corners for bass to hide in...
Went out by Ponte Vedra fished a pond off of a road on A1A saw 3 gators and caught my personal best 6.10lbs

Fish are hitting hard and fast lately. I love this time of the year.

Thats cuz so many people are keeping what they catch....witnessed a couple guys bucket fishing this weekend.
Who wants to eat fish out a retention pond, I dunno but there is no balance, taking some is good but they fish it to extinction. No limits or lengths abided.
Went to lake george this weekend didnt catch many but i caught this nice one! She weighed in at 6 lbs 2oz. Looks bigger tho!

Nice fish man! What were u using and looks like u caught it on a boat? How far is Lake George?
Thanks! I was using a mini bleeding shad rattle trap. Its about 1.5 hrs southof here right past palatka.
Greetings fellow Jax bassers. New to the forum and area, any news on the Beach Blvd. small business park lakes? Went to Deerwood/Baymeadows area a couple weeks ago fishing one of the small ponds off Phillips Hwy and was run off by a contract security guard working the complex there. He said all of Deerwood Park is off limits....was hoping to find a more out of the way, less visible type of lake with decent bank access. I've heard the UNF lakes hold an occasional lunker, others have tried the Mayo Clinic...thinking that would be good before the heavy algae starts to appear. Does the Mayo Clinic have any restrictions, or has anyone had an issues with fishing the grounds there? Tight lines, sharp hooks and releasing the lunkers....
Does the Mayo Clinic have any restrictions, or has anyone had an issues with fishing the grounds there? Tight lines, sharp hooks and releasing the lunkers....
They dont allow it and security will run you off. Which ponds off of Beach Blvd are you talking about?
Pondslayer took me over by te Mayo Clinic without any problems. That was back in summer I think we were fishing around 5:30 6 and stayed til dark. I think I remember him saying that he got kicked out of there one time.
In my opinion all lakes/ponds are fair game as long as they have no signs saying no fishing.
There is this complex over by south side blvd, it might be deerwood, that has a security gate I just told him I visiting a friend that lives there, off of Fairfield Street (there is no Fairfield street) and he lets me in. I have been there 6 times and only had to mention Fairfield the first two times. That's a good way to get in those nice complex ponds but making sure a street actually is in there would probably be beneficial.
Tightlines, referring to the area at 9A/Beach Blvd, between Beach Blvd and Central Parkway...didn't know whether they are considered UNF lakes and/or subject to restrictions.
Thanks for the reply AK-NJ1986, I usually don't fish midday, but wouldn't at a high visible property like the Mayo Clinic....It may be hit or miss with seeing security or maybe depends if someone complains that particular day about someone fishing there. Some of the those gated communities may have a resident list at the front gate with an associated address, might be tough to put 2 and 2 together....I guess you've been lucky so far...
Funny you said that about the list because I found a nice residential spot that has a back enterance for residents and a gated enterance for guests and deliveries. So I followed someone in and fished at this pond. Old guy came up to me talking about fishing I told him I wasn't from the community and he gave me his name and address so I can get in at gate whenever, nice guy.
So you could try to ask someone in there or you can always check someone's mail to get their last name. Don't let people see you though

i've never fished those but i'm interested in trying them out. when are you planning on going?
Has anyone ever tried fishing the big ole lake at Mariners Wharf in Orange Park? I went fishing there last night and hooked up with about 10 bass in an hour on t rigged senkos. Apparently there's some monsters in there too.

No, but someone else told me about it too. The dude that has the golf course access, haven't seen him post in a while.
Anybody know about the Whitey's Fish Camp bass tournament? I think it was today. I didn't enter because I don't have a boat or know anyone with one. I was going to go check it out weigh in was at 3 but with all the rain I decided not to go. I wonder if they had it or not.
There is another bass fishing tournament that's being done through a children's hospital that I was thinking about entering just need to find a boat or partner with a boat. The prize money is substantial as well. Anyone interested in splitting entry fee and a boat rental, not sure where u can rent boats but I've been looking. I think it's $90 to enter and 2 people to a boat. And I believe it is sometime in May
I know some of the few guys that fish bass at work enter but these guys have been doing it a while. It goes for a good cause.
Another tourney you should check out is the el cheapo. You can find a boat for that one, and I hear it is super fun.
the el cheapo is a sheepshead tourney and it was a couple weeks ago.

Man good morning today got 6 fish in an hour and 15 all between 13-17 inches.
Thought that the 3 days of cold would have killed it but no, some were really shallow a foot or two of water.
7556 Salisbury Rd, Southpoint community church. Has a huge lake behind it. I was in training down in Jax last year at this time. Caught my Personal Best out of it.

It was a great day they were hitting on top water and I was using a 3feet diving blue and orange rapala that the big ones crushed.
I will post a few pics when I get back to my computer and upload them

I do some fishing in ponte vedra that pond you are talking about with the cypress stumps hold some nice fish. I pulled out a bunch of 3s and two 4 lbs out of there. You can park by the tennis courts and fish there they won't bother you as long as you clean up. There is another lake on that road that I pulled a 6lb 10 oz out of an saw a bunch others around that size swimming around.

I always have a toughter time with no moons weeks in and out. Goose eggs the last two times, monday and wed but today I had a couple in an hour and a couple misses in an hour. So maybe the luck is changing to our favor.
I had a good day today I went out at around 11:30 when if was raining a little and I caught 4 in a hour. Went back out around 3:30 until 7 and I pulled in 25 with only 6 being smaller than 2lbs. It was a good day I pulled in some nice 3s and 1 4lb.

I am about to go out to do some fishing before it gets dark ill post anything worth showing
I went out the other night caught a few nothing too big biggest weighed was 2.4.
Went out this morning with a strike king swimming jig 1/4 oz with a strike king rodent in black neon and killed them. I was out for about 2 hours and I caught 12 biggest was just over 3 lbs. I missed a bunch too.
Caught these 2 at the same time on an umbrella rig
Then got these two on a swim jig with a rage craw.
All this rain we've been having past week is well needed but boy do I miss those nice sunny fishing days. I checked out my spot today and the water level has raised a bunch. I have a feeling the first nice day we get the fish are going to be going crazy, hopefully
Went out yesterday morning, got 3 and missed 3 in 45 including a 19". Not too wet or windy for the fish. LOL
Got this one yesterday near Town Center
Hey man... There is a pond with nothing but, Specs in St. John's. It is on the same side as Liberty Pines Elementry /Middle school. Right past Liberty pines. not even 1/4 mile there is a big lake on the right before the subdivision entrance. Park on the grass and go over the fence and good luck. Plenty of nice specs.

Things been going to that summer pattern lately oh so slow n weightless. U been to Walmart lately? One on Phillips had spooks, rebels and bomber saltwater plastics for $2.50
I was just in that one. Didn't even go to the tackle section though.
Was at Hanna Park for a beach trip for the first time today and noticed the huge lake there. It looks like a great bass lake. Anyone fished there in the past and can you put a john boat and trolling motor in there? Any help appreciated. Thanks.
I'm stationed at mayport and have Bass fished the lake a few times from the bank with no luck... But I have heard that there are some nice bass in it! im not sure if you can put a john boat in or not but i wouldnt see the problem i know you can rent paddle boats from the lil marina there. Be advised that the water is brackish which ive never had much luck bass fishin but i know ppl that have! Good luck! if im not mistaken you were stationed at kings bay right? hows the lake up there? i heard you could rent boats is that true?

we went out there in kayaks and caught a 30 pound catfish and a about 20-30 bass between the 4 of us during sunrise
we got the boot when 2 dudes showed up in bass boat and said we needed "permission" to be on these waters
lake was so big we could barely see each other but these two dudes wanted it all to themselves, they were super rude about it too.

Yeah duval or city of jax will have a government website. You will find the phone numbers or direct access to a tax map there.
I dunno, some people might just want to be ***** about it and keep people out. But good for you doing your homework and following through on it, and if it is true you might have yourself a top spot or atleast stay out of trouble.
If you are doing the kyak thing I hear there are a few spots to launch around the big linked ponds in tinsel town.
The guy at work does it all the time and there are sooooo many properties etc they can't boot him. Plus it classifies as a waterway which falls under state owner/maintence, but incase you want to check talk to FWC.

looks like it's owned by a man named SKINNER ARTHUR CHESTER on the tax records, maybe i'll write him a letter or call him up and ask nicely
man i tell ya, if the people in this world were HALF as awesome as you fellers on here the earth would be a much nicer place
less fish in it maybe but a much nicer place haha!

no it's the bigger one back there
it's one of the oldest and biggest bodies of freshwater back in those parts
i'd venture to say it's got the biggest fish around, but yeah you need a little kayak or something to get out into the deep
Hey guys, I'm new to JAX and I want to have a fishing partener and to know about some good places to fish in.

Fall fishing is upon us. Anyone had any luck. Will start fishing the ponds on base the next couple of weeks. Will post what I am catching them on or if I am even catching them yet!

Check out the Florida Bragging Club (Novemer 2013) thread. A bunch of us FL guys have been doing this for months and it's a fun way to share our catches and info on our techniques and approach. We have a bunch of good guys over there headed by BassinLou he brings it altogether so it's organized. Check it out I'm sure you will enjoy it if you choose to participate
Yeah what he said lol
thanks for the insight, I am in.

Looking for a couple of fishing buddies I just moved to this area from japan I live in Mandarin
There's a nice pond on Phillips Highway off of 295 and you have to get to it from 295 and turn into it before you take the right onto phillips. I have caught many three and four pounders there
Trying to get this forum started up again here in Jax. Caught 2(2.1lb and 1.4lb) this morning at the pond behind Publix at Beach/Kernan. Pulled a 5lber out of there 2 weeks ago on buzz bait. Anyone else having any luck.
No jax is dead head to lake dexter that is where all the action is in the NE lol
hey guys, I went down to the industrial park this weekend. No luck. I tried all the ponds you circled. I was using a plastic worm. Any suggestions? or new places? thanks.
I haven't had any luck out there in a long time. It used to be my best spot but it's just been dead.
where would you suggest I try?
The ponds off Gran Bay pkwy near baptist south has tons of bass. Nothing to crazy but just tonight I scored about 15+ bass in 30 minutes. All the ponds are spring fed so the water is pretty clear. I was using a pumpkin seed zoom worm with a 1/8 oz weight on the head. Just reeled in quick while making the worm dance with a little pop every now and then. I know of a pond back behind the FBI building...just need a boat to get in. 10 pounders for sure

Just to clarify they are not spring fed. They are just clear retention ponds. There are a few others around. alot depends on the outlet structure and if it keeps the water moving. Small fish are typical because most these ponds down here are newer built in 2007. Biggest I got outta there was 3 pounds. But ton of little fish, fun spot I take my boys there. If your looking for bigger fish, the FBI is in the right area. North got older ponds, check out the Tinseltown area, them ponds connect with big under road culverts. Google earth it.
Hi, I can vouch for bream in Gran Bay. I fish a few retention ponds in Mandarin, St. Augustine Rd FMA once or twice and a couple parks off San Jose Blvd. Julington creek when the boat works. Lots of great info on here. I'll be sure to share some when I find a pond to write home about.
Are there any fishing friendly golf course's in Jax? I like to fly fish, most ponds around dont have room to cast from the bank.
Where is the pond off 295?
Is the pond behind publix still good?
ever had any luck in julington creek for bass?? Ive been thinking about putting my boat in there but worried its too brackish. Fished Governers creek down in Green Cove last weekend not knowing much about it and had a guy at the boat ramp tell me bass are few and far between bc of the brackish water. Saw a bunch of Gar in there and that's never a good sign lol

Isnt the FBI building the one that's posted for no fishing?? Or am I thinking of something else. If its fishable I like the sound of 10lbers and places for small boats

Think your thinking of the of the law school bud. Your two amigos SHOULD know. So confusion on the particular pond but any on that road is al right
I've heard good things about the bass fishing in Julington Creek. Put in at Clarks Fish Camp and fish back towards the back of the creek.

Yes back durbin and julington nothing but pads and mats, pics from google earth, in there. confrimed by a buddy at work has a boat fished tourneys, working man, also told me spots from madrin park and doctors lake.
I went out this morning and managed to catch one but it was a nice one though. Can I get a estimate on how much she weighed. I didn't get a measurement because I was trying a new pond and I didn't wanna keep it out of the water for too long.

Nice fish Dude!! Did your new tat must have paid off for a measurement.
There's a big pond next to the fscj building on beach blvd. I caught a 4 pounder and lost another of equal or bigger size throwing worms up against the building portion that's in the water. Haven't tried the other side of the pond yet
I can vouche for the publix pond I caught four nice ones in there. Two on the patches of lily pads. They still have beds they are sitting on in there
Lol I think my son brings me the luck. I was just telling him I would rather catch that one big fish this morning besides 20 dinks. Then 5 minutes later this one hits my frog. He loves to see the top water bite but I think it excites me more.On 4/18/2014 at 9:38 PM, BassinLou said:Nice fish Dude!! Did your new tat must have paid off for a measurement.

Nice!! A big girl like that on a frog is special indeed. WTG!!
I'll have to try it out sometime. I've been to Clark's several times and just thought it was to far north on the river. Doctors lake is a little big for my current size boat.

Nope. Got all kinds stories n spots from this guy. Now I wouldn't head in towards downtown much farther. And if your fishing doctors especially your libal to catch just as many reds.....wait til it is hot n roll back up julington and hit the mats and pads. Here is one he told me they launched outta mandrin and they fish the grass line of the old folks home with the waterfall caught something like 15-20 to place pretty high. There's fish. I think if you stay back in like Clark's and durbin you would have too much trouble navigating. You ever drive from 13 julington creek road you can see all the small feeder creeks and people have small boats and docks.
So your saying you'd launch up at the 13 bridge and work towards Clark's rather than launch down at Clark's? My boats only 10ft w a trolling motor I could definitely navigate the area as far as I can see around Clark's. I saw some of the small creeks off the main water on google earth I'd definitely hit those.

Either. Both are options, I am saying if you launch at 13 you don't need to go too far. Just gives you different fishing options, styles and scenery

I'm up in jax for the next few weeks for work, originally from west palm. I tried that industrial park on the beginning of the post but didn't have so much as a bite. I'm staying in the extended stay on butler off 95. Tried a lake across the street with no luck but went out to big island swamp yesterday afternoon and caught a pig. If anyone has any good spots near by or wants to go fishing I'd like the company.
I've really been looking for natural ponds around town...I just drive and look. I will have to check out the tinseltown places....I found a pond off off atlantic in the back of sutton lakes...pretty big! I walked the whole pond, found a bass top feeding, casted on it and it bit instantly. was about 5 lbs and was healthy! However I caught a bass that was all cut up from teeth marks...scary

Just letting everyone on this forum in the Jacksonville area know my buddy and I have been fishing Sundays lately and doing really well even with the high temps. Last week we caught about 20 fish between the 2 of us and each caught our new personal bests. It was a great day. I try and stay around the Southside area because I hate to drive too far and be unproductive. Got a lake at my shop with great numbers and a few verified 6lbers in it. Good thing is there are only about 2 people who fish it because you have to have a key card to get in. Just bought a 13ft square back canoe and having some work done to add fiberglass benches and storage boxes. Just need to get the trolling motor. Can't wait to get her in the water in these small ponds and lakes. Always looking for new fishing buddies willing to meet up. I like early mornings usually. PM me for contact info if you're interested in swapping spots or meeting up.

willing to take someone out with me to fish lake off of ricker rd. (private jea property with 8 houses on it) My friend rents a house on the backside and we trenched his backyard all the way to the lake. I have fished towncenter and all of skinners lakes. He will run you off unless he knows you. I live in OP. I just moved back from orlando and this lack of lakes is killing me! I have predator and I am not afraid of traveling. Also I can get us on asbury every now and then, I spray a guys yard on the lake and he occasionally lets me get out there! awesome lake! Looking for some public access lakes and some new fishin buddies. Would be cool to get a few pond hoppers out there one dday and have a little 20$ tourney!
Forgot to post in here about this...
I created a group on Facebook called Jacksonville Bass Anglers for us local guys to talk about what's working/techniques, post our catches, and link up with eachother. We have about 50 members so far a bunch from this site, I sent out a few PM.
We plan to hold a couple bank tournaments through convos we have found 3 spots that would be ideal for a bunch of people to bank fish. Depending on how many people we get it would probably be $25 or so and take like $5-$10 to go to the big fish. Eventually we would like to try to go the route of forming a Bass Fishing Club but that would be down the road.
So check it out just search for Jacksonville Bass Anglers on Facebook
[if this is against the forum rules I apologize and you can delete this. I sent 2 of you a PM before I went on vacation and to my understanding it wasn't but if I was wrong I am sorry]
Ok all, I'm new to the boards and getting into some bass fishing in the area. I am still a newbie looking for any advice. I was born and raised in Jax (Arlington) and still live in area so I try to stick to the general area when looking for places to fish. I just wanted to share that the ponds/lakes around Eastpark/UNF (across from FSCJ on Beach Blvd) have landed me some decent 2-3 pounders and have had several people tell me there are much bigger fish in these ponds. I was wondering what kind of luck others have had here?? Also, is anyone familiar with ponds off Corporate Square Blvd (runs south off Atlantic Blvd) by IHOP. I found a spot on west side of Corporate Square a few blocks south of Atlantic that borders apartments on Caravan Cir. It looks promising with lots of lily pads, etc. and I know it's an older area so figured might be some good sized fish in there. Anyone know the area or had any luck there? I haven't fished it yet.
MCS, think it was you who suggested Belfort & AC Skinner Pkwy pond (Liberty Business Park) off JTB just wanted to say thanks!! I went out there couple nights ago and did really well, 4lb was biggest but a lot 2-3lb too...no fishing signs are posted but I fished from 5pm-9pm without anyone saying anything, it's all business around there anyway so don't think they cared

Just to be clear. The other side by the warehouse doesn't have any "no fishing" signs I don't fish much past the canal into the the lake you fish due to the signs being posted. Glad to hear the spot produced. It gets hit pretty hard as do most around.
Anyone still monitoring this thread? Anyone having any luck anywhere or is it just too hot? I'm leaving Publix Beach/Kernan now, caught one lil 1lb dink in about hour and a half and that was on a strike king red eye chili craw color lipless crank that never got touched again. I have been skunked past few times I've been out. No luck what so ever on top water stuff at dusk til dark either.
im fishing oceanway tomorrow morning and would love some company. My first time at this lake. Its supposed to be crystal clear and deep, with lots of grass. I have 10ft pond hopper predator and trolling motor. Two rods a person, your box, and a cooler full of beer is all she can hold comfortably. I also am down to try some intracoastal fishing now that the shrimp are in the river. Not trying to test my boat in some tides, looking for spots with a short distance from bank to spot. Up for any new spots. PM me.
Hey i'm new to the form. I saw a guy pulling a bass out of the pond at the corner of south point and bowden a few weeks back but i haven't tried that spot. There also a fish management area off of st augusting and university i got a few bites there but didn't catch anything. If anyone wants to fish on the south side sometimes after work around 530 i would be down for that
I caught this fella today.
anyone been getting good hits lately?
I live in oakleaf and there's a lot of good good ponds around if you're ever over in the peak leaf area give me a shout I'll show you around to some very productive but very secretive ponds. It's very unlikely that I don't catch a 4 or 5 pounder every time I go shoot me a text anyone names carl 9046102523
I've seen previous posts about ponds off Racetrack Rd., near the poker room...has anybody had any luck at the nearby ponds off Bartram Park Blvd.? There is a decent sized pond on the east side of Batram Park Blvd., near the area where they started some new home / condo construction, but didn't quite finish. Its in between Batram Park Blvd and 95...it would be on your right if headed north on Bartram Park, maybe a mile or so north of Racetrack Rd.
Hey all, anyone having any luck? I've been to Kernan/Jtb pond on northwest corner, behind publix at beach/kernan, behind costco in towncenter, and ac skinner/belfort past week with NOTHING!! Huge Carp in beach/kernan publix pond though if anyone wants to throw some bread balls at it. Mostly been using 10" junebug culprit worm t-rigged, bass pro z9r hardbait, and thrown frog a couple times....skunked!! Anyone getting anything lately?? I've even fished Kingsley at Camp Blanding a couple times with father in law using some nice live wild shiners and still nothing.
Caught a 2 lber this morning at UNF fishing from bridge. Nice fallen tree brush pile right next to bridge, dropped a 10" junebug worm right in front of its face and it took it. Nothing other than that, but saw them moving around a little, seems like they were moving really slow and not interested in much.
Anyone getting any luck with Jax area ponds? I'm getting antsy as bass fishing has been challenging for me lately. Any methods working?

My dad and uncle used to fish the lakes at Unicersity of North Florida when my dad was going to college there. They had some pretty good lakes back in the day.
New to the area all the way from Cincinnati anyone have any small lakes to catch em.
I am new to Jacksonville just moved into my place here. I want to find some good bass places to fish I live off of normandy blvd
I stated earlier, University of North Florida is a good place to fish, if they will allow you to fish there.
Hi guys, new to the forum and to freshwater fishing in general. I've been saltwater fishing for years and consider myself pretty skilled, but with not having a boat or really any friends with a boat, it's a little difficult and getting old fishing just from the shoreline/under bridges, so I've decided to try to start giving bass fishing a shot. After 3-4 weeks (probably a total of 20 hours fishing) of getting skunked everywhere I've tried, I decided to try the retention pond behind Publix on Beach/Kernan (based off of some people in this thread). The temp was about 50 degrees outside and it was extremely windy, but my friend told me the only thing he's been having luck with lately was Jerkbaits using a One-Two-Three, One, One-Two-Three, One cadence while slowly reeling in, so I decided to try that out. It took about 30 minutes or so of walking the pond and casting, but I finally hooked my first freshwater fish ever! Not massive, but it actually put up a little fight. I caught it on a Gary Yamamoto Baby Bass tenkuu jerkbait. I live right by FSCJ South campus, and have tried there, but crank/jerkbaits just kept getting snagged, and I don't really know how to fish using worms/soft plastic yet. No bites off of spinnerbaits, either.
Anybody been doin any good lately? My son and i have been doin good out in baker county. He got a nice 3 or 4 lb late spawner yesterday in a neighborhood pond. Would post pic but don't kno how with my phone.

I've tried fishing UNF Lake Oneida (Donut Lake), FSCJ South, A bunch of the other UNF ponds.. And then also Kensington Gardens blvd pond.. My friend that goes with me catches 5-6 fish every time we go out and I never have luck using the exact same bait (senkos or jerkbaits) and trying the same methods. Landing this first one definitely upped my confidence and hopefully it starts a good streak!
Thanks for all the helpful tips in the forums.

There's a bunch of ponds just north of you on Pritchard rd and commonwealth. Give it a shot, I've had a lot of luck in those spots.
All those ponds on Pritchard I'm the industrial park are good. There's a spot on Pritchard right off the side of the road that's got some Good fish.

I think I know where you're talking about. I always see people out there on my way to work. Bulls bay has a few ponds back there. I usually stay on the Westside Orange park area.
Bulls bays got to many no fishing signs. I just need to find a pond holding bigger bass than what I've seen.

There's one I know of without signs back there. Its opposite the bmw warehouse to the right. I actually heard of it from this site a while back. Supposedly there's some big one's in there... No luck for me yet.
Any good ponds in and around Grove Park in Arlington? Not orange park. If anybody knows let me know what you use there. Im from Tallahassee and am visiting some family.
Hey I've got a pond I can meet you at to fish of Martin Luther king. Full of bass and a few hogs in there I've hooked into a couple monsters there.
Pulled out 15 fish yesterday. Biggest 4lbs or so. There's some big ones in this pond though I mean some real big ones. If anyone's tryna hit up my spot let me know.

Where abouts MLK surprised you didn't get robbed
^^^Lol
Canal street
You won't regret fishing it.
Hell yea
I'm headed to that pond on mlk today. Caught one about 8lbs 2 days ago. Go get one.
5lbs, I'm headed out that way in a lil bit I might stop by for a few on Canal and see if I can get one...is it little pond at dead end of canal oe one just right off Mlk?
Fished UNF this morning, caught 2 decent ones from bridge by just sight casting at them. Also caught a 1lber at pond behind publix at beach/kernan. All went for t-rigged watermelon colored worm.
5lbs, I tried your pond on Canal....nothing. I don't even know how you fish that with it being so thick with weeds/grass all the way around. I tried to skip my frog across it but no hits. I threw a worm and couple soft baits past grass and fished back but still got nothing. Got tired of cleaning all the grass/weeds off every cast.
Linker. Green with watermelon and red specks senkos. 5". Throw it with no weight and fish it slow. Dude I've caught 2 fish in there over 8 and I've caught numerous fives. Message me if you want to fish it with me any day this week.
The one right off mlk. With the little canal like strip.
I'm headed out there in a little bit lunker if you wanna head down there.
I was going north on MLK coming from downtown/Matthews Bridge, turned right on Canal and pond was right there on the right...big L shape pond right? I don't doubt they're there, it's big enough pond to hold some nice ones and I def saw some smaller ones in there. Do you use weighted hooks or just texas rigged senkos with no weight at all?
Hey guys, i'm new to this forum, and love bass fishing! I've been fishing for a little over 2 years, and just now really getting into lures(used live bait in the past) and have had a little bit of luck. I hope to learn some skills, as well as share info. I mainly fish Jax, and hilliard area,
I just fished Industrial park last night until 11:30 and kept getting hit with a topwater frog, i was casting straight into/ under trees on the oposit side of the bank. I normally hit the back pond that has a 3 way intersection... only fished it a couple of times, but caught my first fish on a lure their.
Looking for good ways to fish for those bass their.
I caught a couple one about 4 then one broke my line
Odis did you get snapped off at the pond on mlk? What do you use for line? And did you use senkos?
Found plenty of 5lbers lately...
I'm just now leaving Pritchard Rd Industrial Park, been fishing since 7pm and nothing but GAR!!!! I tried small square bills, berkley pit boss t-rigged, bitters paddle tail and vibe....used mostly green pumpkin and purple/black when it got dark and still nothing. Even tried my black/blue chatter bait...nothing!! The ponds look good and I've read a lot of user's posts saying they're good but that's just fishing I guess. Maybe all the rain got the water too murked up. I did catch a nice 3lber out of UNF a couple weeks ago. Dropped kayak in the lake with the bridge and caught a few using big worms t-rigged in the morning.
Just left another good pond in Arlington that I know has bass in it and still nothing, something has em closed mouth tonight. Waste of a full moon.

Sorry to hear bud, better luck next time. I haven't caught anything out there yet so you're not alone. There's this pond right off of imeson road that I'm gonna hit Saturday. Looks pretty promising but it's been really slow for the past week for me. Did you catch any gar out there??
anyone having any luck lately around Jax ponds?
Not having much luck on small lakes. Doing good on the big lakes like Santa Fe and lake Sampson and lake Rowell outside of Jacksonville near Starke. Looking for some good spots around Jacksonville to fish without my boat. Willing to take you fishing on my nitro z-7 with some help finding any good spots
Aaron, there are a ton of ponds around. You should try industrial park off Pritchard rd around Imeson and bulls bay. Go in evening or on weekend so businesses will be closed. I like the ponds over off Gate Parkway and Belfort Rd & AC Skinner Parkway off JTB. The only downside to any of these ponds is they're all private property. I go in evenings and on weekends and I've never had a problem. Another good one is big pond next to Walmart to the west off monument rd and tredinick parkway. I mainly use soft plastics t-rigged or a chatterbait with an added trailer to fish these ponds. I've caught some decent fish out of the ponds I listed, nothing over 4lbs but I'm sure there are some bigger.
Also forgot to mention.....been pretty tough lately with dog days of summer.....I've had best luck fishing the ponds from 8pm - 12am
Anyone got any advice on Duval/Pope ponds? thinking about doing an afternoon/evening trip out there with my kayak

No advice here, but I also have wanted to try pope duval in my kayak. I get back into town this coming week and would be interested in getting up with someone.
I made this account after reading nearly every page here.
I've not had much luck from shore lately, but do pretty well in my kayak at 9A/Baymeadows jigging the back weed line.
**Edited for typo...
I have heard from a friend of mine that pope ducal is pretty good if you have a small Jon boat or kayak to fish from. Senkos and worms t rigged with no weight swimmed near the surface is the way to go.

I tried the industrial park off imeson from like 6 till 8 and didn't get a bite. But I'll try fishing it a little later. Thanks for the advice. Message me if you want to go out to a bigger lake in the nitro sometime. I don't really have many friends that like to fish so I'm always going by myself
If you wanna catch some big bass hmu..
caught 2 bass both pushing 7 or 8lbs last week on ribbit frogs in Yulee fl...behind goodwill lmao
Any tips for Bethesda or Pope? I've put about 12 hours on Pope and 4 hours on Bethesda in my kayak without catching a bass (I did catch a 4-5 lb carp in Pope with a crankbait though). Pope was closed last Sunday, so I went to Bethesda for my first time Tuesday, around 3pm-7pm, fairly sunny with occasional clouds. I was surprised by how clear and deep the water was (I'll probably bring fluro leader next time, I was using braid). The fish seem pretty inactive on Bethesda that day, I think I seen maybe one top water strike the entire time. I didn't see baitfish either. I spent most of my time casting 3/16 t-rig 7inch pumpkin zoom trick worm in the shade, where there were overhanging trees and submerged branches. I know there were bass in those areas because I got snagged on a few of those branches and spooked them when I moved in close to unhook my lure. I just couldn't get them to bite. Later in the evening I switched to a chatterbait, a few smaller fish chased but no bites.
Skunked during another 4 hour visit to Bethesda, but to be fair I spent a lot of time on my new fish finder. 3pm-7pm, sunny with occasional clouds, water temperature of 83. I did a couple loops around the lake with side imaging and casted out whenever I seen something. Turns out they were turtles every single time. At least that confirms that the fish finder works. I might have actually spotted 1-2 fish roaming the bottom, but when I circled around they weren't there anymore. I explored the deepest sections (18-19 ft) and found nothing. I finished the day by casting near the shore with a senko. I think I'm done with Bethesda until fall or winter.
New to the area and have tried a few places in Orange park with some success using live bait. Nice lake off college that has some nice fish. I recently caught one 18-20" would anyone know where to catch wild signers around Jacksonville. If not, is there a bait store that carries the wild golden shinner
I'm looking for people to fish with also and need some locations to fish
Has anyone had any luck at the 9A/Baymeadows park?

Not sure how the above got on here but I can't get it off.Just trying to reply to get this started up again. Is anyone catching anything? For me it's been kind of slow.I fish around town between jobs.I think the high temps have hurt the pond fishing this summer I did catch a good number last week on the home lake.
Dwade,I sent you a pm.
Mike
I've had luck at 9A/Baymeadows park.....caught almost a 7lber (6lb 10oz) out of there on a t-rigged berkley havoc...green I think was the color. However, I've also been there a few times and got nothing too....the ponds have been disappointing for me I guess it's the heat like Big Mike said.
I caught one almost 4 out there on a 5 inch senko, along with 8 other fish one day last spring.Took a friend on July 2nd and we only caught 3 small fish in several hours using all kinds of baits.I heard of a 10 being caught there.
New member, also in the Jax area. Anyone know of any good ponds in Nocatee??
I don't I could be wrong, but the ponds there seem too new for me.I don't know if they are stocked or not.
Julington Creek plantations ponds are stocked and they've been there long enough to produce some quality fish.Just don't fish in people's yards!!It's only 15 min. or so from Nocatee.
If you find a good pond or two at Nocatee let me know.I will release any that I catch.
I just stumbled upon this thread. I am looking for a fishing partner. Willing to try new areas all over jacksonville. I've had good luck in the arlington cemetary area but got ran out of there so i stopped going. I've caught a few 3-4 pounders at pope duval. If anyone is looking for a fishing partner feel free to send me a message.
Welcome to the forums.I grew up in the jax.area,so I know some spots. There are so many ponds, you could probably never fish them all.
Many of the best ones are private .I'm always on the lookout to add new ponds to the list.My job takes me to houses, some with ponds. So I often ask if I can fish them.So cultivate friendships!
I mainly fish on my home lake I live on.I have a waiting list though.Theres a lot of 3-6 pound fish here, but also too many smaller fish. Its definitely more of a numbers lake.Maybe you'd like to try it sometime.
Tell me what part of town your in,and I can probably tell you a spot or two.
Mike
Hey everybody new to the the area and would love some advice on fall pond fishing in Ponte Vedra, Palm Valley, Noctee area. So far Tried a couple communities Sawgrass mills and Odoms mill with limited success. Literally threw the kitchen sink at them, flukes, watermelon worms, top water poppers, frog, Watermelon and June bug lizards etc. Anyone familiar with the area would be a big help. Or maybe I just SUCK at fishing haha.
If you can ever get access to old sawgrass community, they have some hogs in the lake in there.I got an 8 pounder the only time I did.
Thanks Big Mike! I will give it a try. What's a good lure to throw pond fishing Jax in the fall? Classic watermelon Senko Texas rigged? Rattletrap?
You can't go wrong with the T- rigged senko.I love watermelon colors and I fish them weightless.Always.
I don't use rattletraps due to the excess weeds in most of the pond/lakes I fish.
Another good bait around here are Zoom salty super flukes. In watermelon colors, and weightless of course.
And Zoom trick worms are always good.
I like slightly stained lakes. If I see a murky pond I leave it alone unless I know it's good.Thats just me though. Most of the ponds are on the clearer side around here.
If you like crank baits, the baby bass color is good in deeper, clearer ponds.
There has been a fair bite in traditional repalas around here lately also.
Has success today In an apartment complex lake near Marsh Landing. Watermelon senko Texas rig and my chrome rattle trap...two decent sized. Overcast and mild temp, great day.
Anyone fishing?
For me its been a little slow.Im catching a few 2-3 pound fish in my home lake.
Hey guys I'm Mick I just signed up but I've been hunting bass around jacksonville for years. I went to Pritchard rd yesterday and I'm going back today lots of bass and catfish but for some reason I can't upload pictures

Hey anyone fishing jax area?
Tried a couple ponds yesterday with Trophybasshunter. We fished the big pond behind southside community church with no success. Also fished a small interchange pond at butler/ southside .He caught one dink. Always searching for new ponds.
There were a few fish on beds at both spots but they werent interested.Nothing huge though.
Also caught 5 the other night at the home lake.Biggest was 2 pounds caught on 5 inch Yamamoto senko- red slice.

I am currently living in the 295 / Baymeadows rd area. Nothing on the agenda this weekend if you are interested.
I may half a couple hours on Saturday. Have some work to do probably in the morning til I get through.
I'll send you another message on Sat. When I know more.
Baymeadows regional park has a small lake that's stocked and can be pretty good .Best with a small boat though. Its right in your area.

Great let me know, I had already thought about giving Baymeadows regional park a try. What is the best bait to use for these lakes/ponds?
Soft plastics are the best imo.
Flukes, senkos, ribbontail worms, trick worms , baby brush hogs for starters.
All Texas rigged.
Baymeadows park has been on and off for me and is much better from a boat.. But it holds some big fish. Got some other spots off Kernan Blvd and hodges blvd. The UNF ponds are pretty good too, except that you need a parking permit to park there.

Hey thanks for the list of softies .....
Went out yesterday and pick up a few items, some senko, flukes, ribbontails and some frogs.
I went out earlier to the baymeadows regional park and threw pretty much everything at them. I ended up catching 2 small 1lbers. Not a great day but not a skunk for my first day back on the water in Florida in about 10 years.
Hey, that's good. You do well to catch much from the bank there. I catch most of mine in the back corner by the car dealership. Got a 4 and a 3 and 6 others one time. Heard of a 10 being caught there. I usually take my J. Boat with T. Motor.
I'm done with my work but it's storming at my house. I guess we'll wait and see....

I read about those 2 bass and others over 10 pounds caught in some of the small waters in northeast Florida. Seems like a great place to catch a 10 pound bass and its no surprise why so many people from northeast Florida have +10 pound bass PB's.
Yeah, and we have lakes like Kingsley. Some of the locals think the next Florida ( maybe world ) record fish swims in there . I've heard of several 14+ fish caught in there recently.
But you can't get in there unless you are military or know somebody that lives on it.
Looking for some pond buddies. in jax... always fishing. jax area code.
text me up some times. i got many nights. and most weekends.
