December 2013 Bragging Rights Finale 2024

fishing user avatarBassinLou reply :

Alright gang, a new month is here before us and you all know what that means..... new competition time!!! If you  participated last month, or you are new member, or you have been following us now for while and you're just curious. Now is your time to join us. I am proud to say that this will be our 7 month of having this monthly competition. Last month we had 27 participants and we are looking to grow that number. So please, any BR FL member can join. All we ask is that you play fair and have fun while you are with us.  Just to give contenders an idea of what they are up against, here were Novembers top five bags (sort of speak) in inches. 1. 101" 2. 99.5" 3. 94.5" 4. 89.5" 5. 86". Think you can do better?? Participate and show us.

The rules are simple. Go bass fishing, and if you deem your fish is worthy to brag about, then all you have to do is measure your fish, take a clear picture of the whole fish confirming the length on a measuring device. For example a ruler, tape measure, etc... The person with the longest 5 bass at the end of the month wins bragging rights. The beauty of this competition is, there are no entry fees, no prize money, just pure clean fun for bragging rights. You can fish from the bank, from a boat, from a yak, from canoe anywhere that it is legal to fish. [ Also, please make sure your fishing license's are up to date]. On a side note we also have big fish honors. That simply means we recognize the angler who has caught the biggest fish in the month. For that recognition you will need a scale and picture confirming the weight of your catch.

When you take a pic of your catches you have up to 5 days to post those pictures on our forum. To avoid any misunderstandings on your post, please include the date of the catch. I will take care of the rest and track your catches and progress. I will post daily and weekly standings.

Lastly, this competition is for fun and to share our experiences so the rest of us can learn from your catch. Any intentional acts to mislead or harm this competition is highly discouraged, and you will be disqualified for those actions. We are participating in a honest, and fair competition.

By saying " I am in" you are accepting the guidelines of this competition. If any one has any questions or concerns please PM me at any time. I am here for all of you.

Best of the luck everyone, let's have an awesome December Finale!!

and with that..... I AM IN!!

Ya'll said bring it, here you go...

Taylor and I went to Winter Haven Chain today.  Air temps in the upper 60 water temp around 63, overcast and foggy this morning.

First fish of the day.  18.5" on a 22" golden rule.  I will get a sharpie and mark the lines for future fish.

757DFC77-5BA7-4FC9-9F7A-35B7B334EDE8_zps

Last fish of the day  19"

05765215-FBAD-4524-8924-F6B85A8CEA22_zps

There were a bunch of dinks in between.  Both fish caught on a Bitters Naked swimmer.

I got in some clear water and saw fish that would have put me over 100" today.  Ya'll are in trouble this month.

fishing user avatarJacob044 reply :

Lou, I'm in and here is my first offering. The biggest was at 4lb and 21-1?2 long. The rest are smaller but I will be culling now that I have found my new honey hole.

Jacob and FishinDaddy way to get this party started. I documented each of your catches. Jacob, include the numbers you see, so that I do not cheat you by mistake a 1/2inch +-. I will trust the angle of the angler first. FishinDaddy, that ruler has seen its share of fish...LOL.

Putting me to work early,  I love it.

I know your deathly afraid of spiders, but seriously speaking take a vest. You venture to far out and may underestimate the distance to shore in case you do fall out

thats the way it was all summer for us, everytime he would go we would have a bad day, then nov hits and cool temps and the fish are on,

it did help that i found a lake that seems to have alot of fish, but not to many big big fish, 22 seems like biggest in there, but he loves it, i spend all my time unhooking fish etc..... i am 53 yo and i feel like kid when we fish,  i trully believe what they say about teaching kids to fish, no better bonding time then this :respect-059:

How'd you do at Okeechobee?

I have always wanted to fish there, it's my dream spot! I heard one average the lake is very shallow which is perfect for the way I like to fish. I have seen numerous monsters pulled out of there on a consistent basis on YouTube and tournaments on TV.

We will have a new winner this month! I am trying to focus on catching my trophy fish BEFORE they start to spawn. I will give write ups to contribute to the lure thing LGM is doing but as my usual writes up go it will be the same thing lol, instead of frogs it will be cranks and spinnerbaits because that is what they have been wanting towards the end of November.

Have been bringing out my gopro with me so when I do I will have the footage. Trying to get the hang of the video editing thing but it is all foreign to me lol.

just wondering????

mutt, I found a new honey hole this week and have pulled 23 fish from it in 5 days. So, I though I would test the tables on it today. The times were generally 12:00 and 5:00 for best times and I got absolutely nothing. I haven't relied on them much in the past and with today results, I don't think I will rely on them in the future. I was wondering myself if some of the other guys find them accurate. I don't

How'd you do at Okeechobee?

I have always wanted to fish there, it's my dream spot! I heard one average the lake is very shallow which is perfect for the way I like to fish. I have seen numerous monsters pulled out of there on a consistent basis on YouTube and tournaments on TV.

It stunk! I tried a new spot out of south bay so on top of not knowing the area, it was smoggy, foggy, rainy, and windy as hell. We found a few small fish but got annoyed and left. I also figured it wouldnt be as busy as clewiston where we normally go, but that was only at the ramp. I guess everyone goes in from slims. Sooo 27 was on the way home and we hit that in a new spot at which point 10 minutes on the way out rain came. Then we went south toward some airboat place to try and it followed us lol. So we gave up and went home wet and angry.id The weather forecast was 10-20% around noon which wasnt the case. But yea, most of the time its very good fishing out there. Some fish have began spawning in there already too. Going to make a return down on the next full moon if possible. If

There was a tourney out of Slims this past Sunday. My wife's uncle Jonathan and his partner Mark won it with a pretty big bag. Said they caught their 9#er out of some dirty water by Pelican Bay.

that explains it. Yea with the weather not warming up and not getring much action around 11 we opted to go to the rim which was pretty stained, and figured warmer down below, but by then I was frustrated. Maybe if I knew the area I would habe stayed but....

The rim up near pelican might not have been so bad. I thought about goin up that way too but I was just grumpy and gave up. We didnt even get on the water till probably 830-9.

830-9, you guys were late to the game. This time of the year stay out of the rim ditch. You need to be looking for shallow water. The fish will be hanging out in the thins for warmth and spawning. They are spawning right now, and wont stop till around Feb-Mar. Best bet is to play around in the airboat trails and get into the flats and look for holes in the grass. You have a good little boat to get out there.

oh yea... we did. We even went blazing out of the trails where there were no trails into grass and pad fields lol. Your right though. Just didnt know the area, was late, weather sucked, and I was pissy... just a bunch of negatives that dont make good fishing. Next time.

Well I only got out for about 15 min this evening after waking up from an after work nap.  caught this little guy (14") on a 6" senko watermelon red flake wacky rigged.  Had 2 more strikes that I missed in that short period.  So it looks like im starting small this month and with limited time to fish (heading back to PA for a week around Christmas) I need to start pulling in some fish!  Luckily my wife is out of town this week so im hoping to log a long afternoon evening tomorrow after work.

Got me a nice one this morning at the golf course. Gator knows. Didn't have anything to measure, but I did take a picture next to my rod and reel, and will figure out the length with a ruler and the picture later. I will also post the pic later after work. She was a jumper too. Caught her on a Pad Crusher. Its funny that I had stopped last night after work using the Type-R rig, and hooked into a nice one about the same size, but it took me into the pads. After about 5 minutes of trying to get her out, the line finally gave. So, out came the frog rod this morning, lol. This time she didn't get away. My guess is she was close to 20".

Not important, they are not even Shimanos. :eyebrows:  J/K, its hard waiting for stuff huh?

had a decent day today on the water.  got off work at 130 and headed right to the water.  caught 2 fish at my first stop, one 18" the other a dink.  missed another that looked to be a decent fish.  caught it on a kvd 1.5 sexy shad crank around 250pm.  fishing it right through the middle of pads.  took me awhile to get this one in musta got hung up 5 times but she stayed on bc the entire crank was absolutely inhaled.  one I missed got hung up in the pads and eventually wiggled off.

2d13fgn.jpg

headed across town to my pond near home.  caught one on the same crank but not tape measure worthy.  cranks went dead around 5 so switched to the senko and caught 2 more. one 18.5" and another not for the tape measure.  this one weighed in at 3.8lbs which was a pretty decent weight for the size.

I apologize for the awful pic,  im working on improving this measuring device you can see the cm on the top and I just googled the conversion to make sure it was right.  I don't like how it is only numbered every 2 inches so when I remember im going to fix it for the future.  I believe these two fish put me at 50.5" total with three fish (18.5, 18, 14)

Went back to the hole that I pulled that hawg yesterday after work. I was working the pads real good, when all of a sudden a HUGE girl rolled to take my frog but missed. She will be mine, oh yes, she will be mine.

This morning I did a bit of fishing before work, but only had one that was around 14", but I wont even bother because this month is gonna take big females to win.

First fish: 14" caught on a pop-r bass color.  Caught it right in the middle of the creek just popping 3 times and letting it sit.  AK had told me that the fish in this area have great color and patterns on them, that's really the only reason I wanted to take this picture.

  1zcmseq.jpg

Second fish" 16" caught on a top toad.  Also caught this one in the middle of the creek on a straight retrieve.  I worked half of the large pond w the crank and pop-r with no luck.

vd1ts4.jpg

Thats 5 fish for me should put me at 80.5" ive got some serious culling to do starting with those two stupid 14"s.  Heading out with AK tomorrow afternoon, we have put each other on fish the past two days so hopefully we can do it together.

last day before my wife gets back to town and my fishing time gets slashed lol.  went out around 1230pm to my pond right up the street.  threw the top toad and crank for about an hour w no action at all.  switched up to the senko which has been hot at this place.  caught this 18" on the first cast got another smaller on the second cast but didn't bother w the measurement.  senko was wacky rigged and watermelon red flake.

9h0rh3.jpg

headed over to the other side of town with AK to work some of his spots and we both got skunked, he did miss a nice one but that was our only action over there.  This culls one of my 14s and puts me at 84.5".

Just got back in from the glades. Whew!! I am pooped. 3 of us went out. Me, my son, and brother in law. We got out there by 830, and fished til 430. My son was a trooper. We caught 48 fish, and the best part 40 of them were caught by son. Dinks, but, to a 7 year old he is on cloud nine. I only caught one contest worthy and it went for 14".  The promising things I did see, was that the big ones are starting to stage. I saw some really nice bass, but they were not interested today. The water levels are coming down. So this Spring its going to be unbelievable.  On a funny note, my new reel came in while we were out. LOL. It's a sweet reel. I will post my little guy later.

Fortunately, my brother in law and I tagged team. My son would fish with me and some with his uncle. We did this through out the day. My son was in charge of the fish counter.  We used a variety of soft plastics. Flukes, stick worms and centipedes. I just stuck with the frog to weed out the little guys. It was a beautiful day, with great memories.

fishing user avatarAK-Jax86 reply :

Saturday I went out with DS and hooked into a nice one but she shook the hook on a semi jump lol. That's was the only bite of the day.

Went out today after the Eagles game. There were tons of good games today perhaps the most entertaining was the Ravens Vikings game. They scored 5 TDs between them in the last 2mins of the game with the Ravens pulling out the win (MCS I hope u were able to catch that game while you were on your trip)

I was out from like 4:45 til about 5:45 at this spot right by my house, I pass it every day but never fished there before. I hooked into 3 big fish atleast 5lbs got a good look at all three before they have me the shake lol. First one shook the hook after the first jump, 2nd shook me on the first jump, and the third came off when she was hung up in pads right in front of me. May think about switching out the standard KVD treble hooks since the big ones have shook them past two days. I landed 5 fish 2 were dinks and the other three were between 15-20".

Still haven't got my trophy fish yet but have a feeling she may come from this new spot. Which is nice since I won't have to travel far and take advantage of the daylight while I can in the evenings.

I am going to Ponte Vedra tomorrow morning and I know she's at this one spot, I just hope the cops don't run me off like they did to Me, czar, and DS that one weekend

The one on Saturday I messed up and set the hook slinging my rod up, that one wasn't hooked right I could just tell. I usually set the hook to the side cuz when I try to set it by pulling up, like you would a frog, I find it rips the crank out their mouth. The ones today were to the side when I set the hook. The one that came off close to shore was my fault because she was hung up in the pads I let out slack which relieved the pressure on the line and hook. Reeled in my crank with some vegetables on it and watched her tail flap on top and swim off. The other two just shook it after a nice fight on the jump.

When you use cranks is that how you set the hook too, down/to the side

I too have seen them six months ago righting tickets at Lox for speeding. Easy to do when your boat can do 70 and your not used to speed limits on big bodies of water. Does anyone know why they posted a limit?

So far we have had some quality fish come by.

FishDaddy-18.5, 19 Bitters naked swimmer

Jacob-20.5, and a few 15's. The 15s caught on a bluegill rattler

Mutt and Joe caught a boat load on cranks, I think they were trolling them (cheaters, lol)

Lunkmaster-19.5,18,17.5,17, on Senkos

Dsidle-18.5,18 on sexy shad. A 18, 14 on senkos

BoSox-in the 16's with all, one coming from a brush hog

Lou-............a 14 on a koppers frog. Might have been bigger if he used a Booyah!

Fstr-pulled himself a nice 20. Also managed to catch a speeding ticket, whatever that is, he must have been burning a buzzbait or something, lol.

Me? Well, just the one 21 from the golf course. Didn't get anything worth writing home about yesterday. But it was fun using the Type-R with light line and rod for small fish. Kind of gave a good fight.

Tight lines everyone!

fishing user avatarAK-Jax86 reply :

Had to go to Jacksonville Beach today so I stopped at Ponte Vedra for a hour. Was throwing a frog at first, still won't give up on it, missed one fish.  Then switched to my crank rod and caught 2 fish on KVD 1.5 (some new color don't remember exact name but it looks like a Dalmatian with a yellow belly the name on the box was long).

Met up with DS around 3:30ish at my golf course.  Had a miss at the first two ponds but that was it.  We moved to a different pond in the back.  We both were throwing frogs and cranks.  He switched to a senko and caught 1.  I switched from a KVD 1.5 (Dalmatian color) to a KVD 1.0 in blue gill.  Caught a small one hit it right at shore.  Then same thing happened as I was talking to DS but this one was a big one. Threw me off guard didn't get her hooked right felt her and she took off.  Then I caught one that was probably 18" this one hit it about 5 yards from shore.  Someone called security so the guy came and told us we had to go. I started to give him the business then I stopped when I realized he was the cool one lol.  We came to an agreement that the next time he would just give a honk and keep it moving lol. He is a fellow fishermen too so he understood that people are just being ******.

Damnn, hit the golf course this morning before work. Was tossing the frog, when all of a sudden this monster wake came at the frog. It was a sluggish wake so I thought it was the 10# Bass that I had seen a few days ago. I paused the frog, then twitch, then WHAM! This thing hit like a ton of bricks. When it started to take off and pull drag, I knew it wasn't a Bass. Then it jumped about 3 feet out of the water. It was 10#s, only it was a Snakehead. Man what a fight! It swallowed my frog pretty far back, so that's where it stayed. Sacrificed a frog to the Snakehead Gods, lol.

fishing user avatarAK-Jax86 reply :

Where to start!!!

Went out this morning around 8ish to my course. Didn't get a bite at my first two spots so I moved to the back, always have luck there. Was there around 8:50 and they were in search and destroy mode on my KVD 1.5 it was amazing haven't had a day like this EVER (u will see later lol). Tomorrow when I get back I will take a pic of my KVD it is beat up by the amount of fish it has caught/missed would have thought I had it for years opposed to few weeks! I stayed in the back for under a hour and caught 15 fish (9 which are comp worthy but it's someone's else's turn this month).

It was funny I was as if I was putting on a show for the mothers walking their dogs and people getting in their morning jog lol. Seemed like every time someone asked me if I had luck I was like yea and would hook one right in front of them! Two ladies that were jogging together saw me catch a fish as they passed me the first time and then again when they came back. I had a nice fat one when this guy was standing next to me it jumped once and guy was like holy expletive, then he went back down and somehow my crank comes flying out the water and hooks into my stomach, only pinched my skin though. I was there for less than a hour and my girl called asking me to bring her some medicine.

So I left the frenzy and stopped at CVS got her what she needed then was heading home. For some reason I decided to stop at this big natural lake that I see every day on way to my course and home. Only thug about this spot is u can't park by it unless u have a truck or SUV and only parking is on the other side by this sporting field. I park and grab my pole not expecting to catch anything. There is a bunch of high grass and it's swampy around the edges. So I make a few casts and then IT FINALLY HAPPENED!!! Boom at first I was like I had to have snagged a gator or big turtle. Til I got her kinda close to where I could see her tail... Then she took back off I didn't even fight it because I had déjà vu from that time with Czar all I was thinking is NOOOOOO ITS ON THE MONOOOOOOO. Fortunately there aren't any pads that she could get hung up on but I didn't know if there was anything on the bottom. Well I got her to the edge and I plow through the tall grass and swamp disregarding the possibility that I would run into a moccasin (I was on the look out the WHOLE time for one til she got hooked then I was like the Crocodile Hunter at that point lmao). Figures the ONLY time I'm not prepared is when this happens!! I wanted to keep her but the only reason why I didn't is because where I was parked there was families and a cop there so I didn't want any issues with the officer, my fishing license isn't current but they can't harass u for that I heard. I would have looked crazy carrying this thing across the street and to my car lol.

Sucks I have no stats on her except for the fact that she was massive! Easily my PB but can't put a number to it in any way.

I'm going back tomorrow so I will throw up the pic, I think it's safe to say that I accomplished my feat of big fish of the month. No crazy picture angles or anything to make it look bigger like some people do on this site, but may be disqualified since I didn't have anything to weigh her with. Regardless you will all enjoy seeing her (swear this isn't the Czar PB (personal best as in smallest) from last month lol.

Another side note is when I first reeled her in I saw two big wakes on the side of her so I think she was in a school! And I have heard that bass tend to school with fish of similar size which I hope is true because that means there's other monsters in here.

Editing pic spot stealers alert lol

I was talking to a guy at Dicks last night and he was telling me when a fish slams the crank not to set the hook let it set itself. He said because when you set the hook it causes a tear so the tear is much bigger than after you set it oppose to if you let it happen naturally. He says that he increases his hook ups that way.

Seems like that would make sense. I got a few packs of trebles to change out the standard ones though just to be safe

fishing user avatarBassinLou reply :

I was able to go out today for about 2.5 hours. It was nice to get out after a hectic and stressful week. I caught several fish but none that I deem contest worthy. The coolest part is, I caught all of these fish on my new Lews reel. I swapped my MG from my Avid for the TT Pro. I have been itching to use this reel and I couldn't wait for the following week til I went to glades. LOL.  Here is my mini review in case someone is interested.

The TT Pro compared to MG are identical in size and the paddle knobs are the same. After that the differences begin. The TT Pro imo is a nicely refined MG. For example: the TT Pro has a nice carbon fiber handle that's really accentuates the reel, plus making it a little lighter. The TT also has a dual braking system which really helps dial the reel in nicely. The retrieve is nice and smooth and plus I got the High speed model in 7:1 so the IPT is higher. I couldn't test the drag today because the fish weren't big enough to challenge this reel. Casting was effortless and it covered great distances with ease.. I was able to cast a 4 inch stick bait to the other side of a bigger than avg canal with a flick of the wrist. Overall I am very happy I was able to get this reel. I can't wait to use this reel in the glades when the big girls decide to come out and play. Hope this helps someone.

Exactly what happened to me today. I hooked the biggest bass I have ever seen and I made the fatal mistake of setting the hook hard. He came to the top and spit the crank back at me. Man, IF only I would have gotten that one.

fishing user avatarBassinLou reply :

You don't set on cranks, there's 6 hooks there. Stay with constant steady pressure and let the rod do its job. You don't have to horse or over power the fish.

A sweep set is all you need, just sweep to the side and maintain constant pressure with the reel.  You should also be fishing on a medium power rod with mono line.  The rod and line combo act like a shock. This will keep constant pressure on the hooks without tearing a hole in the fishes mouth allowing the hook to come out.  Most fish are lost by trying to land them to fast.

Yea I do everything you said... Sweep, constant pressure, medium power rod, mono, AND LOSING FISH trying to land them too fast. That's my biggest problem with the big ones trying to get them to shore too fast which would support the ripping a hole in their mouth so the hook comes out theory.

I'm still weary of mono line. I was using my favorite crank (I have multiple of them now) and I was hung up on a small branch in the water I pull it out and it flies back cutting my line luckily the crank flew behind me and was still attached to a piece of the branch with a few feet of line stuck to it, so it wasn't my knot. Branch must have cut the line when I flung it back or there must have been a weak spot in the line idk. But I would hate for that to happened when trying to bring a fish in have it cut on something under water or IN PADS... To this day that fish still haunts me which is why I made the switch to braid (but that's also cuz Lou got me addicted to frogs)

When I am using cranks or soft plastic I always throw it on mono I just have had a traumatic experience which won't leave my head so everytime I get a nice size fish I think my lines gonna snap again lol

Yea it was a good day I felt like I was a pro at the bass masters classic for that hour or so of glory at the golf course lol.

It's funny because of few people walked by and we did the standard good mornings to each other. I was at the point that I would see people walking towards me and in my head I was like please ask me if I am having any luck so I can catch a fish this cast or next lol. I'm te superstitious type in a way. I wear like the same 3 or 4 shirts when I fish and saw I catch a nice one on a Wednesday evening when I can fish for a hour I will wear that same shirt, washed if course, on Saturday when I go out in the AM. Then if I repeat on Saturday it gets washed again and I wear it Sunday lol. Czar and DS probably think I am poor and have no close cuz I wear the same outfits lmao

Berkley Big Game 12 lb it has never let me down. It is very abrasion resistant and I use a 30 lb snap for quick changes.  I boated 3-8 pounders back to back to back on the same clinch knot.

Well, we haven't been fishing much this month. I went for 45 min the other morning and not a single bite. Today SO missed three. Two on frogs and one on a worm. I tried my kvd 1.0 for a while and got nothing. I was actually ready to leave when I started messing around with a wacky rigged worm and I got a 12". I was so bored this morning and disappointed with the fishing I was taking pics of the Tahoe instead lol.

These crankbaits you guys are using, are they shallow diving square bills?

yes the KVD 1.5 square bill.  I believe the diving depth is 4-6 feet.  This is my first month or so using them or any crank for that matter thanks to AK's advice.  And they are working out pretty well for me.  Ive had my best luck on overcast/rainy days.

fishing user avatardsidle61 reply :

Ok here is the pic of my 18" from yesterday.  Was caught on the kvd 1.5 in craw color in the rain.  For laughs im posting my first catch of yesterday which is slightly smaller. I apologize again for the bad picture, I fixed my measuring device last night after this pic so I should be good from here on out.

So we will both have our new toys to play with when we go out the 1st of the new year. What a way to start the year off. I hope we hook into some good ones.

Went out this afternoon with AK to a spot on my side of town.  We ended up doing pretty well.  From about 4-545 we pulled in 6 fish between the 2 of us.  I had 2 decent fish, one was 18 and the other may have been greater than 18 but she swallowed the crank good and was bleeding all over the place so I got her back in the water as quick as possible.  My other 2 were probably in the 14-16 range.  AKs two were probably in the 15-17 range.  I caught 3 of mine on the crank in craw color and one on the senko.  I know ak was also using the crank but im not sure the color.  We are going to head out tomorrow morning/afternoon hopefully we have some more luck then.

Yea man we will prob have to go early morning because I have to go to Jacksonville Beach around 9:30/10 then off to Palm Coast to try to make some sales... If anyone was effected by the Tornado I feel bad for you Mother Nature can be a b*tch (any storm damage send me a PM). I have only been involved in a tornado warning once when I was probably 9 and that was back in NJ. Fortunately my neighborhood was not affected I couldn't imagine what the people in Palm Coast are going through, you have my prayers and I'm sure others from FL as well!

Well here are the 2 decent Bass from yesterday. After careful comparison of the pictures vs the ruler on the board, I have come to a 16 and a 17 for the two fish. Both were caught on an UV speed worm in black red flake, moving them across the surface while watching them come out of the grass and attacking it. That was the bait of the day yesterday, and I better remember to refill on them for next week as I almost ran out. Im at 54" with 3 fish so far. Its not my best, but I have been more focused on my Tatula review write up.

AK, can you see the lure?? If you are hooked on the stalk of a lily pad, you have two options. Take a swim like suggested or get your hands on that jon boat. Nothing is getting that lure out of those pads once a hook is stuck on there.

Yea I can't see the lure so I think it's stuck on the stalk. Unless when my line snapped it floated back up and is under the pad leaf which is what I am hoping.

I am going there Sunday so I will see if I can use that boat and try to get it out gonna have to bring some branch cutters or something if its down below.

St. Augustine has some nice lights in the historic district. The zoo is cool, nice place. Never been for the lights but last year we had annual pass, this year we went with the gator farm in st aug.

Yea when I came down here we loved going to the alligator farm haven't been there since te baby was born. We are waiting til Adrian gets a little older until we bring him there so he knows what he is seeing we will probably bring him there in June for his 2nd birthday.

It's a really cool place Sarah wants to do that zip line thing I saw it when we were there last and not my cup of tea lol. Since they had it up the few times I have went I haven't seen anyone do it.

I really like how they do the alligator feeding shows. You know that big bridge walkway thing they have going over the lagoon leading to the room where Maximo's replica is, I think that's its name. I was there one time when there was a rain drought and the gators were in like 1ft of water if that, kinda felt bad for em.

There's these little kids that ride their dirt bike and quads around there that I sometimes see in the evening, their family owns the lake I think. May try to bribe them to do it lol jk

You so need to do this lol those kids would be all over it.  but of course youll have to wait til your about to leave bc they wont leave you alone the rest of the day.

You may need to slow it down even more. They may not be wanting to surface where you at now. They could be in spawn mode, in which the jigs/senkos/worms/creature bait comes to play. They are looking for easy pickings.

Yeah I hadn't even been throwing the frog at all this is the first time in awhile, I've been having a lot of luck w the crank and senko as of late. Put the pop r on bc I noticed unusuall heavy surface action at my spot and they wanted it my 2 hits came in about 15 min. Im getting decent numbers of fish I just keep catching the 18s!

Man they vacated the culverts I was tossing to last week. Only fished for 30 or so, needed to get here to work. hope picking up how to work these jigs is quick and easy lol but the finer things in life never are. This time last year a 1/8-1/4 oz Texas rig with a ribbon tail or rattlesnake did well.

So onto jig question with LMG. Rattle or no rattle? How do you work it, especially in weeds/grass small hops like a trig or dragging in with the rod top(not with the reel)? I got some terminator pro to start. Pumpkin blue with a killer blue zoom chunk is what I was tossing. Also got a couple in junebug, which I am really excited about, and black/blue/purple. I need to find a trailer for the junebug have watermelon incredi craws which I may throw tomorrow.

Oh and LMG I am open to suggestions on trailers, jig brand/style. These were 50% off and had junebug. If you wish pm me any helpful info or do i have to go to UofB lol Lou said he doesn't fish jigs much so he is useless to me on this topic :P

Had a slow day of work today so I had a chance to go to the park and fish for a while. Blue bird skies, and nice cool breeze from the NE. Made the fishing tough but I managed two decent ones I would say. A 16.5" and 17"  They will help my numbers a bit, puts me at 63". It's taking me a while but I will catch up.  I caught them either using a BPS stick bait or WM seed centipede deadsticking. Not my favorite technique because it requires patience for that slow decent, but none the less it worked today.

UofB, haha. I will be nice and give you my answer here. I don't use rattles. As far as trailers, its experimental. I will tell you that. Sometimes I use the back end of a lizard, or take a Brush Hog(full size) and cut the top off down to the arms, then use that back half as a trailer. Gambler ugly otter, or mega daddy as well. That is all you are gonna get for this site. If you really want some good info, you will have to come to the Dark Side :student:

Believe it or not, I don't go too crazy on presentation when I have used jigs.  I have had more luck on the SK bitsy jigs with zoom split tail grubs. I swim them with very light hops along the ledges in the canals in my neck of the woods.

I'll win this one this weekend and then----> I'm gonna fish for sport again. I feel like I'm missing a little sport as I hook em and keep the rod low and reel them in as fast as I can so they don't shake the hook. After this win, I'm gonna catch and let them run and jump, not caring if they shake the hook. That's more fun that way. I love watching them do their aerobatics acts. It's been fun competing though. Jacob you are right about the whole fishing for sport thing, but losing a big one is tough regardless of this competition.

I haven't been submitting any fish for this comp but its suppose to me a good week weather wise and I have from now til New Years Day free to fish whenever. That being said I think I will see what I can do this week! I will do like fstr use to do and put the date on a paper in my photos so people know these are current catches

BUT I will only submit my fish if someone overtakes Joe... I have been secretly rooting for him this whole time even over my fishing buddy DS!

Nice fish! I see 21" clearly. None the less that places you .5" away from tying for first. I know you are saying 21.5" and I would love to give to you for the tie but that fish bottom lip is clearly resting on 21". Let's see what the rest say, and if they give it you then I will. Jacob, no one here is taking anything personal. We enjoy the trash talk. At least I do. You have been able to perk some of us up. It's all good. I wish you the best of luck today hunting for this elusive pig. You will be missed.

Hey guys! Yes the bearing did cause me a ton of birds nests but once i put some thin gun oil on them all the problem went away and now my chronarch casts extra 10-15 feet :) and all regular casts are simply effortless!

anyways, i think LMG had enough silent treatment... he's taking me out on a love boat ride on lake coral springs next sunday, oh the poor cupid will run out of arrows :P

fishing user avatarBassinLou reply :

Went out for a little while to my local canal. Caught 6 but not nothing to brag about. I was trying to go after a 6 lbr by a culvert, but she was to smart. The current was running to the South and she positioned herself pointing upstream between the two culvert openings. It was interesting to watch but frustrating to fish. Thank goodness for Costa 580's because if I didn't have polarized lenses all you would see is just  water.

It's time to renew your license. If he doesn't do it, he'll call FWC and they will definitely will.

Yeah that's what I said lol. Funny I was my spot and this guy was on a canoe with his son and his daughter was riding a four wheeler around, and he had prior history with this officer. Apparently this cop is hard bleep and a bleep hole and would always hassle them about riding their four wheelers. He was surprised the cop didn't give me the business lol. This same cop arrested him few months back for making moonshine, he said his neighbor snitched on him lol.

But I'm glad I ran into this cop on his good day all he did was tell me to move my car and he doesn't have a problem with me fishing where I was at I just can't park there. Going out tomorrow morning before I go fishing and I am going to renew my license in case I run into a cop that is not so understanding.

Go on the the FWC website, go to renew your license, and print one out. Its not worth the hassle. I got stopped by a FWC officer, when I fishing in my neighborhood 2 blocks from my house! The officer stopped and the first thing he asked for was my fishing license. Fortunately, I took the advice from someone from BR, and I made a photocopy of my license and left it in my wallet. I have been fishing at that canal for 15 yrs and never got stopped or looked at. But I did on that one day.

Yea it's definitely not worth the fine the one time an officer is having a bad day and decides to give you one as well.

Thanks for the FWC website tip you saved me time and money, was going to get it at academy and would have ended up buying something I don't need as well. Going to renew mine right now.

Nice fish regardless.

So I waited a little bit before posting this weeks standings and watch how Dsidle is going to post a little later on how he broke the 18" mark. LOL.

1. Joe: 21" 20.5" 20.5" 16" 15.5" = 93.5"

2. LunkMaster: 21" 19" 18.5" 17.5" 17" = 93"

3. Dsidle: 19.5" 18.5" 18" 18" 18" = 92"

4. Jacob: 21.5" 21" 17" 16.5" 15" = 91"

5. Bassinlou: 20" 19" 17.5" 16" 16"= 88.5"

6. BostonSox: 19.5" 17" 17" 16.5" 16" = 86"

7. Rovingmutt: 18.5" 18.5" 16" 15.5" 15.5" = 84"

8. LMG: 21" 17" 16" = 54"

9. FishinDaddy: 19" 18.5" = 37.5"

10: ZachD: 17.5" 13.5" = 31"

There you have it. We have 8 days left and its anybody's contest. One to two fish of the right size can mean the difference between 1st or 5th. Good luck. For the people who are travelling. You gave it a good run, have a safe trip and Merry Xmas. It was fun being your director for this tournament. We will be here when you get back, and hopefully with a new tournament director and I think new and refreshing tourney guidelines. Don't mark my words though. That's the rumor.  Next time I post standings, it will be to wrap up the December Finale.

My apologies Lou but I have to do it to you again.  Went out today with Ak and Czar for about 4-5 hours hitting up a few different spots here in orange park.  We started off pretty slow I caught one maybe 16/17" at the first spot and AK caught one as well.  That was on the craw color crank.  Moved spots and got a little more action.  I caught one small guy on the top toad and one again 16/17" on a bluegill kvd 1.0.  This was our spot with the super clear water and nice patterned fish but I forgot to take a picture.  AK had more luck at this spot than me and got a neat catch that he may share later.  Moved spots again and got skunked so we went back to our first spot I switched over to the pop-r  and tossed over to where I missed a nice one a few days back and got her this time.  21" and weighed in at 4 1/2 pounds.  caught another on the pop-r couldn't decide if it was 18 or 18.5 so I just tossed her back lol czar also got one on the pop-r at this spot too.

This culls one of my 18s and puts me at 95" for the month.

When I was out with Czar and DS I can say that I caught something that no one has EVER caught using a crank bait and I caught something that I have only seen on the Internet.

First the Internet... I caught a fish around 17" on my KVD 1.5 one hook was in its right side of the mouth and the other hook was in the other side. I take the hooks out and I notice that it has a bluegill tail sticking out of its throat, it's a pretty cool picture.

Now the rare catch... I was using the same KVD 1.5 (this is my new favorite color) and I hooked into a baby lizard. I felt bad because it was dead when I unhooked it, poor little guy.

I will post the pics tomorrow afternoon when I get back from fishing with Czar, hope to get some more wild pics of something

When you said rare, it made me remember of times when I went fishing in the park, and my lure was attacked by exotic lizards. I will normally cast my soft plastic to other side of the bank and then drag it into the water. Sometimes as my lure landed on the other side of the bank, a lizard will come out of nowhere running only on its hind legs and try to eat my lure. Craziest thing to watch.

Took him outside and he was riding around in it, may be a little too young but he will have it for a few years. His favorite was the Hug Me Elmo his face lit up smile from ear to ear saying Elmo and clapping. This is what Christmas is truly about for us parents.

I hope everyone enjoys their time today with family and friends.

You guys got some nice stuff too. My wife not only got the T3 Ballistic for me, but the rod as well to match. Then she topped it off by going to Mikes house and picking up a Hawg Tech curved handle with red accents. Some more spools of Power Pro, and a bunch of lizards and worms for bait.

Poppers can be fun and productive. Me personally, I had a blast when I use to fish chug bugs. Caught me plenty of big fish with those.

Here is a question that has always been on my mind, however more so now as the year comes to end. In regards to our ongoing monthly competition, who is going to lead the group into 2014? I know there has been rumblings of someone, or did I jump the gun and steal someone's declaration and official announcement? If so, I apologize, I have been directing this competition for so many months, that I do not want what we all have created to fall by the waist side because of my decision to step down.

On a side note, there are 4 more days left in 2013, and I believe it's 1-2 fish can still change the outcome for someone. Here are the top 5 lengths:

Jacob: 97.5"

Dsidle: 95"

Joe: 93.5"

Lunkmaster: 93"

Bassinlou: 90.5"

I know Dsidle is out of town, idk when he is returning. Jacob still has a chance to bust thing wide open. Joe can get the itch to go and Mutt will have no choice but to take him. Lunkmaster has been quiet for a while so he may be up to something. Me... well I am going to the glades tomorrow with one thing in mind actually two. 1. Find nice bass, hopefully they have started to come in. 2. Scouting for my trip on the 1st, so i can begin the New Year ahead of the game and not play catch up.

Looks like I am going to have to fish really hard the next couple of days. It would really suck to lose this months competition now. The last couple of days produced nothing and the possibilities look pretty slim that another PIG is waiting to be caught. :eyebrows:  :cry4:

Bass fishing in the spring with a fly rod can be fun with little poppers. I took a buddy of mine a long time ago out to the glades on my boat, and he fished in the back with his fly rod. He did all right.

At this rate I may have 5 fish within the 5 day time restriction

lol I can only go by what I saw in the text. Tomorrow morning I hope you get to see some of these fish up close! Funny thing is when czar caught his PB yesterday I got there about 5 mins after he released her. Then when I caught mine yesterday he helped me get her in. Then today he same thing he got there 5 mins after I released my PB... When his *** should have been there with me but he was too busy trying to scout a new spot!!! I could have used a photographer only 1 pic I got does her justice

The Bandit got off early today so we went fishing at a new spot. A friend came with. Fun but frustrating day for me lol. We caught 25 total in an hour and 45 minutes. The Bandit got an 18", 17" and 14" right off. They should have been mine lol but I gave him choice spot for finding this hole. I only caught 5 and the two biggest were 12". It was nice to be back out. We were all fishing Carolina rigged watermelon red and green or similar.

Mutt and Dsidle I documented your catches. Joe finished up at 95" WTG!!! Dsidle I gave you 22" follow the bottom part of tail of that fish and the tail is even with 22". That puts you at 99". Congrats and that makes you the man to beat!! I told you guys it only took one to two key fish at this stage to change the standings.

My day at the glades went well. Not as well as the Northern guys have been doing but none the less we had a good time. Wind was blowing hard from the East at 20 -25+ MPH and the day was overcast all day. We boated 45 fish using  an assortment of baits. I just stuck with Pitching and Frogging. My brother in law, used trick worms, flukes, and frog. Unfortunately, from the amount I caught none were contest worthy. Oh well. I did catching a pretty nice mudfish on my new Dobyns and it handled it easily. I also caught a beautiful 11" Oscar on the frog. That was my first. I am done for December. I have to rest my arm so that LMG and I can tear it up on Wed. Enjoy the pics.

fishing user avatardsidle61 reply :

ok so the story of my fish.  had to go out w the popr bc it has absolutely been on FIRE lately for our crew.  any way to get topwater strikes im gonna do it, fishing the senkos and lizards and jigs almost puts me to sleep.  so I got out after work around 330, missed a nice fish on my first cast.  not as big as the one I got but in the 18-20 range for sure.  the big guy smacked my popr about 10 feet in front of me scared me to death and I ripped my lure back on shore, just tossed it back out to the spot in front of me and popped it once and it smashed it put up a hell of a fight for being so close to shore.  took out some drag and mangled my lure.  snapped a hook off the back and bent the front ones all up.  that was the extent of my action for the day, hopefully getting out tomorrow w AK and czar if the rain holds off, I haven't got to 100" in any month so that's gonna be my goal, I think I have an 18 or 18.5 to get rid of.  heres the pic of the lure.

I used a crank for a bit but couldn't commit to it with the boys hooking up on worms. The coolest one was one that stole my worm and when I re rigged I cast to the same spot and he bit again!!! When I got him to the boat he had my first worm still in his mouth!!! I took a pic but it's hard to see. I also got a nice 19". She weighed 3.6#. This month all I posted was one 12". alright guys and gals here she is.  so as most of you can assume caught it on a popr.  Rained all morning when I was supposed to go out w AK and Czar, got a break around 1030 so I decided to head out to my spot up the street.  was working the smaller of the two ponds w no action at first.  Was about to head over to the second pond but I decided to work this weeded shoreline that I missed a nice one at the other day.  This thing hit literally 2 feet in front of me, I coulda picked it out of the water w my bare hands lol.  With all the rain it was pretty murky water or else I probably could have seen it where it was sitting.  Still put up a nice fight took out a bunch of drag before I got it on shore.  So as you can see the tape measure stops at 24"  but its also hanging off the front lol so im just gonna call it 24"  and as for weight it was 8lb 3oz.  My previous pb was 6lbs. Lou ive completely lost track of what I have left to cull but I think its either an 18 or 18.5 so this should put me at 105 or 104.5.

DS FOR THE WIN!!!!! Won the lengths and big fish of the month!!!

I will not ninja you and if I did I don't think it would matter cuz I'm at 44" depends on how u wanna call it with 2 fish that are time eligible according to the rules.

It's a shame we didn't get into anything at the new spot, Czar did but that was before we got there, then Mother Nature rained on us. But i know you arent complaining cuz if we didnt get rained on this morning and we met at the new spot you would have not caught that beast! Still it's unbelievable that Me, u, and Czar all caught our PB in a 3 day period, you would think we were fishing in the Bass Pro tank lol

Majority of people including myself use power pro braid, I use 30lb others use heavier but it's really not necessary unless you are flipping and pitching. But Power Pro is the best bang for tour buck.

fishing user avatarFishinDaddy reply :

Power Pro spectra is the best.  Don't get the new Super Slick.  The original is what you want.  And don't waste your time with a leader.

fishing user avatarDiggy reply :

I like PP and Suffix. I like 50 on my daily use baitcaster, 65 on my special usage reels. I like these weights because I usually get my lure back when casting into overhanging trees.

fishing user avatarBassinLou reply :

On the 3 outfits that carry braid on, I run with 40, 50, 65lb PP original braid. This braid could be bought at Walmart for a lower price than most. I have been using it for years and it has never failed me. As far as leaders, that's up to you. I use them in certain applications.

AH, thanks. I will have to post the pics later tonight. Been so darn busy with these holidays and whatnot. This is why I don't think I will be able to run this thing. I barely have time to fish let alone head this comp. But I do still have good ideas to really mess with people and see who can make out with the challenges. I carved the notches in my seat cover on the boat that covers the 2 batteries in the middle. I now can use it to measure fish, and not have to worry about leaving the ruler thing in my truck when Im on the boat. However, this morning I still forgot to grab the ruler and put it in my pocket, and was on the other side of the hole when I caught the one this morning. Once again I used my rod as a guide, so I will have to figure that out as well, lol.

The pic in my avatar is the one I caught today. If I waited to set the hook any longer, and I did it very quickly the fish would have swallowed it and most likely died I couldn't believe how deep it was and how it was hook, lots of blood I thought it was dead til she swam off slowly.

I will post the rest later when I transfer my pics from my phone to laptop

Not gonna lie and keep in mind I'm the one who would be knocked out but he is following all the rules put forth. I mean what's the difference between catching them all in one week or throughout the month. If someone caught all of theirs in the first week nobody would complain.

Don't want to be a rule breaker and nit pick but it is technically 5 days tomorrow 7 would disqualify my catches.

But anyway we would be tied @ 105" which means we would have to implement YOUR tie system of the biggest fish if we go by length YOU WIN (24> 23) if we go by weight YOU WIN (8.3> 7.7) too lol... Congrats man!

fishing user avatarAK-Jax86 reply :

Need to figure out how to put videos on this site but I think I have to go the YouTube route then embed it here.

I saw fish bedding at my one spot got out my gopro to put it underwater but the battery was dead! Haven't used it in weeks someone told me if u leave battery in that it will drain it so I guess that was correct. So I was using my iPhone, not underwater of course) and I tried everything to get te fish to react pop'r, senko, Uvibe none worked. Then I put on a Ribbit frog and let it sink drove the fish nuts she kept bumping it and such but wouldn't commit. After about 15 mins of trying to get her to commit she had enough I threw it back out for the 50th time it seemed and she slammed it the second it got to the bottom it was pretty cool, getting that on the gopro would have been cooler since it happened about 4ft in front of me. (I only got the footage of it messing around with the frog for a few minutes)

Second cool video I got on the iPhone is a water moccasin trying to run me off I must have been in front of its nest or something. But it was in the water across from me by this log and then it swam over I got the footage right up til it hit the bank then I ran off I wasn't trying to Crocodile Hunter this thing lmao.

Logic is bit off catch them all in one week no body cares....catch then the first week of the month post them the last week then we have a problem it is the five day rule so catches are posted in a timely manner kinda insulting for Lou to track it and then get bombarded at the end also to add a degree of honesty. Post what u get when u get and there will be no confusion on if it was got before or last month etc. If aka wants to brag or whine about all his monster in the beginning of the month then he shoulda decided to play with us all and posted instead of decided in the last week he wanted to win again lol. I understand the challenge of winning in one week since he wins all the time but earlier catches are irrelivent if not posted so who cares just my 2 cents.

Right I get that but say in January I catch 5 fish January 1-4 and post them all on January 5 what's the difference between that and if I would catch them January 26-30? We all know the rules we are here for fun first and to share our stories if he caught his fish from Christmas Day til now it's all fair game. You can't ban a guy from playing just bc he caught his fish at the end of the month.

I believe my intentions where pretty clear in the beginning of the month new winner going for big fish. Then DS won that when the day prior I had the big fish. Then here we are today and I managed 3 more for a 5fish total all since the 26th of DECEMBER.

This is a friendly thread why all of a sudden did it turn into this? Made a comment directed at DS and it blew up lol. Nobody gets all worked up over all the man crushing that's been going on.

How is there any dishonesty here? PM me if u need to cuz this open forum crying like little children is ridiculous

This is a fun competion I believe it's called bragging rights we r just having a little fun. I kept saying over and over it's not gonna affect anything

Lol this is crazy what this has turned into.

Is the fact that I KEEP stating that I caught my fish from December 27th not registering? Is is a curse word and the site blanks it out or something. 12-27-2013 that might work

Simply put everyone likes to go to Disney World but its a lot better when you are with someone who has everything planned and mapped out so you don't have to be that person and you can have fun and enjoy.

Here are my cool pics

Caught a lizard on my KVD 1.5 felt bad because the little guy died. This was sometime last week same with next pic.

This little guy had a bluegill, you can see its tail in its throat, and my KVD, the one with the lizard, stuck in its mouth. I have only seen this in pics on the internet pretty cool to see it in one I caught... greedy little fish

This one I caught today with Czar. She INHALED my crank. Took me forever to get the hooks out as you can imagine came centimeters from being a dead fish, and she was bleeding heavily. I didn't think it was going to survive but when I put her back in the water to revive she swam off slowly.

Heres the 2 from Sunday and the one from yesterday morning. The 2 from Sunday are an easy 16", and the one from yesterday morning was to my surprise a 20" fish. Once I looked at the picture and then measured the rod, it was an easy 20", maybe a little more. Darn rain this morning, but Im gonna try for a bit, maybe a little after work since I am going to close the shop about noon.

I corrected your 18" to 20" and that places you at 90". I think that has been your highest ever submitted. WTG!!

That is a very creative title, and it has a nice ring to it. LOL.

To piggy back off this thread, I hope to be back after my season is over. I understand that many of us are busy, and to take over this responsibility that I volunteered for may be a big undertaking if you want to do it right. Like, I mentioned yesterday, I will be fishing with LMG tomorrow, and I will be picking his brain as far as his ideas for this competition. I agree with MCS, this format may have gotten stale. None the less, as a competitor it was still fun for me. This competition as innocent as it was, made me a better bass fisherman at the end of the day. I learned a great deal while I  been doing this. AK, mentioned another thing about Disney world which is true. It's a lot easier to have fun and enjoy the experience when there is someone else doing the organizing. That's a perfect example, of why I volunteered to do this and believe or not I spent 6 months "organizing" this competition trying my hardest to bring in new blood and keep this competition going.

I am definitely going to miss this, that's for sure. When I come back, I hope to return with fresher ideas and formats. I wish all of you the very best, you are all great anglers and you make Florida proud . May all of you have a Happy and Healthy New year, and be safe with all of the festivities tonight. I will be home tonight, because I want to start the New Year with what I love doing. BASS FISHING!!

I will post our final numbers later today. It was fun hangin and braggin with you guys and gal. Til next time.

Lou I hope you don't leave us all hanging and still pop in from time to time to share info and joke around with all of us.

I'm thinking that when you take your leave of absense that's its just strictly the running of the comp. Because if you are leaving the thread all together it will definitely die you add to the great conversation and joking around that brings all us FL guys and even people from other states back to this thread.

No, no..... I just want to put it out there, I am just taking a leave of absence from coordinating the competition. This forum is my home and I am not going anywhere. I will be sharing my catches and sharing my outings on here. Someone has to keep you knuckleheads in line. Lol... ;)

fishing user avatarBassinLou reply :

Ok gang, here are the final numbers of 2013. I was holding for Lunkmaster, who said he was fishing this morning, but I have not seen him around. So here we go.

1. Dsidle: 24" 22" 21" 19.5" 18.5" = 105"

2. Lunkmaster: 22" 21" 19" 18.5" 18.5" = 99"

3. Jacob: 21.5" 21.5"  21" 17" 16.5" = 97.5"

4. Joe: 21" 20.5" 20.5" 17" 16" = 95"

5. LMG: 21" 20" 20" 17" 16" = 94"

6. Bassinlou: 20" 19" 18" 17.5" 16" = 90.5"

7. BostonSox: 19.5" 17" 17" 16.5" 16" = 86"

8. Rovingmutt: 18.5" 18.5" 16" 15.5" 15.5" = 84"

9. FishinDaddy: 19" 18.5" 18.5" 16.5" = 72.5"

10. Fishingator: 19" 15" 14" 12" 12" = 72"

11. ZachD. 17.5" 13.5" = 31"

12. FSTR: 20.5"

13. MCS: 14.5"

There were a total of 22 participants this month and 13 posted fish. As you can see the top 5 put up some great numbers this month. This last week there were several surges, and some of you moved up while some of us moved down. Like I said a couple of weeks ago, when the smoke settles we will see who the "King of Hill"  will be. This month it was clearly Dsidle, not only did he have longest string of fish, he also landed the Biggest fish of the month with a 8lb+ monster. Great job, and congratulations on winning this months contest.

Like I posted earlier today. This will be it for me coordinating the Bragging Contests for several months. It was fun. We had are ups and we had our downs but we stuck with it. I will be around posting, the glades is going to start firing up soon, so I will share those experiences with you all. Happy New Year!!

Thanks Lou! I just got done but didn't catch a thing worth mentioning. Went back to the first new hotspot but the weather cooled off a smidge and they weren't interested. We are having a last minute get together so I had very limited time. Happy new year all and congrats to the winners!

I had a 14.5 today in Toho but that doesn't move me far up the leaderboard.

That fished would have placed you right behind me. You would have been 7th. Looking at those numbers both of us would have needed some hail mary fish to hit top 3. LOL. It was nice having you on board this month. I hope its not the last we see of you on here FishinDaddy.

fishing user avatardsidle61 reply :

thanks for putting this all together for us Lou.  I definitely had the best month of my time on this site which has been since somewhere around july ish.  And that 8 pounder that I got was more than 2 pounds over my PB.  Its also the second consecutive month ive caught my PB hopefully I can keep that streak up.  Im gonna wait and see what next months competition looks like before joining up.  I may just enjoy trying to catch the elusive 10lb and trying some new things and places.  but regardless ill still be posting my fish and stories for everyone.

fishing user avatarBassinLou reply :

I hope everyone had a good New Years day. I had a good one. Spent the entire day fishing with LMG out in glades. Overall we did ok, landed 52 fish, biggest fish honor went to LMG who landed a beautiful 19" 4.5 lb bass. The rest of the fish were running on the small side until LMG hooked up again with a big one!! This one ran around 60" +!! It was a nice healthy juvenile gator. After that excitement we kept fishing and catching until we wrapped our day. Got some some new and fresh ideas for our competitions, however I will unvail these ideas when I return in May. I will see you guys around.

Thanks, Ive been too lazy to post but once the weather changed a bit and I went to some other places it picked up. Ill be posting more. Maybe this month Ill have some measurements. Hopefully Ill be in the top 5

fishing user avatarLgMouthGambler reply :

Had a blast with Lou yesterday. There was no shortage of fish for us that was for sure. We did see a lot of people heading in for the day. We figured they weren't catching fish anymore, but that didn't happen to us all day. Discussions for a different style of contest was had, and I would say that a slight hiatus would be good to keep it fresh. I will give all of you a slight clue: You better start getting well rounded on your lures. Happy New Year Y'all!
