Wat is ur fav. reel that u own?
I have a diawa and i really like that but wouldent mind having quantum or shimano reels either.
Curado
Shimano, period.
My personal favorite is.
Baitcasters: BPS Rick Clunn models
Spinning: Quantum and Pfluegers.
Curado!
Abu Garcia, Ambassadeur 4600 c4, it just has that special something.
I would have to say Quantum Accurist Pt. I guess thats the only kind of reel I own, along with the Quantum Kinetic PT.
Curado
whats so special about curados?
I think its because Curados are so high tech.... ! Atleast thats wat i heard.... maybe its true.
One with a big bass on the line connected to it!
Shimano Stradic
QuoteI think its because Curados are so high tech.... ! Atleast thats wat i heard.... maybe its true.
Ok? ive heald curados before and i didnt see much of a diffrence between my diawa and it.
My #1 reel is a Pflueger President LP (baitcaster).
JT Bagwell
Shimano Stradic MGf
Shimano Scorpion
QuoteOk? ive heald curados before and i didnt see much of a diffrence between my diawa and it.
This is my first Curado but you really have to try it to appreciate it...
I've thrown some high end Quantums, ambassadeurs, and BPS brands and I really like the Curado out of all of them. (Personal Preference)
I like my diawa , ive thought about buying a curado. But the nect reel im buying is a calcutta 200. i dont know after that maybe a pflugar president or a curado.. havent decided
curado hands down
the one the only CURADO
J.T. must be pretty smart. I own 6 or 7 Curado's & they are good. Pflueger just came out with a left handed President & I bought a couple. This reel is very smooth I can pitch it further than I can cast my Curado. It's a 10 bearing reel for $10. more. The Pflueger is the way to go.
I have 2 say i really like my pinnicle series reels. they have did we well.
Shimano Curado
CURADO, HANDS DOWN
Pflueger President WLP & Shimano Curado
Casting: CURADO
Spinning: Shimano Stradic
I've always been an Ambassaduer man. They're not as high tech and as advanced;just a good, solid reel.I'm fine with a 5500.
My favorite reels are my Quantum AC501cx's, AC401cx's and QG3501 Competitions.... ;D
I see the Curado followers are here.
Question I'm wondering what you all are going to do when the Curado's are changed (complete upgrade, additional bearing and a few other cosmetic changes, with a price hike of $30 - $40 more), and the older models (the last shipment of the current Shimano Curado's has just reached the USA. After these are gone that's it!), are no longer availible, come the fall.
Seems like Shimano is going to get even deeper into your pockets
You guessed it a Curado.
penn international 130 2 speed
spinning is a pflueger medalist size 6040.click to enlarge.
baitcasting is a pflueger trion round size 56.click to view.
BPS Extreme. I absolutely love them.
My Quantum 860 PT-XM, with the BPS Extreme running second.
I also own a Curado and a Castaic; decent reels for sure but in my opinion they would be overpriced at half their selling price. WAY too much plastic for reels in their price range.
Well, got to get my flameproof drawers on... ;D
QuoteSeems like Shimano is going to get even deeper into your pockets
Curado for me as well. If they're anything like the old ones, they deserve the cash.
when curado's are discontinued...they will go down as a classic. the 67 shelby's of baitcasters. i'm glad i'm getting one. just placed an order for the curado 200 SF.
sorry shimano boys:
Bait: daiwa millionaire 205 CV-X
Spinning: daiwa certate 2500
cant complain about either of the 2. i just wanted to add that as for daiwas cust. service, stateside it leaves little to be desired, but in japan its top notch.
Shimano Scorpions with uprated spool bearings and longer handles for light to medium work and ABU 6600 D5s which are my big lure/jerkbait workhorses. Fixed spool are all Shimano 1000 and 4000 size. Wouldnt use anything else. Although I got my hands on one of the first Pfleuger Presidents to arrive in the UK and I thought they were impressive. Not as good as what I already have but impressive all the same.
Quantum Accurist PT, (especially the new 2005 model) for baitcaster and Quantum Catlyst PT for spinning.
Quantum Accurist PT 860
Curado
I saltwater fish more than fresh water so for me
Black and Gold Penn 7500 for my jetty and surf pole
but I'm looking in to getting a 5500 and a new jetty pole
as for Freshwater more pinnacle hasn't done me wrong its been dropped about 12 times twice on concrete and its still holding strong. I think its a pinnacle CR-10 or something
Ok Ok I am 1 of those that has a lot of different reels; Shimano Anteres Scorpion,Tica Sculptors, Daiwa Advantage, Bass Pro Extreme,Pleuger Supreme and Summit,Ambassadeurs,Lews etc etc etc. BUT right now the reel I really consider my FAVORITE is a Bass Pro Qualifier in a 6.3:1 ratio. I can throw any thing I want and it never gives me a seconds worth of trouble. The drag is awesome and I can literally throw it all day. It rests on a 6'6" All Star rod and I would not take all the Curados in the world for it. Just my 2 cents worth. ;D ;D
Abu Garcia (Ultra Mag I) and 4600 C5 8)
BPS Prolite , got it at a good price with rod 69.99
Pfleuger President baitcaster. Although I would like to get my hands on a Curado.. probably will have to wait until Christmas!
I love my Shimano Stradic
My favorite baitcaster BPS pro qualifier
Add another vote for CURADO! There may well be others as good or possibly (Gasp!) better but changing reels takes money and lots of it. When something works, I stick with it. On a 6.5 foot medium action rod, using 12 lb. line, I can tie on a finesse worm and a 2 ought hook and make 30 to 40 foot casts. Thats smooth enough for me! Mine are several years old and I sometimes think they're better now than when new.
casting: shimano scorpion 1000mg and shimano conquest all shimano reels.
spinning :pflueger pres
I like Shimano, Abu Garcia is catching my eye. I have used a friend of mines it had some nice casting action.
Any thing from Okuma..
Casting: Shimano Calais (low profile) and CTE200GT (round)
Spinning: Shimano Stella 2500FB
Spinning: Shimano Sustain 2500FD
Casting: Recently I've been enjoying my Abu-Garcia TP3600C, and yes I have 4 Curados and a Castaic, and they are nice..but the Abu rocks!
i had 2 of them that found there way to the bottom of a lake but your'e right that they are nice!!! ;D
Abu Garcia D6 5600.. I've never fished with a low-profile baitcaster.. How do they compare to round baitcasters??
abu 5600 d6,,,jeguy,,,glad to see im not the only one who has this AWESOME reel.
I would say ??? SHIMANO all the way
Baitcasters: Curado
Spincasting: Stradic
lew's gss, really takes a whoppin.
no baitcast yet, any advice?
I like both my 5500C5 and my 6501C6 for bait cast,
Right now my Quantum Vapor is my Spinning choice.
Shimano Curado 201B
All anyone ever needs to buy are Stradics and Curados. They are the best value on the market, because of their quality and the fact that they last forever.
Shimano Cardiff, the other Round Reel
Okuma Expior 30, that is one awsome reel for the money.
Shimano Castaic SF, basically an Curado SF with thumb engagment system. So smooth.
QuoteAll anyone ever needs to buy are Stradics and Curados. They are the best value on the market, because of their quality and the fact that they last forever.
Curados yes, Stradics definately not. Symetries are cheaper and much smoother and quieter
Well fella's y'all make a good case for the curado but I hate to tell ya, the team Daiwa Sol is a better reel. Now for spinning I think the Symetre is the bomb. It's just as smooth and strong as can be and it don't matter that it's cheaper at $80.00
Pfleuger President Baitcaster
Spinning----OKUMA METALOID
Baitcast----CURADO I think, have not mastered it
yet but it's not the reels fault.
Good Luck!
Sinker48
I like the Tica Taurus Silver and Libra spinning reels although I did buy two Quantum PTI 30 Energies real smooth.

My fav is my 20 year old Lew's BB1NG. I still have all my "original" Lew's rods and reels and still use them everytime out on the water. All of them are over 20 years old and are as good now as when new.
My second favs are my old Shimano Bantam mags. Also about 20 years old. They have matching Shimano Fightin rods with them.
I guess I just like the older stuff ;D
Hans
baitcast-Curado, and my older Abu Garcias {tough as nails I swear}
spinning- no real favorite but I love my shimano Sahara. Have to try Okuma's next.
My favorites? Shimano Corsair CS300 and CS300A. Both super smooth, super quiet, and strong. Both mounted on 6' Berkley Lightning Rod's.
I have a couple of old shimano 10xsg's, i love em they cast a mile and have never let me down
Shimano Castaic.
Fantastic reel.
Casting - Daiwa TDZ 103H
ive got a couple shimanos. thats all ive ever owned. they are shimano sedona 2500 and a 1500 fb. i like them a lot. very smooth. and affordable. i am only 15 so the price helps a lot.
quantum catalyst pti.
Curados and Symetre. And when those new curados come out, I'll be sitting back buying all those "old" Curados that must be sold to make room and cash for the "new" ones. ;D
The Pfleuger President is better than the curado so far, ive only had it for a year and i can flip way farther. We will see how it holds up after 5 or 10 yrs tho
Abu Garcia 5600 ws Awsome reel
Anything from Okuma.
Since I started tournament bass fishing in 1971 I guess i have bought roughly 100 reels about one third now serve as structure in lakes from Arizona to Florida after being lost overboard. Most of the others I still have.
I still have 6 Abu Garcia Ambassadeur reels that I bought before 1975, so they are all over 30 years old. Five of these reels are 5500C reels that I still use nearly every time I go out. They get better and better with age and are completely bulletproof. It amazes me that these reels now cost almost exactly the same as they did 30 years ago, so they represent a tremendous bargain. I also have 6 more Abu Garcia "round" reels that have been purchased in the last ten years or so; these serve as my primary fishing reels.
Shimano baitcasting reels are my favorite when new but they rarely last more than 5 years. Daiwas are close but not quite there with Shimano. All of my spinning reels are Shimanos (but then its mainly because I prefer a rear drag control and few other makers offer this in a professional quality reel).
The other brands like Quantum are nice for one or maybe two seasons at best of hard fishing, but then break.
I still average buying a new Shimano baitcasting reel each year as I like to keep a couple rigged for casting small crankbaits over long distances.
Having bought tens of thousands of dollars of gear over the years you come to really appreciate quality that last and keeps getting better - thanks, Abu Garcia!
i dont know why so many of you like the shimono curoldo i dont like shimono i think there crap
my favorite reel would have to be one i dont own yet but borow from my dad all the time the diawa Team Daiwa Z Baitcasting Reel it may be expensive but i think it blows the curoldo out of the water
Speed Spool by Lew Childres"s a reel that must be fished to be appreciated.
pflueger president. love that thing. ;D
QuoteOne with a big bass on the line connected to it!
Indeed
Shamino twintowers.
Pflueger President
I was at Cabela's in Hamburg, Pa today just purchased an Okuma Aveon AE30 reel operates real smooth give the handle a quick spin and it seems to rotate forever going to Lake Wallenpauck for a six day trip from september 1st thru the 6th will give it a workout it will be on a 6' med. action Allstar "T" rod that I recently purchased also at Cabela's.

The Pa Angler
PA Angler I would be interested to see how you like the reel after using it for a few outings. I have been kicking around getting one of these myself for the new rod.
As for now my favorite is Pflueger President
After using the Okuma Aveo 30 over Labor day weekend I have come to really like this reel. Real smooth and the handle folds without unscrewing it part way or all the way off like the Quantum Energy.

Have to say,
My Abu Garcia Revo SX
I have a really old stradic model 2000 (not exactly sure of the model without looking but its around 8 to 9 years old.) That was my favorite until i just got a shimano saros 3000 a few weeks ago. Haven't fully tested the saros out yet though, but it seems wonderful at this point.
Daiwa TD-Z. Best reel Daiwa has ever built....
P.S. How do you become an Ex-member? I mean once you are a member, I thought you would have to be banned in order to lose it. I noticed Avid was listed as an ex-member as well :-?
Abu Revos hands down! Best drag in the industry period!
Don't want to stir the pile, but my Calais makes my Curado look like a tinker-toy
3 year old thread you bumped up but I'll play.
Lew's TPSS unless I need to throw something really light then it's a 50e
With my PB tied to it
Edited by Hi SalenityWonder if any of the previous posters have had a change of mind in the meantime. I wasn't a member when this thread was originally posted.
Don't have a favorite. Maybe if I fished as much as some of you. Picked up a Patriarch XT at the end of the season. Got to use it for one outing. Liked it a lot. Like its looks too. Will it be my favorite? Don't know yet. Any quality reel should last me the rest of the time I have left on this earth.
I would love to be able to fish with all of them. Problem is I have several that haven't been mounted on a rod yet, much less fished for any length of time.

My Calcutta makes your Calais look like a tinker toy.
Hmm...I guess it might be a Shimano...
My Revo S-L's are my favorite for sure. But the more I use that new 51E the more I like it!!
Daiwa zillion, abu revo toro winch, and david fritts cranking reel from a few years ago

Revo Winch
Without a doubt my favorite reel is the one I happen to be holding on the lake at any given time. Now in terms of cool factor, I'd have to say my favorite is my Zonda 10L.

Ive heard alot of positives about the zonda. Havnt tried it though
Spinning- Shimano Sustain 2500 fb
Casting- Abu Garcia Silver Max
A bit too early to say, but I'm very impressed with an used Citica 201D I bought from here. I cleaned and lubed it, and was making 50 yard casts with it the other day. Might well become my favorite reel, considering that it's on my jig rod..
umm....casting would be my core 50mg, spinning would be rw's stella 2500. One day I will own one of those!

Spinning: Pflueger Patriarch

Curado 50E for the little guys, and my Daiwa Fuego right now for everything else.
Of course, in a year those will probably be different.
My favorite reels:
Spinning: Catalyst PTi-20B
Casting: Quantum Energy PT E761 and Quantum Accurist PT AC101 HPT
Casting reels are sharing double duty as favorites.

My Stella's are the dumbest thing I've ever purchased. All it does is make me want to get ALL of my spinning reels as Stellas.
My Shimano Chromica 100b is probably my favorite reel. Is it my lightest, most expensive, farthest caster, or best looking? No it isn't but it was my first baitcaster and I can't make it backlash if I tried and it can cast pretty dang far. I like that I only paid $40 for it off the Bay. Honestly, I like all my reels in my current lineup. (Curado 200e7, Chromica 100b, Carbonlite, and Chronarch 100b.) I am a Shimano guy though but can't afford to pay $300 for their "light" reel so I got the carbonlite on sale.
My favorite reel that I own is the Core 50mg. Can handle everything really well. Close second would be the chronarch 100D7. This reel just feels solid.
Core 50Mg
I used to have a favorite but not any more. Everything works well, I take the outfit that is best suited for the species and location, it isn't just the reel it's the total package. I use a Star mh 7' 10/20 2 oz lure with a stradic 4000 20# braid and a Redbone med 7'6 3/4 lure with soron 40 15# braid as my most used outfits.

When did I change my name to mike d and write this post?
Baitcaster is the Curado.
Spinning is the President.
I have a Curado and other Shimano's, more than one Daiwa, a Pflueger or two, some BPS', a Quantum or two. Frankly I always like a new reel when I get it and continue to like it as time moves along but not appreciately better or more than my older models. Usually I buy a new reel because of newer features that are seem to be improved but I still use the older reels and never have the urge to replace them all with the newest purchase.
My favorite reel of all time ws an el cheapo BPS that I bought as a spare for a boat-in trip into Ontario. After well over 20 years the el-cheapo crapped out but I have several other reels that I am searching for parts to scavenge so I can get the old favorite functioal again. If I don't have the old job functional by ice out we will need to hold a burial service.
This reel is not special in any feature but it is small and fits my hand and fishing to a tee. My axion is pretty simple. Put the reel on the rod you in-tend for its use. If it's comfortable and in your price range buy it.
My 2009 Revo SX-L (6.4:1). I love that thing.

Geez, that's even more primitive than my centrepin!
Hard to pick one.
Megabass TD Ito 103M, modded with upgraded drag and bearings, and a carbon 90mm handle.
Calcutta 100DC. Also modded with upgraded drag, bearings, and carbon handle.
The old Curados!!! Bring them back!!!!
I gotta say my Revo Stx HS is my current favorite and all time favorite.

Have a BPS carbonlite that I really enjoy for light lures, then my recently purchased Quantum smoke SL151hpt is by far my favorite
Luna 300... I really like this thing. Like a lot.
pflueger patriarch baitcaster.
i really enjoy my bps johnny morris carbon blacks or bps pro qualifiers, even more then my curado 300E and was less then half the price.
hard to decide between my Curado E or chronarch E, but I also have a quantum tour edition pt that I have'nt used so it is pretty hard to choose.

It's still my LEWS original BB1N, pre-Browning. The new Tournament Pro is pretty sweet too..
Calcutta 201DC and Conquest 101.
pfluger patriarch baitcaster.
Since noone mentioned the Curado, I guess I will. Ever since I got my E7, its been true love from the start. I own many BPS reels, AbuGarcias, etc, but hands down my #1 is my Curado. I use it for my plastics and it will cast a country mile with almost no effort. Just got me a G6 Citica, and thats a banger too.

2-spinning 2006 Shimano Biomaster 2500
Shimano Curado E7
Supertuned Chronarch 50mg. Smooth as buttah. (thanks DVT!)
I would have to go with the Abu Garcia reels and the Vendetta rods, I really like my Revo premier baitcaster.
Revo Premier hands down..
REVO
Quantum
my new Pfleuger Trion/ Berkely Cherrywood UL setup, I know its nothing fancy but it suits my needs just fine.
Probably my Daiwa Zillion.
Actually whatever reel is filling the well at the time....
Low Profile : Tuned Shimano Curado
Round : Tuned Garcia Ambassadeur
Spinning : Stock Shimano Stradic
Tight Lines All!
Curado B has to about the most fun to take from backup status to first choice with a simple tune up.
3 years ago it was Diawa all the way for me. Had 4 of their baitcasting reels (on a collge kid budget, that was a significant investment!) The following spring when 3 out of 4 had the nut cover fall of of the handle and the nuts start working loose (ended up super gluing them), I switched to Abu since Berkley supported our fishing team in college. Restocking right now after my 5 best rods and 2 tackleboxes grew legs, and it's a combination of Revos and 2 of the Okuma models, just to try them out. So far, I love the Revos.
I like them all, they all have a place in my collection.
My Pflueger Patriarch XT with abec 7 ceramic bearings and Lew's toury pro handle knobs.
TDZ's
Daiwa fuego in both baitcaster and spinning.
