The Steez Reels ARE worth EVERY penny.
I know for sure and I own 10 of them.
I know there are some equal and/or better rods (I also own GLX and an OtterRods NFC custom) but when you pair a Steez reel and a Steez rod its a combo that's hard to beat.
Anyone that doubts that has NEVER fished with one.
I invite any that has a doubt to attend the roadtrip outing and I will gladly loan* you a Steez combo for a day.

Yawn.
Way to continue an argument that was already closed. :
Steezy my high end tackle loving friend you make me laugh.
A $ 400+ reel may be worth every dime to you. That's cool. However their is nothing your Steez can do that my BPS PQ can not, with the exception of handling a bit lighter weights. I use spinning tackle for those weights. I'm not saying they aren't lighter, smoother, prettier, less filling, and taste great, but based on my experience and budget they are not worth the extra to me. I am happy with what I have.
BTW you can use any combo I have without a security deposit. My gear was purchased to catch fish. How much I have or how much I spent is not relevant to catching fish in my opinion. I understand you're a tackle enthusiast and enjoy top of the line tackle. Good for you.
I like high end tackle and if I had one I know I'd say the same. But with my core cumara combos I just can't make myself try one out. I know you were a big core guy for a while and went back to steez but I just can't make myself take the leap!

Uhhhh, yep, and so are a great many more. Tell me, what fish have you caught that would not have caught with a snoopy rod combo. Be specific, exactly what features helped you overcome circumstances that any other gear would have surely failed you.
Personally, this sounds like something posted to illicit a response from specific members.

;D
Does it make you a better fisherman?
I doubt it.
I held a Steez rod for the first time at BPS this past Sunday. I nearly messed my pants when I held it. Then, to add insult to injury, the guy hands me the steez baitcaster to go along with it. The best way I can describe it is that it felt like holding a cloud. It was so smooth and it felt "just right". I nearly dropped to the floor. I handled many other rods including the top offerings from just about every other brand including the new NRXs.
By far, the Steez are the LIGHTEST, and most comfortable gear that I have ever held or even imagined possible. I have never actually fished one but my god I can't begin to imagine what it would be like to fish one of them.
Right now, I am in no position to buy one and probably, will never have the income to spend on those rods. Plus, the gear I own right now is TOP quality stuff and does me more than just fine.
I'm just saying, if I were to ever be in an income level that would allow me to purchase the rods while fulfilling all my other needs without sacrificing my family's quality of life, I would purchase those rods/reels in a heartbeat!
Carlos
From some of the fish stories I have read , the snoopy combo may be more fun and challenging, especially since most of the fish don't seem to be over 3#. If it were me I'd buy more affordable gear and invest the rest of the money in fishing lessons.
This is about the point where someone shows off their truck to totally throw the thread off course.
QuoteBy far, the Steez are the LIGHTEST, and most comfortable gear that I have ever held or even imagined possible.
Actually, I'm pretty sure my Core 50MG7 is lighter, and has a stronger drag.
QuotePersonally, this sounds like something posted to illicit a response from specific members.
I agree. Seems like a trolling thread to me, too.
The only rod that I own that I never think about "upgrading" is a 7' MH steez. I am completely happy with it and actually plan to get the 7'1" H this next year. I almost sold it not long after getting it and I'm glad now that I didn't. If I would just bite the bullet and buy what I'm wanting instead of trying to find something "that'll work" I would probably end up saving money! Maybe that makes the Steez worth the money right there to me.
As far as the reels go, i owned 2 103HA's and a 100HA. They were very nice reels but they didn't really out perform other reels I had at the time except in pitching light baits. The 103's could pitch light lures and weightless plastics farther than any other reel I have owned. They also felt incredibly comfortable mounted on the Steez rod. I decided to sell the reels though.
I've been thinking about maybe getting a couple of the Steez SHA reels for plastics & jigs. The 1st Daiwa reel I ever owned was a TDZ103H. I used it for a couple of months and sold it cuz it wasn't that much better than the Chronarchs & Curados I was using at the time. A year or so later I decided I wanted to try another and I've been on a Daiwa kick since. I haven't owned a Shimano since the Chronarch A & Curado B.
The way prices have dropped off on the Steez if someone really wanted they could probably put a "lightly used" combo together from ebay for $500-$550. I seen 3 of 7'MH SVF rods go from $202.50 to $222.50 last week. That's still not cheap but what is nowdays?
The shimano core 50 is an awesome reel and paired with a cumara rod its tough to beat (I owned one for a while) and at a very good price.
The steez reels are best on a steez rod, it's a pair that were made to be together but that doesn't make either one the best to everyone. There is lots of great gear in the marketplace.
The shimano/loomis GLX rods are probably some of the best next to gary loomis new NFC rod blanks. I own both and the NFC feels just a bit lighter and has more backbone.
I haven't tried the new shimano/loomis NRX rods but thinking of testing one this spring with a steez reel of course.
It doesn't matter what rod or reel you use, they all catch fish. It's more about personal preference and budget.
STEEZY THIS IS SO OUT OF CHARACTER FOR YOU......TROLLING
Not TROLLING, I just saw a lot of doubters in another thread and wanted to give an experienced opinion of expensive gear.
QuoteThis is about the point where someone shows off their truck to totally throw the thread off course.
totally stock!
Truck, smuck - who needs to spend all that money to go fishing. 22-year old car with 1/4 million miles, canoe, BPS rods & reels = over 1,000 bass caught in 2010.
Hey guys, it's all good. K_Mac put it best one time when he said something like up to a certain point, your fishing success can be limited by your gear, BUT, when you reach a certain price/quality point, you're not really adding much to your catch rate due to the increased cost of the gear. BUT - if you like high-end stuff of any kind - fishing gear, cars/trucks, whatever, cool. Just don't maintain that the high-end gear is necessary for fishing success. The thing that gets to me on this board is when someone that is obviously on a budget asks for a recommendation and gets responses for $300 rods or reels.
Just sayin... :
"Yo Steezy, I'm really happy for you , I'm going to let you finish but Shimano(core) had one of the best reels of all time...one of the best of all time!"

There's definitely something to be said for vehicles (and equipment) that you can use without worrying about what they'd cost to replace, or whether they'll still be there when you get back to the boat ramp/launch.

I understand where Chris is coming from. I cannot afford $500 reels, nor do i have the desire to fish one because of it. I limit myself to $150 sub par reels and even try to find deals on $200 that'll fit my budget even if it is last year's models.

Not a big fan of the Steez SVF graphite rods anymore. Still great blanks but to me the quality control has gone down over the years or I've just been unlucky.
The Steez SVF Compile-X, though more expensive, is what I come to expect out of the Steez line of rods even though one can argue that the difference in sensitivities between the two are at best marginal.
But I concur, a steez, or any high end reel for that matter, strapped on custom rod on a NFC IM or HM blank built by a really good rod builder is pretty much almost as good as it gets for a high end tackle junkie in terms of feel.
You should look into the "IS63 lariat" or "IS73 competition" being steez aficionado if you haven't already.
