fishing user avatarBuzzbaitkiller12 reply :

how many rods do you care usally *On a normal day not tournamnents*

fishing user avatarLucky Craft Man reply :

If I am fishing alone in my boat, up to 12 (which is the max I can fit).  If I am fishing with someone else in my boat, around 6 (and my fishing partner brings 6).  If I am fishing out of my friends boat, only 4.

fishing user avatarmasterbass reply :

Bank fishing, I take 2 baitcasters.  Yak, I take 2 baitcasters and a spinning rod.  Boat I take 4 baitcasters and 1 spinning.  I don't do tournament fishing yet.

Not that lucky, she's got the better gear!

fishing user avatarMcAlpine reply :

Probably 10-12 casting rods and ~4 spinning rods in the boat for the average tournament if I am the boater.  ~6 rods total if I am the +1.

Local pond, 2-3 rods.

fishing user avatarBankbeater reply :

In a boat, usually 4.  I have them rigged for jigs, t-rigs, weightless, and cranks/spinnerbaits.  Off the bank I carry two.  One for fishing shallow cranks, and one for fishing plastics.

fishing user avatarTeal reply :

15-20

fishing user avatarAK-Jax86 reply :

I'm a bank guy so when I hit the bank I carry 2. Then when I am on my buddy's 10ft Jon boat I carry 3. Small load compared to most of you carrying 10+ lol.

I usually have one rod with a crank, one with a soft plastic, and another with braid and a frog

fishing user avatarGrantman83 reply :

I usually carry 4 on the bank and 6 when in the back of the boat as a co-angler. That being said I own 13 rods and reels lol

You bring 29 rods for one day of fishing? How many boats do you bring to carry all your gear? Can you explain a day where you might need all those rods?

fishing user avatarMaico1 reply :

13-15 or so......

fishing user avatarWIGuide reply :

10-11

fishing user avatarmjseverson24 reply :

25-30 depending on the lake... I dont like having to retie if i get cut off, or if the lure I am using is not producing the way i would like it to. I also would consider myself a junk fisherman, if one technique is really producing i will stick with it, but more often than not I would say i use every single rod i bring for at least a few minutes (except the punch rod that one probably gets used the least). its kind of like golf, if I could bring 25 clubs instead of 14 i would...

Mitch

fishing user avatarJigMe reply :

Fishing from the boat 10-12 rods, and 1 rod if I am fishing from shore or local pond.

fishing user avatarlmbfisherman reply :

Here is what I carry depending on the situation:

For the bank - 4 rods, (2 Casting and 2 spinning)

Kayak - 6 rods (4 casting and 2 spinning)

Co-Angler 5 or 6 rods - (3-4 casting and 2 spinning)

Having state that, I have 20 bass rods.  Yes I have a problem, but at least I'll be ready when I get my boat either a Nitro Z7 or Tracker 176TXW.

I'm in a similar position.  However, I still have more reels than rods so I am looking to add even more this year.  Darn Bait Monkey!  :violin-011:

7 or 8 for me, the wife and dogs.  If I go alone or with someone else in my boat, I take 4 or 5.  If I'm on someone elses boat, I'll take 2 or 3.

For me it's 2.  One spin and one baitcast.  I know...  That shame! :cry3:

fishing user avatarThe Rooster reply :

I started down that road to having a bunch of different rods, and turned back. This year I'll be using 4 rods for about everything, and trying to make that become just 3 again, like in the old days. Right now, I still own about 10 rods after having sold some recently. I'm just tired of having such a large collection of stuff to maintain, feel like I have to use it because I own it, and having it sitting around at home reminding me of all the money I've wasted. You guys up in the teens and 20's for number of rods, there's no way I could stand that.

fishing user avatarNathanW reply :

usually like 3 or 4 spinning and 8-10 casting.

Look at it this way.  You have one less forum to read since Tackletour wouldn't let you join with only that amount of tackle.  :hahaha-024:

It's true...  However, you should see my ski gear room-  I could have a brand new boat fully stocked with NRXs and Stellas!    I am big into handmade skis and climbing mountains to ski them and that requires a ton of gear.  The past few years I've been getting really into fishing and have been building an arsenal...  But it's slow going when you have limited funds and like nice things!

Maybe the gear fairy will hook it up one of these days or somebody here will want to trade me sick gear for some custom welding or metal fab work, who knows haha

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

It's the same, tournament or not if I'm in my boat. A couple dozen or more. If I'm a guest, four to eight. Shore fishing, one or two.

fishing user avatarEsoxWI reply :

6 - 5 BC and 1 spinning.

fishing user avatarbuzzed bait reply :

i can take up to 7 rods in the kayak.  5 usually get the job done for me.  if i'm hitting the river it's only 2, maybe a 3rd if there's a chance of catching some trout

fishing user avatarIluvsmallies reply :

I will be bank fishing and kayak fishing and I will have three at all times..two baitcasters and one spin

fishing user avatarCatt reply :

Only 5! ;)

fishing user avatarBassinLou reply :

I am pretty simple. 6 b/c's on the boat, and 1 b/c on the bank.

fishing user avatarSudburyBasser reply :

From the bank at most two.

Fun fishing from the boat, probably two to three.

Co-angler in tournaments, six max.

fishing user avatarMissourifishin reply :

Three. Bank fisherman.

fishing user avatarGot1Fishing reply :

I don't own a boat... yet! I have a 5 year plan for that after college...

Co-Angler: 7 rods

Bank: 1 rod

P.S. those of who who carry more than 1-2 rods for bank fishing... who do you do it? I find it way too uncomfortable walking around with multiple rods + your tackle.

fishing user avatarFlipnLimits reply :

My rig has 12 rod tubes so I bring 12 in the boat.  I have spare rods, without reels, around the house and garage.  Some I buy to fill a gap and if I don't like it, it sits there, like a recent Crucial, and others are spares of what I do use and a few that aren't made anymore.

fishing user avatarfadetoblack21 reply :

I bring between 4 and 5, 2-3 baitcasters and 1-2 spinning. Never understood why someone who is not tournament fishing would need more than a hand full of rods, but I guess I'm not too impatient to retie if I need another lure to throw.

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

Usually from 8-12, more on certain trips, down to 1 if time is limited and I'm only wanting to fish 1 kind of bait (usually a big swimbait).

Back pack and 2 rods in each hand, if going in boonies.. 2 rods though. When on boat 15

fishing user avatarskeletor6 reply :

Let's see....11 rods

fishing user avatarAQUA VELVA reply :

Five BC and three SP in the boat all the time.I once had a guy on shore watching me take all my rods out of the rod locker and he said,'' Wow, how many rods do you need?'' I replied,'' As many as it takes''.

fishing user avatarreb67 reply :

I only have 4 so 4

fishing user avatarstratoliner92 reply :

6 BC

1 SPN

fishing user avatarHi Salenity reply :

10-12 on the boat but only around 5 on deck.

fishing user avatarSirSnookalot reply :

Depends what I'm fishing for and where I'm doing it, 3 combos at most.  On the boat I have a trolling set up, drift set up and jigging/casting set up.  Any time I'm walking it's 1 outfit only.  Fishing from fixed position like a jettie I'll have a med spin and mh spin set ups.  Which ones I take, that's up to the kind of fish running as well as the type of weather, heavy wind 7' rods, light wind 7.5 & 8 footers.

fishing user avatarFish Murderer 71 reply :

8 baitcasters (6 technique specific 2 multi-technique) and three spinning (drop, shakey, and skipping jig)

fishing user avatarww2farmer reply :

I have nine casting combos, and four spinning combos total. Usually they are all on the boat at once. But sometimes I remove a few if I don't think I will need them for a while.

fishing user avatarcbass12 reply :

In my boat probably around 12, if in somebody else's boat around 6-8 depending on the lake.

fishing user avatarvolchuck reply :

1 baitcast and 1 spinning on a bank walk, the same on my canoe,

for the club tournaments back of the boat, Im ususally taking 3 baitcasters and 1 spinning for drop shot and shakey heads

fishing user avatarDave P reply :

7-8 BC rods and 1 Spinning rod.

fishing user avatarnew2BC4bass reply :

Walking the shore 2, but honestly would prefer to only carry one.  Seems like if you got em, you think you need to take em.  I'll carry 8-10 in the car regardless of whether I will be walking the shore or taking my boat.  I'll take 4 or 5 on the boat with me.  Will exchange them when I want to try different set-ups.  I like to use all I take with me so none feel left out.

fishing user avatarJeff H reply :

Variety is the spice of life!  I have not jumped back into competition again...yet, but the rod locker is always pretty full.  I fish a lot of different lakes that vary quite a bit in water clarity and structure/cover options so there is a little bit of everything on hand.  Usually around 12-14 casting and 5-6 spinning rigs on any given day.  Usually no more than 5-6 on deck though and most happy on those days where only 2-3 may be out!.  I don't like a lot of rods laying out.

I usually bring 2 when bank fishing, I keep my tackle in a backpack to free up my hands

fishing user avatarmikeeasttn reply :

I take 6 baitcasters and 3 spinning rods.  Twice that if my grandson goes.

fishing user avatarRoLo reply :

I bring 7 rods, my wife brings another 7

so there's always 14 pre-rigged outfits onboard.

Roger

fishing user avatarfishva reply :

1 from the bank, 2-3 when I'm lucky enough to go out on someone's boat.

I like to keep things simple and remove the possibility of overthinking things.

fishing user avatarDavid D. reply :

Y'all are making me jealous....

I'm just getting seriously into bass fishing, so I am limited on what I can afford (okay, that part comes from being a college student). I currently own two casting setups and one spinning, so that is what I take whether I am bank fishing or a guest on someone's boat.

fishing user avatarAmarley reply :

7-12 typically up to 15 depending on conditions and how well I know what I'll be throwing on a given day.

That's no big deal. Your inventory will grow over time. I started out with 3 rods and could basically fish the same techniques I can now with 20 rods. It just comes to fine tuning your rods to get very specific with techniques and cover. Plus you're buying less time in chaning out your setups while on the water. If I backlash with 10 rods, I just throw that one to the side if I can't get the nest out, haha.

fishing user avatarolegs reply :

I take 4 baitcasters and 3 spinning rods.

fishing user avatarMunkin reply :

I do a lot of junk fishing so I carry more than I need just in case. On average about 12 rods but my record was 27 (with rod sleeves you can get a lot of rods in a locker). This weekends tournament I only plan on taking 6-8 rods which is about as minimal as I get.

fishing user avatarDarren. reply :

I don't fish tourneys, so every outing is a "normal day" for me.

I'll carry between 2 and 4 rods on my kayak.
