I Bought A Lady President And I'm Not A Lady 2024

fishing user avatarschplurg reply :

This thread isn't about the reel exactly, so I didn't start it in that forum. It's more of a social thing. Mods feel free to move it though if needed.

I couldn't pass up the deal on Pflueger's website. A Lady President spinning reel for $21 - clearance. Normally $60.

It's pink, yessirree by golly! But it's a President for $21.

Before I decided to buy it my friend was saying it's too pink. I thought about painting it, and if I received it and didn't like the color then I would. I watched a few videos on people painting reels to see if I could.

I received it today and it is quite pink! There are two different lady models apparently and they are a little different. This seems to be one that is only available at certain times, and normally at full price(?). I read that somewhere. The pink color is a little different on them, and so is the design of the handle and other parts. I was gonna post a link to their site but the reel I bought is no longer there.

Anyways, it's pink but I kinda don't care. I'm a little colorblind anyways so I don't notice colors as much as other people I think. And this is a quality reel. It feels really nice. Dude...$21 for a Prez.

I almost didn't order it because of the color. That seems really stupid. I don't care if people think it's feminine or "gay" or anything else. I mean I care a little maybe, hence the thread, but I'm going to use it as is. This is an awesome reel for the price. I feel like I'd be stupid NOT to buy it. I only own one rod and reel, a BPS cheapie.

So curious what y'all think. Am I gonna get a bunch of crap from you guys at the dock? ???? I read a forum, maybe here, where guys bought the reel and didn't care. Others won't touch it.

You don't have to be politically correct here, tell it like it is. I am going to use it as is either way.

Would you fish with this reel?

fishing user avatarMN Fisher reply :

A President reel for 21?

It could be yellow with purple polka dots and I wouldn't care. Go for it and use it well, I won't even mention it again.

fishing user avatarschplurg reply :

I was hoping the reel would still be available when I started the thread. In case anyone wanted it. Took awhile for FedEx though. As far as I can tell it isn't for sale now. With tax and shipping it was $28.

fishing user avatarGlaucus reply :

Good deal. At the end of the day, it's the same thing. My OCD wouldn't allow for it, but that's my own problem.

I recently picked up 2 more Presidents for $30 each. A local business had a going out of business sale and fishing gear was half price. Unfortunately it was a Walmart knock off kind of a store and the Presidents were the only worthwhile buy.

The only political thing I can say is, I'm surprised the angry leftist mob hasn't insisted that a Lady President is sexist and demanded it to be taken off the market.

Oh (and but) if I could buy all purple reels I would. Purple is my favorite color. I just don't dig pink at all. And I wouldn't give a bleep what any insecure dude had to say about it.

I would, but I've never cared much for convention or cared what folks think. I put pink handlebar tape on my bike for breast cancer. A reel is a reel. I can see how some guys would feel insecure or otherwise wouldn't want to do it.

There's a video of me somewhere dancing to this Taylor Swift song while I was fishing. Didn't look much different than that flamboyant gif.

My wife was fishing with me and she was jamming to it. I decided to have some fun with it.

It's funny, when I read some forums about people buying this reel a lot of them said it was for their wives and that the women liked the pink color and were happy to be "represented" in a sports market dominated by men. A few women posters commented saying the same themselves. Not one complained about it being sexist.

I've known plenty of women in my life who like being women, being pretty, etc. The people who get their panties in a bunch ("pun" intended) are often not women at all, but do-gooders who feel they must be offended for the people who don't know they should be offended.

Anyways, back to the reel - I can't wait to try it out. And it's also kind of funny that pink is a color most men spend their lives trying to get at.

Aerosmith think pink is cool. It's their favorite crayon!

Purple ain't pink though! ;)

I have a friend who thinks I should paint it. I thought I would too, maybe, but now I doubt it. I fish alone most of the time for now anyways.

As for the upside-down spinning photo, every once in awhile I will switch hands due to tendonitis, but I couldn't hold it like that for long.

Painting it: I could ruin it, plus gotta buy paint and clear coat. I could have paid for a Men's Prez or close to it if I do that.

It would be kinda cool to paint a reel, but I'd rather fish!

I personally have no problem with the color itself. I mean aside from the "girls like pink" aspect that's ingrained in us/me, it looks fine. Some people have favorite colors and all that, I really don't. It looks kinda weird actually, but like I said I'm a little colorblind.

The regular Lady Prez looks more hot pink to me than this model.

I was hoping to try it this week but I see rain for the next several days. We'll see.

fishing user avatarGlaucus reply :

I wouldn't paint it. It works perfectly fine as is, looks aside. Don't fix what's not broke. You somehow mess up and have to get a new one, might as well have paid for a regular one at that point.

fishing user avatarredmexican5081 reply :

I bought my wife a lady pfleuger combo because she liked the pretty teal and white swirls on the rod.  I use it more than she does, it works great for twitching smaller topwater spooks and poppers.

Use what works, if others are busy talking about or laughing at your gear, they are missing out on the fish you will be catching.

fishing user avatarscaleface reply :

I picked up a rod from Gander Mountain , the Lady Guide series .  Its in my starting lineup .

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

My wife fishes with a Quantuam Energy PT 25 on a St. Croix Avid Pearl. It's feminine looking combo for sure, but I'd be lying if I said I hadn't used it more than once. It's also a more expensive combo than most of my spinning combos so sometimes I just like to use it to see what it's like to use one that nice ????

fishing user avatarschplurg reply :

Awesome!!!

I've been fishing for really only almost a year and this is the nicest reel I've used, once I actually use it I mean. I already understand it to be a good deal even at normal price so when I saw it for $21 I couldn't believe it.

I should have bought two. They only had the one size though - model # 6935LB. I guess it's a 3500, 35 whatever. Specs match similar size Presidents.

Can't wait to try it.

Good luck and have fun. I wouldn’t paint it. Just fish with it the way it is who cares. I’ve never seen one but it’s only the color. Great price and as one poster said earlier who cares if it’s yellow.

I bet you can paint just fine. But you might do a crappy paint job and it may be even less appealing than the factory pink.

hope you catch a personal best with it.

fishing user avatarfin reply :

I saw it for $33 back in November. I saw it was down to $21 in December and thought about it more seriously, but I never got one. I joked about my buddies giving me a hard time about it, but honestly, I don't think anyone would really even notice. I don't look at other people's stuff very closely. I wouldn't paint it, you'll probably get some fun out of it.

I noticed the old style Lady Presidents are on clearance from the Pflueger site for $33 (down from $60). It's a mauve color, doesn't really look pink in the picture. 9.9 ounces though, that's the heaviest one I've seen. Sharky is 9.2, Pfluegers and Diawa are 8.8/8.6. My fishing buddies would have a field day with me fishing with a pink reel though. lol

Pflueger had some KILLER deals on their website. ALL GONE now though. I grabbed a couple Patriarch XT baitcasters, regular price $249, for under $90 each with free shipping! That's after using their 10% off coupon. I should have bought more with that sale!:D

Pflueger offering a Lady reel is offensive to folks because they don't offer a Gentlmen reel, out of touch with current the feminine population. Pflueger should simply call the reel what it is a color option.

You got a goo deal. Who cares what it looks like? I use my daughter's pink spinning reel sometimes. It came off a girls' Ugly Stik combo, but I changed the rod to one my dad had. The Ugly Stik rod was a little too "whippy".

;) Too hairy. TMI probably but yikes!

Weather forecast here insists it has been raining for two days, but it's been mostly cloudless. Sucks because I would have fished.

Nah, I'm not painting it. What matters is if the fish like the reel! Thanks for all the input everyone! I'll post vids of me using it on my little Youtube channel so the whole world will know about it soon. Well a few hundred people maybe haha.

I'm curious as to what type of rod and line you guys would put on this reel. I guess it might depend on what you already have. Right now I use mono on a 6.5' MF cheap BPS combo. I have a Cabela's 7' medium rod my Dad gave me that needs a reel. "All Pro" I think. It's all I have for now. I'm just getting started.

The reel part number has 35 in it, but I remember the specs falling between Pfluegers 30 and 35 size regular Prez reels. It has 10 lb drag, weighs 9.x oz I think.

Right now I'm shooting for stripers off the bank, and some bass at a lake off the docks. I intend to get into bass fishing more and will have a small boat soon. But I like catching stripers as well and I do it more often.

I'm thinking/guessing (like I said, I've been fishing less than a year) maybe a medium rod and possibly loading it up with 20lb braid, although the bank fishing I do can be rocky, so maybe not. Could use a leader. I've never used braid.

Just trying to decide the best setup for a second rod. Would it match up well with a MH?

I just assumed the one you got was the older model being replaced by the other one, but I'm just guessing.

I would not hesitate to use pink braid, seriously. Those bright colors are great. I'm using bright yellow, which is pretty popular with a lot of people here. The pink cost a little more than the yellow I use though.

It's widely believed that those who are the loudest about it are the ones you need to worry about, for those who worry about such things. Maybe you gave your friend some good advice. Sounds like you have him figured out.

I managed a strip club for five years (yes, women) and later married an insanely beautiful and sweet woman (divorced now). Thanks to this thread I see how silly it is for me to care what a bunch of dudes think. I care what women think sometimes.

In fact, caring more about what dudes think seems kinda - um ya know? ~wink~

I'll be fine with my Lady Prez.

Seriously though, I do appreciate that some guys feel they can't use it or just don't like it, obviously, or I wouldn't have started this thread. I almost didn't buy it. Hey I live in Cali, it's not really such an issue here I'd imagine haha.

I saw it on clearance a few weeks ago but it was for $39 I think, so I kept a browser tab open and refreshed that page every few days. Sure enough, it went down to $21 again :)

It's an insanely good deal if you can handle the color. If not maybe you know someone who can. It isn't that pink either. I caught my PB on it a few weeks ago - 5.25 lb so I don't care what color it is! I have zero complaints about it.

Some guys go out of their way for a pink reel like this TD-Z personal order with purple parts.  Not my cup of tea but impressive.

And what exactly is wrong with this reel?  :teeth:  BTW, I can't let my daughter see this picture.  Pink is her favorite color.  It would look very nice on the pink rod I had built for her.

How can you expect the fairer sex to fish very long with a reel this heavy when most guys want a baitcast reel to weigh 6 oz. or less because 9 oz. is too tiring to fish with all day?  :D

Thanks schplurg, I have a few more presidents coming my way :)

Pink is my second favorite color, after green.  In just about every other culture, pink is masculine.

That reel is lit.  I'd fish with it.

Same.

If I knew of an electric purple reel of quality, I'd be them all.

ETA: Except for pink being a favorite color, as it's not, but that particular reel is sharp. Purple is my favorite color though.

fishing user avatarBassWhole! reply :

My first racing road bike was pink (Colnago). I wrap my handlebars in pink, and wear pink socks for breast cancer awareness month. We used to get pliers and shears in pink cause they were much less prone to get stolen on the head boats. I don't own a pink reel, but I would fish one no problem. I guess if I was insecure or had a small thingy, I might feel differently...

fishing user avatarGreenPig reply :

I'd make it my loaner reel for my rodless buddies and get pictures. They'll have their own by the next trip.

fishing user avatarschplurg reply :

I'm wondering if I should buy the 40 as well as the 35 I already got. I don't have a rod for it yet but that's fine.

A quality spray paint would work wonders and honestly it's the only way I'd fish it. Only thing worse would be using it like this????

I had to correct a friend who used to do this a few years ago.

There's a group of 3 ponds 30 minutes from me that I go to once or twice a year. Last year I saw a teenager holding his spinning rod like this and somehow, and i don't know how, trying to cast it like he was fly fishing. I've gone back once this year so far and saw that same teenager doing the same thing. I didn't say a word because, I just, like, I don't know... Was flabbergasted?

My wrist hurt bad enough a few times that I tried fishing my spinning rod that way, the one with this reel on it. Tendinitis. It didn't really work. I ended up switching to lefty.

One thing about this reel - I've showed it to many people and they don't mind this color of pink so much. I mean it isn't hot pink it's more like a salmon. Nobody has ever commented on the color.

My friend that gave me a hard time about it at first has been fishing 40 years and so far my one-year of experience is out-fishing him every time, with this reel :) I should buy him one haha!

I actually find this reel to be very light, but that's probably due to my limited experience. My BPS combo setup is like a brick compared to this, and with my tendinitis I can fish so much longer with this pink one. Could be the rod too.

Mine arrives tomorrow, can't wait! I'll have 3 decent rods to use instead of 2.

Hahaha so much worse than a pink reel.

id rock a pink reel all day. Honestly who gives a *** lol. If anything you will hear it from a close friend. I doubt a guy is gonna cruise by and chirp you ????

Or you could slap a small breast cancer sticker on it and make everyone feel really bad when they say anything about it ????
