Shimano is going to drive me to bankruptcy. A magnesium Curado E style reel that weighs 5.5 oz.
I have a feeling this will be my first JDM reel. :-[

Shimano reels made for the Japanese markets are fantastic. I know the Biomaster is made in Japan not Malayasia and the quality is terrific.
QuoteI have a feeling this will be my first JDM reel.
Wait until you see the price tag.
QuoteQuoteI have a feeling this will be my first JDM reel.Wait until you see the price tag.
Price is in the Japan Tackle link. $389. :-[
Hmm thats nice. They can keep it for that price though! ;D
Look for it on eBay. Got my Anteras DC a.k.a the Calais DC here in the U.S.A. for $300.00. All of the Calais DC's were going for $150.00 more. Same real just a different name.
Jerrod
I really liked that Fireblood real that Shimano came out with. However, the ridiculous name and price kept the monkey away.
Burley,
Bantam1 hinted that I needed to wait for Icast... and I was looking for a 50MG replacement... Perhaps there going to be a domestic version to be unveiled at the show. ?
Save your pennies, bro, you can always circle back to this one!
Yup, I've been eyeing up that sucker for a couple of weeks now.

BaitMonkey HERE I COME !!!!
And here I am with a big grin on my face and my credit card on my hand waiting anxiously to put my hands on one of them reels.
Does it resemble a Pflueger to anyone else?
I think it looks dang sexy but I'm not paying that much for a reel.
QuoteDoes it resemble a Pflueger to anyone else?I think it looks dang sexy but I'm not paying that much for a reel.
No...it looks like a TD-Z.
Anyway; I have no doubt this reel will be coming to the U.S. It is the Mg50 Replacement, or a 'Core 50'. The problem is....ICAST is a looong ways away! Shimano also better leave it alone for the U.S. market....I swear, if it comes over here and the paint is silver with a gold spool....I'll @#%^&**!
I got a simple question, what difference does it make what color the spool is? You can't see it anyway once you have it filled with line.
QuoteI got a simple question, what difference does it make what color the spool is? You can't see it anyway once you have it filled with line.
Most people don't put as much line on a spool as you do.
After casting you can see the side which simply accents the beauty
of the reel. I have "Smoke" spooled up on my Core which contrasts
nicely with the red spool, gunmetal gray casing and dark blue/black
rod.

QuoteI got a simple question, what difference does it make what color the spool is?
It makes all the difference in the world.
QuoteYou can't see it anyway once you have it filled with line.
That doesn 't matter, you know that underneath the line the spool is the color you want it to be.
QuoteMost people don't put as much line on a spool as you do.
Then they're not getting the full benefit of the reel. I fill mine to 1/8" from the rim.
If your looking at how purdy your spool and line is while your fishing then that is the least of your problems.
If I had that reel, I'd have to buy a matching pair of shoes and belt. ;D
It does look like a TD-Z, but who cares. Great to see Shimano's new designs. So far everything looks lean and mean. And light, which is great news to Shimano buyers.
QuoteThen they're not getting the full benefit of the reel. I fill mine to 1/8" from the rim.
Closer to 1/16-1/32.
A color anodized spool just looks nicer. Even with line on your spool, you still see the edges of the spool, which highlights the reel similar to what winding checks do to a rod. Most spools are anodized, so why not anodize it a cool color? Gold is so 2001 8-)
It's kind of scary when spool color out weighs how the reel performs.
QuoteIt's kind of scary when spool color out weighs how the reel performs.
who said it does?
Shimano needs to have a swept handle & star drag to keep it up to date.
QuoteIt's kind of scary when spool color out weighs how the reel performs.
You'd be hard pressed to find someone who believed that. Performance is a given with a $300 Shimano....
QuoteShimano needs to have a swept handle & star drag to keep it up to date.
As Soon as Quantum and BPS copied Daiwa's swept handle, I wondered why daiwa didn't patent it (Obviously they couldn't for one reason or another). Shimano and Daiwa have always had their own styles...they are both big companies that have large R&D departments. The swept handle is an improvement, but I don't think Shimano will utilize the technology just out of principle . I'm being serious....

How many threads do you think start out with I am thinking about an ABU or A Flooger and want to make a choice and then there are at least a half a dozen SheMano Steering posts on that thread, but they get to stay :-? :

Muddy...I understand your cause. There is no doubt most anglers on message boards prefer Shimano or Daiwa reels, but those brands account for most of the U.S. reel sales so it makes sense. I own and love 5 Quantum PT Superlite rods, and Quantum isn't nearly as highly regarded as it was in the '80s and early '90s. I'm OK with that. I have my favorites, but I realize some young and new anglers are influenced by message boards and if your brand isn't a 'favorite' it can be insulting.
There is no cause here, I am bustin you know whose chops thats all. I am not sponsored or make out in any way by steering any one a particular way. I use what I use and I ain't gonna convince anyone, or make out if I do to change
Just messing with the sheriff, I do not need any sympathy cards Thank You ;D

I know...
We are making a concentrated effort to keep threads on topic.
I admit, I have been an offender on occasion, but going forward,
we will try to keep "other brands" out of the mix. However, when
the typical "which brand" thread is posted, GAME ON!
BTW, I'm still fishing the STX on my jig rod. Surprised?

Just like the gearheads for photo gear (duh, Canon/Nikon/Leica/Hasselblad), or even worse, guitarists. Try debating Santa Cruz, Collings, Lowden, etc. Fishing seems to be no different. :

Color definitely isn't a priority, but if you have the same two reels available in two different colors...why not pick the better looking one?
Looks is always a priority, just not a major one like how well the reel is built. With shimano you know your getting a quality product. Thats why looks are more of a priority.

I don't fish in jeans either.
I don't care too much for bling-bling, but that's just me.
Otherwise, I care a lot about aesthetics...a lot. My
preference is for rod & reel combinations to look like
a gun and perfect in every way. I'm particularly fond of
black and silver. My line color matches, too!
Dress, purse and shoes...just like my girls.
8-)
Me too, I even clean my cork rod handles on a regular basis with denatured alcohol.
Snook, if you'll apply some U40 cork sealer or Birchwood & Casey gunstock oil to the cork you can just wipe them off with a damp rag.
Protects the cork too.
I ain't feeling the Metro Sexual Fisherman deal!
whats next: matching tackle bags, with terry cloth fishing robes with matching fluffy Slippers?
Get a reel that you like, slap it on a rod you like and go fishing, how hard is that? :
I understand guys have rooms full of tackle and are officiandos
some guys are Antique Collectors,i have no opinions here
But the SPORT is called FISHING , used to be a way for a man to throw all worries to the wind and relax! 8-)

A lot of people don't go to all the trouble you do to make
spaghetti sauce. Just heat up some Ragu in the microwave
and boil some noodles. What's the big deal, it's Italian!
Ragu is not Italian: no Italian would use Corn Syrup,Sugar,Xanthan and what ever else in that crap.
Fishing , as I was taught was kind of a guys day out not a teenage girls night out
When you get more into how stuff looks, or makes you look more than the functionality of it all you loose me , way behind.
Wouldn't you consider the way a house looks before you buy it? What about a car? I would certainly think that if you are spending money on something you would make sure it is something that you like to look at.

I agree with you on that. But now people are talking about choosing line that makes their reel stand out. I could care less about looks. Take G-Loomis for example. They matched their rod colors to a turd!!
I guess it's just like baits. Some are just made to catch the eye of the angler!!!
QuoteTake G-Loomis for example. They matched their rod colors to a turd!!
What's that suppose to mean?
QuoteWouldn't you consider the way a house looks before you buy it? What about a car? I would certainly think that if you are spending money on something you would make sure it is something that you like to look at.
Only with women young man, only with women. You can't buy a good woman, but you certainly can be picky in the choice dept. I don't even care if my clothing clashes 8-)
QuoteQuoteTake G-Loomis for example. They matched their rod colors to a turd!!What's that suppose to mean?
I think what he's trying to say is that most of the G. Loomis lineup doesn't really look all that great. They don't try to impress anybody with looks. They are very old school when it comes to aesthetics. But they're rods fish amazingly and that is what matters to their company.
I find the IMX and GLX colors to be rich, deep and beautiful.
Classic styling with a subtle accent, refined and true. There
is nothing I would change.
8-)
I, personally, think Loomis rods look like poop, but that said, they are great. ;D
Loomis rods would be perfect if they got rid of the foregrip and the plastic looking butt cap >
QuoteQuoteTake G-Loomis for example. They matched their rod colors to a turd!!What's that suppose to mean?
Look at a turd.... then look at a IMX or GLX. Neither have any fashion sense :-?
I'm not knocking the rod at all. I own two (956 and MBR844) and they are awesome. They just aren't as "Hip" as some of my other rods. Look at the new Dobyns.... not only are they eye catching, but they perform well.
QuoteI find the IMX and GLX colors to be rich, deep and beautiful.Classic styling with a subtle accent, refined and true. There

QuoteI expect that from people your age
Touche!
;D ;D ;D
They could slap a paint job on the IMX and GLX but it would add tip weight and negatively affect the balance. Function over fashion is what made them the standard by which others have been judged for 20+ years.
Fashion is great, only when it doesn't hurt function. (IMO)
I agree completely Flechero. But it would've been just as easy to keep the blank a matte black color with a mean gold or silver bone fish logo and look nice. Remove the foregrip. Same high quality cork full rear grip. Either a decorative butt cap or a rubberized cork. All black hardware. I can't imagine anything better then that right there :'(
You guys are nuts.
I just went out to pet my babies and call me crazy, they are beautiful.

True... but I didn't mean ugly is good. These days, I do put thought into (the looks of) my builds... even the "stealth" rods are intentionally color coordinated.

Your rods are works of art, I wouldnt put them in the same category of any mass produced rod, no matter if they are considered the standard
That rod you built for Russ is beautiful.

What have you got against fluffy slippers?? And this from the guy who made "French Vanilla, Ameretto, Hazlenut" coffee every morning on the Lake Fork Road trip.
I think I am hearing some mixed signals here....
