Little Shimano Sneek Peek 2024

fishing user avataraavery2 reply :

Sorry no pictures, just some info as to what we might be seeing at the upcoming ICAST

This info was posted on another site and confirmed by Bantam1

""" I was just at the Bassmaster elite tourney at lacrosse and asked about the new shimano chronarchs. Luckly the shimano rep showed me the new chronarchs. I was able to cast and feel the new chronarchs on a rod. The new breaking system seems wicked with a central cylinder type breaking almost like a mgx or gen3 premier. The frame is 1 piece carbon ci material. Color is grey with little red outline. Reel weighed in about 6oz. So it basically looks like a core. Sweet deal though shimano rep said price will be around $250."""

Dan, "Bantam1" did say that the reel at the tourney was shown to only a select few and was a prototype.  Might give some insight as to where Shimano is going with their reels.

fishing user avatarJrob78 reply :

Can't wait to see what they have to offer. I hope the Chronarch moves back to its proper place in the lineup instead of the white Curado it is now.

This may be sweet!

I agree, the choice of frame material is interesting, maybe it was only for the prototype.

fishing user avatarJrob78 reply :

I don't know much about the ci material but if it behaves like a non-corrosive magnesium, i'm interested.

fishing user avatarColdSVT reply :

hmmm...may be able to score some white chron Es here soon for the cheap....but I cant wait to see the new one!

fishing user avatarSmallmouth Hunter reply :

Can you go into a little more detail for me about the braking system? I have never owned a revo mgx or premier so I can't get really picture what you're talking about. Thanks

Check out this video, it will show you what the REVO IVCB braking looks like and how it works.  Starts at about 1:14

That's pretty interesting stuff. I'm really excited

Oh, and check this out. (its a post I found on TT forums):

"I cornered a Shimano factory rep at a local show last weekend. He offered the following to me with no hesitation:

The new Chronarch line will be unveiled at iCast in July. They will be based on the current 2013 JDM-only Metanium line. Sweet reels.

Sizes 50 and 150.

Pricing in the upper 200's range. The will hit stores in August. $279.99?

He could not confirm if all gear ratios will be coming for both left and right, but the current Chronarch line gives love to the lefties, so I'd imagine it will be the same deal here.

The rep also told me the Core line will not exist as a result of the up-market move of the Chronarch line. I'm assuming this means magnesium like the Metanium? Stupid of me not to ask the question."

Also this:

"The rep that told me the Core would be discontinued offered it up with no prompting on my part. I simply asked him when the Metanium line was coming to the US, and he told me it would be the 2014 Chronarch line debuting at ICast, and immediately said the Core was being discontinued as it wouldn't sell given the price discount the new Chronarch line would represent compared to it. It makes sense to me, as would a replacement for the Core line further upmarket into the $400+ range."

So basically cores are going to be discontinued and so are the chronarch e's.. should be some good sales on those soon!

fishing user avatarDelaware Valley Tackle reply :

This will be interesting. Currently the Core is in a good competitive spot as a high end reel vs the Steeze, MGX etc.

fishing user avatarkickerfish1 reply :

I will be ordering a chronarch as soon as the reel is available!

Hmm? Guess we'll have to wait and see about this rumor. On the same TT site Bantam1 states otherwise.

Bantam1 quote: June 17 2013

" The Core is in place with no plans to change in the immediate future."

fishing user avatarrockchalk06 reply :

No offense, but the boys over at Shimano are reading this and thinking, "look at these yard birds" lol I gotta wonder if some of what is leaked is leaked "incorrectly" and "on purpose" just to get us all worked up and take the focus off of what's gonna come out!

fishing user avatarkickerfish1 reply :

I truly believe the core isn't going to be discontinued. The reel is Shimanos only competing market player against the Steeze in terms of performance and weight. The new Chronarch and Core should be able to co-exist together. Also at some point I hope they work some of the Chronarch E features into the current Curado to help spruce it up. This is all wishful thinkimg on my part, but one can dream.

Yeah the Chronarch moves to new frame, price and leaves the "E" frame without a name and a void in the $200 pricepoint. The 50 will be gone the CUG doesnt have one. Might they switch the Curado back to the "E" frame and call it an H?

Or do they drop the "E" frame and increase the price of the Curado G?

fishing user avatarwebertime reply :

I'm going to go out on a limb and say the Chronarch E stays at the ~$200 range and then they offer the Ci4 model at ~$275, like they did with the Stradic models.  Just guess on my part.

This makes the most sense to me. I'm in love with my CH50e, would eventually love another one (7.1:1 would be awesome, please), so if they keep the white aluminum lineup and add a black Ci4 series, that'd be fine by me.

Definitely think this will happen, but the 7.1.1 thing probably not.

So I MAY be wrong but you may want to check and see if the gearset from the CORE 50/51 would fit.  I seem to recall reading this somewhere.

fishing user avatarlmbfisherman reply :

Yeah thehooligan has stated it can be done by using the Core gearset.

fishing user avatarbass1980 reply :

I think Shimano should just admit their mistake by messing up their whole line up and correct what's wrong.

Paint the Chronarch back to green and get rid of the G. Seriously I would rather pay $200 for a updated Curado than pay $140 for a watered down Curado. People would accept rising material cost or whatever their reasons were. Few people have accepted the Chronarch and Curado shifting down a level.

It's the equivalent of McDonalds not wanting to charge more for their Big Mac due to inflation and they take away one patty and still call it a Big Mac G.

Not arguing with you and yes I'd prefer quality..but I think the G is a quality reel too.  I own  Curado Es and Gs.  I find no issues in performance between them.  Actually fish my Gs more than my Es, not because I like them more just happens that way, I actually think I can cast further..but I haven't really tested theory, I could really care less as it has performed for me just as well as any reel in my arsenal.  Not saying the Es are inferior just saying the G isn't as inferior as everyone overstates.

The curado g is trash.. I think they should stop making it completely and lower the price of the curado e down to 150 or so.

fishing user avatartomustang reply :

It seems like they keep going backward. Last time they dumbed down the citica and curados, they brought out even more sub $130 baitcasting reels. For a company that has a customer service center tell their cheaper customers to buy their higher end products they sure are being absent there.

Forget about shimano getting back on top, they need to get back in line and perhaps they can show us that in July.

I want to see Okuma or Pflueger take the spot of shimano.

I have been having a blast with my trash curados. Catching a lot of bass, trash bass I suppose. By the way, if anyone wants to throw theirs in the trash, my trash cans are available.

Do you know why they introduced the Curado G in the first place? Because they could no longer afford to sell the Curado E for less than $200, and they needed a new reel at the $150 price point. The Chronarch/Curado E is going to stay at $200.

Exactly my point. I'd rather buy a $200 Curado with minor upgrades than a less refine Curado for $160 because you know what, I just did. Bought a painted white Curado lol. Even though people knew the Chronarch E is really just the Curado E they still buy it.

Lineup should be Core, Chronarch CI4, Curado E.

How long before the average Joe is priced out of this Shimano game....I just got two Curado G's from JB and I can say they are great!! I don't know what the fuss is about....

Yeah, ditto that. I'd take another 50e or two of those white curados when the rush on the Core-onarchs hits :-). Easier to justify to my wife.  :tsk-tsk:  :threaten:  No, take that back. Won't be easier to justify.

Nice, I'm totally pumped about these reels.

fishing user avatarSmallmouth Hunter reply :

my mistake haha they aren't trash but they are a disappointment for me atleast. I haveused one before and they feel like they are going to fall apart at any moment. All the g series feels that way. The e series just feels stronger and nicer in general.

Oh and how much does it actually cost for the materials for an curado e (rough estimate)? Wouldn't it be around 50-60 dollars for the materials? I saw somewhere else that some reels only cost about $30 to make.
