New I bought 2 Fuegos from TW when they were closing them out at $144 and one Curado 51E from ohya an closeout at $98. Sure could kick myself for not stretching my funds to the limit by buying a couple more 51Es. I also took advantage of TW's closeout of the T3 1016 reels. I like using the T-wing and the brakes are fantastic on these reels. Used (and cheap) were some 1600C round reels and a couple older "gold" Carbonlites. Both outperform their price by a wide margin.
In rods one of my best buys was a Rainshadow RX7. Love this rod. Managed to pick up a couple Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth casting rods the first year they came out for $71 shipped. Another case of wishing I bought at least 2 of each model. ORdered a ML Tatula rod over the weekend from Walmart that ran just over $94 with tax. I expect this rod to be a favorite in its power range based on how much I like the first Tatula rod I bought.
Almost forgot the new Quantum 6'10" HF Superlite and Tour Edition. Not a lot of use for a Heavy rod in my area, but I sure like these rods, and the price was fantastic.
Well two of my most recent scores are a 1000fj stradic nib for $100 and 2 rx7 blanks for $23 each. I figure it will cost me another 35-40 in components to build them so they should come out to about $60 each. Cha Ching
Happened to purchase a par of Quantum Kenetics for $50 a piece. Can't beat a mark down of over 50% off.
Got two Daiwa spinning rods last year; a TD-X 6'10" ML and a Steez 7' ML. Paid $200 for the pair.
Through some trades with American Legacy Fishing. I walked out the door with a brand new G Loomis NRX rod,
and a Shimano Core 100 MG7..... Along with some other assorted tackle, hat and a G Loomis hoodie.
$160.00 out of pocket.

Purchased 4 NIB TDZs for $230 ea, a TD Red Airy Pixy for $240, 3 Scorpion NIB 1000 Mg for $190 ea., 2 TD Alphas Type F for also 190 ea. Those are some of the more memorable ones.
Hmm, a while back I picked up a Daiwa Td Advantage hsta nib for 90 bucks. Recently a nib left handed Fuego for 115 bucks. Sold em both of course.
Dx 703 spinning for 200, stradic ci4 2500 for $125, alphas type r for $160. 2 Chronarch d's for 185. Dx mike long jig rod for $180 was one of the best deals I ever got.

Wow! That's a heck of a dickerin' right there, nice work!! Mind if I asked what the trade was? I love a good wheel & deal. Nothing like the barter system!

They take used rods and reels in trade. You fill out an online form listing what you have to trade. You rate your stuff based on criteria they give you. They are very generous if your stuff is in good shape. I listed my stuff as excellent condition and it wasn't disputed. I had several rods and reels that I had acquired while working at BPS. They were just gathering dust. One thing, they only take name brand tackle. Can't trade anything store branded, such as BPS Pro Qualifier, Extreme, or anything like that.

I got a used Falcon Expert 7' Medium for $75. I believe this length sold for $290. Thought it was the deal of the century. Rod has fished okay so far, but looks like it was around during the Civil War.
I picked up a used Aetos in like new condition at a fair price, but it wasn't anywhere near the deal you got. Great buy.

Nice! Got a used Alphas F in pretty good cosmetic condition for $175. Drag had been upgraded by seller. Didn't use it much before it locked up. Yoke spring had come off. Wound up putting another $54 in parts in it. Sometimes a good deal isn't as good as you thought it was. However, it is a sweet reel now after a full tune and A7 ceramic hybrid bearings.

2 St. Croix LTB's from their bargain room for $115 apiece.
High end gear from members in our Flea Market. Perhaps the best
example was a purchase from a member who had won two Shimano
Stella at a local tournament. I ended up buying NIB Stella 1000FA and
a 2500FB for $600, $300 each.

not a buy exactly, but i bought two daiwa reels (lexa and exceler) here in the flea market (with upgraded bearings) for a solid price. they were nice reels, but then a trade came along that allowed me to trade them both for 2 nearly new curado 51e's. HAPPY CAMPER for sure!
BPS Extreme baitcasters and spinning rods at the January sale for $80 each.
Great rods for fun fishing.
Bought a GLoomis Topwater Rod brand new at my local store for $105 out the door (clearance and coupons).
well I got a couple of tournament pro's brand new for $150, team lews lite for $180. As for rods, I only have five, but I just bought 2 St Croix Avid X's (7'4 casting and 7'0 M spinning) on *** during their black Friday sale that I got for $165. Can't wait to get them in the mail
Shimano Sedona 1000 for $40 turned out to be a great little reel. Powell max for $100 was an excellent deal as well. Ended up being one of my favorite rods! I even got an abu vengeance for $15 and a vendetta for $60 at Walmart. Just couldn't pass em up at those prices!

Curado 51e's 99$ a piece
I never find those kind of deals at my local DSG. I did pick up a Curado 51E for $98 when ohya closed them out. Sure wish I could have gotten 3 or 4 more.
Last year was my first year jumping into baitcasting and the timing couldnt have been better I was deploying right around the holidays so I had money to spare and I scored two dobyns champ rods at 30% off from the hook up tackle, sale had ended the day before on thanksgiving and I was calling in to see what there (prices so low you have to call) black firday sale, asked the guy about the rods and he said sale ended yesterday but Ill give it to you anyway, great costomer service at the hook up. Around a month latter I scored 2 Lew's TP's for $150 a piece, all in all I thought I did pretty good and have super pleased with my choices for gear.
My wife broke the last 6 inches off my Shimano Clarus....which I really liked.
I didn't want to spend too much on what at the time was my backup spinning rig, so I bought a used Gen 1 Shimano Compre......now it's hands-down my favorite spinning rod. I put a Stradic FJ on it and I'll often pick that one up before any of my other higher-end rigs. The balance and comfort is perfect.
Not necessarily a buy.. But my buddy couldn't get the hang of using a casting reel, so he gave me a Lew's Speed Spool and a Veritas Rod. The Lew's now have me hooked, and I didn't like the foam grips on the rod, so I sold it for $50. Turned out pretty well I'd say. Also, my used Lew's have been good buys too.
My most recent "best buys" have been NIB Daiwa Excelers off fleabay from $55-$68 with free shipping and no tax. They retail for $100, so I think it's a decent deal LOL.
Used:
$50 avids
$75 elite

New:
$128 chronarch 151hg
$260 metinum 100hg

$100 curados
$50 premier & mojos
Those are most of the huge deals I've found.
2 St Croix Legend Elites $126
St Croix LTB $125
St Croix LTB $80
2 St Croix Legend Extremes $210
St Croix LTB swim bait rod w/Curado 201D $125
Steez reel $200
Powell Max for $120, and my Powell Endurance that i just bought tonight from TWH for $110
Got a pretty much brand new zillion on ebay for 160.
Stocked up on Shimano Sahara's a couple years ago when they came out with the new model. I bought 5 of them from cabelas and gander mountain at $45 a piece, gave one to my dad along with a rod for xmas present. Some of the deals on the flea market have been amazing for me. Got a Lews Tournament MG and Speed Spool almost brand new for $150.

Great find. Congratulations. Best $160 you ever spent.
2 years ago i found a couple Falcon Bucoo Microguide rods for $30 at Academy. i bought both of them, kept one and sold the other one for full retail here in Mexico where i live ($130 at that time). unfortunately they didnt have more, i would have bought 2 or 3 more to sell here.
i was at academy for the first time and picked up 2 of the tournament choice premier edition rods for $20 each... ive since used them and wish i'd bought all they had left.... one of the best looking and feeling rods i've used and only $20...
When I was fishing for my college, we got a discount from Daiwa and I got a TD Advantage Supertuned Baitcaster for around $100. Wish I would have gotten a few more. Its an unbelieveable reel.
I got a daiwa tdz 103h, daiwa capricorn 2000 (the good silver one, not the dicks exclusive) an okuma vs20, and a daiwa minispin off of eBay for $50. I could not believe it when that auction ended haha I just knew that someone was gonna out bid me at the last second, but somehow they didnt. That was my best deal, but I bought a used lews tournament pro off of there for $50 also. This spring i bought a brand new lews lazer speed spool combo from dsg for $42
I was very impressed by My diawa tatula type R!
It's a workhorse, no problems at all...
Pflueger Supreme XT 9230 from cabelas for $89 yesterday. When I ordered it there were only 12 left, at least that's what the confirmation email told me, and now you can't even find them on their website. Great deal!!!!
Brand new shimano crucial 7'2 mhxf (blk with eva grips) $65 after tax from dicks sporting goods
Years back when I decided to have rods custom made instead of buying stock rods , you get exactly what you want and don't have to compromise !!! What can be better than that ??? !!!!
In stores daiwa lexas 42$ each and rods 3 brent chapmans 9.98$ each.yards sales 1 to 10 bucks for abus and a few falcons, croixs for less then 20 .list goes on im guessing i have only paid retail for a handful of rods or reels in my lifetime.
A couple of years ago the local bait store was getting rid of their old inventory. I picked up a new Revo-S for $50.
Age has taught me that when I wanted & paid the asking prices for top names I was disappointed MANY TIMES for any reason. I expected perfect items.
Now I realize that a rod from Sports Authority can be a spectacular buy !!.. Works perfect for years. Everyday. All summer. I am retired. At 1 / 10 the price LOVE the very good low cost rods & reels.
Cheap can ONLY get better & better each day
Most expensive ? Can only pee me off everytime I look at it if it has any problem.
Bought Pflueger Summit from Cabela's for 49.99 with no shipping and usually goes for 149.99 with shipping. Got it about a month ago and it's a very impressive baitcaster. Has:
•Nine shielded stainless steel bearings for smooth performance
• Six-pin adjustable centrifugal brake system
• Smooth carbon-fiber drag system with 26 inches line recovery per handle turn.

Gotta agree. A great reel for the money. Although I got mine for just under $131 it still isn't my best buy as I got on my Curado 51E for $98 shipped on closeout. Hot dog !!
Man. Lots of great deals. Too many to comment on. Only wish I could be as lucky as some of you guys were. Congratulations to all of you for the great finds. This has been a fun thread to read through. Always nice to see when someone makes out like a bandit.........................without needing a gun.
I bought a new quantum exo 100hpt for $75 and just picked up a shimano clarus for $50. Now I'm just waiting on ups and usps to bring them. Last track on my exo was in Oklahoma on Dec 20, it's now the 24th and hasn't updated since. Gotta love the usps priority mail. Good thing it wasn't someone's Christmas present

Not as nice as a lot of y'all's buys but I've gotten:
•First Gen. Abu Garcia Orra SX 7.1:1 - On clearance for $60
•First Gen. Abu Garcia Orra SX 6.4:1 - Won in a bet. I had to get up and sing "Long Haired Country Boy" along with the entertainer at El Meson in front of the whole restraunt.
•X2 H2O Xpress Ethos for $30
•X2 H2O Xpress Mettles for $20
•Pflueger Supereme MGX30 for $60
•Abu Garcia Veritas 2.0 the second week they came out for $80
•Daiwa T3B for $110
and yesterday I bought an older silver model Daiwa Exceler 7.1:1 on clearance for $40.
A couple of months ago I walked into a pawn shop and found a brand new condition 7'11" Irod "Fred's Crank Launcher" model that retails for $150.00, and on it was a like new Shimano curado 200G7. The price tag on it said $89.99. Once I had it in my hands I knew I was not putting it back. So I walked up to cashier and asked her if she would take all the cash I had in my wallet at the time which was 3- $20.00 bills. $60.00 cash even. She looked into her computer and said that she could still make her margin with the $60.00 and she was motivated to sell it and she let me have it for the $60.00 I had on me.
So I turned around and sold the Shimano 200G7 on ebay for $90.00 in a buy now offer.
In the end, I wound with a nice $150.00 Irod for FREE plus an extra $30.00 cash in my pocket.
I thought I was doing pretty good with that one.
I walked into a sporting goods store in Maine and came out with:
GLoomis NRX 901S JWR G $179
GLoomis GLX 902S $159
GLoomis GL2 852C $110
St. Croix Legend Tournament TBC68MXF $150
Shimano Compre 7'6" medium fast $60
