The title says it all. for a 12 yr old who only gets $10 a week for the money which company should I invest in? My friend says Abu Garcia cause they will sponsor you EZier and the Citica sucks and the Curado is ok in the long run.
And my friend uses Chronarchs and Cores w/ Cumaras
It would be tough for someone as young as you to get sponsored by any of the big reel companies, so I wouldn't let that influence your decision. Either a Citica or a Revo S would be a great choice. Most people who actually own a Citica would say that it's a good reel, and the same could be said for the Revo S. It all comes down to which feels better to you.

From my experience, Shimano makes a better quality product. Plus you can't beat the warranty. Abu Garcia is finally starting to put out some newer, better quality rods. The Revo series of reels have always been regarded as a very solid reel. Well priced and very easy to use. So who knows what they may come out with soon.
Thats gotta be the first time I've heard somebody say the Citica "sucks" though. I don't use one, but I've heard nothing but good things about them.
QuoteThats gotta be the first time I've heard somebody say the Citica "sucks" though.
x2.
i love my citica so much , i bought two. ive NEVER had any issues with either of mine.
with that money , i would shop around on ebay and pick up a used citica D if i were set on a baitcaster. otherwise , i would look into a spinning rig.
Love my Citica 200e, compared to my Revo S I prefer the Citica easily. I also have a Citica 200d, works great my only complaints are the size and weight of it.
Well the point of sponsors at my age is to save money by getting discounts. I know 3 or 4 ppl that are sponsored and they are like 13. And I think I want to go with Abu Garcia cause I can get them wholesale and get there stuff really cheap like the Premier I can get for $180 brand new. But what about rods, if I were to stick with one company should I go with Abu? or someone else
I would go with Shimano. They have quality product backed by quality customer service.

Is your friend as young as you are ?
yea he owns 12 combos atleast $300 and he isnt some rich spoiled kid
Quoteyea he owns 12 combos atleast $300 and he isnt some rich spoiled kid

I'll mail you some. It's quite delicious.
I think it's great that you're focused on your future. I hope the sponsorships come through for you, and that you're able to make a go of it. I wish I'd had that much direction when I was 12!
I own several Shimano's, including Curado 200E7, Core 50mg7 and Calais DC. I also own some Abu, Revo S (last years model, not good) and Premier (this years model). Personally, I'd go Abu for the reels. The Premier's are just great, great reels, especially for the price. I'd put them ahead of my core for performance, smoothness, drag power and versatility. They do weigh slightly more, but I don't notice the difference. The Curado's are good reels for the money, but nothing special. Not overly smooth, but they do get the job done.
I've never used Abu rods, and only one Shimano rod. So can't really compare those for you. Maybe try to get a sponsorship from Loomis, too? :-?
I bought Shimano when they were first introduced in America, haven't looked back & haven't been disappointed
Fish Daiwa and never look back. get you a Daiwa SOL thats in mint condition on ebay for a good price and it will give you all you want and then some. or even better save up a little more and find you a good deal on a TD-Z 103 and you will be in love!
I think ill go with abu, get the revo s and upgrade from there. I may switch
To shimamo later but right now my dad has all vendettas and a SX so we will both be Abu ppl and we may even start a team he says cause he owns a store we will have a sponsor. Thx for everyones input

Dad's always right.
Daiwa.....or shimano
cant your father, who wholesales fishing gear, tell you the ins and outs of the gear he sells?
also, again, a popularity contest is never a good way to buy gear.
He actually doesnt sell it yet he can just get it. He doesnt wanna stock up until like January so he is in time for Spring. And he doesnt buy expensive gear.
QuoteDaiwa.....or shimano
Haven't you heard? Orvil Reddenbacher is coming out with his own line of rods.
QuoteWhat I wouldn't do for some popcorn...
That litterally madee laugh

Trust me, alot of stuff gets bought and sold when there's ice out....well, maybe not in a retail setting
Butter and salt?
8-)

If you are only looking for sponsorships because you want some sweet deals on gear then you are in for a wild ride! What sponsors really want form you is to promote their product in a professional manner.
As for the reels i choose niether because I would go with BPS for less expensive baitcasters becuase of the Pro Q's. I would also go with quantum too because of their accurist reels which are great. You can find the old accurist on ebay for as low as $30 new.
Shouldn't you be concentrating on becoming a better fisherman instead of worrying about sponsorships ?
No offense, but you're one of a million.
I'm off to the concession stand for some popcorn. Anybody want anything ? Junior Mints ? Milk Duds ?
Sponsorship isnt a big deal to me. I just want to know what company will pay off in the long run. I think Abu is good cause they have great reels, and good rods and I can get them wholesale. For now im going with Abu
Im just second guessin my decision, cause everyone says the citicas are amazing.
Ok this is one of my last questions, do you think I should stick with a brand or just buy reels? What do you do and why should I do it?
Buy whatever you feel will work the best for "YOU." Opinions are like...well, you know where that saying goes.
A couple of days ago I started a tread about the revo sx vs. the stx. Well, I ended up buying a citica. I already have a curado, chronarch and a core. While the citica is the least of these 4 reels it is certainly no slouch. I used it for the first time today and was very impressed.
As far as the whole sponsorship thing, I'm clueless. However, I am still intriged by the Abu Revo's and will probably get one someday.
What I can say for sure is, for $, the citica E is a heck of a reel. Very good. I'm a die hard shimano guy because of my experiences with them. That being said, I wouldn't be afraid to venture out and try something though.
Like others have posted I'm sure either choice wouldn't be a bad one.
Ok is the Quantum Reax anygood compared to the Revo or Citica?
QuoteOk is the Quantum Reax anygood compared to the Revo or Citica?
I am telling you thatt you should get the 08 Quantum Accurist if you want a quantum http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-QUANTUM-ACCURIST-PT-AC501PT-REEL-NIB-Great-Reel-/260639555956?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3caf540174
Dang thats cheap!!!!! I may consider that
Yes it is the PT version.

Jujy Beans please!
O sorry I was modifying it when u posted but that is really cheap I may consider that, and what about the Reax? Im gettin a white rod so a white reel would look awesome
If you are going to get a Quantum then you need to get a reel from the PT series if you want a quality reel that is going to last you a while.

Ok the Reax is in the PT family, is it anygood?
And are there any other white reels out there?

I've been fishing Shimano baitcasters since I was about 10 yrs old..I'm 40 now..so what does that tell ya
He's 12 though.
Ok as of now im not gonna buy only one brand, first I will probably buy a Citica or a Accurist. Now I want to know if the reax is anygood and if there is any other white reels out there

The good news is, in a few years (or months) you won't care about this decision at all, so it is a win-win. Get whatever you like. Brand doesn't matter. Even guys who have sponsors (as long as they have some character) fish what they like. If you like it and it is within reach, fish it. If you don't, don't; that is the only thing on which you should base your decision. If you buy something you aren't sure you like because someone else says you should, you will be disappointed in the long run.
Raisinets, please.
U have a very good point and SNICKERS w/ a Orville Redenbacher series Rod with a Hersheys reel
I'll take a box of duds and large popcorn and have em throw some extra butter on there.
T
I gave Abu a sympathy vote. I am more familiar with them.
I honestly have found qualities I liked and didn't like in every brand of reel I have ever used. I don't think I will ever be loyal to one brand.
Can someonE please tell me if there is any white reels, csuse It would look awesome on my white rod
Stradic 2500FH
Shame on us.
Wow kust baught a Quantum Response on a Vendetta for $35 from my dad
Daiwa, they don't have Ike anymore so you could become their new posterboy. Should be real easy to land a sponsorship now. ;D
Bud Light and Peanuts please.
Yea cause IKE went to Abu, So do yall think I should get a Accurist PT for $65, Citica for $85? Or is it all my preference
Or the Kinetic PT
Honestly dude, it sounds like you have no bleepin idea what you want. I think you're more concerned with having a matching rod and reel than anything else.

this.
take a BPS/cabelas magazine , close your eyes and randomly pick a page in the reel section. point to a reel and there you have it.
It sux cause ur right, I dont know what I want and I did the random magazine thing and I came uo with a Daiwa Procaster lol, so thx everyone ill figure this out by my self
When does school start ? This kid has got too much time on his hands.

Why don't you spend your free time learning what a sentence is! Why not through in some correct spelling and punctuation too!
Geez....
Good night Irene.
