2020 Rod line up 2024

fishing user avatarRedbeard.bassin reply :

Favorite Big Sexy 7' 2" MH MF paired with a Shimano Curado K (Spinner bait/Chatter Bait)

Favorite Phantom 7' MH F Paired with a Shaimano Citica (Small-Medium Swimbaits)

Lew's TP-1 Black 7' M F Paired with a Shimano NASCI (Spinning set-up)

Dobyns Fury 7' MH MF Paired with a Shimano Casitas (Crank/Jerk/Lipless)

St Croix Bass X 7' 1" MH F Paired with a Shimano Curado K (Jig/Texas Rig)

Bass Pro Johnny Morris 7' 4" MH F Paired with a Shimano Citica 201E (Large Swimbaits/Frog/Other big rod needs hehe)

I bank fish usually, but sometimes I will rent a boat from my 3 local parks and go out on those and dominate. I am from Cincinnati, Ohio.

What are your set-ups? Yes. I am a huge Shimano fan!

fishing user avatarMN Fisher reply :

Daiwa Aird-X 7' Heavy/Fast with a Diawa Fuego CT-XS (8.1)

Diawa Aird-X 7' Medium-Heavy/Fast with a Pflueger Supreme (7.1)

Dobyns Fury 7' Medium-Heavy/Mod with a Diawa Fuego CT-H (6.3)

Diawa Aird-X 6'6 Medium/Fast with a Pflueger President (7.3)

Diawa Aird-X 6'6 Medium/Fast with a Pflueger Trion-35

Dobyns Fury 7' Medium-Light/Fast with a Pflueger Trion-30

Diawa Spinmatic 6'6 Ultra-Light/Fast with a Pflueger President-25

Mitchell Avocet 6'6 Medium-Light/Fast with a Mitchell Avocet RZ-2000

I have a modified Sun Dolphin Scout-SS canoe. Pretty much stick to two of the bays on Lake Minnetonka but occasionally hit one of the smaller lakes in the area not part of the Minnetonka chain. I also bank-fish for panfish occasionally - the Avocet rig stays in the truck for those times.

As you can tell, I'm a Diawa/Pflueger fan - first year with the Dobyns rods...may update the Aird-X's to those next year.

I would look into a 6' 10" MH for pitching. I have a few. just not my main. I use the 6' 10" for bed fishing. Shorter so it's more accurate and easier to control.

And casting & and spinning reels by Diawa, Shimano, Quantum, Pflueger & ABU Garcia.

Most likely stick with the Tournament MP for the two new casting rods, and another Diawa Legalis for the spinning rod

How does the Lew's MP compare with the MB? I really like the MB. I wanted the Legalis, but found the Revros LT for a great price.

Only my Trion-35 is from FFO - rest of my reels are from Amazon except the Pres-25 which was a gift from a member here. Rods are a mix of Amazon, TW and AL

How does the Lew's MP compare with the MB? I really like the MB. I wanted the Legalis, but found the Revros LT for a great price.

The MP feels a little smoother.  I haven't fished it much, but the little bit I did get to use it.  Wow is all I can say.  I will most likely be buying two more for the new rods on the way.

1. Get another Tatula 150, 20lb fluro on the MH.

2. Tatula Elite on the Heavy, 20F on MH.

3. Tatula Elite Pitch and Flip on MH 20lb F, Tatula 150 on Heavy.

4. Any of the above but put 30/40lb braid on the 7'6" MH, allowing me to fish weeds with swim jig/chatterbait and throw the whopper plopper on this rod. Would sacrifice abrasion resistance in wood and rocks.

I really like my 7'6 envy for frogs, but expensive for a frog rod and I agree. The expride is equal too. My 7'3xh expride is unbelievably light. The envy locking nut annoys me but overall that rod had a great action for frogs and buzz baits.

Really nice.  I use it for trout.  The drag is really nice, those HT100 washers are nice and smooth.  I'd really like to get a bigger size for another rod I have lying around.  I have one of the older 9' Guide Series light powered rods from Gander Mountain.  Back then, Fenwick made that rod for them, the action is great and it's perfect for throwing light baits.  It's a moderate fast action steelhead rod, but I use it wading the Thumb on Huron smallmouth fishing.  It'll cast a 1/4oz tube jig a mile, that comes in handy fishing the shallows of Huron for spring smallies.

Yes, I really like that they included the HT100 drag washers in the Fierce III, apparently it is basically a Battle II now so I will be interested to see what the Battle III is going to offer. Heck, even the Pursuit III (which is a nice little reel for the money, btw) has the HT100 washers in there now so it looks like Penn is almost totally off of felt except the new Wrath reels. Also, I polished the metal washers in my Fierce II and I noticed a distinct drag smoothness increase. Even more than just doing the carbontex upgrade. Definitely worth doing for light line applications.

I have a 7' heavy action Gander rod that I really like, reminds me of an older Fenwick HMG, maybe they built that one too. Be sad when that one gets retired because there aren't any more of them.

I don’t mind the rod, it balances well, feels pretty good and loads of power. I use it for Carolina rigs, weighted t-rigs, whopper ploppers. I just feel like for the money there’s better rods and want to try others.

Berkley Lightning 6’ MLF - Penn 430SS

Fenwick River Runner 7'2" L - Daiwa-S 1500CU

Fenwick Elite Tech 7' MF - Daiwa TD Sol 2500

Rest can vary, but I don't switch around much and don't have current pairings listed.  Reels from Abu, BPS, Daiwa, Lew's, Okuma, Pflueger, Pinnacle, 13 Fishing, Shimano.  Rods from 13 Fishing, Abu, Airrus, ALX, Ark, Batson, Berkley, Cabela's, Daiwa, Dobyns, Falcon, Fenwick, Field & Stream, Hammer, iRod, Lew's, Major Craft, Megabass, Olympic, Okuma, Phenix, Powell, Quantum, Shimano, St. Croix and Witch Doctor.

Looks like a lot of rods, but many only have one sample.  Combined baitcast and spinning rods and reels total less than 100 so I am a long ways from having what a lot of guys store in their boat, garage, man cave, etc.  :smile1:

I did have. My desktop went down with the black screen of death and then a couple of months later my laptop did the same. I'm now using my old IPhone 3. It's small and slow. It's awful.

Sorry to hear that.  I've got a lot of stuff saved on an old desktop computer.  Don't know if I want to spend the money necessary to get it running so I can copy the files elsewhere.

I hear ya. I don't want to spend the money on a new computer/laptop. New fishing gear... yes. Maybe a tablet.

the Avocet rig stays in the truck for those times.

Well, this is changing. I'm actually pulling a couple rigs out of 'retirement'.

Pflueger 640 - did maintenance on it this morning and it's still as smooth as almost-new.

Going to mount that on a Diawa 1312 - 6'6" Medium-Light/Fast 2piece...this thing is almost as old as the 640, but only needed a little cleanup and a coat of UB-40 on the handle.

Cardinal 562 - that's next in line for the maintenance.

Haven't decided between the 6'0" M/F 2pc Ugly Stick or the 6'0" L/M 2pc Berkley Enforcer

In any case, the Avocet is re-designated for the canoe arsenal - giving me 9 rigs there.

The 640 and 562 are going to be my shore-fishing rigs.

For a guy who only had 3 rigs three years ago - now I'll have 11 rigs...where will it end?
