Its christmas season sell me on a sub $200 shimano reel that I can do anything with. Probably picking up a new 7ftmh rod for a secondary jig rod.
What! Sell you on it. Don't you know it's the greatest reel ever made. It's assembled in japan by Budah himself.
On a serious note though. They've been around for a long time and have a huge fan base. They've proven themselves as a quality reel but I do a also feel there's a bit too much hype around some of their offerings. That's my .02

I dont think i can buy a reel and not be happy with it but still.
Saros, Stradic FJ, or a clearance Stradic Ci4 (if there are still any out there). They all have X Ship. You would not be disappointed with either one of these, just depends on how close you want to get to $200. I only use shimano for spinning reels, simply because I haven't found a brand of reels that I like better. Personally I dont have the money to fish the higher end reels so I stick to the saharas which have been great for me.
Calcutta 100B for a baitcaster on a MH rod. It's a quality reel. It's not too fast or too slow.
The place where I do most of my shopping has them for $199.99 to your door.
Curado 200G
http://fish.shimano.com/publish/content/global_fish/en/us/index/products/reels/low_profile_baitcasting/Curado_E.html
$151.14 at Valley Sports
http://www.beatthebigboxboys.com/store-products-CU200G5-Shimano-Curado_1097924718.html
I'd say the Chronarch 200E7 or E6. I know it lists for $200 but I'm sure you can easily get it for less this time of year.
For some reason I thought you meant spinning, sorry about that.

Have 2, on G Loomis GL3 MH rods, and they are great. Bought them at the end of my fishing season, and used them about 4 times. Can't wait to get back at em'. Probably bought mine, the same place you bought yours. I am close enough that anything I order arrives the next day. Gotta love that!

The reels sell themselves. If you buy one you will end up with a whole closet full of them. One of the best parts of fishing Shimano is that you can return them for service for like $27 and they come back just like new mechanically. My local Shimano service center has never repaired reels for me as well as the factory does.

Gander Mountain has $20 off $100 spent so you could get Cronarch $180 & free shipping.
OR
They have $50 off $250 spent so you get a Cronarch at $199.99 and some line like--- 14# Sunline Super FC Sniper Line, 660-yd. $55 and that gets you the $50 off so like getting the 660yd spool for $5
If 14# line is good for your type of jig fishing though or anything that puts you at touch over $250
I'd stick with the E-series and avoid the Curado and Citica G. They're decent reels, but the quality is noticeably worse than with the E-series. There are more rough edges, the finishes aren't as well done, the side plate fits on worse, etc.; they're still very serviceable workhorse reels, but the quality has been downgraded. Personally, I'd go with a used Citica E before I'd buy either a Curado or Citica G.
Shimano, they are pretty good. Buy one.................or not, I really don't care.
at under 200 get a citica G or E and put boca 7's on the spool or the hawgtech bearings if they fit, pretty decent set up for less than 170.00

You might have deep seated self-esteem issues if you have to be "sold" on getting a Shimano reel. Once you touch a Calcutta 200 TEGT or a Calais, or a Core or any of the mid-level to higher end Shimano bait casting reels, it will speak to you and you won't want to fish with any other reel. I presume that applies to the lower end Shimano reels as well, but I don't have any so I can't speak to that.
The hard part comes when you have an assortment of Shimano reels, some on jig rods, some on crank rods, some on spinnerbait rods, and they are all talking to you - at once - saying "put me in, coach". .. … That will test your decision making abilities.

I've owned 4 Shimano's (2 Citica G's, 1 Curado G and 1 Curado 51E). They're definitely quality reels, including the G series. Though, as stated already, I would stick with the E series if possible. I can maybe count the number of negative reviews I've seen on Shimano reels in your price range on one hand. While some prefer other brands (me included), I don't think you can go wrong with a Citica on up.
Curado or chronarch e series are hard to beat i like the 200's for casting and line capacity but the 50 size is great forflipping and pitching and palms better all at or under 200
Just gettin into the baitcasters I bought my first one this year, a Citica 201E and LOVE it.... My buddy got the G and there is a def difference in the two( I like mine better lol) I was lucky enough to get it at a steal as it was the last E they had left and they were clearing out for the new shipments, $93 out the door...
I don't think you can by a better spinning reel for twice the money over a Shimano,,,,when it comes to baitcasting reels there a couple I find better for 1/2 the price. If you want a good Shimano in that price range, drop under $150.00 on a Stradic in whichever size suites your style of fishing,,,,,and you will never find a better spinning reel new near that price.
Chronarc 200e7 or Ci4?? Opinions please! I own all revo's from the S to the mgX but I'm thinking about a Ci4. What do you think??
Scorpion 1000xt and never look back:-)

I'd rather talk you into a Daiwa!
My personal favorite Shimano is the Curado 100d, although the E series reels are great too. I don't own any of the higher end Shimano's though, if I'm going to spend over $200 on a reel it's going to be a Daiwa.
How do you feel about the zillion then

sub 200 /w sales if you can find them would be the chronarch 200e6 for a "do it all reel".
Chronarch 50E and call it a day. I love mine so much that I won't go lower in the Shimano Baitcast reel lineup. If I get another Shimano reel it'll be another 50 series or stepping it up to a Core or Metanium.
Wait till this spring when the new curado is released and the "old" chronarchs go on sale for 50% off at TW and probably Academy. I am planning on buying 3 or 4 51e's
Nooo he said there were already threads on the subject I asked about so I quoted what he said and asked him to help me out with where theyvwere
Could sell you on older model shimano. What they have now not as good as they use to be. Don't get me wrong but I
think there are other companies that make a better reel for this money.
I think shimano spinning reels are the best made but baitcasters are not what they use to be in the $200 range. The
last good Shimano reels I owned was the Chronarch Batman 100.I had 30 of them . When I looked to up grade to newer
reels
Shimano I could not buy, not what they use to be. I bough 1 Lew's Tournament Pro fell in love with it now only use
Lew's. You can get one new with free shipping on eBay for around $150.I now own 25 of them. I did not want to leave
Shimano but for me they are not the reel they use to be.
How about this ? I have a Shimano Bantam B-Mag 1000 that dates from the late 80's and I still fish with it. That reel made me purchase my first Curado ( 200B ), which btw, is around a decade and a half old and still performs like out of the box.
That´s why you should purchase Shimano.

They won't get rid of the E series Chronarchs.

The new curado's are supposed to be priced at around 190.. They aren't going to have 2 reel priced within $10 of eachother.

everything about the "new curados" is hearsay and nothing is confirmed. i assume you got this info from the TT page. refer to bantams post on page 8. I really would find it hard to believe that they would ditch the current chronarch for a "replacement" when the ci4 just came out. and there's nothing wrong /w the chronarch as it is. adding a 7:1 in the 50 size would be something i could see as lots of people want that but dont want to pay almost double for the core. realistically I could see them revamping the curado line in the tatula price range kind of like how daiwa has the tatula at 150/type r at 200. IF for some silly reason the chronarch is discontinued, they will probably all be gone in 2 days time from TW at 50% off.....maybe even faster.

Go to tt "new curado?" thread.
Look at the post on page 3. A member named "john puckett" says that there is supposedly a new curado coming out at this next classic show in 2014. He then goes on to say on the next page that it will not re-use any parts and that it will be completely new.
Then look at Bantam1's post a bit farther down on page 4.
He says "You need to tell me who your source is...".
Why would he say this if the info had not been true or somewhat accurate. Out of all of the speculating that goes on over at TT and on that thread, WHY would he comment on that specific comment? It is obvious that is somewhat accurate.
I am guessing that there will be a new reel coming out this spring classic show, but I don't know if it will be a curado or new chronarch or what. I don't think it will be a high end reel because Shimano USA has just released the Antares and Metanium. It will probably be lower end than the CI4+ because that was just released as well and leads me to think that they would start to concentrate a bit more on the lower end stuff. The curado g is very unpopular compared to the b, d, and e series, so I think that their best move would be to revamp that. It sounds to me like that's what they are thinking about doing too.

because the thread is made in the shimano product support forum. I would guess 80% of the posts in that subforum are his. he usually responds to each and every post in the thread and is pretty active in most, if not all, "new XXX shimano reel threads". Really the only person in the thread that can give you any certainty is bantam.
I wouldn't guarantee but I would venture to assume there probably will be some sort of "new curado". Getting rid of the current chronarch E series would just be stupid with such a proven design. they have done dumber things though so who knows. if they did though...its hard to say what they can really do in that price range. kind of a weird situation if they are going to be in that chronarch price range. buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut those chronarchs will sell out so fast. can't wait if true.

I'm only new to the Shimano line, but in every past reel they have made that was a proven design, they have discontinued it. I really see the E series being done way with very soon. My only reason for that comment is their history has a way of repeating itsself.
I really hope they dont in all honesty.

I know what you mean. I guess they did get rid the the D series really quick but the E is such a solid platform. If they can improve on it in that price range though, it would be a sweet deal and that current line up will get discounted like crazy. Hope they sell the ch51s for 99$ like they did the curado51s.

I remember seeing the CU50's for 75 at our local BP marked down too. I was on my Abu kick then and missed out. I have two now that look like new and get used a bunch.
Getting rid of a proven reel.. hmmm that sounds familiar.
They got rid of the curado b series which was probably the most popular series out of all of them. They got rid of the Calcutta TE which was considered by many to be one of the best round reels.
I agree, that was why I switched, seems they have gotten into a habit of instead of raising the price of a reel model, they cheapen it up and sell the less desirable reel for the same money. Much like food producers do, same size container, with less in it, for the same price it used to sell for when you got more????? Sales tactic that is being used to sell all kinds of product today, when will the consumer say NO MORE,,,,,pin not intended!
citica e
or
curado g
they are solid do everything reels.
I cast weightless worms on my citica e and frogs on a separate citica e. Both situations they perform.
I like my abu winch a lot. It is super smooth but doesn't cast as nicely as my shimanos. Especially when weightless.

Shimano update their reels every few years instead of just coming out different versions of the same reel ala TDZ/Zillion platform. 2014 its going to be an updated Stella freshwater and there are rumors of a new Curado/Scorpion replacement coming soon. Im going to bet the top of the line Calcutta/Conquest is going to be updated soon.
I am 90% sure that the curado will have a replacement.. I just have a good feeling about it.
That new stella coming out next year looks really nice.
The new stella is supposed to look very similar to the current SW stella, at least the machining on the spool.
i was referring to the color scheme. it's different than the current model. looks sharp.

I honestly think the line is being revamped. I think the Chronarch E series will be modified slightly to become the new Curado which I would be fine with.

According to the same guy who leaked the other stuff, it will use a completely new frame and all new parts. I don't think it will be all too similar to the chrony e. I hope it has ci4+ sideplates or some other cool feature from a higher end reel (like daiwa has done with the tatula).

How about just taking the Chronarch E and painting it green and incorporating X-ship? I would pay for that as I think most of us would.
I personally want to see something new this time around.
x-ship would be a nice feature to see though..
x-ship is probably the one thing you can guarantee will be on all of it's mid reels+ from now on.

I would love to see that.
Assuming the new curado will use x-ship, I wonder if the micro gears from the Metanium or Antares will fit it...?
That would be a sweet upgrade.
I work on curado 200's all the time. I buy some used and they always feel great. I open them up and some are really worked hard. They clean up great and I could probably put the same parts back in but I don't. I super tune and polish. Put gears in them and they are like new. They just don't look it. That kind of quality is hard to find these days. Most people just go buy new ones but the E series is very bullit proof. I work on other reels also and there similarities but most of the reels other than shimano have something wrong with them. Quality stuff
