Best Fluorocarbon For The Money? 2024

fishing user avatarHOG727 reply :

Baitcast 15-20.   What line do you guys like?  Since a spool of FC is a sizable investment and there are some poor products out there,  I would appreciate any input, good and bad.

fishing user avatarBasshunterJGH reply :

How much money are we talkin? What is your price range? I'm a huge fan of sunline, but lately I've been using vicious FC in 6 lb test and its a decent line for the money.

fishing user avatarJohn G reply :

I recently purchased some Sunline Sniper FC because it was highly recommended by a lot of guys on this forum. If you go back a few pages you will easily find the Thread. Anyway, I bought some in 10 and 12# and I do like it a lot but I have also ordered some KVD Line and Lure Conditioner from TW to try out on the Sniper to see if it makes any better than it already is.

fishing user avatarOregon Native reply :

Will still go with the Silver Thread.  Not as expensive as a lot of others but have great success.  Have caught many large smallies on eight pound fireline with a 6# Silver Thread leader.  Use other pound tests too and a great bang for the buck.

fishing user avatarww2farmer reply :

For leader material, IMHO you can't beat Seaguar Red Label for the money, but for mainline..................IDK, I don't use fluoro as a mainline because it all sucks LOL.

fishing user avatarChrisD46 reply :

Baitcast 15lb - 20lb :  Seaguar InvizX

fishing user avatarkikstand454 reply :

When I used flouro I really liked the berkley 100%.

It handled great and was plenty strong. That being said. ....I couldn't really find a significant advantage to using it in MY fishing- and I went back to 15# yozuri.

*shrug*

fishing user avatarChief 2 reply :

I have been using the BPS XPS on my reels and have had great success with it this past 6 mos. I also use the KVD line treatment.

fishing user avatarHOG727 reply :

I did search and couldn't find any recent discussions and I appreciate the input.  There are so may brands out there and they are always changing formulations (or at least ad campaigns).  This spring I rode in the back of a couple of BASS Elite Pros and they both used fluorocarbon for jig fishing.  But paid sponsors are one thing and everyday customer reviews are another.  I wanted to use Bass Pro Shops but i read on the forum where they changed it.

Also where to buy to get the best price?  The price range really isn't important if it's a good product.  I've just had some poor experiences and paid a lot for it in the past.

fishing user avatarGrantman83 reply :

Cost per amount is a toss up between sniper and invizx imo. As you get higher end, shooter and tatsu are the bees knees

fishing user avatarColdSVT reply :

The Bass Pro XPS is pretty good with no issues using it yet.  I have also had good success with the Berkley Vanish FC line, though it is a bit more than the XPS stuff.

fishing user avatarfishballer06 reply :

Sunline Sniper FC has been the best main line FC I have found thus far. Seaguar Red Label and InvisX seem to have too much stretch and memory for my liking. For just a leader, I really like the Seaguar AbrasX.

fishing user avatarTywithay reply :

Sniper

fishing user avatarSiebert Outdoors reply :

I fish Inviz X

fishing user avatarJrob78 reply :

I've counted 11 different recommendations so far.  Decide how much money you want to spend and buy one from one of the major manufacturers.  I like Seaguar and Sunline.   With fluoro, you generally get what you pay for.

fishing user avatarFishTank reply :

I like Invisx.  I got one bad spool of it but after that never had an issue.  I also like Trilene 100% FC. I have yet to try Sniper but it is on my list.

fishing user avatarTurkey sandwich reply :

Yo-Zuri Hybrid isn't 100% flouro, but it is still super low viz, low stretch and really abrasion resistant. Right now it's on sale at tackle warehouse for extremely cheap. I've used it as a main line without problem, but now mostly use it mostly for leaders.

fishing user avatarOzark_Basser reply :

I don't care what anyone says.  If I don't have the money to fork out for Seaguar, I'll buy Berkley Vanish all day.  I never have problems with it like a lot of people say.  It has a little more stretch too, which I like when I fish it with reaction baits.

fishing user avatarDCales84 reply :

Your going to get a million different answers on this. If your buying it for the very first time I'd say your best bet is to hit Wal Mart and grab a spool of Seaguar red label. Pretty sure its about 12-13 at most retailers and that will get you 200 or 250yds. I ran 15lb red label for awhile this summer and it held up great esp. with some line conditioner added before every trip. The Bass Pro XPS is also decent for the price and you can snag some one sale fairly cheap. Around my area 20$ will buy about 200yd of InvisX or Trilene 100%. I will say that I do have 12lb Trilene on one reel at the moment and it casts well and has held up great but if it wasn't for being a great buy on clearance I would still be using the red label or XPS brands.

fishing user avatarchris55552 reply :

I recently posted the same thread asking about fluorocarbon and based off the results I purchased Sunline Sniper and I cant imagine better fluorocarbon.  Its has the same qualities of mono with the benefits of fluorocarbon.  Great line.

I use Seaguar almost exclusively now, but the first fluoro I ever used was Vanish. Never ever experienced ANY problems with it. I'm just lucky like that...lol.

fishing user avatarCWB reply :

Check out the reviews at Tackle Warehouse. Click on each brand and read the reviews. Some you'll have to take with a grain of salt but you'll get a pretty good idea of what's what along with pricing. I still can't find a reason to switch from Yo-Zuri Hybrid though.

fishing user avatarprimetime reply :

You will find both positives and negative reviews for every fishing line on the market from the entry level pricing to the most expensive. I personally feel that is because everyone uses different knots, do not check their line while fishing for dings and abrasions, or simply expecting a line to do something it is not meant to do...I used to hate Fluorocarbon until I realized that I needed to fish it more carefully and take my time with knots, and also needed heavier line as most of the nylon monofilaments and copoymers labeled 10lb test are really closer to 15lb test, and straight 100% fluoro in 10lb test is really 10lb test, so I needed to make the necessary adjustements and go heavier.

Many people fish copolymers and think they are using fluorocarbon as companies make it tricky to figure out if a line is nylon, fluorocarbon, or a mixture, and breaking strengh vs. lb test can be decieving as lines like Hybrid are much stronger and thicker than other lines. I use Hybrid #10 since it breaks at 16.6 lbs and the 20 breaks at 31, but I also realize I am using thick line, and when using fluoro #10, I realize that it is not as strong so I am more careful where and how I fish with it. I have used Fluoro from Stren, Berkley, Suffix, Seaguar, and P-line, and have come to realize that they are all good lines if I have the right line for the job I am doing and if I make sure I check my line after every fish even though we all get anxious to make a quick cast after a good fish....I used to hate fluoro as knots would break, temperature caused it to be stiff, and even though it is abrasion resistant it still needs to be checked often if fishing bottom, near rocks, weeds etc. Nothing is worse than having your line break and realizing that it was because the last 3 feet of line was all rough from dragging bottom and it has been an hour since checking. I check as often as I think of it and will re-tie if I feel anything at all, and it takes time out of the water but will save you from losing a big fish. I like to buy line on Twarehouse as I sort by best selling and I look to see what everyone is buying, and I also take note of what brands are on all the storage racks and avoid those lines, although it doesn't take much for a line to get a bad rep when it shouldn't.

I have alway's trusted Stren and Berkley products since they were what I used as a kid, and Seaguar is my first instinct with fluoro as it was the first I tried and heard good things about. I find Fluorocarbon will get you more strikes in most situations, but if I want to have a good day without breakoffs, I will go with #17 if I normally fish 12-14 nylon mono and if I look at the package, most of the 14lb test lines are thicker than the #17 fluoro.

Yo-zuri #6 is actually 12.8 lb test....I have used that line for years and not sure I have ever had a problem with yo-zuri line breaking but I realize it is not a fluorocarbon even if they market it as such, it is a copoly just like the majority of lines out there but rarely do they mention that word, just market the fluoro fused or coated part and it confuses alot of people and it is not at all similar to fluorocarbon 100%, but great for topwater, or all around line on spinning gear, not my fav for casting reels.

fishing user avatarbassr95 reply :

Try a spool of red label! cheap, durable, not super stiff, what more could you ask for? And if you end up hating it for some reason, you're only out 12 bucks :cut:

fishing user avatariceintheveins reply :

P - line 100% Fluoro is a pretty good mid priced one.

fishing user avatarrippin-lips reply :

Sunline sniper fc. As you can see, everyone has their preference. #10-12 yozuri is a great all around line for a baitcaster.

Sunline Shooter or Toray Superhard Upgrade. Pound for pound, they're both the most abrasion resistant lines on the market (actually tested as such, not just marketing).

fishing user avatarMike L reply :

Invisx

Mike

fishing user avatardesmobob reply :

Tests show Toray Superhard being much more abrasion resistant than monos.  Seguar InvisX, which handles nicely and seems to hold knots well, has horrible abrasion resistance.  I use it but keep a careful eye on the last few inches of the line.  Contact with things like Zebra Mussels or rock will absolutely shred the stuff.  I retie a lot.

Tight lines,

Bob

+1 ... As was mentioned earlier - Seaguar Red Lable for leader material is cost effective and offers very good performance .

fishing user avatarThe Next KVD reply :

Really anything that is $20 or more per spool is pretty good.  Anything below that you couldn't pay me to fish with.  Berkley Trilene 100%, P-Line 100% (250yd spool), Sunline Sniper and Shooter are the ones that I feel comfortable buying.  I haven't tried Seaguar Tatsu but from what I'm told its EXTREMELY good.  The new Bass Pro Shops is actually made by Seaguar and probably wouldn't be afraid to try it.  I actually just purchased some Cabelas X50 which is also made by Seaguar and it comes in a 250yd spool for $18-25 or something like that.  Unfortunately I got to wait till late April- early May to try it out when the ice melts off the lakes around here.

Is anyone a fan of Berkley Trilene Or Berkley Trilene XL fluoro? I would like to compare it to Invizex handling wise, as well as sensitivity. Im not worried about low vis or abrasion resistance.

I had 12lb XL Fluoro on a baitcaster and liked it quite a bit. It's pretty similar to Invizx. Maybe a little less manageable, with slightly less stretch. It's good line. Trilene 100% fluoro is garbage, unless you like memory.

Alrighty! Il probably go w/XL then. I have used trilen XL mono and braid and trust their lines. Thanks for the advice!

Power pro or Power Pro slick 8, Sufix 832 is some good line too
fishing user avatarMinnesota Kayak Bassn' reply :

Thanks Chris.  I've been researching everything I can about the 832 and it's been well spoken of.  I will look into the Power Pro 8 slick etc...as well.  Thanks again.

All braid will fray if you're bumping into snags. It's just one of the drawbacks. I prefer 832 over Slick8. Power Pro is a good all around value, but it's noisy compared to 832, doesn't cast quite as well. Best braids I've used is Smackdown or Samurai, but I don't think I'd pay the price over 832; they're only marginally better.

Seaguar invisixl!!

fishing user avatarMinnesota Kayak Bassn' reply :

Thanks guys.  I've read up on just about all of them.  Seaguar was talked about positievly for the most part...but it's stupid expensive.  And everything I've read on reviews about Sufix 832 braid has been really positive for quality and price.  I think I'll be going with the Sufix 832.  I haven't made up my mind yet about Fluorocarbon tho....that's gonna be a tough one.

I have used Sufix mono for quite a few years now and I absolutely love it.  I fish a lot of docks and I've had numerous bass wrapped up but I have never had my line snapped.  It will come back frayed once they wrap up but it retains it's strength.  And I use 20lb test and it's got the diameter of 12-14 so I get great action on my jigs.  Thanks again guys.

fishing user avatarchris55552 reply :

I started a thread asking the same question and sunline sniper was the most recommended.  I tried it and Im amazed at how good sunline sniper FC is.  Its  soft and manageable like stren mono, with the added benefits of a great fluorocarbon line.  The only precaution I would suggest is to constantly "hand-pull" test your knots integrity before making cast and fishing.  Hope this helps...

Ya, they are 40-55% off on TW. Berkley Trilene XL is a good fluoro. Berkley vanist is not 100% FC, as it is a part of their value series Berkley Solutions.

fishing user avatarAcwood04 reply :

I LOVE the Sunline products, the Sniper FC, Reaction FC(for cranks, jerks, reaction bites) and I really love the Sunline shooter, although that's the most expensive Sunline product. I just tried the Seaguar Tatsu and am in love with the way that stuff flys off my baitcasters. For the money I'd go for the Seaguar Invis-x or the Trilene 100% Flourocarbon or if I was really short on cash I'd get the vanish I guess. Invis-x is the best bang for your buck IMO. Someone at the local tackle shop told me that to keep his line costs down, he only puts 100 yards of line on his baitcasters at a time. That way you get more out of the spool, but I like to fill mine up anyways in case of break offs or others.

I had a chance to get my hands on the new Berkley XL Fluorocarbon and it's surprisingly limp. Mind you, this was just in a store and I was only giving the tag end sticking out of the packaging the flick test... 6#, 8# and 10# all felt closer to mono than FC. It's on my short list of lines to try.

How is Sniper better than Tatsu? They're almost identical in stretch, but Tatsu has better abrasion resistance, better knots, and it's more manageable.
fishing user avatarRobert Riley reply :

Thread asked "for the money", and if you want to spend a fair amount, I believe sniper is better, especially considering its a bit cheaper and that's what's asked.
