Is it just me or has the shimano posse been laying low? It seems there are far more Abu guys now. I remember when it was nothing but the posse ganging up bashing te few Abu guys and now it seems like it's mostly Abu and the shimano guys are keeping quiet.......
I have both lol
I have both also but my revos greatly out number my shimanos. 2 S, 1 SX, 2 STX, 1 Premier spinning, 1 stradic Ci4, 1 Citica.
Well, I've asked The Posse to stay away from threads on other brands.
So, Shimano is still the overwelming choice for "what is the best" threads
and our unscientific polls. I've noticed a trend towards Lew's. They don't
reallly have an adequate track record yet, but if they hold up over time.
Lew's could be a contender. What disappoints me is the lack of interest in
Pinnacle. Man, their relatively new line of both rods and reels is absoluting
amazing!
Ya know iv been eye balling some of the pinnacle spinning reels they look sharp.
I am part of the Pflueger posse so me and the 8 other Pflueger freaks here aren't really involved. :-p

I'm skeptical...but if you're right, it's about time.
I fish both as well. Guess I'm a fence sitter. I even have a 300HL Lexa on one of my big bait rods. LOL
Never tried the Pinnacle reels, but the rods I have handled have been well crafted and were very sensitive especially at their price point.
I own 11 Shimano Rod/Reel combos. But I have nothing bad to say about any other line of rods or reels. Most of the stuff out now is quality gear. It really boils down to a preference thing.
I own both abu and Shimano, and some others depending on what species I am chasing. I keep looking at the Pinnacles but just don't need anymore reels right now. But I keep looking!
Shimano fan here, but rapidly turning into a Daiwa fan. Lexa reels in particular. Baitmonkey forced my finger to click "buy", then Paypal - several clicks there - all for a Lexa 2000 spinning reel. I couldn't believe it.
Just spooled it up yesterday, put it on my 6'3" Compre. Amazingly smooth reel. I have yet to do a side-by-side with my Stradic FI, but right now, the Lexa has me very impressed.
From this point on, I must become brand-agnostic. For sanity's sake.
And put my credit cards in the freezer. And cut off all ties with bassresource.com, bass pro, etc.
I have eight Shimano, and twice as many Daiwa, and pepper in some Pinnacle and even a Quantum.
oh I do not however own any shimano or abu rods.
I have loomis, croix and lews rods
I use mainly shimano for my heavy musky rods and mgx's and premiers for my bass stuff. I even have a revo toro on one of my musky rods. That being said I really like the shimanos, a lot. The curado 300 ej on my jerk bait rod might be one of the best casting reels I have ever used. Love it. I don't think bass stuff (at least where I am) requires "workhorse" type reels. I pounded the crap out of my mgx last year with no issues other than occasional lazy thumb bar return. The premier has no notches on it's belt yet. I like the revo line, I like the specs and options but I still question the durability until I have some more logged time. My shimanos all get beat, hard. Casting baits normally 3-16oz. They all show no signs of slowing down. From my perspective it's easy to fall in love with the revo line especially if you shop around, I think that has a lot to do with people leaning towards abu. I think my premier came over lubed, I'm going to tear it down and re lube. It feels a little "thick" when I crank.
I own a pfleuger president spinning, love it. Abu SX 3rd gen, love it. Lews speed spool, love it. Pro qualifier, same as the others. I also beleive most reels that are made now are high quality. The only thing that made me not like quantum is I have a rod and reel from them and it's terrible. I also held the EXO and the way they made a reel which costs so much is poor in my opinion. I have not however tried any of there other reels except for those two, so I can't declare that I don't like quantum yet.
Which reels do you like from quantum? I might have to try some out. Or at least go to BPS and hold some.On 3/12/2013 at 11:22 PM, A-Jay said:I'm currently running Pfleuger, Quantum and Shimano reels ~

I quietly use all 15 Shimano reels, 10 curados and 5 stradics. All are over 7 years old. All mounted on St.Croix rods. I guess I'm too old to let the rod/reel monkey chase me around.
I dont know about you guys but im not sinking $100+ on a pinnacle reel when I can get a daiwa lexa for $109 shipped. Pinnacle came out of the gate too late with too high of a price point.
Ya cant even look at them right now because they have a database file size error.
Reels - Shimano - 1 Chronarch, 4 Curados, 3 Citicas, Stradic, Sienna, then add in 2 BPS PQ, Prolite, 1 BPS Extreme and a Daiwa. Sold off my only Abu Garcias last week.
I'm not a "fanatic" and don't have problems with other brands, like jb stated...personal preference. That said, I'm starting to change over most of my rods to the Compre/Crucial Lines. I just like how they feel over the other rods I own.
I love variety and own Shimano, ABU, Daiwa, and a couple BPS reels. My personal favorite reel is a tuned up curado E. It hasnt been trouble free; (one of the drag discs inexplicably started breaking down) but I love the way it casts.
love my abu garcia, pflueger, and penn reels
I just buy things to try them and I can never really stick with one brand because they don't always have something new that I want. I like Pflueger spinning reels but I also like some of the Shimano ones too. I like Lew's casting reels a lot but they are fairly new to me.
I also did buy a Pinnacle Optimus XLT a few months back to try too. It seems pretty decent but I paid more for it than the Lew's tp and it's not as smooth and doesn't have as good of a fit and finish when compared to the Lew's. I haven't really given it a good workout yet so I don't know how it performs. It's certainly much better than the other pinnacle equipment I've seen in the past and overall I think it might end up being pretty good. We'll see though.
I'm a sucker for a good deal too....so if I see a reel at half price and it looks interesing, I'll probably get it no matter who makes it (for the most part).
Tried lews didnt like it, went back to shimano, never had an issue with them, my next caster may be a revo simply because the price/features/realability are right.
One Shimano, one Pflueger, one revo-s, and three round Abu reels.
I'd be interested in the Pinnacle reels, especially the Optimus lines, but no one local carries them, nor does BPS and now apparently Cabela's doesn't have it anymore either. We just got a Cabela's store. I'll look next time I'm in there but this year's catalog doesn't show it anymore. I'm a hands on before I buy guy when it comes to tackle.
i have noticed they have been laying low. But thats because i havent seen Gambler running around lately. I have been a die hard Abu guy, but i purchased a Daiwa Lexa 100, and am now trying to figure out how i can afford ridding myself of all my Revo S's and gettin all Lexas. I stll love my Gen 2 Premier though, that will forever be my favorite reel. I just sold my Curado, so i am now shimano baitcaster free. I still have a Sahara spinning reel, but thats pretty much the wifes, so that doesnt count.
I'm part of the " I fish what I like, and don't give a crap what every one else uses posse" Even though all my reels are Shimano, and all my rods are St Croix, I don't feel the need to go on long winded rants on why my stuff is better than yours. For one, because quite frankly, that is highly subjective, and for two...........I just don't care. I'm sure if I fished brand x, y, or z the end results would be the same. Now if someone asks a question about a particular rod/reel I own or use, I am more than happy or willing to tell what I think about it. I am also willing to tell someone they are full of crap when they proclaim gear they have spent little to no time with on the water is garbage, and that the stuff they have is great, because, of course they own it.
I am on the Team Lew's and Shimano Bandwagon. Both fill different needs for me and both are awesome!
I've got it down to 6 shimano reels, 4 shimano rods, a Fenwick smallie rod, and Powell max rod. Hoping to add an nrx and recon too....

The Tour KVD reels ~ The Cranker, the 6.6:1 and the 7.3:1.
I've been fish the Quantum Tour PT rods & reels for a while and I like them.
A-Jay
http://www.quantumfishing.com/products/1885/Tour-KVD.aspx
I use shimano citicas, and curado E5, E7, and 50E's. I have fished with many others including daiwa, BPS pro qualifier and prolite/carbonlites, quantum, pflueger, and abu garcia. Prefer shimano for many reasons, not the least of which is how they feel in my hand. I prefer shimano stradics in spinning gear, but have fished many of the others. I am not "set" on just fishing shimano, and look at other reels. Just have not found the right reel for the right deal to try anything else ...YET.
As far as rods go, I have and use cabelas XML series, shimano cumara, crucial, and compre, St. croix avids, and powell max and endurance series. I like them all, but really favor the cumara series.
Have not tried them yet, but am interested in the abu veritas and dobyns series rods. Again, right deal has not presented itself yet.
Pinnacle was big here in Fl. for a year in the early 90s. Everyone thought they had a cheap alternative of a Calcutta. No tackle shop would work on them and the salt seized then up in a trip or two. I could never bring myself to get one then, I wont try now either.
Im interested in how guys slam a Revo and praise a Lew's that came out of a different back door of the same factory.
I don't care what anyone uses, as I'm not brand loyal, nor do I care about huge corporations. I tend to buy the latest/greatest, or what feels good to ME. That being said, this board has gotten out of hand with Abu threads being invaded by Shimano fan boys. The Revo S vs STX thread on here was invaded not 2-3 posts in by someone saying to "buy a Shimano". I'm sure if these people were interested in a Shimano product, they would have asked about one. Shimano guys are like Jehovas Witnesses. Relentless, unwanted, and always interrupting at the wrong times. Why Bassresource doesn't have brand specific forums is beyond me. This would keep the Shimano Posse out of the Abu, Okuma, Pflueger etc threads, and vice versa.
I like my JDM Shimano's and really don't get into the War Games.....I leave that to the experts.

That is because he has been over at TT lately getting his come uppins ...It is quite comical.
It's funny I knew what this thread was about based on the title. The head of the gang has taken his talents elsewhere and it's heading the same way....all I can say.
I actually had to pry a commen out of him a few weeks ago lol

Yup, and Fox and Banax and Penn and Pheluger. I like my new Revo S, its gonna be a great stay in the truck reel. But its still a Ford/Mazda, Chev/Daihatsu in a BMW world.
Arnt Pfluegers made by the same company ad Revo and lews also?
My first bait caster was a Pflueger echlon I still have it I should clean her up it was a good reel it has taken one heck of a beating it looks rough. My quantums I wish I could say the same they have all broke in less then a season still have that pile of reels also none work right but still look brand new. My echlon looks like it's been threw a woodchipper and spent a year at the bottom of the lake but still works great.
Ill be the first one to admit when I got my first nice shimano I was in love and bragged about it here That said I've realized yes it's nice to have "nice and/or expensive" gear.
Since then I've realized. 1. I have a lot to learn as far as catching and understanding bass fishing is concerned. 2. Fish what feels good in your hand and just enjoy being outdoors, fish what feels good in your hand, and try to spread the enjoyment to friends and family. That's more like four but you get the point.

Yeah I never met him but I did like him he PM'd me some when I was in the hospital and when going threw the divorce also. He was a good guy and I found his pro shimano posts entertaining.
At first I found the LMG Shimano posts to be really annoying even though I fish with Shimano as well as ABU and others. Then I "got it" and enjoyed the laughs and humor.

Ain't that the truth!
I did a quick inventory of the casting reels I own in casting only. They broke down like this...
5 mid to high end shimanos
1 high end US Daiwa reel
2 high end JDM reels
2 lower end Lews reels
5 mid to high end BPS reels
1 high end Okuma reel
I am not really brand loyal as you can tell. If I had to pick a brand preference I would say Shimano and Daiwa would be my selections followed closely by Okuma.
Abu reels and abu rods for casting gear. pflueger reels and fenwick rods for finesse spinning stuff. and a few bps' utility reels for backup.
Agreed. That dude was annoying to no end. Hopefully he had knee pads for all of his Shimano worshiping. Maybe IRL he's a good guy though. On 3/13/2013 at 8:31 AM, RyneB said:so hes gone? can we throw a bass resource party? Lets see... I've got 38 Shimano USDM, 18 Jdm. 21 Daiwa, 14 JDM.. 11 Abu Garcia. 12 Lews, 6 Ardent and a couple megabass. Oh, some pro qualifier baitcast, and some others like VanStaal thrown in there too.
Of those, 27 Shimano, both USDM and Jdm, 11 Daiwa, 1 Revo, 6 Lews, one Ardent, and one Megabass get any sort of regular use. Those are the sticks in the boat, or the ones I grab when I fish with someone else.
Of what is in constant use, it's 2 Daiwa, 13 Shimano, and 4 Lews.
Posse schmosse.
He discovered tackle tour is all........ Now he has a whole new crowd of JDM Daiwa owners to convert
He is like visa, he's everywhere you want to be. I dont go there but he is on another site I frequent trying/converting the uninformed, spreading the gospel. Shimanoluyah!
