I just won another tournament today. I am finally ready to buy my first shimano baitcaster. I have about $175 to spend. I have two casting rods that need reels. I regularly switch reel on my rods based on the conditions. I have two of the same 6'6" MH Falcon Buccoo micros, and there is a person selling two lightly used Shimano Casitas USDM in 6.3:1. Would these be good for spinnerbaits and moving baits?
I am mostly a left hand retrieve angler, but i also found a 2012 Shimano Aldebaren BFS in a right hand.
I also like the shimano scorpion and chronarch mg. might get that later to put on another rod for swimbaits and jerk baits though.
So am i better off with 2 casitas or one aldebaren? i have one caster i can't really use/ don't use, so i might want to try that?
Ald BFS wouldn't serve your needs as well. Also, first gen model was a bit touchier than '16 model. Low line capacity and 8:1 retrieve would be very limiting with moving baits. Casitas is a good workhorse reel. I owned two of them. It's certainly not high end but very practical.
Curado 200i or Curado K
Now I'm thinking a JDM Shimano Engetsu but it is only a 5.5:1
Just get a Curado imo. The I is on sale for about 120 right now then you can spool it up with the line of your choosing.

My thoughts exactly.
There are not many Curado I reels left on the racks. My recent reel purchases, I picked up a Curado I HG for right at $130, a display Caenan HG for $70 and a display Curado 70 XG for $174. These augment a Curado I and Curado I HG I that l already had. The point being, I recommend the Curado I but you better hurry.
I hear they don't cast to far, that is the Curados...

Never heard that before.

Well, you heard wrong and then some.

Whoever told you that must not know how to properly set up a curado. There are too many variables to factor of which I'm willing to bet the cause is likely angler error. Any reel in the curado class and its counter parts from other companies should be able to cast far when properly set up and in the hands of an experienced user.

My Curado i casts a mile. Well, not literally, but it casts faaar.

Rod is more important than reel when it comes to casting. Someone was probably trying to cast an 1/8 ounce shaky head on 25lb fluoro, on a mh rod and blamed it in the reel

That's like trying to cast a 1 ounce swimbait on a ML rod and 4 pound test.
Curado 200 I 6.3 and 7.2 are on sale for $129.99
After fishing many high end reels from all the big players I am a 100% shimano man. Havnt fished a jdm casitas, but I do own a aldebaran. My vote says 2 reels are better than 1
For the Jerkbait:
I would get the the Curado/Scorpion 70. The small profile will feel better as you will be jerking it. I have the Scorpion with St. Croix Mojo Bass (M/F). The line will just be fine.

was thinking of getting that for christmas
and getting another reel, I'm really undecided though...

This deserves the big guy:
Well it seems i may be wrong! and not in a bad way...

That's a saltwater reel and really isn't meant for bass. Honestly for the $175 range I'd just get a Curado.

I dream that they are taking the Curado I's off the racks to stock up on them for Black Friday!
For $175 it wont get you much in terms of a JDM Shimano reel. You may find something that is older or used on various forums or somewhere like Ebay that may be around that much money. I would consider getting something USDM or possibly saving up a bit more money to buy a JDM Shimano reel.
If you were buying a USDM reel I would probably just try to find a deal on a Curado K or a used Chronarch MGL. If the reel is going on a MH rod you probably don't want to put a finesse/BFS casting reel on it.

You weren't wrong so don't worry or feel bad. We were just trying to make the point that heresay should be taken with a grain of salt and the best way to confirm or refute a claim is to see for one's self. Ever since I was young I always questioned things. When I was told 2+2 = 4, I asked my teacher how. Of course that was simple to prove. When they told me that the sum of the squares of the two sides of a right triangle was equal to the square of the length of the hypotonuse, I didn't doubt it but I wanted to see how that conclusion was arrived. Now that's a fun one. Although I don't have a proof, I think I "see" a curado in your future, lol.
Take a good look at the new Curado K if you have a $175 budget and I would recommend the fastest one. By all reviews, professional and everyday angler, this is a fantastic reel by Shimano, which may over shadow the popular "E" series.

I bought my first Shimano not too long ago. It is the older version Metanium. Academy had them on sale to make room for the new ones. I don't have any brand loyalty. I just buy what I think is the best value. In this case for the first time I went with Shimano.
I am going to side with those suggesting you buy 2 Tatula CTs.
Do not listen to the dark side of the Force, stay in the light, the golden path, Shimano.
I have two of the most recent version Aldebarans and they are amazing.

Me too. In fact I'm gonna get some more myself before next season.

Thanks. I am going to enjoy reading with a cup of coffee. Reminds me of a Star Trek episode where Scotty's idea of a relaxing time was reading a technical manual and capt. Kirk was dumbfounded, lol.
I have been looking on craigslist all over the country and make offers to people if they will ship. maybe ill get lucky sooner or later...

I have a tail ct, zillion tws, and arachnid, all three are awesome. believe it or not the arachnid cast the best. Not sure why i can't get the zillion to cast that far, its also not as good with the light stuff. for 300$ id expect better. The reel does fell much more solid though.

Newish? From where? What kind of line?
I generally do not buy very much used. I bought several display units this year, saved a bunch.
One of the best Shimano reels made is the Core series Core 101MG7 can be found new!
Tom
Looking into a shimano and a lews
what do you guys think of a Citica 6.3 for 89 $ vs a curado 201 in ibeleve 6.3 or 7.2 for 110.
If you have the dollars, Curado I HG.
Citica G or I?

its the latest one and I'm getting a curado now for 110, unless y'all think otherwise
I'd get the Citica I if you're strapped for cash AND not planning to fish saltwater with it.

You see the videos of the guy testing the distance of the new 200K? One internal on and the dial at 2 he was getting like 195 feet with a 1/2 oz plug.

wow thats really far.
Update: no reels purchased yet, but I am considering getting one aldebaren or metanium, or two curado 70/ks. not sure which way to go.
If I were you - I would get the Curado 71 (since you are a lefty).
unless you are gotta slap that Aldebaran on your NRX 854C
You have enough gear. I've seen your set ups listed in another one of your threads.....why add 2 of the same reels that aren't really that much of a step up? Buy the Metanium MGL if you have the 45% sponsor discount and the bucks to drop. Other than it's shockingly light weight I don't think the Aldebaran is that great of a reel for the price tag. It casts light lures well but the MGL spools in the Casitas JDM, Chronarch, and Metanium perform nearly as well IMO and carry enough line so you can still use them for cranking and topwater.
