Answer: Depends what you're fishing for. I have a 2000 on my heavy action, I have a 20lb braid and bankfish for mostly stripers in the 5-15lb range. Most people would use a 3000 since you can get an extra 50 yards or so of line. I'm constantly on my pole so I don't get spooled.

Answer: The emerald eagle has sealed bearing designed for saltwater use and the sharky iii is designed to be used with live bait. If you would “READ” the “Description” you’d figure all this out. Also included would be to choose the correct size reel. It’s ALL in the “DESCRIPTION!”

Fishing With The Oz : Smooth, light and fast. Exactly what I had hoped for.
I have become a fan of the KastKing products and am quite pleased with this reel. I paired it with a medium KastKing rod and 15lb KastKing braid and am loving the feel and casting distance. This reels performs every bit as good, if not better, than my more expensive Penn Fierce reel. I only gave it 3 stars for durability because I can't really judge that until I have owned it for a year.

I bought this reel in the 3000 size. I fish mostly inshore marshes and bays in Louisiana for speckled trout and redfish mainly. I have caught everything from small trout up to 30 pound redfish and drum on this reel and no matter what is on the hook it performs flawlessly every time. Smooth reeling to a strong drag when you need it to keep fish off or around structure are some of the high points for me. The braid-ready spool is also a nice feature. Hope this review helps. I couldn’t recommend this reel enough.

This reel is very smooth and looks great the construction looks very good the only issue I have is that the bolt for the handle is smooth instead of ribbed so if you wanted to remove the handle it would be a bit difficult.

Bald Cook : A solid 6.2:1 reel at a reasonable price
I've been looking for a higher retrieve speed reel for a while when my long-time fishing buddy (who had just bought the KastKing ultralight 500 reel) said I might like this one. We've both been fishing for many decades and know quality when we "feel" it. This is one solid reel. The bail operation is one of the smoothest, easiest, positive release I've ever seen on reels costing 2-3X as much!
Unfortunately, my fishing season is over as winter is now here so I won't be able to give it a field test until spring. I can't wait to add to this review with a real live try in a few months! Stay tuned!

Bought this reel for my son's birthday and as he was headed to Georgia for his next duty station I thought he could use this for lakes around the area. I asked him what he thought and he says this is by far the easiest reel he has ever used and the casts are smoother than any reel he currently has. I told him about KastKing a while back and he had mentioned wanting to use one so I sent him this one. He has already bought another one and says he will never go back to his other brand. He says drag works great for the bigger bass and he has had no issues with line tangle. He mated it to a Lew's XFinity Speed Stick and that combo is light and he can use it all day.

This reel pairs nicely with my Kastking Resolute rod. The spool comes braid ready even though I still put a few revolutions of mono as a backer. Just my personal preference. The retrieve is smooth right out of the box but I still put some reel oil on it. Drag seems smooth, handled the back to back 3+ puonders.
E. Bern : Average at best
I live on a lake and fish most days. This reel is average at best . I find the spool to be loose around the main shaft when I have the drag adjusted for the lite line I use. This is not the case with the 3 other reels I fish with when I'm out. I also find it makes more noise when retrieving the line as well. It is strung with Kastking Super Power braided line. All the reels that I fish with cost between $45 and $65 so they are in the same price ball park. They are Pfluger President XT, Quantum Inferno 40, Quantum Escalade 30 and a DAM Quick 330N which is old and smooth as glass. We'll see how this KastKing reel is doing in a couple of years.

Nice looking reel, beats out my Shimano reel in quality abd is far less exornsive. Highly recommend. My 1st KastKing reel. I just received it today but I am impressed with how it feels and looks. I paired it with a pedigree ii rod. I cannot wait to try it out. Spooling it up was super easy with the braid ready spool. I was also impressed with the packaging. Box inside a box with plenty of padding.

Have had my Valiant Eagle for a couple weeks now and am *finally* liking it. When I first got it I was getting a scratching noise. After asking about the problem I got an answer that maybe the drag was set too light. Mine was the opposite it was set way too tight which was causing the problem.
It's working great now, very smooth. Have caught large bass on it plus some big bluegill.

I was a bit skeptical that a reel at this price could handle the rigors of inshore saltwater fishing in the Gulf of Mexico. After numerous Flounder, Redfish, Speckled Trout, White Trout, Spanish Mackerel and other fish, the reel still feels strong and silky smooth. I will be buying more of these!

This is a very smooth reel and freshwater and saltwater rated. I like that it has a slightly faster gear ratio than other spinning reels. The design of the reel is pretty awesome as well. I love what the reel stands for as well.

have to admit I was looking forward to a premium for ordering from KastKing. however this is still a great reel. I got the 2000 series for crappie and bass fishing matched to a 7'2'' rod with 6# braid. cast great smooth retrieve I have not caught anything over 2# yet so i cant really comment on the drag quality. I have many kastking products from reels ,rods gloves line and pliers. I have found them to be affordable quality products and will continue to buy as needed.

Just got my new Valiant Gold Eagle 2000 real from KastKing. My buddy was constantly buying Kast King Products and I was a little against them as they were not brand name. I am more of a Penn kind of guy. I needed a new reel for my light line surf fishing pole and didn't want to spend a grip of cash. After checking out all of Kastking's spinning reels and features I was amazed at the features they were offering.
Opened the box which is always great to get an original box with instructions, stickers, free braided line coupon, and a cloth storage bag. Took the reel out and I was amazed at the quality of everything. It has a great feel and the materials were not cheap. The bail arm is solid and burly and the whole thing spins smooth as glass. Cant wait to take it out this weekend.

Have had for a couple months after returning one that looked used out of the box. Already making sounds and the retrieve sticks. Will skip KastKing on my next setup. Seems to not have good durability or I'm unlucky with quality control. But hey if your a kid on a budget, these may work for you.

Can't get it to stop making noise! Sounds like something is caught between the spool and frame but there is nothing. And yes it is cleaned and lubed. I have serious problems with line twist as well. And yes, the line is on the right way... Shimano from here on.

I just purchased two of these. One as a gift and of course one for myself. I went fishing on Saturday and I have to say the quality of this real is superb. Great drag system. Smooth as silk. Strong design and not cheaply made. I've owned many KastKing reels over the year's and this is now one of my favorites. Had a great day pulling up Peacock Bass as well as Bass on Saturday . I'll see how much further I can truly test it. As one my first use it's outstanding.

Got this reel and used it the same day. I don't have enough time to write how incredible it performed. This is by far one of the best reels I've used and can stack up against top tier brands. This is the best bargain I have found. I'll be ordering more in the future

I bought 3 of these for my boys and paired with castaway 7’ taranis rods. We went pier fishing and hooked some 3 and 4 footsharks. These reels were awesome. Super smooth, drag is as advertised, we stressed these things to the max and no issues. I put 50 lb braid on them. We landed 3 sharks that were 3 feet. We could not get the bigger ones up the pier. We also caught several sail catgs and white trout. I would highly recommend these.

I went with the 2000 size, for large mouth it's perfect. I was unsure of the handle on these but after a bunch of 3-4# bass with some spunk I've learned to really like it.

Felt good and worked well for the first 5 or 6 times. Then the bail would not lock open so when I cast, the bail comes down and snags my line short on the cast. It also won’t fully stay closed. The guide on the bail is also wearing off the black paint only after a few uses. Disappointing....
It's a great day : Solid and capable reel
Similar to the Cast King rod I paired this with I was skepitacal due to the low price of the pair but it has been a match made in heaven for me. This real has been character tested on multiple occasions on larger inshore fish and fully exceeded my expectations. A steal at this price!!!!

This is a nice reel for how cheap it was! I put this on my travel rod for my trips, so we will see about the longevity of it. Looks good and reels smooth! Now I'm just waiting for warmer weather to get out and play! If I have any issues with this reel, I will add to this rating.

Delivered as promised in excellent condition. It is a beautiful little machine. I hope it holds up to saltwater conditions as I do a week's worth of surf fishing every year on vacation. The salt has been murder on my freshwater reels in years past. Looking forward to trying it out! Update. Unfortunately, Had to return this reel because of severely uneven line lay on the spool. Thankfully Kastking customer service was excellent. Received my replacement alot faster than expected. The line lays evenly on the new reel and it casts awesome. Only issue that remains is that this one is not nearly as smooth as the first and is noisy on the retrieve. Kastking makes some good budget reels( I have a few Summers and Centrons at half the price) just think the quality control may be lacking. Guess I'll keep it and see how it holds up. Update: The reel performed excellent on my week Long surf fishing expedition. It was subjected to quick dunks and multiple splashes in the surf, and continued to function where other reels in the past would have certainly failed. Got to give it another star for durability in the salt.
Rifles n Reels : Don't believe the hype.
Bought 2 based on reviews, not impressed. Not crazy smooth and casting distance is limited. Daiwa Regal LT is MUCH smoother and about the same price, maybe + $10 but worth every penny. It too lacks in casting distance but it's a $50 reel, can't expect the world. Don't forget you're getting a 22lb drag with both so there's your trade off for the lost distance (20 yds) I suppose. Sorry Kast King, I like my Royale Legends but I have no dog in this fight and this is my honest review.
Amazon Customer : Kastking Emerald Eagle
I have bought a couple of the Kastking centron reels in the past and they seem to be durable and affordable. I decided to try the emerald eagle for a bit bigger water, specifically salmon/steelhead fishing in the rivers due to its heavy drag capacity and quick line pick up. I have not had a chance to test the product yet but with it in my hands now it seems to be worth the price point. Time will tell.

once again i am impressed with the build quality of the kastking fishing reels, this is my second one i have purchased first was the Spartacus bait caster about a year ago and it has been my favorite reel since, so when i got a new spinning rod my choice was already made to go n see what kast king had to offer, for 50$ you really cant beat the build quality and function of these reels, they are a great budget friendly option to keep fishing fun with out breaking the bank. i will continue to buy and use cast king reels.

Have the emerald eagle model and it has quickly become my favorite reel. It's been on several different rods with several different types of line, and it is just a great reel. It casts a mile and is silky smooth. It pairs well with Berkley XL and Kastking flourokote line.

Like other KastKing products I’ve bought, this reel has very high quality. Put the reel on a KastKing Perigee 2 and strung it up with KastKing 12 lb. braid. Took it out for a test drive the day it came in and I really liked the reel. Very comfortable and lightweight. I could fish for hours with this reel and not get tired.

Took this reel out for the first time today, and as expected it worked flawlessly. Smooth, drag worked well, casted like it should. Paired it up with my new KastKing Blackhawk II and it makes for a great, lightweight setup to keep in the car or throw in a backpack and ride my bike to a local pond, which is what I did today. I love my Sharkey III, but this being a little lighter makes it great for a portable setup. Only minor “flaw” would be I like the handle on the Sharkey III a little better, but that’s just a personal preference and nothing wrong with the reel. Really happy with this purchase, but I have been with everything I’ve bought from KastKing so it doesn’t come as a surprise.

I purchased two of the 4000 reels for a fishing trip and the first reel broke on the first day out. Switched to the second reel and it performed flawlessly over the next four days so maybe just happened to get a defective reel. I missed the Amazon return window by 4 days. I should have purchased the reels a little closer to our trip. The reels however, cast beautifully, have a very nice drag, are light weight and perform very nice. I really like the reel and hope the company will do something to make this right!!!
