Product Description
Japanese Hamai Cut Gearing, Torrent reel has a bigger, stronger, reinforced main gear than the average baitcasters.
Engineered and precision-cut gears, plus stainless steel springs and screws provides strength, water resistance, reliable operation, and quiet, steady-speed retrievals. There is not another baitcasting fishing reel on the market with reinforced gears.
4 customer fit carbon fiber drag washers, simply outlast sand performs better than what are often composite washers, making fine-tuning to power a simple turn of the star drag adjustment. Keep drag pressure off when not use.
Optimal shielded bearings mean a long life from oil wear particles and water, fresh or salt. We put the right bearing at the place of serious business. They redefine smooth and free pool for low profile baitcast reel.
Five strategically placed magnets to optimize the magnetic affect on the ported aluminum spool and a precise dial-in-gauge for backlash control. Coupled with the spool tension knob and light thumb pressure the days of tangled bird nests are gone. A simple lever releases the removable side-plate for maintenance and periodic cleaning.
Have you lost parts when doing a quick oil on your reel? Piscifun engineers solved the problem with a quick oil port design. Simply remove the screw and oil, a plus for novice to pro anglers. While others have hatches and cover with screws, this makes things so easy and simple.
Double line winding shafts come as standard equipment for stability, performance, and strength unlike so many other bait caster reel on the market. It is a feature often found on much more expensive reels. There is nothing better than fishing with confidence in your equipment for that one big fish.

Would you recommend this or getting a Piscifun Phantom X?
Answer: I have both the Torrent and the Phantom X. The Torrent is a great baitcaster reel that can really cast a mile but the Phantom X is a little bit better at both casting and retrieval. It's also quite lighter. In reality, you won't go wrong with either of the two.
Answer: The Torrent and the Phantom X seem to be close to the same,by the reviews I have watched.I got the Torrent to get acquainted with a bait caster .If you are already familiar with them,my next one would be a Phantom. It has internal magnetic and external centrifugal brakes to tune your casting more.
Answer: I woud recommend these reels to everyone.
Answer: Absolutely hands down worth it’s weight in Gold it is my go to reel for all my jig, crank, topwater, Texas rig anything I have logged over 100 fish on it for the last 3 months on this reel and I absolutely love it
Answer: Not familiar with phantom x so can’t answer
Answer: I have never tried the x. I really like the Torrent reel. It worked great in both salt water and lake water. Easy to clean and continues to operate well. I might try the x sometime but am pleased with the Torrent!
Answer: I’ve been using this for fluke fishing . It’s a good reel for the price point.
Q:
Would this reel be good for saltwater?
Answer: Just had mine serviced because the bearing on the tension knob rusted. Good reel but just to take care of it when using in saltwater
Answer: No these do not have stainless bearings and I have begun to replace them in all reels I have 4. Glad bearings are cheap!
Answer: Nope. Got salt water in mine and rinsed it off but the next day it was seized up and all bearings ruined. It says stainless bearings but they are either lying or just started putting them in.
Answer: Yes been using mine since I got it. Just rinse it at home afterwards
Answer: Yes. Of course
Q:
Is it good in salt water
Answer: The Torrent reel is good in salt water.
Answer: This is great for saltwater. That is all I fish. As long as you wash it down after every use, you should be good.
Answer: Yes it would be good. You would just need to remember to oil it a little out of the box. That way you can pick your preference of oil.
Answer: DO NOT use this reel in saltwater. It was NOT designed for saltwater use. This is an excellent reel for lakes and ponds ONLY. Even if you clean it regalarly after you use it in saltwater it will eventually cease on you. The interior components and worm gear will deteriorate from the acidity in the saltwater.
Answer: No
Answer: No this reel is absolutely not good in saltwater. I purchased this real based on the previous answer of yes. After one yes (and cleaning it after), it was ceased on me the very next use. The manufacturer informed me that it should not be used in saltwater...
Q:
It will not let me purchase right hand reel? It does not give me an option.
Answer: Really sorry the trouble brought to you. The Torrent Right Handed reel was sold out. In order to get it at the first time, please add it to your wishlist for backorder. Thank you!
Q:
I live in the US and the free shipping says it will take 5-8 days. Isn't Piscifun in the UK, or do they have a US based warehouse to ship that fast?
Answer: Mine came about 3 days I live in Alabama
Answer: Picifun is American based
Q:
What are the size of the bearings?
Answer: It's 5+1 ball bearings. :)
Answer: Cant tell bearings are sealed. This reel needs to be oiled a lot to keep noise down. Other than that its a good reel
Q:
Why can you select left hand reel ?
Answer: The left handed reels will be available on Amazon.com after 1-2 days. Please check it out later.
Q:
Would this reel work for saltwater bowfishing or slingshot fishing? What is thr highest weight line it could take?
Answer: Yes, it could be work for saltwater fishing. Meawhile, we would recommend you to rinse the reel with warm freshwater first.
Answer: I only use it for saltwater fishing, I just oil it after each trip. I use 30lb Berkeley Tracer braid on it, casts a smooth mile. Don’t know about now or slingshot.
Q:
Is it oil or grease through the quick lube port?
Answer: I personally would not recommend grease. Use only oil, preferably "Reel Butter". This is a lightweight oil designed specifically for reels. And, use very sparingly.
Answer: I actually haven't used the port yet, the reel is so easy to take down, I just spend 5 seconds, dismantle it, and lube it then. But I would imagine you could use either one. I favor oil, myself, because grease makes such a mess. This reel is a jewel! Simply amazing! If you don't have it - BUY IT!!
Answer: OIL
Answer: Yes, it is. Remember to reel the handle that.
Q:

Right below it, you should be able to see 2 smaller boxes with a right handed and a left handed Piscifun Baitcaster reel in it. Click on the one you want. I just did what I told you and the choices were right there. Hope this works, Its a good Reel.
Answer: You choose left or right. They have both

Do you guys have it in a left handed reel?
Answer: Yes. But the left handed reels sold out. The left handed reel will be available after 2-3 days. Really so sorry the trouble brought to you.
Answer: You can choose "7.1:1-Left Handed" version. The left handed reels are available now. Welcome to try it out!
Q:
can it hold small bonito/tuna 15lb fish?
Answer: Can it? sure ……… should you pick this reel for fishing for 15+ lb fish all the time? no! This reel and most like it are designed for Bass fishing or fish in that weight/fighting range, most Bass/etc. don't average 15 lbs. I have caught 10-15 lb Muskie on a 2000 size reel and 8 lb braid while fishing for Crappie, still doesn't make it a good choice for fish that big.
Answer: I bass fish, so I don't know about small bonito/tuna 15ib fish
Q:
Does this reel comes with the centrifugal braking sytem?
Answer: The torrent baitcasting reel doesn't come with the centrifugal brake system. If you would like to use the reel with centrifugal brake system, we recommend to try Piscifun Phantom X baitcasting reels.

Q:
I have a piscifun torrent rod.do i have to use this reel or can i use any reel that i like?
Answer: No, you can use any reel you like. If your rod has a trigger underneath (opposite the line guides) you can use any bait caster or spin cast reel you choose the mounting rail is universal.
Answer: You can use any baitcaster with any bait casting rod. Spinning reels go with spinning rods.
Answer: Lol use any reel you like that feels best to you
Answer: Any baitcaster reels will work on this pole...have to say this reel is awesome for the price...nice reel
Q:
Is this good for frog
Answer: The Alloy M 8.4:1 baitcasting reel is good for frog.
Answer: So good, I bought 4 of them...! I use spinner baits, frogs, chatter baits, and soft/hard lures with them. When setup properly (I use 8-Strand Braid), these reels don't backlash...! Best reel for the money, on the market right now! (For an even BETTER Reel, the Phantom is my choice!).
Answer: Gear ratio is to fast for a frog
Answer: It’s cheaply made and wasted my money. Mine froze after using it twice. So to answer your question, it’s only good for the trash can.
Answer: Yes

Answer: Braided 30lbs / 120 yrds
Q:
Will salt water affect the magnetic drag system?
Answer: I would would Believe so if salt water some how got inside of the reel
Answer: Only if you don't rise the reel with freshwater after you've gone fishing and use a silicone based type of spray or better yet WD-40, which is what always seems to work for me. I highly recommend this reel to anyone. It's very easy to adjust. Just remember, to rise thoroughly and spray with lube...
Q:
does this reel have an anti-reverse setting (can only reel in - not out)?
Answer: Yes
Q:
Does a leader knot fit through the line guide?
Answer: A leader knot? Depends on how long or short you plan on making your leader. And, the knot you intend to tie. All in all: I would think most knots, (properly tied) would work fine.
Answer: Depending on leader knot type and the size of line strung.
Q:
How many come in one order?
Answer: JUST THE ONE REEL.
Answer: One reel unless the buyer purchases additional units
Answer: Just 1
Q:
Does this reel comes with the centrifugal braking system?
Answer: The Torrent has a very effective magnetic braking system. It casts far with few backlashes if you are proficient with a baitcast reel.
Answer: As Tom says, yes, It has an effective magnetic braking system. You just have to dial in your weights and lures, and you're good to go. Practice will get you controlling your casts pretty quickly.
Answer: Yes
Q:
Just bought a rod for this reel very noisy squeaks like a mess I can’t find any other place to put more oil kind of disappointed!!!!!
Answer: I've got five and none of them are squeaky or loud I put Lucas reel Oil in the oil spot on the side of all 5 and have not had an issue
Answer: I've thrown mine out. I could not get the bar to cast down after using the rod several days.
Q:
Is the spool tension knob supoosed to click? Mine doesnt click. Not sure if its broken. Im used to hearing them click
Answer: Mine does not click.
Answer: Yes it’s supposed to click when you turn it
Answer: Mine does not. Not sure if it should. All ok though.
Answer: Yes, mine clicks.
Answer: No its smooth and silent a very nice reel
Q:
How often should i add oil in this reel? and should i add oil when i first use this reel?
Answer: Its ready to go outta the box. I would not shoot oil in that oil port. Its a gimmick. You dont want oil on the drag washers and the port doesnt get to the other aide of the spool where another bearing is. Learn how to do proper maintenance yourself. Youll be happy and the reel will better
Answer: We suggest you just put a drop of oil to the bearings on the sideplate, spool shaft and the tension knob if you want to do that before using it.
Answer: it has been oiled as far as when id check mine after every hard use only takes a few minutes lover mine effortless casting no birds nest and im using 14 lb test flourocarbon on mine
Q:
is this a good reel for catching human beings?
Answer: Hello buyer, this is a fishing reel.
Answer: I think they would put up a decent fight. You would want a good powerful line and the spool wouldn't hold much of it. Lol if you catch little people or elderly that would be best....
Answer: It will do the job, but your better off using the piscifun chaos 60. It will give you more torch pounds per pressure.
Q:
Is this a freshwater bass reel?
Answer: Yes.Bass are on the agenda with this reel. 20-30 lb braid. Get a good rod for it.
Answer: Yes it is a fresh water reel.
Answer: Yes. They make other reels for saltwater
Answer: It can be used for freshwater or saltwater
Answer: I would imagine so, I live in Colorado so I haven’t used mine quite yet.
Answer: Yes, well at least that's what I'm using it for.
Answer: yes.
Q:
Would anyone use this for catfishing? I have a 9 ft heavy action rippin lips rod
Answer: I think you are going to need a more heavy-duty reel for that kind of action.
Answer: Yes I’m sure it could be used as long as the fish didn’t weigh over 15 pounds
Q:

Answer: Metal with a high gloss paint
Q:
Any idea of how far and smooth it cast. (Also are there any other cheaper reels that u would suggest?)
Answer: I can cast further with this reel than with others I have had and it is very smooth. I have had more expensive and cheaper, none as good as this one.
Answer: this reel casts and feels like a more expensive one. great reel for the price.
Answer: It is very smooth and casts far. Distance depends on the user and style/length of rod.
Q:
Will you be restocking on left handed anytime soon?
Answer: Yes, the left handed will be available on July. It will take couple weeks.
Q:

Answer: Hello, Yes one of mine did too and it is from over oiling them. It is fine and should wear off in a few cast. : Used mine to catch 27 white bass yesterday. It held up great and is as smooth as ever. :
Answer: Didn't use mine yet.but l don't think it should leak
Q:
can this handle cranking 6 inch deep diving crank baits? im looking for a cheep reel that can handle larger baits?
Answer: Would it work? Yes. You would find it MUCH more comfortable to use a lower gear ratio reel 5.4/1 for the deep diving crankbaits.
Answer: I would say yes. I had a pretty heavy jig on it and it was not a problem. I have not tried larger than that yet, but I would bet it can.
Answer: All day. I lock the drag down for all fishing and use 50 lb. braid and drag them to the boat
Q:
Is it braided line ready?
Answer: You can put braid on. I usually back my reels with half cheap mono and half braid. Saves money and prevents slipping. Connect the 2 lines with a uni knot. I have had no issues
Answer: You can use braided line in it without having any problems.
Answer: Sure. Why not? Secure some line to the drum, and thread it through the eyelets of your rod. Your rod eyelets are going to be more critical for the line you might use than the reel.
Answer: Yes, I use 30 lb braid no problem
Answer: I just bought this reel just recently and I put 20lb braid on it and it's holding up fine. Yes I would think so.
Answer: This reel failed after 3 uses.
Answer: No
Q:
Is oil supplied?
Answer: No. There is no reel oil supplied.
Answer: Sorry Sir, we don't supply oil.
Answer: No but very easy to oil.
Answer: No. Buy Lucas reel oil
Answer: No it is not supplied.
Answer: No. And don't buy it planning on using in saltwater. Lasted a week.
Answer: No. You have to purchase some.
Answer: no
Answer: No!
Answer: No, at least I didn't get any. Still worth it
Q:
I will be mainly targeting bass, but will this be able to handle the occasional pike or striper?
Answer: I have used it this spring and caught many bass up to 5 lbs and so far am pleased with the product. I would think it would handle anything up to 10 lbs without an issue. Not sure yet about the long term durability.
Answer: I believe you will have no problems with this reel. I use my for mostly salt water targeting red and snook. I have boated a few nice reds over 33 inc. and over slot snook. I have two of these reels and will be ordering a few more.
Q:
Would it good for trolling
Answer: This reel is great for casting trolling flipping anything you want to do with it...………………..easy to use. Start out mag. drag tight and drag on handle side tight when reel stops when lure or bait hanging horizontal from rod hits the ground or water and adjust from there cast easy until you get use it. have fun. Good buy
Answer: i have 40lb braid on this reel and use it for jig set up with a med heavy rod and it can cast a jig and creature with no problem. the only issue I can see is the amount of line you need if you are trolling deep. Besides amount of line I would say yes
Answer: Should be fine for trolling
Answer: Sure , but it has a plastic body witch means the reel seat is plastic too , not my first choice ...
Answer: Yes
Q:
I bought one of these reels and it does not work, sounds like the bearings are no good. What can I do
Answer: Return for exchange. Piscifun has a really good customer service. You can even reach out to them by email and they will take care of you. I have both torrents the newer 7.1:1 and the older first generation 5.3:1 I have not had any issues with either one and I only salt water fish. Help this helps. Fish On
Answer: WHEN YOU SAY IT DOESN'T WORK WHAT DO YOU MEAN???
Answer: Send it back,Mine is super smooth.
Answer: send it back to amazon i have had no trouble with mine have i have caught 200 bass and no problems
Answer: I would send it back and have them to send you out another one
Q:
Does this need to be lubed before use or does it come pre oiled?
Answer: It come pre oiled. We suggest you just put a drop of oil to the bearings on the sideplate, spool shaft and the tension knob if you want to do that before using it.
Answer: It comes preoiled and works excellent right out of the box. I have 8 of them, the oldest just over a year old and have not had to oil as of yet. If you use it regularly I would oil every 3 to 4 months.
Answer: Mine felt like it needed a couple of drops when I unboxed it, once I did that it was definitely smoother. It's no big deal, pretty easy to do. This has turned out to be a great reel for the price.
Answer: Before you use it it's very important
Q:
Does the drag wheel click when adjusting it?
Answer: Yes it clicks and I will put this Reel Up against some of the higher Price ones on the market Haven’t had it very long Less than a year but holding up very well use it in salt water Only time will tell how long it will hold up
Answer: Yes it does click and so does the spoil tension knob and the brake adjustment
Answer: Yes
Q:
Is the torrent kinda big
Answer: I am no the one that uses, it so my opinion may not be what you are looking for... but My son, whom I bought it for, said it was extremely high quality and works better than several of the more expensive reels he has purchased.
Answer: It is average size.
Q:
i did not receive a owner, operations manual with the reel can you send it to m
Answer: I just received this reel myself. It comes with a parts diagram and a small tool, but no instruction manual. If you have a question about it's operation please post it here.

Answer: I didn't get one .
Q:

Answer: I dont know all I know is it made noise when I casted and I sent it back
Answer: China
Q:
I bought my reel and when i pull drag on it, it doesn't make a sound like all other baitcasters i've tried. is this normal or is mine broken? thanks
Answer: Really never noticed any sounds with the drag pull on any of my baitcasters. Don't think it's broke.
Q:
How long does shipping usually take? I ordered my reel almost a week ago and it hasn’t shipped yet.
Answer: 2 days for me
Q:
Just got my torrent piscifun baitcaster reel! quick question, when pick up the bale and start reeling in, am i suppose to hear a second clicking soun?
Answer: When you press the release for the cast you’ll hear the click. When you begin your retrieve you will hear a click when the release resets. That’s it. No sounds coming from the reel until the time comes when you’ll know it is time for oil or cleaning.
Answer: I don’t have my reel in hand at the moment but do not recall there being but the one click sound. Sorry, I know that isn’t much help.
EGReviews : Felt nice and light weight but constant bird nests
I purchased this to replace an older bait caster for an upcoming fishing trip.
Pro’s; It comes in really nice packaging and with an adjustment/installation tool.
The reel is very sleek and leightweight. The balance is very nice.
The adjustment options are easy to turn and fast to change.
Cons; No matter what I did or how I adjusted this reel it always threw a birds nest. This was even after calibrating it per the instructions.
After calibrating so birds nests stopped any lure I threw would go maybe 25 feet. I could hardly cast. So I dialed it back very slightly, re-cast and the lure went maybe 40 or 50 feet. I was very happy, then looked down and had the worst birds nest I’ve ever had. It was so bad I would have had to cut all the line out. I took the reel off, logged into amazon and requested a return. I wanted really badly to like this reel but I just couldn’t get it to function properly.
Christopher : Okay reel, for the price, I was hoping for a little better quality.
Had the reel for a few months now. It's starting to make some noise of rubbing. I fish alot with other medium to high ends reels and rods for freshwater and saltwater fishing. I was hoping to find a reel that would stay smooth when casting. If you want a low end reel for a great price, I would purchase the Royal legend from Kastking. I own 2 and have had them for 2 and 3 years. Never needed to take them apart and clean them and they work well in saltwater as long as you rinse them off afterwards.
4knobs : Great Reel
This has exceeded my expectations. I am in the process of switching from spinning reels to bait-casting. I wanted to try a few of the reels in the $40 price range so I purchased this reel in addition to the Kast King Royal Legend, Sougayilang and Abu Garcia BMAX. They all have good reviews. Out of the four, this was my favorite (by a slight edge over the Kast King). It was easy to cast and only had minor birds nests while adjust in the AM. I really like that the drag and brake adjusters click when moved. If you accidentally hit it, you hear it. Also the casting is outstanding. My son commented at the end of the day, I looked like I had been using it for years. I like it so much, I purchased the matching pole and a second matching compo.
FYI I did like the Kast King and Abu Bmax, the Sougayilang was returned.
Nelson M. : Solid for under $40
Product comes safely package. Feels nice when you reel in. Construction feels solid. Also comes with a flat head screw and her wrench tool. I thought that it would come with a bottle of reel oil since the manufacturer made it a point to show a picture of how to oil the reel. No big deal, I'm just being finicky at this point. I'll pick some up for $3. Other than that, it seems great for the price. Needed one to take with me for travel when I'm working and the price was right. Can't really complain for under $40. Had it spooled now its really to go!

DNRogers : Works way better than you would think for the price!
Just as others have mentioned, it does need a dab of oil before you use it - put a few drops in through the convenient screw cap and you are good to go! I have fished several weeks with a couple of these, and I will be getting more in the future. I put these against my Abu Garcia Pro Max reel, and they actually perform a bit better than the Abu with some of my lighter cranks, and definitely just as good with the rest of my lures. My Abu is a bit more low profile and fits my hand better, but these are definitely not bad at all. You can almost get 3 of these for the price of my Pro Max. My only complaint is the thumb bar sits pretty high compared even to my traditional profile Abu. Bring that thumb bar down a little and I’m sold on these all day long.
bass-fish-37 : Good/quick replacement/affordable
I bought this to get me through the rest of the year. I have had it over a week or so now and have caught several fish with it. I have 30 lb braid on it. I’m impressed with the drag system, it’s really strong. I can cast it pretty far also. I have had a few backlashes (my own fault) but they came out pretty quick. Seems like a good reel for the money. If you’re tight on money and looking for a deal this is it. I bought it to replace a jig and worm reel I blew out unexpectedly. It does make a squealing noise when I cast, But if it lasts a year minimum I will be satisfied. Will update post if needed.
Tyler Davis : It casted like a breeze
I decided I wanted to make the switch from right hand retrieve reels to left. I found that Piscifun has a lineup of reels that made this switch both affordable and enjoyable. I put the torrent on my 7'6 MH as a dual purpose flipping rod and frog rod. Spooled it up with some 50lb braid and did some test casting yesterday. It casted like a breeze! I had it dialed in easily and not one single birds nest. For frogging I get the tension knob and brakes tuned just right where I don't have to touch the spool and I get no backlash and plenty of casting distance. I tied on one of my flipping rigs and loosened all the tension and brakes up and did some pitching and it worked beautifully. My favorite part about these reel is the spool tension knob clicks with adjustment! This is a great reel for the price hands down! Hey and its a pretty good looking reel to boot!
Cody : 1st baitcaster rell
I'm not an avid fisher but I go out a few times in the summer. I've only ever used spincasters before so this is my 1st baitcasting reel so I dont have any thing to compare ot to. It was really easy to set up and start using. i was casting 30yrds or more with in a few tries. The directions said to set the brake to 7 or 8 for beginners. After a few casts at that setting I was able to progressively dial it down to 3 before I started getting some backlash. 5 is a good setting for me. Glad I took a chance on this reel.
Kenny : It’s okay!!
So the reviews on here ain’t no lie this thing dose sling pretty good if your a beginning to use bait casters this is my first one been using it for a bit now and probably the. First 15 cast using it started screaming for help!! The brakes start to make a wired sound like someon els comment about I’ve oil this bad boy up and still dose it so I just use it as is bc I’ve alrady bought 4-5 more bait casters this one just sits in the truck of my car when I’m out and about and see a candy store
UnknownCuber : Great first baitcaster so far!
Wanting a first baitcaster, after fishing for the last 10 years with spinning reels only, and not having the funds for an $80+ reel, led me to budget options. After researching many different reels (Abu Garcia BlackMax, KastKing Royale Legend, etc), I decided to purchase this reel along with a Piscifun Torrent 6'6" MH rod. I ordered 10lb Sufix 832 braided line to spool on. I also ordered some PENN reel oil and grease. Upon receiving the rod, reel, PENN products, and line I immediately oiled and greased the reel. While this was a bit tricky (possibly due to it being my first time handling a baitcaster), I eased my way along and eventually was able to grease the main gear and carbon fiber drag washers, as well as oil the bearings and other moving parts. I utilized the mechanism diagram provided with the reel to ensure proper reassembly. The next day I was able to spool the reel with my braided line. After some trial and error I was able to tie an arbor knot to hold the line on the spool, along with some tape on the knot to ensure there isn't any slippage of the line. I then began spooling by holding the line approximately 8 inches away from, but straight in front of, the reel (the reel was connected to the rod, so 8 inches straight down the rod). I believe I failed to hold the line tight enough while spooling, more on that later. I also had some issues with uneven spooling (more line on the left side of the spool than the right). I left the line unevenly spooled, not knowing any better. After tying my 3 foot flourocarbon leader to the end of the braid and my hook/weight to the end of the leader, I walked out to the pond. After some few minutes of trial and error adjusting the spool tension and brakes, I was able to cast fairly well. Over a couple dozen casts I gradually loosened the brakes to gain more distance. All was well, a backlash here and there due to my inexperience. At the end of my fishing day, with no fish caught or hooked, I was very satisfied with this reel. After a few walks down to the pond and fishing for a couple hours each time, I am still satisfied and enjoy fishing with this reel (even though I've yet to catch anything, not the reels fault however). Now about the uneven spooling: It was my fault. Earlier today before heading out to the pond, I decided to re-spool the reel in hopes of solving the unevenness. Thankfully I was successful. I believe the initial unevenness was due to me holding the reel at a slight angle while reeling, I also had the drag loose and the brakes all the way up. The second time re-spooling I made sure to set the drag as tight as possible and the brakes all the way up, as well as hold the reel straight. After spooling, I went out and the first cast the lure went out about 6 feet and stopped dead in its tracks. After inspecting the reel and the spool, I realized the line wasn't spooled very well (too loose you could say). I suppose I didn't hold the line tight enough when I re-spooled, which I thought about while re-spooling funny enough. Right there at the pond I pulled all the line out. After five minutes of pulling, all the line was free from the spool, and I began re-spooling, making sure to set the drag and brakes tight as well as hold the reel straight and keep the line nice and tight. This time I think I got it right. The line is tight and even on the spool, resulting in smooth casts and easier use. Using a spinner bait this time, I had to set the spool tension and brakes different which took some trial and error (due to my inexperience). I remember on a review video I watched before purchasing the reel, there was a complaint about the size of the reel and being unable to palm it comfortably, as well as a complaint about the push button on the bottom of the reel at the brake side (used to remove the side plate). I found the reel to fit very well in my hand, while palming the reel it felt like a good size and I had no issue holding it (my hands are not large at all, approximately 7 1/4 inches from tip of middle finger to bottom of palm). The other complaint was the bottom button dug into the reviewers hand while palming. Thankfully I have had no issue whatsoever with this, it's possible I palm the reel differently than the reviewer did or Piscifun has updated the design since that review was made. You can view the pictures I've posted with my review to see how the reel looks in my hand. Overall, this reel is well made and casts great; however, as I've said, I've yet to reel in a fish (I may update the review later after catching some). If you're looking for a first baitcaster, I'd definitely recommend the Piscifun Torrent.
Edit: I have now fished with this reel for just under a month, and I have to say it's great. Having only reeled in 10-15 small bass, I can't speak to it's durability confidently, but it seems to be holding up so far. This has been a great baitcaster to learn on and I'm finally getting the hang of it. Would definitely recommend this reel to anyone looking for a budget baitcaster.
Also: I ended up switching from the braid to some Seaguar Invizx 100% fluorocarbon and it has made a world of difference in my ability to cast.
Robert M. Cunningham : line guide is defective
The line guide works on retrieval, but not when casting. I have submitted a message supplier, awaiting response. I will update when appropriate.
The compay got back in touch with me and helped me to my satisfaction.
It appears my assumption that the line guide was not working properly was incorrect. The line guide is working as designed.
R Dean : What GREAT BANG for the buck
Got this baitcaster, spooled it up with 20lb braid went out in the yard, set up my 1oz test lead sinker gave a good harder cast and had to put my thumb on the spool cause it was heading over the fence into the woods and trees. I didn't expect it to go that far. So moved to another spot to cast further and the Piscifun Torrent did a great job! I had a little backlash that was quickly solved with a little adjustment on the magnet.Took it fishing in one of favorite saltwater snook spots and landed 2 (under size) snooks. What a great reel. I'm fairly new to baitcasters (been fishing with spinning reels for the fifth of forever) so it's was nice to get the Piscifun Torrent as my first entry into using a baitcasting reel in my saltwater adventures. I'm so pleased with the Torrent that I'm saving up for the Piscifun Phantom! I'm retired on a fixed income and it's nice to get a GREAT BANG for my fishing buck. Keep up the good work Piscifun
cloudwalker : It's 9/9/2020, and this reel is shot.
Started out good, now sounds like it has sand in it. 12 lb test line gets caught between the spool and the reel casing. Now the push down bar wont push down most of the time , have to crank it around to find a spot where it will work. I got one at a slower speed, and it's not having any problems, yet.....get what you pay for, I guess.
josh hampton : Try it out.
Worth every bit of the $40. Replaced bass pro tourney baitcaster. Drag is nice and solid and the brake works well. Good handle but one of the anodized screws backed out and almost lost it. I have backlashed it a couple of times but nothing more than a couple rolls of the drum my fault. I am running cheap 15lb mono on it and it works well. I have used it probably a total of 4 or 5 hours. The drum bound up one time not bad but was noticeably tight. I loosened everything and readjusted and haven’t had a problem since. I gave 5 stars because of value. Update 6 months of good use and zero issues. 2 saltwater trips on it and the thing just keeps performing. I have it paired with the 6'6" H2o express rod from academy $14. Literally have about $50 in the rig and it is my favorite setup. You can throw weightless plastics or rig up a 1oz high low rig for pier fishing and it handles it all and lightweight package. After over a year of abuse it finally started giving some trouble. Lots of vibration when reeling but stills cast smoothly. I have used this thing in salt and fresh water a ton but its time for a new one. Got it on an ugly stik GX2 currently.
DavidR : From a Beginner, Was happy but having problems!!!
After reading all the reviews, I pulled the trigger on this reel and couldn't be happier. I'm a beginner baitcaster so I'm sure there's a lot for me to learn. But this reel seems very forgiving after setting the drag and brakes properly. For comparison, I also own the Abu Garcia Silver Max, which is also a very impressive reel(maybe slightly smoother casting). But for the price, this Torrent is great. The oil port makes maintenance so easy. I bought a second one and paired both with Torrent rods(M for spinners and cranks and MH for top water and jigs). I love both combos! NOTE: Oil properly before using! Will be noisy before oiling!! UPDATE: Fished today(9/13/20) and one of my Torrents is making terrible noise, the grinding that others have mentioned. Can feel it in the handle when reeling. Also had 2 casts snag in mid flight, just stopped dead, checked line and spool, didn't see why. Maybe the line snagged between the spool and housing, like others mentioned as well. Will oil and let you know. Dropped from 5 to 3 stars.
Thomas J Buzalewski : Save your money - poor engineering and poor craftsmanship
I have had this reel since May and have used it about 12 times. Not worth the money. Save yours and buy a Shimano or Daiwa. First off when I cast the thing whines very annoyingly. I have never had a bait casting reel do that. I thought maybe it just needs breaking in. Nah still whines. I have just gotten used to it. Now today I am fishing and the main crank handles is wobbly as heck and the drag all of a sudden is way to low. Lost two fish before I figured out what was going on. I went back home and there is a bunch of slip in the drive team. I can’t tighten it up. This is going in the trash. I will gladly pay more for better quality. You get what you pay for.
Miguel : Broke after 2 uses and in a 6 day span (GARBAGE)
Have been using an Abu Garcia Black Max for 3 years. Never once let me down until Nov 6 when the anti reverse failed. I chunked it. I immediately got on Amazon and looked for a similarly priced reel with good reviews. I was hesitant to purchase this reel due to many saying the reel developed a loud sound and the gears would grind. Despite this I went ahead and ordered the reel along with some grease and oil to try and prevent such things from happening to mine. The reel delivered Friday Nov 8. I spooled it up with fluro 2 days later Nov 10. I took it out on Mon Nov 11 for a test on the lake. I immediately noticed that the lever that you have to press to open the side of the reel sits DIRECTLY in the path of where your pointer finger is. If you’re like me I like to keep my pointer finger on my line as I’m fishing to feel for bites. This lever gets in the way and feels like you could accidently press while casting and lose the cover. I told myself I could let that slide. Today, Thursday Nov 14 I returned to the water to see if I could get any bites. Within 10 min of me casting a swim jig the reel started making this LOUD whistling sound (similar to what a Shimano Curdao DC sounds like)(I have one of those as well). This sound is not normal. The reel also began to cause the line to reel uneven back onto the spool. Something internally seemed to have broken. I made all kinds of adjustments to both brakes to attempt to resolve the issue but the reel is TOAST. Thats TWICE I have used it in the 6 days that I have owned it and it is already broken. What a POS this reel is. Unacceptable and will request a refund after I submit this review. I will have to take the loss of $18 worth of fluro that I already have spooled on the reel.
UPDATE 03/19/20- Have caught about 8 bass off of this reel since buying it. It is making a LOUD screaming sound with every cast. I cleaned and oiled thoroughly last night with hopes of improvement. Took it out tonight with no luck of improvement. I am going to reach out to the company to see how they can help.
Update 03/26/20- A Piscifun rep emailed me stating that the reel is out of the Amazon return window and the only way they could help would have me purchase ANOTHER REEL from Amazon at regular price. What a let down. DO NOT BUY THIS JUNK. I will throw this in the trash because it no longer casts.
Jordan : Good beginner baitcaster
I purchased this reel August 2018 and was (am) very new to baitcaster reels. I've used it a bunch for saltwater fishing and has held up great on that end, no corrosion and still smooth with retrieving. When I first started, I got bird nest like crazy, but that wasn't the reels fault, it was due to my inexperience. A few tutorials and practice later, and I barely get them anymore. The only complaint I have about this reel is it's become very noisy when casting and it's not as smooth with casting anymore. I've played with the magnetic brakes on it and whenever I cast, it makes a very loud noise when casting and I feel like something is causing it to lose distance as well. Not sure what would have caused it, (haven't dunked it and I wash it with fresh water after each trip, so I don't feel like it's corrosion). Other than that, I feel like it's a great beginner's reel and very forgiving when learning. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone looking to buy, but maybe considering upgrading (like I currently am) if you start to have the same problem as I do.
Amazon Customer : Good reel for 40.00
I have been bass fishing/ tournament fishing for over 40 years. I fish with mostly shimano reels curado etc. When I saw this reel on Amazon it looked pretty good and had a lot of good ratings I've never had good luck with cheap baitcasting reels in years gone by, but, I was in need of another baitcaster to go along with my arsenal so I thought I'll try it for 40.00 not much to loose. It turned out to be a very good reel. It's not a shimano curado or chronarch and I'm not going to tell you it's as good it's because it's not. However it's a really good solid reel if you're in need of a baitcaster especially for the price. It cast well it's smooth and very usable. I've used it for crank baits, jigs etc. and I'm very satisfied. It's definitely the best 40.00 reel I've ever used hands down. Technology is so good today even a cheaper real like this is good. I probably will get another one or two. Good reel I don't think you would be disappointed with it.
K. Murray : Perfect Beginner's Reel at a Low Cost
This is the first brand new baitcasting reel I've ever purchased. I own a few older hand-me-downs/garage sale reels and have had a hard time consistently casting without backlashes. I had pretty much given up on ever using a baitcasting reel. This was inexpensive enough that I took a chance on it, and bought some practice plug lures and spent a couple of hours in the backyard getting familiar with it. I took it on a four-day canoe fishing trip last week in the Boundary Waters and was able to catch a lot of smallmouth bass and northern pike on it. I started out with the magnetic brake set at 10 and the spool tension knob as far as it would go.
Every time I put a new lure on, I would slowly back off the tension knob until the lure would fall into the water and the spool would stop letting out line. The clicks on the tension knob (and on the drag too) helped a ton. From there I could play with the magnetic brake and tension knob, slowly backing them off until I could get longer and more accurate casts. By the end of the trip, I was comfortable enough with it to back the brake and spool tension knob way off (I set the magnetic brake around 5-6) and just use my thumb to get long and (somewhat) accurate casts without backlashes. If you're new to baitcasting reels and don't want to spend a ton of money, buy this reel!
Amazon Customer : I either recieved a lemon or the reel is just poor quality.
I have never written a review for amazon before, but I was so incredibly disappointed by this reel, I felt compelled to. Initially I was VERY excited to get this reel. I had seen countless YouTube reviews and everyone said that the Torrent was the “best for the money” after ONE use, I realize this just isn’t the case. The reel I received was amazing when I first opened up the packaging, but once I was on the water, after two casts something clicked very loudly in the reel and rendered the whole thing useless. Drag wasn’t working, the spool wouldn’t spin when the handle was turned. Basically entirely useless. Not even a fishing reel at that point. It was never dropped or hit against anything. Spoiling up this reel with braid and mono was an absolute waste of expensive line which turned a $40 reel into a $60 one. Maybe I recieved a one-off or a fluke because many other people say that this is a reliable reel. I was actually planning on making my first YouTube video featuring the reel and actually try hard on it (as most of the videos on this reel don’t really do it justice) and I have been making films for 3 years so I felt like I had the ability to do it. I have seen piscifun’s customer service with other people and all has been positive. I love a company that stands behind their products. Like I said, maybe I recieved a lemon and I would be happy to give piscifun another chance, but not on my own dime. As of now I am planning on returning the reel and going with another company unless Piscifun steps in.
Eric valadez : Was perfect the first...
Was perfect for the first few cast than after about an hr of casting the reel started to click now when i cast the reel clicks and handle spins. Thought this was the reel for me even put new spiderwire on the reel so thats a waste as well.
Paul Elisha : Awesome reel. Best bang for your buck
I’ve waited till I got some use on this reel to write a reviews and I must say. Best reel out there for the price. I’ve compared this reel to my Abu garcia black max which falls in sameness price range and this reel is 100 x better. The start drag clicks and spool tensioner knob also. It’s smooth and performs awesome. I will say tho does need some lube right out the box. This reel should be priced way more considering it has features that some $150+ reels don’t have. I’ve already caught a hand full of large bass with it.
Update 11-1-18 Fishing reel still works great. Have had intermittent issues with the thumb button no locking the spool back up after making a cast at times. I contacted piscifun to see if this was a known issue. They asked me for a video . I never got back to them. Problem has not happened since I opened up the reel and serviced it. For this reason I changed my rating to 4 stars. Still a great quality reel.
cloudwalker : It's 9/9/2020, and this reel is shot.

BayWolf : Way more reel than you pay for!
I purchased this reel based on the need for a compact, level wind that I can use on ultralight trolling rods for trout. Out of the box, the fit and finish are amazing. I've been using higher priced reels and this one rates right up there with the best. On the water, it is smooth and the click/adjust drag is perfect for setting the drag to...click, click...just...click...right! The retrieve is fast, yet the radius of the handle allows you to finesse a determined fighter without the worry of pulling the hook. This reel is my new favorite and will get lots of use. I will try it out on the Silver Salmon this year when they arrive and will give a report then. Until then, you can't go wrong with this excellent reel.
J. Hancock : Worth every penny and then some!
I've never used a baitcaster before and couldn't justify spending hundreds on a new reel so I picked this one based on the Amazon reviews and reviews on youtube. I was impresed with the fact that all the negative reviews had a response from Piscifun. This is an awesome reel and I gotta say I would definitely recommend this to people just starting out or on a budget. I mounted it on an ugly stik gx2 medium heavy fast action rod and it is an awesome combination. Attached is a photo of a 4.5 to 5 pound bass I caught on my fourth cast with this reel. Will definitely be buying more Piscifun products.
W. Doxtater : Worked perfect first try
Long term use is untested, but my first time out was amazing. This will be used for saltwater, and I have my doubts about how long it will last, but I am impressed so far. Out of the box it is impressive - very smooth action, although there are a few sharp edges. The quality seems good, but not as good as a $150 Shimano or a $90 Bass Pro Shops brand. I put 50lb (12lb equivalent) braided line on it, and it casted twice as far as my Bass Pro Shops reel (not new and clean and with old monofilament, however). I will have to clean and refresh my other two reels for a good comparison. With this reel, brand new, with new braided line, I was casting farther than with any reel before that I can recall. On this day, with this setup, I landed every fish, which included a 28" redfish, my biggest ever, and a 4.5ft long alligator gar. Also, even more impressive, I was frequently casting into the wind with a 1/4oz lure with not a single backlash. Now, if it lasts at least a year, with no corrosion issues, I will be buying a few more. This appears to be a great low cost reel, not only for the experience angler, but a really nice first reel for a kid - just in time for Christmas!
Michael Dunn : One of the best reels I’ve ever fished with...period!!
Let me start by saying that I’ve been fishing for over 40 years and I have never used a reel less than $150. I was always told that you have to spend a lot of money on your fishing rods and reels. As you can see by the pictures I have about 12 bait casters and 5 or 6 spinning reels. I’ve always been a Daiwa and Shimano person. Well, those days are over. I mostly fish for bass in freshwater and 6 or 7 times a year in saltwater. I read some of the older reviews about “cheaper” reels and people were saying, “when they break just throw them away and buy another one”. That has not happened to me yet. A few of my more expensive reels have had issues and I have never had an issue with the Torrents. I have 6 of them now and I’m slowly replacing all of my other reels with the Torrent. Once in a blue moon I will get a backlash and this reel is so smooth and also has a great drag system on it. I let my buddies use them and they are blown away when I tell them that I pay about $40 for these. I highly recommend them to anyone. My wife and my kids are part-timers and when they use these reels, they hardly ever get a backlash. By the way, I pair these up with the Carbon light 2.0 rods from Bass Pro shops. Good luck!
L. A. Gliba : The Torrent Is An Awesome Reel!
I love this reel, super smooth, casts great excellent value and very durable. Got to fish it today and I can say with confidence you won't be disappointed with the performance. The 6 bearings are super smooth and the 18lb drag has no slip when you crank it down. The individual click on the spool tension adjustment is a feature you usually see on higher priced reels. The features they packed inot a inexpensive reel are amazing. Watch the video to see my thoughts, casting, and catching a fish!
OnlyJuan : Durabiltiy is not good. It will probably last less than a year before you start having issues.
Love my reel.. Its very smooth. Feels good in the hands.(edit) having the reel for just less than a year I am dropping my 5 star rating. The reel does work but it starting making this grinding noise when i reel. I opened it up to grease and lube the reel and there is rust in the reel. Why I have no idea.? Never opened it before. Never used it for saltwater. Well I cleaned it out and it someone smooth but the grinding noise was only minimized.
Michael Knaub : Impressed
I am impressed with this reel,. First I never used a baitcaster reel in my life, have always been a spinning reel user so I was a little worried but this thing has performed beautifully and is easy to cast and use. I was worried about all the back lash you hear about with this type reel but I have not had any problems with it. Just familiarize yourself with it's operation and go. It is Super Smooth and I really like that, drag is a star type and works excellent. All controls have a very fine "click" adjust which makes it feel more expensive than it is. I had one problem, the nut on the handle came loose and I lost my handle but I contacted customer service and they immediately sent out a new handle and nut, very fast. This company is very concerned about their customer satisfaction which is rare these day. The people who run the company are genuinely nice people and will do anything to help. I am very satisfied with my purchase. For the price point you can't go wrong. I will use this companies products again as their price and quality meets or exceeds most others selling similar equipment.
Amazon Customer : Fantastic Bait Casting Reel for the Money
I needed another bait casting reel for an up coming fishing trip. I searched many websites for an affordable bait casting reel. Read all the reviews and comments. After much consideration, I purchased this bait casting reel. When it arrived I could not believe how light it was and how well made it was for the money. When a started using it the reel exceed all of my expectations. I could cast it a long ways with fluorocarbon line, 17lb test. I paid much more for name brand reels, but honestly, after using this bait casting reel, they are not worth the higher price. I found this Bait casting reel to be fantastic for the money! you will be very happy with Piscifun Torrent Baitcasting Reel. I'm going to buy 2 more and replace my older, and much heavier models.
Rancher1 : Awesome!!!!!
Truly surprised at the quality and performance of this reel at this price point. Extremely smooth, much better than the name brand reel that I have used exclusively for decades with good communication through the reel itself which is wonderful. Lightweight, nice looking and was able to fine tune it in about six casts. No birdnests after about an hour of throwing. You will love the ability to oil the internal gears by removing one screw without having to open up the reel. 7-1 ratio proved to be an all around good balance for whatever bait you use. Well constructed low profile with long longer handles for additional power when needed. So far, very happy with this reel. Unable to comment on longevity yet but in hopes I will be able to wear it out!
Robert M. Cunningham : line guide is defective

Dustin M. : Learned my lesson, wouldn't recommend this one
I've been using casting reels for many, many years. I have never, in my life, fought a reel as much as this one. I used a line spooling station to load the spool. It is basically in a constant state of backlash. I finally gave up on it and bought a new Shimano SLX and guess what, no more backlashes. I can't understand all of the positive reviews on this reel, I've got some cheap-o Walmart casters that are better than this one
Amazon Customer : My first baitcaster
After shopping for a baitcaster, I decided to try the new Piscifun Torrent. This is my first baitcaster and surprisingly easy to use. I practiced a few cast and did not have a rats nedt until I got a little too confident and backed off the tension setting, lol. Overall I love the look, feel, and smooth action of the reel. The Torrent seems like a quality product. I am very satisfied with my purchase and would recommend.
casey weldon : Needs improvement.
I purchased 2 of these to temporarily be used on some new rods i had purchased until i could justify spending more money on higher end reels. After unboxing i found that the reels did have a cheap feel which was to be expected with a 40$ reel. Both were spooled with 12LB floro and put into service. The brake systems on these reels are not the greatest but do work. I have now used these reels on 3 outings. The first outing both reels performed well and were generally smooth casting and decent distance for the money. The second trip out one reel started schreeching when casting and lost much of the smoothness it previously had. The 2nd reel was not far behind the first and has started clicking when line is pulled off the spool. I thought this was possibly a lubrication issue so i oiled the reels and took them out on the 3rd trip with no difference. If these problems could be resolved with these reels they would be a great entry level baitcaster, but until then i would spend my money on a lower end name brand item that will last significantly longer.
Jmgarcia : Amazing product at a very affordable price!
So glad I bought this reel ,very high quality at a very low and affordable price. I honestly bought this reel as a travel setup. A beater to keep in my truck with a two piece rod for when I happened to get off work early and I can hit up the water in a second. This thing exceeded All my expectations to the point where I cannot follow my own plan I would feel very bad if this thing was taken for my truck. A very smooth casting reel that can very easily be compared to a Shimano or Abu Garcia.
Andrew Sho Wolf : Comparing to my Black Max, Honest Truth
Just received my first Piscifun reel after seeing multiple reviews on YouTube and reading reviews on Amazon most being positive. After unboxing and comparing it to my Abu Garcia Black Max newest Gen (which I abused and is still going strong). There are three things about the Torrent I already like better first, the thumb bar being metal. Second, the cranking handle is larger so more leverage for when fighting bigger and stronger fish and three which is not so important but the tension knob which clicks (was surprised for a $40 reel). It’s not loud & precise as the star drag which has a vary satisfying loud click. (Black Max tension knob nor the star drag clicks...) The Reel also has a faster gear Ratio so that’s a plus (7.1:1) (Black Max 6.4:1). The Grips on the cranking handle are EVA material and feels exactly like on a EVA rod grips (Black Max has these rubber grippy/feeling plastic grips with slight holes which I don’t mind). I might end up preferring the EVA’s grips better and I am starting to grow in to them. The only thing I do like about my Black Max is that it’s more compact/lower profile and is not as bulky but I guess beggars can’t be choosers and in the end what really matters is Performance and Reliability of the reel itself. Also Black Max does feel slightly lighter then the Torrent. At first I was gonna get the Piscifun Phantom (Green color 1st Gen.) because of Dual Centrifugal brakes system which the Torrent doesn’t have but because of the lower price (about the same price as Black Max) I couldn't resist and I ended up buying the Torrent instead. I also kept hearing people saying these things cast like a mile so that is another reason why I went with the Torrent. Now it’s up to how will it’ll perform out on waters. I’m hoping it’ll perform as good if not better then my Black Max and I will be writing an updated review of results and comparison of if it does indeed out perform my Black Max and ends up being my new favorite Reel I might as will buy and try the Phantom but first we shall see.. The Only reason why I gave it a 4 star is because the reel came with hardly any lubercation and it needs to be broken down greased and oiled up before use! Very important. I also heard people having drag issues to where it slips so that might be the cause it... All in all very satisfied????
SBN Codey : Works OK but quality suffers when adjusting
I've got this set up on a Lew's Speed Stick Worm and Jig 7' Rod, spooled with 20lb monofil. I fish for bass on freshwater. I bought this reel on recommendation of a YouTuber called "Jiggin with Jordan."
The Torrent is pretty nice and casts OK. The main complaint I have is that the spool tension knob doesn't click well when it gets tightened down. On looser settings, it clicks once every quarter turn or so, but when getting tighter, it clicks once every 1/3 to 1/2 turn. This is only with a 3/8oz worm jig. I'm worried about putting a heavier lure on it since the settings are so mushy.
I've run topwater frogs, worm jigs, and shakey-heads: Basically anything with more than 1/4oz weight.
If I were to purchase another $40 reel I'd get the Abu Garcia BMAX instead since I can get those from Wal-Mart, and since I can return it for free if there are defects.
Roberto : Some quality issues, I had to buy 3 to get a good one. Not as good as Cadence CB6 for same $
In a search for the best baitcasting reel for around $40 I purchased a Piscifun Torrent and a Cadence CB6. No one gave me a reel (or a discount) or influenced my opinion in any way and I am being completely honest. I do not have a YouTube channel or need sponsors! I am just a guy who likes fishing. In my opinion, right out of the box the Cadence seemed to have better build quality and feel. It felt very smooth, functioned perfectly and spooled the line perfectly. I did not have to send it back because of defects. The first Piscifun Torrent I ordered had a rubbing sound around the shaft when cranking and the knobs on the handle felt rough when spinning. I returned it for another. The second torrent had a misaligned spool and all the line built up on one side of the spool in a lopsided wedge. Also a gap between the spool and body kept catching the line while spooling. Ok, that one was also returned as defective. Third time is the charm. The third one felt very smooth. It spun and functioned correctly and the line was only slightly lopsided when spooling but was acceptable.
For comparison both reels were loaded with 15 lb test Spiderwire braid. I mounted them on identical 6'6" Daiwa rods, tied on identical swivels, and set up both reels to cast the same 1/8 oz. Beetle Spin grub and headed out to the dock. I set both reels to optimize casting the Beetle Spin without backlashing both under condition of "no thumb" and also with normal use using the thumb a bit to stop rotation as the bait hits the water. Both reels have clicks to adjust the drags and adjusted easily, however the Min and Max arrows on the Cadence magnetic drag were a bit difficult to see vs. the Torrent's numbers.
However the real differences became apparent in casting them side by side with the same line and same lure. The cadence was lighter, smaller, and in every situation it outcast the Piscifun torrent when they were optimized to the same line and bait, especially under normal use when using the thumb when the bait hits the water. In my hands the difference was typically about 8-10 feet. Also the Torrent tended to bird's nest more often than the Cadence, during testing, about 3:1. Once set up, the Cadence did not really birds nest easily.
Now do not misunderstand, I feel the the Piscifun Torrent is an amazing value at roughly $5 more than a Zebco 33 platinum at Wallmart, and a really good functioning baitcasting reel, but for about $5 difference I felt the Cadence CB6 was noticeably the better reel when tested head-to-head. I will be keeping both and I feel both are excellent choices for a high performing baitcaster in the $40 range.
MrMurgle : First baitcaster reel
I bought this one because of the amount of reviews it had. I paired it up with a Shakespeare rod (literally a 11$ rod) and so far I love it. I loaded about 90yds of 30lb braid and about 30yds of 15lb fluorocarbon topshot. Works great. A bit of advice is to reset your settings whenever you make a change to your lure. I made that mistake and ended up with a massive ratsnest that took me a while to fix. Will update review when I have more experience with it.
UPDATE: now that I've been casting more with it, I've gotten a bit cocky with it. I've loosened the settings for max distance, but if I mess up I'll get a massive nest. MAKE SURE YOU BACK OFF THE DRAG AND MAGNET SETTINGS WHILE IN STORAGE. First bass ever was caught with this reel and I'll probably buy another one in a week or two.
Clayton : EASY SETUP - QUICK TO FISHING
THIS REAL IS AWESOME FOR THE MONEY! I HAVE FISHED REELS OF MY FREINDS THAT COST MUCH MORE THAN THIS AND I COULDN'T GET NEAR THE SAME DISTANCE. THIS REEL IS GREAT TO SETUP AND YOU CAN GET THAT LURE TO WATER QUICKLY. I AM NEW TO THIS STYLE OF FISHING SO NO GREAT STORIES YET, BUT NOW MY LIMITING FACTOR IS KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL. BEING ABLE TO QUICKLY LUBE AND MAINTAIN THIS IS A GREAT FEATURE THAT I NEVER KNEW WOULD BE NEEDED, BUT ONE DROP IN THE SAND OR JUST CLEANING THE POND SCUM OUT OF IT IS GREAT!
GLAD I GRABBED THIS WHEN I SAW IT. SHOULD BE A GOOD YEAR TO LEARN HOW TO USE IT BETTER AND RIP SOME LIPS!
Warhawk : Decent reel for the price, not a show stopper.
It's a solid casting reel, everything turns smooth and silent. A little more difficult to break apart to grease the inner bearings which were pretty dry. I bought it cause I liked the idea of the oil fill inlet to keep everything lubed over time without tearing it down repeatedly; however I found quickly that it's not a sealed resevoir as reelbutter spewed all over my tabletop. First day out fishing used an assortment of various weight lures and a couple of jigs. Birdnested a couple times worse than any other baitcast reel i've ever used and it's slightly heavier than my other reels. After a few hours my hand was starting to cramp from one hand casting with this one. While some of these items are based on personal preference, given the non-sealed oil reservoir and birdnesting I give it a 3 star. If your not experienced with baitcast reels, I would not recommend this to new comers.
The line guide is working as designed.
tdab : Piscifun Torrent Baitcasting Reel
Great reel for the money. Just got this recently (left hand retrieve) and I am amazed how good it casts even with smaller weight baits. Been fishing with it in my lake 4-5 times and have not even come close to a backlash even once. Nice and smooth. Not sure about longevity but right out of the box for performance this is better than the Abu's (black max models) and Kast Kings I have been using for a few years. Those reels are ok but it seems like your margin for error is much lower on those. With this one your forget about backlash and just keep heaving it. The 7.1 to 1 is great too and gives you a very wide range of retrieve speeds.
I am using 12lb mono and a 6'7" rod and baits from 3/16 oz up to just over 1/2 oz and the casting length is amazing.
Good Luck!
Bob F : Surprisingly good reel performance and quality as reels in the $80-100 range
Been fishing this reel for a month now. 2nd day, a little click sound started inside, but has since gone away. Hope it doesn't come back. Have had plenty of baitcasters in the past, this one definitely feels better, casts further, overall outperforms all of my past middle of the road reels.
The magnetic brake works very well, and very consistent. You can feel the difference in each half click. The tensioner is also very effective and consistent.
The drag won't fully lock out the spool though, I guess it's ok, producing about 20lb of drag, but I would prefer to not be limited.
It is rather lightweight, allowing lots of casting without wearing your arm out.
Material and color are high quality, doesn't look chintzy or whatnot. Although the name makes me chuckle each time I say pissyfun.
If you don't want to spend $80-100 and still get the same feel, quality, I'd recommend this reel to any casual angler.
you can compare the product price from Costco, wayfair, bestbuy, lowes, target, homedepot, Walmart, ebay, amazon to find the best price for you
