Answer: I PURCHASED THIS A SHORT WHILE AGO AND ATTACHED IT TO MY POLE WHICH IS A 1". tHIS IS NOT THE TYPE THAT USES A CLAMP TO ATTACH TO THE POLE. iT HAS THE SLOTTED METAL ENDS WHICH YOU PUSH THROUGH AND THEN TIGHTEN WITH YOUR POLE SCREW ON CLAMP. Answer: Depends on what you are fishing for. Most saltwater fish love shrimp, but if you are going for bigger game (like I do) you want to use live bait like another fish. I like using bluefish to catch bigger game like Kingfish, Cobia or Tarpon. Make sure your drag is set light so the game doesn't take your rig and have plenty of line so they can run, Good Luck. Oh by the way I do love this reel!

Product arrived on time, seemed like a very quality product out of the box. Very excited to use it on my first fishing trip, first two cast felt great, like a quality real. On the third cast the handle fell off, I lost part #1 and #2 in the jetties. Very disappointed at this point. Luckily I brought two other rod and reels with me. I’m really hoping to be able to buy parts #1 and #2 to salvage this reel. I’ve had no luck contacting anyone about replacement parts. Without these parts the real is useless. Hoping somebody will contact me back.

My first impression left a lot to be desired. The knob for the bait clicker fell off straight out of the box. The retaining clip fit so loosely as to do nothing. I squeezed the legs together with pliers to tighten it up. It should be springy, but it is very pliable. It will fall off again. The knob that holds the handle on was cross threaded and loose out of the box. I did my best to restart it straight, but the damage was done. I tried to tighten up the handle and was rewarded with a stripped out nut. I didn’t expect perfection for a bargain price, but this failed to meet even my low standards. I won’t bother to review how it works fishing; I’ll be returning it.

The Spool Tension Knob is the weak spot. It's difficult to adjust to allow line top drop smoothly. I adjusted mine and then noticed it had fallen off into 20" off water. When I purchased this reel, a parts list and diagram was provided. I am finding it impossible to find a way to contact the manufacturer to get a replacement Spool Tension Knob

To be continued after giving it a month in San Juan Islands of Washigton State. Have not tried reel yet but will give it a workout on my downrigger all August 2019.

Ok I used the reel 3 times and it is not worth the $$. First of all the drag is very "glitchy" and not consistent. I tried tightening it and loosening it over 20 times and it still would not operate in a smooth manner while lowering with my downrigger. The second time I used the reel I hooked a nice salmon only to have the outside half of the threaded "palm grip ball" fall off the reel into the water! It does not float! I battled the fish with only half of grip to use and then the drag got sticky and I lost fish at boat. The reel is now off my pole and I should have thrown it in the water. This reel is one of the worst fishing products I have ever purchased. I would never recommend this reel to anyone. Maybe it was a weird one of kind faulty manufacture but WTF am I supposed to do now?

This is my 4th reel in the last 2 years. They have lasted great, look great, feel great. We mainly fish the chesapeake bay trolling for rockfish. Have also used these offshore trolling for macs and fat alberts, did a great job.

TBH the reel look real nice and sounded great but felt cheap cause I only did 3 cast and after that I couldn't cast out anymore something from the inside pop out. So glad I tried it out before I took it to the beach with me. I wouldn't recommend this reel for anyone. 2 star only because it just look nice.

This reel looks amazing! The pricing on this is well below the relative quality given. I’m not a rich guy and researched quite a bit to get the best value. I am pleased. I’ve had no problem pulling grouper off the bottom or getting a stubborn amberjack to the boat.

My advice is to put high quality lubricant throughout the moving parts before you go. I realized that they can’t ship the reel if it is overly lubricated. Even with a fresh water rinse, I apparently missed the clicker mechanism. Their customer service was immediate and extremely courteous. They have a customer for life.

These guys are doing it right at an amazing price point.

Nice looking reel for the $$. The handle was loose, twisted it back tight and its good. The handle hand a nasty lil bur on it from machining. A couple passes with file on leatherman and its good to go. It felt nice and smooth, no problem with gears while spooling it up with 350 or so yes of sea blue 50 lb braid. And its looks REALLY cool with the blue on the reel!!! It may not be a $600 Shimano Tiagra, but i never had 1 to know either. I dont see a catfosh or Striper in Alabama it cant handle.

One short cast and now it won't unlock. Took it apart. Greased it. Got it working. Threw again. Same thing.

Started loosening drag all the way to cast it, which worked decent. Tighten drag back up and use like normal.
But got a small catfish on it, and drag wasnt strong enough to reel it in.

If I had it to do over I would consider other options.

I wasnt paying attention when i ordered this model, so was disappointed to find out it DOES NOT
come with a factory line counter installed. No matter. i have after factory line counters i purchased
for my other much older trolling reels that i can ad to my setup here. Otherwise i look FW to using
these two reels i bought while trolling for Norhern Pike and Musky. Strong and effortless function.
