Answer: Holds up great. I've had it for 3 weeks and caught plenty of trout, reds and flounder.

Answer: Shimano does not rate this reel for saltwater use. Now that said with good attention to maintenance and care following each outing my Sedonas have held up pretty well for light saltwater use. If you have the misfortune to drop the reel in saltwater or it gets heavily soaked, take my advice and tear it apart for thorough cleaning and lubrication as the spindle seal system allows water to pass into the gearbox/body.

Which size would be right for a ultra light panfish rig?

Answer: Hi, if you need ultra light, then 1000 FI is the smallest size from Shimano. C2000SFI is in the same size, but with lower small, thus if you use very small diameter line for your ultra light rig, C2000SFI may be even more suitable.

Answer: I use mine with an ultra light rod for lookdown/moon fish up to 2 lbs. I'm certain it will work with a light rod for larger fish. I love it, especially the drag. It's the best ultra light reel that I have ever owned. If you are using it in fresh water it will last forever. I've used mine in salt for two years and have had no problems.

Answer: It is a very light, smooth and reliable reel. After trying the first one I purchased, I bought a second one. The reel does not go in reverse, but neither does my Van Staal that costs more than ten times as much! Both are great reels. I wouldn’t give it a second thought.

Answer: Hi, to answer the question I use 2000 with medium weight pole that works great ???? where I might catch bass or trout. I use 1000 with light pole for stream trout fishing.

Answer: Yeah many kinds. For larger fish it’s great.

Answer: I have 3 Sedonas and I love them. However they are not for salt water fishing. I do have the Sepheros SW & the Socorro SW for inshore salt water fishing.

Answer: The 2000 series is a good reel for trout. You can go with the 1000 series too. Key is the line you use. 4lb or 6 lb will be good for either.

Answer: I would buy the smallest one available. Spool it with a high quality six pound test line. Use a fluorocarbon leader tied directly to the line, unless the conditions cause your line to twist. If your line is twisting a lot, use a very small, high quality swivel. My favorite knot is the uni-knot; it never fails. There are several U Tubes on the internet you can watch to learn how to tie it. Good fishing!

Answer: Yes that is the correct reel, FI is just the series, the actual model. SE2500HGFI is the Shimano ItemNo.

I would like to fish trout on 4 lb line and sometimes larger fish with 10 lb line. Would the se2500hgfi be a good choice?

Answer: Heck yeh you can. Now this reel maybe a little bit for 4 lb lines. I would suggest using a little bigger line or 15lb braid with a smaller leader. I use 15-30lb braid with a 10-15lb floro leader to catch speckled trout in the gulf all day long. And I wouldn’t be scared to hook some reds also.

Answer: I don’t think so. Sounds just right to me. I have a 4,000 on a two piece medium uglistik and it seems a little large for that rod so a medium heavy sounds just right. I use 10lb and 15lb mono with my 4,000 reels.

Answer: I'm fairly new to fishing but my understanding is the size options are more to do with the weight/amount of line you plan to use. As such with a medium/heavy IMHO you'd be fine using a 4000 reel in order to put a heavier weight line on there.

Answer: I only use it in Saltwater. I've had no problems. I clean it with water after every use to get saltwater off.

Is the 2500hg good for large catfish ?

Answer: I'd say that that's entirely dependent on your definition of a large catfish. Note that it's really not designed for greater than 10-pound mono. While you can get higher strength out of the same diameter braids, I think that's a sign for you. This reel is more for what I'd consider to be mid-range stuff.

Answer: It depends, what kind of fishing do you plan? 7ft may be used for ultra light fishing with light lures, when smaller sizes 1000 and 2000 may be suitable. But also for deep water jigging with heavy jigs, when 4000 and 5000 size is appropriate. 2500 and 3000 are there between. When choose the reel must first look at your baits and then choose accordingly the suitable line diameter, reel according to that diameter and rod with suitable lure weight test, so that they all would match to work together.

Answer: Depends on what size line you will use. I have the 2500 with 20lb test braid and it works for me. I can get about 125 yards of line on a reel and that's good for most redfish/trout inshore fishing. If you are going for bigger fish then get a 3000 or 4000.

Answer: Match the reel to the size of the rod. Use a 1000 on a light rod. A 3000 reel will cover a very large range of rods and the fish you are trying to get. As a benchmark, on my 3000, I have caught 20 pound channel cats, oversize redfish, triple tail and sea trout. On the same reel, I have had sharks, cobia and stingrays strip my reel!

Answer: I have two of these set up for finesse bass fishing. I use the 2500 HG size with a 7 foot medium rod and 20lb test line. Its perfect.

Answer: This is really an overall great reel , light , well balanced. I fish it on a 6'6" St. Croix rod for walleye and bass. Very smooth and great bale action.

Answer: Depends on what fish you are going after. I mostly use 2500HG for inshore reds/trout, but you can go higher if you want.

Here is how to improve the quality of a Shimano Sedona spinning reel. First do as I did disconnect it from your fishing poll and throw it in the lake as I did. Then find a stick and wrap some line around it and use the stick to fish. That fishing technique is much better then trying to use a reel that locks up and will not wind up the fishing line. Felt like the gears were bunding when I set the drag just slightly. That was the very first time I used this reel. I learned my lesson about buying inferior products on line. I will need a new reel so I will go the extra mile to a reputable fishing good store. Oh and buy the way dont get so pi**ed off that you throw a reel into a lake send it back and get your money back. Total junk. If I could give a minus star value I would give a minus 5

I purchased the 3000 model. Item was exactly as described and the reel IS SMOOTH. Some 1 ⭐️ reviews say it doesn’t have an anti-reverse lever. It’s true that it doesn’t, it has an anti-reverse clutch. I’ve never had to use an ant-reverse lever so don’t really see the need for one. This reel will suit my purposes and with the proper maintenance, should last a lifetime.

Agonized over a birthday combo for my son. Finally threw this on an ultralight 4'8" gx2 with 10# Spiderwire. Very impressed with buttery-smooth long accurate casts. My son pulled up a couple decent bass and lost a big brown (nothing to do with setup. The lack of anti-reverse seems a positive to me. I never personally had to free-wheel a spool fighting a fish. I'm a white-collar outdoors dad who fishes with older middle-of-the-road Daiwa, Shimano, uglystik, and so far the combo is exceeding my expectations. Going camping and fishing this weekend instead of fortnite/video games this weekend - just buy it - it's just $70 and you'll love it.

This was my first reel purchase in quite a few years. I trust and recommend Shimano as a brand. I'm very pleased with the quality of the reel overall. My only complaint comes from the reel seat. There is a short distance between the reel seat and the first bend to where the reel seat meets the reel itself. This distance is just short enough that it pinches my finger in between the reel and the rod a little bit, enough to be annoying. I reached for another rod that has an older Shimano reel on it for comparison. That one felt fine. The difference has to be only a fraction of an inch, but Shimano definitely changed it. I don't have large hands, so I can't be the only person with this complaint. Otherwise, the reel is great. I'll keep using my other rod and I guess this will be the one that I loan to my wife and daughter. They don't seem to mind it since they have smaller hands than I do.
