Questions about KastKing Megatron Spinning Reel, Freshwater and Saltwater Spinning Fishing Reel, Rigid Aluminum Frame 7+1 Double-Shielded Stainless-Steel BB, Over 30 lbs. Carbon Drag, CNC Aluminum Spool & Handle
Q:
can you use 10lb line on the 5000 series reel ?
Answer: The Kastking Megatron 5000 is reated at 50 to 65 Pounds of Braided Line. A 10 Pound Line Line would work just fine.
Answer: I don’t see why not but, 5000 might be a bit heavy if your going for fish that light of a line.
Answer: I use their 10# & 20# KastKing braided line with no issues at all
Answer: I guess you could however I used 30 lb line for my surf fishing.
Answer: Yes you can. And it can hold probably just under 500 yards of 10 pound mono on that spool.
Answer: Sure, why not- adjust your drag.
Q:
I am going to be Musky fishing in a river where long casts are with a 9'-10' rod which size would be reccomended? mLong Casts needed.
Answer: The 4000 or 5000 models should be plenty. With the larger line capacity and 30+lbs of drag you shouldn't have any issues outside of the normal musky fishing headaches. To maximize line capacity I like using Power Pro line and a 100lb fluorocarbon leader.
Q:
Are the 4000,5000,6000 all the same measurements ?
Answer: Hi richard,
Answer: No the larger in numbers the larger the arbor and reel in general
Q:
Anyone know if the 3000 will seat in a lew’s tp1speed stick spin rod? a 5000 penn will not!!
Answer: No it will not
Q:
Can it go far?
Answer: What exactly do you mean? How far one can cast is dependent on the rod, weight of lure, and skill of user. This is a very well built reel and well worth the price.
Answer: From China to USA!
Answer: Nope
Answer: Yes, definitely.
Q:
How big is 5000 model compared to other
Answer: Hi Millisa,
Q:
What size reel should I get for stocked trout?
Answer: I would not recommend this type of reel (spinning reel) for trout fishing. Better off going with fly fishing gear for trout.
Answer: 3000or 4000 depends on line strength and capacity. Check out the scale picture for this product
Q:
Could I use 15 lb mono line on the 4000?
Answer: 10-12Lb mono is recommended for that 4000 size. The 5000 can do 15lb mono. You may won’t to go braid .these reels can accept braided line also .More line on your reel ..
Answer: Yes you easily could do 15 pound mono on the 4000 size. You may get about 280 or 300 yards on the spool. Just a rough estimate.
Answer: You can. I used 20lb mono on a similar sized reel. The main issue you may have is the line has a tendency to unravel when it's loose until it conforms to the spool. This is one of the reasons I've switched to braided lines and use mono as a leader for realy clear water.
Answer: I’ve got 60lb braided line ment for ocean fishing and it works great, yeah you could easily use 15lb Tess specially since the reel can handle much more. The drag really goes up to upwards of 30lbs as a max.
Answer: Yes, it's a perfect size for 15 lb mono.
Answer: Yes you can! I bay and surf fish in fla panhandle and Megatron is the best and smoothest reel yet! I also use ande 15 lb test.
Answer: I got a 15lb Stren on my reel which seems to be fine. Hopefully that helps?
Answer: Yes
Q:
How big is the 2000 Megatron from the traditional trout spinning reel and will it be ok for mini jigs?
Answer: Hi Ethan,
Q:
Which should I get for salmon fishing?
Answer: don't know about salmon fishing for saltwater fishing. i use a 2000 to catch redfish, speckled trout, spanish makarel, croaker, redfish. it has worked very well with lures. going to purchase a 4000 next because the big bull reds are running now.
Answer: At least the 4000 size or higher salmon are big and tough
Answer: It depends on what technique you want to use. For lighter line you can use the 3000, for heavier styles go with a 4000 or 5000. If you’re not sure I think the 4000 will be a safe bet
Answer: 3000
Q:
What would be a good rod to pair with this reel for saltwater bottom/trolling and casting saltwater fish?
Answer: I would recommend a Star medium action rod - costs about $100. If your budget is lower then a Shakespear Ugly Stick is a good alternative.
Q:
Does it rust?
Answer: I've used it for freshwater and saltwater and I've had no issues with rust. However, particularly with saltwater, I washed, wiped and oiled it up too after it sat in my tackle bag for a few days
Q:
how much line does it hold?
Answer: Ultimately that will depend on the diameter of the line, but here are the estimates we provide.
Answer: It depends on which size you buy, there is a chart for that, also if you use mono or braid it varies accordingly
Q:
Hi, I was getting ready to buy the 5000 and it’s no longer available. When will it be available?
Answer: It's in stock now on Amazon
Q:
Would a 500 size reel fit a 10ft.rod?

Answer: 5000? Yes any of these reels would fit.
Q:
Will the 2000 and 3000 fit my ugly stick Shakespeare?
Answer: It should, the reel foot is no bigger or thicker than any other reel. I’ve had mine on several rods and it fit all of them easily
Answer: Yes, It will probably fit since the reel foot are small or just standard size.
Answer: You didn’t specify the size of the rod but I’m pretty sure you’ll be fine.
Q:
Do they make a power handle for tis reel?
Answer: Maybe ?
Q:
Is the kk megatron 6000 available anywhere? i want to pair it with my 12' surf rod.
Answer: It would work great for ocean fishing, I got mine set with 60lb braided ment for salt water and I have 200yrds with room to spar on my reel for more, and I use it to cat fish with out any issues.
Q:
Whats a good size to get for inshore and offshore bottom fishing?
Answer: The 5000 is a great all around reel for inshore and offshore .. I have used mine in both settings with any issues.. Happy fishing !
Answer: I would pick anything from 3,000 and up but 4,000 if you’re targeting bigger fish
Q:
How many yards of 30lb test can u put on the 6000?
Answer: Regular Tess I’d say around 200yrds it’s rates the 6000 at 300yrds for. 20lb on the 6000. An I have it set up with 60lb braided at about 200yrds with room to spar on the reel.
Q:
Does this reel have kiss system like that of sharky iii
Answer: Hi Rohan,
Q:
why would you ship this in the original product box?! it wasn’t even taped shut!!! of course it arrived a empty box!
Q:
Will the 6000, paired with a 7.6" powerplus trophy class sr work well together? and is 35 to 40 braided line ok?
Answer: If you're beach or bay fishing the 4000 would be plenty! Braided line will work, just a lower test would be better. 6000 will work with those stronger braids if in offshore waters.
Answer: Its should be okay. I paired my 6000 with 8" ugly stick big water and a 40 lbs mono. Went for charter trip to Mexico and caught some bluefin tuna.
Answer: Yes it will I use it for my 7ft surf rod with 60lb braid and it works just fine
Q:
Is it sealed?
Answer: Yes
Q:
Does this reel have a screw in handle?
Answer: Hi there,
Answer: Yes, if you're asking if the handle can change from right to left handed
Q:
will it restock
Answer: Hi Ta,
Q:
How much 40 lbs braid will the 6000 reel hold
Answer: I've got a 5000 and 50# and it couldn't take the whole 300 yard spool. I'd guess pretty close though maybe 250. You can find specs for it, not easy but they're there.
Q:
where can i buy a extra spool for the kastking megatron 4000.
Answer: You should be able to search make and model for the spool. However if you have trouble you can contact kastking.

Q:
What size would best for salt water fishing off piers and canals and for freshwater carp and catfish
Answer: I use mine in Alaska, fishing off shore for King Salmon, using 50 lb braided line and the 6000 model works well... and, in fact, for a small, lightweight reel, it has held up better than some larger reels. It's versatile, as I've used it on a lighter rod with a bit more action for the smaller silver salmon and it works like a champ. I've been really quite impressed with the Megatron and may be getting one or two more so I don't have to keep swapping this one out from rod to rod.
Answer: I got the 3000 for smallmouth fishing. I would say anything 4000 up. The drag is not a problem at all. I’ve caught 35lb striped bass on the 3000. The reel had no problem at all with them. I would say it’s just a question of it not looking like a toy reel on a tuna rod. Anything thing above 4000 for a big rod. Hope this helps.
Answer: I would definitely recommend getting an at least 4000 just because you can put more and heavier line on it.
Q:
Does it have the bait clicker alert ?
Answer: Hi Chris,
Answer: Afaik it does not have aclicker but nice drag sound.
Answer: This reel does not have a bait runner
Answer: Unfortunately no. Your gonna want the Sharky III Baitrunner for that option
Q:
Looking for a good tuna rod to pair with the 6000. Any suggestions?
Q:
What color is it? Picture is black. Description says white?
Answer: Reel is chrome and black
Answer: Mine is black with some red
Answer: The on I got was black
Answer: Got mine it's black... Hope it help
Answer: Hi. It's black.
Q:
For a 7’ ultra light rod which reel size would be ideal?
Answer: 1000/1500. Assuming you’re using it for lakes I wouldn’t get any bigger. I had a 2500 on one and it was huge!
Answer: I would pair it with 2000
Answer: 1000 would be good
Answer: I would say the 2000
Q:
I have 10 ft rood. if i pair it with megatron 6000 - what line should i use? plan to catch flukes and strippers at jersey shore from the beach
Answer: I would use 17-20lb test line depending on how big the fish you want to catch are. 17lb test can land 40+ pound fish with ease generally.
Q:
Is it braid ready?
Answer: I used braid last week. It worked fine
Q:
what size should i get for pan fish?
Q:
Will this reel be OK for strippers in the 15 to 20 pound range?
Answer: I just pull out a Goliat Grouper that it was around 12-15 pounds and it did handle it well
Answer: Hi Bob,
Answer: Shure..., it is powerful and has a smooth drag....with 25 lb suffix and a flurocarbon leader....circle hook....med heavy spinning rod...it will do the job
Q:
What size of backing tape should I use ?
Answer: no need for tape spool is designed for braided line

michael d : Beefy Reel In a Small Package, but Smooth Enough to Finesse: Great Value and
Replaced this on my cheap 7ft spinning rod combo with the 2000. II picked up a cheap rod reel combo for my son's boy scout trip, which I now use when my 9-11ft surf rods aren't practicable. Of course the cheap plastic gear on the cheap reel, crumbled, so I did some research and opted for the Magatron which is designed to take a beating. Upon unboxing, I was delighted to see metal gears being used where plastic had failed in my cheap reel. I'm impressed how this reel casts my 3/4 - 2 oz lures for it's small size and the amount of drag this can impart. I put 20lb braid on it's braid friendly spool. I'd give this a higher rating but I haven't fished this ling enough to add the 5th star on durability, but my initial experience and looking at it's constructions leaves me confident I will return to do so.
Big Al : Very smooth operation
Used for past 2 months for surf striper fishing. Nice rigid frame...no wobbling or give when reeling in.
Drag is very sensitive from very light to heavy and everything in between.
Would not hesitate to buy again.
Salvador Martinez : Affordable and built quite well
The reel looks amazing, its smooth, and durable. I've been using mostly for freshwater fishing this last month but I went ahead and went to the beach and did some surf fishing as well and it works well in both environments. Caught a couple of catfish and a stingray with it so far. Someone accidentally knocked my pole over and sand got on the reel but honestly a rinse was just about did it and the reel is still working just as smooth. Overall its an affordable and quality reel.
Mike Bonfiglio : Woowwww!!!!
Allow me to preface this by saying I own 4 Kastking rods (casting and spinning) and this Megatron 5000 will be by 6th reel (3 casting and 3 spinning). Also, I own 7 spools of Kastking line. I'm not sponsored by Kastking, nor am I getting paid to say this.
I love everything about this reel, as I do all of Kastking products. Not only are they affordable, their stuff is made very well and it works. And this 5000 is a HOSS! I bought it because I'm gonna do some ocean fishing this summer and I needed a reel to handle bluefish and spanish mack. I specifically got this one because I didn't wanna stop a ton of money on a saltwater reel I'm only gonna use during one week of the summer. This reel is for fresh water and salt water because of the sealed bearings.
Screw the other guys, go with Kastking stuff. If you dont believe me check out their product reviews on YouTube.
Chris H. : Excellent Reel and Great Value
I purchased this along with an Ugly Stick from Shakespeare and have been very happy with the performance and price of both. I purchased both for under $100 and have landed over 50 fish already and are holding up well.
The spinning reel will need regular cleaning and oiling (along with rinsing after each use) if used in salt water like I do. I clean and oil about once or twice a month, as I use the reel several times per week fishing off the beaches in Florida.
I am NY : Looks and feels amazing!
Planning a guys trip out to Lake Erie end of the week. Needed to upgrade my reel. After a lot of research, I decided on this Kastking Megatron based on reviews online and Amazon. I'm glad I purchased this. In hand it feels super sturdy and very smooth. Not to mention the name and look of the thing. I can't wait to get some braid on it and test it out in two days!
Stan : Sexy and built for abuse!
This thing is absolutely gorgeous! I mean, I'm already a hardcore Kastking fan as it is and I don't even know how much gear I have from them anymore, but this is sexy! More to add to the collection.
Carter : It's holding up in saltwater
I bought this for surf fishing here in southern Florida. I've used it a dozen times getting exposure to sand and salt. It's still spinning as good as the day I got it. The bad though is that the handle is too small, and it's smaller/won't hold as much line as advertised. Also bought a Daiwa 5000 and it fits much better on a surf pole and holds more line. I would say spend the extra money if you can for a Daiwa or Penn if your doing bigger game fishing.
Caldwell : AMAZING
I have 5 kastking reels, I love them! Great quality for a great price! I use them for red fish, trout, sheephead, snapper, sharks! It handles them all great!

FrenchJr : Crisp and smooth… workhorse!
This is a picture of the back of my work van. As you can see it goes with me everywhere along with my baitcaster just in case I get near water lol. I use it for my slower heavier lures or dragging the bottom as known by its gear ratio. It is crisp and smooth and functions better than reel twice its price point. Kastking, bc of their quality for the price is quickly becoming a favorite of mine. Great product.
Kimberly Saunders : NICE
Got a 5000 series, sturdy, well built. Will be using it for walleye, striper, catfish. Longshot but only thing that could be on here would be a heavy quickfire system on bail to improve it.
Fred : Great reel. Great price.
Looking for a great reel for a even better price this is it. Seems like it’s heavy duty and for the size a little heavy in weight. Did well river fishing in Michigan. Early and late fall king salmon fishing. Great drag control and line control. 6 straight days of fishing Kings and landed the ones we could no problem. Extreme cold and even rain, this reel continues to perform above expectations. Will continue to use and buy more of kast king products. I purchased a 5000 model and for a 6’6” rod it was a little big. However I put it on my larger rod and it worked just dandy.
Stephen Cox : solid performer
I don't write many positive reviews but after this weekend's performance I have to recommend this product. I hooked a 40" black drum from the peer this last weekend and the reel held up very well. I fought other large fish with reels in this price point and they don't reel as smoothly under load as this one did.
The reason for 3 stars is the handle and knob seemed a little undersized. I think if they just increased the handle length and put a slightly larger knob it would make this product exceptional instead of great.
I can't comment on heavy usage and long term reliability though. Time will tell how long its performance will hold up but at this price point it is worth the risk before investing in the much more expensive tried & true brands
Eric : Looks and feels smooth, can't wait to fish it
Looks like it's well made. Mostly i wanted a reel that didn't have lots of plastic on it, was a good price, and held a good bit of line. Went with the 4000 and think I'll be happy with it but am wondering about the hard rubber handle and how it will hold up to my abused.
EagerMeager : It's a good value.
Just got the chance to use it last night, I purchased the 3000. I should have gone with the 4000, the one I got was a bit small for my use, surf fishing. Action is smooth, but not sure about the drag, have not had a chance to test it with a big fish. Wish the bail is of stainless and the anti-reverse level looks and feels a bit weak and cheap. Durability wise, I don't have an opinion since I just got it, but it looks promising. But at this price point, it's a good value.
Austin tx : Some problems
I got 2 of these reels, a 2000 and 3000 models. Both of these reels had a flaw in the reel handle retaining screw/nut that I had to fix. The plastic nut had a casting flaw which required clipping off with scissors before the handle could be tightened correctly.
The other problem was the reel would intermittently get stiff when cranking in the line. Upon disassembly, I found 2 reasons for this.
First, the gear grease inside was of poor quality and haphazardly applied when initially assembled. I did a through cleaning and relubed with quality Shimano grease and that was that.
Second, when initially assembled, they over tightened the nut that holds the rotor onto the pinion shaft. I backed the nut off ever so slightly and reinstalled the locking device..problem solved!
Now the reel preforms as it should, silky smooth with a powerful drag. The components and design are solid and heavy duty. These reels should last for some time. For the price, the reels are worth it but... only if you are capable and willing to give them a complete service right outta the box.
Rashad2019 : Excellent reel and one of the best added to my collection
I received my new Kastking megatron reel size 2000 in excellent condition and fast delivery, it’s my second experience with kastking i had 2 reels sharky iii as well .. it’s amazing reels either megatron or sharky iii .. light weight, durability.. even when it was sunk in salt water and still working very well till now .. high max drag that i needed .. i was able to catch Barracuda, queen fish with a nice action ..
Lw G. : No response from Kastking customer service dept.
Tried several times to communicate with kastking trying to get a spare spool for this reel. No response from their customer service department. Haven't tried the reel yet, but it looks and feels good. Price is right, but with no customer service response, I can not give it a full five stars. I need the spare spool so as to change from braided line to mono line as needed.
Northlander73 : Solid reel for the money
Nice reel in a very affordable price. All parts solid and no slop. I'm using on a mh rod and it pairs nicely weight wise. I'd recommend this if you're looking for a good reel and a good price.
Brad : Awesome reel!!!
I bought this reel after reading reviews and looking at YouTube videos on several different reels including this one. I am so glad I chose this reel! KastKing is so underrated by many of those who will only purchase the expensive brands. Although I own a few of those brands too, and they are good products. I will be buying more KastKing. I also have a Rover 90 by KastKing and you can’t beat it! So much more bang for your buck! The Megatron is a super smooth high quality reel! It is built with quality materials and craftsmanship that you can see and feel! You won’t be disappointed!
Don : Kastking does it again
I bought my first Kastking rod and reel a few years ago on the recommendation of a friend. I was skeptical to say the least but gave it a shot. I was not disappointed. I was super impressed with the quality, durability and the value. I have since replaced each aging piece of gear with a new Kastking replacement. My entire fishing arsenal is now exclusively Kastking. The Megatron is no exception. I love this reel and paired it with a Crixus rod. The biggest issue I have with Kastking is that I love them all and can only use a few at a time. Definitely recommend this reel.
paige gundlach : Don't Use in Saltwater!
I've bought Kastking reels before and never had an issue until this one. They advertised the Megatron as being a saltwater and freshwater reel and I bought it for a recent saltwater trip. This reel is in no way suitable for saltwater. I used it for a few days and its already turned to junk. This is despite me rinsing it in freshwater after every use. The reel has no grease in any areas that should and excessive grease in an area it shouldn't. As a result parts started corroding and rusting immediately. The internal parts in order to be suitable for saltwater use should be made out of stainless. This reel might work fine for freshwater however it should really be properly greased for all applications and needs parts made out of a higher quality metal rather than cheap zinc and whatever cheap metals they could find.
Kimberly Saunders : NICE
Got a 5000 series, sturdy, well built. Will be using it for walleye, striper, catfish. Longshot but only thing that could be on here would be a heavy quickfire system on bail to improve it.
Gregg R. Goldstein : Nice product but better suited for fresh water in my opinion
I wanted to give this higher rating but for saltwater the Megatron handle feels flimsey. It holds a decent amount of braid for the size of the spool which is something I do like but the winding of the line is not good. As you reel the line back on the spool it is not very fluid...or even. Seems like the spool moves up/down too fast creating a non smoothness laying of the line. In the pictures I attached you can see the handle is cheesy on the Megatron compared to the Penn slammer 6500 reel or the Diawa BG 4. Even though the price points are big the KastKing feels very weak for the price. I do love KastKing braid though and I think it is the best. I will update my post in the next couple of weeks if I have better performance with the reel.
mel : Good quality for the money
Rookie saltwater fisherman. Upgrading from my sporting goods store saltwater combo. Just purchased the KastKing Megatron 4000 and I am very impressed. For the money, it is an excellent reel. The quality is well above the $50 purchase price. I particularly like the feel of the reel handle compared to other similar priced reels. 4 Stars on the Durability until I see how it performs for the next couple of weekends.
survivor 75 : Kastking Megatron 6000, Awesome reel!
This feels and looks like a high quality reel with out the cost. The bearings are smooth and the backlash bearing is instant which is awesome. Its made with aluminum which is nice the bearings are stainless steel so no rust worries. I'm really impressed with this really. I will buy more in the future!
Amanda B Crockenberg : Excellent reel missing smoothness
I purchased the Megatron 3000. I don’t want to be biased, i chose this model for style. I am returning it. I only purchase reels with 10 ball bearing systems such as pflueger specifically. I couldn’t find any reviews or videos that told me the difference in Megatron. I was able to sample the Kodiak 4000 and she spun better than my current 10bb reels. I was hoping with Megatron was equally as smooth.
I’m extremely happy with the quality, but I am exchanging for the Sharky 111
There is an inherent feel to a reel with 10 forward ball bearings and the Megetron couldn’t fill The void. Sorry for the return, but had to feel it for myself.
Tonyluu : Great reel
I like it beside the name lol but the reel seem solid and smooth gonna test it out against some shark soon thank you you got my business for sure. I'll be back for more ,oh and just Incase people want to change out the old knob to the power knob just remember that the shaft is too short for the gomexus knob and you have to drill off the old shaft to put it on.
Travis : Best reel ever
Best fishing reel I've ever owned. And best company to buy from. Even without the loyalty program from kast king you can't go wrong with this one. Definitely worth the money. Well built reel
Danielbbeck : hard core saltwater use
I used it and liked it ok, Now this is the main problems, the main bearing is hi carbon steal and has rusted causing reel to stiffen fast, the clip for the drag is to thin needs better clip turns to easy broken when disassembled too , drag spring is hi carbon and rust as well. Anti-reverse is almost able to switch on/off on it's own it should be stiffer. The chrome paint in the aluminum is caustic with salt water causing corrosion, pealing and would benefit with anti Croatian paint.
Kong : Awesome reel. megatron 6k
My biggest complaint about this reel is the drag system. although it claims like +40lb drag and is very smooth it doesn't give you the feel like there are 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 30lbs etc worth of options. It goes from like 5lbs to like 20lbs of drag in like 2 clicks to the right. Not much play in the drag settings so you can't really fine tune the drag. i might have just gotten a dud but regardless this reel is a beast. Been pulling in stripers with no issue whatsoever and even thought "I" have this experience this may be limited to just mine. But for the price, this reel should definitely be up for debate as p4p salt/fresh water reel.
andrew h : Broke on 2nd use
Updated: They responded quickly to my email and a new replacement handle was shipped to me free of charge. Hopefully this handle hold up better than the first one.
Original: It broke the 2nd day out. The handle snapped right off. Luckily my brother brought a 2nd pole or I wouldn't be fishing for the rest of the trip. His Penn rod and reel are still going. I will probably buy Penn next time.
Austin : Decent product, BUT...
First off let me start out by saying I have been a huge KastKing fan for awhile. I have only used their braided fishing line though. A buddy of mine bought the megatron 4000 smaller reel a couple weeks before I did and I loved it. So I went ahead and bought one as well, just in the 6000 model. If I could give 0 stars for durability I would. I was Absolutely amazed at how fragile this thing was right out of the box. 5 casts in, the inner spinning shaft collar broke and the entire reel wouldn’t even spin. It’s like it was off track and locked up. I’m not sure if I just got a faulty reel from the manufacturer or what? However, I will be giving it another try since KastKing hasn’t ever let me down before though. Overall performance of my first 4 casts was great though. Extremely smooth and I could cast just as far as some of my larger spinning reels on longer poles.
Big Al : Very smooth operation
Used for past 2 months for surf striper fishing. Nice rigid frame...no wobbling or give when reeling in.
Drag is very sensitive from very light to heavy and everything in between.
Would not hesitate to buy again.
Dave : Makes reels 3x the price look like cheap junk.
This reel is killer for the money. Very well built, smooth, and dope looking. Ive been using a high end Abu Garcia spinning reel, that I bought in 2015 on sale for 150 bucks. I also have multiple Abu Garcia baitcasters. Back when I used to fish tourneys, I was an abu garcia guy all the way. I just recently started getting into local tourneys again, and decided I needed to upgrade my gear and buy more gear to supplement what I have. Plus, tech has changed, especially when it comes to rods and the way the blanks are exposed at the grip for extra sensitivity etc. Anyways, I had never used a KastKing. I researched the product and decided to try it out after talking to some people, and I am blown away with the build quality. Im Not gonna say this is as nice as a 300 daiwa reel or anything like that, but it def the best reel for the money, and way nicer and smoother than a lot of the spincasting reels in the 100 dollar range. Its better than my old tourney reels, plus it can be used in the salt when I go on vacation. The ONLY thing I would change on this reel, is the reverse switch. It appears to be made out of plastic, and im afraid it could possibly break if it was hit by something. However, I havnt read of that happening on any review, and the placement of it makes it nearly impossible to be hit or caught, or dropped on. Maybe its a type of composite, but it looks like plastic to me.
I put the reel on my Abu Garcia rod (cuz im still waiting for my new rod i ordered) and took it out this evening. Caught a few smallies on a finesse jerkbait and a jig w/swimbait I was walking off rocky points. Great reel. Hopefully the rod will be just as great when it gets here. If you are thinking of buying this reel, and considering other reels too, Just buy it. For 50 bucks you are not going to find a better reel, period. Its gonna be made with plastic parts and some cheap metal on the internals etc. this thing is made from quality metals and brass.
Mike hall : Better suited for freshwater
When I first received this reel I was excited and ready to use. I’ve gotten the chance to use this for a little over a month now. I do a fair amount of saltwater fishing and I know the wear the salt can do to a reel without proper cleaning and so on. First couple outings were great no issues reel was nice and smooth felt good. But after continue usage with proper cleaning and keeping everything lubed up there seems to be a lot of drag when reeling. A lot of slow down in my opinion to where the reel gets caught up. The drag knob has stopped clicking when I loosen/tighten the drag. It’s still a decent reel when it wants to cooperate but that’s 50% of the time. This reel almost feels better suited for freshwater rather than salt.

Jaycode415 : Reel me in baby.. I’ll take the bait!
Saw this reel and loved the name.. looked up a review and saw a video on YouTube.. threw some kastking mono 15lbs test on the thang.. after I got it in the mail today, and went fishing immediately.. you tell me this isn’t worth buying! It’s nice looking, felt sturdy and ready, and the price!?? Shoot I felt like I stole the dang thing at that price.. got a 3000 by the way.
Brandon A Collins : Too small handle. Line capacity and drag less than listed.
I’ve been wanting to give KastKing reels a go for awhile. Out of the box this reel looks great. The drag, uptake and casting are smooth and the bail is nice. However, for a 6000 series reel, the handle is insufficiently small. I have this reel on a 12ft surf casting rod for large striper and blue fish fishing in New England. It handles the smaller fish adequately (4-7lb blue fish) but anything bigger is a struggle with this handle and grip. It’s so small that you really have to squeeze down on it (with just your thumb and index finger cause that’s all that fits) to manage the torque needed to muscle in a big blue or striper. I landed a 10lb blue on this three days ago and my reeling hand and forearm were really fatigued afterward. This is something I haven’t encountered with my Penn Spinfisher VI 6500 and I can only suppose that it has something to do with the length of the handle arm and the size of the handle grip. Further, this spool did not hold the amount of line advertised. I use PowerPro braid on all of my reels and this didn’t hold even close to a 300yd spool of 50lb PowerPro braid. I don’t know exactly how much is on there but there’s plenty left on the brand new store bought PowerPro spool. I also doubt the 46lb drag capability as even smaller striper and blues have peeled drag with it tightened down. Otherwise, it’s smooth and has caught some fish. If you’re looking to hook into bigger fish from shore or a pier, you might want to look into something a little beefier. Still not bad for a $50 reel. I may be able refit the handle with something heavier.

derrick harris : I'm Impressed...
I'm impressed with this reel so far on a whole. There's a mixture of plastic and metal parts. Combined it with a 10'6" carbon surf rod with 25lbs braid at the beach to fish stripers and perch. Worked swell but the real test is the days after and how it combats salt water. Won't make this a habit but for reference I was able to cast at least four and a half oz on the snare and drag in three keeper dungees. Pole and reel did good. Would give 5 ⭐ but theres lots of plastics.
Cathy : Great reel.
I purchased the 4000 series for inshore on the gulf coast. The design and price are what got my attention to this reel. Out of the box, it was lightweight and clean, came with a breakdown guide of the reel, and how to care for the reel. I spooled it with 22 lb braid, on a 7'2" medium/fast action rod. The spool was easy to put braid on with no backing. Tested this is 3/4 oz spoon, the casting was great, threw it about a hundred times, and no issues at all. Retrieval, it did not feel like a 3/4 spoon, much lighter feel. Pulled in two specs and a red, with no issues. The reel did not bog down with the weight, I even got hung on something and pulled the boat to it to get it unhooked. The drag was great, I set it light just to test it out and tightened it during a fight and it was very smooth and responsive. The handle and grip are comfortable, no play in the handle nor the anti-reel. Love this reel, even my buddy who has Penn reels loved it and want to get one for himself. I will be purchasing more to replace my other reels.
Charles Williams : Great spinning reel
This spinning reel will finish off my collection of fishing equipment. This reel is so smooth and easy to use. I can fish with it all day and not get tired. The light weight reel is also very strong and can handle some nice sized redfish. I think KastKing has a winner with this reel.
Sun Lee : 3,000 Series Review
Gear ratios range between 4.5:1 and 5:1, with the smaller reel spool sizes sporting a surprisingly impressive 33lbs of drag. They can tackle larger gamefish with a much lower price tag.
Made from a durable, lightweight aluminum body, stainless steel shaft, and brass gears, this unit will survive the harsh saltwater fishing environments avoiding corrosion over years of serious use. Added to this the Kastking Megatron comes with 7+1 double shielded stainless steel bearings providing further protection against the elements.
Retrieve feels smooth, albeit not as smooth as my Dawai BG Spinning Reel, but at this price point, it works admirably. Drag feels strong with the Megatron providing a triple disk carbon fiber drag system to do all the heavy lifting.
With up to 46lbs of drag available on larger models this reel is home to all the stopping power you could ever require.
Kastking has undoubtedly proven they know how to make high-quality equipment for low budget wallets with the Megatron ready to tackle large gamefish in any conditions.
A perfect starting point for those new to saltwater fishing or on a tight budget. The market for saltwater fishing reels under $100 is fierce, and the Megatron not only competes well in that category but will perform alongside your higher budget reels too.
Sdont care : Switching all my poles string and reals to kastking
I took a gamble and went to a cheaper real this round. I normally buy all high priced reals rods etc. and have terrible luck.
I ve tried lower end reals that i know i'll kill in saltwater and they are barely cheaper than these but also dont hold up well. My kastking went through 2 weeks of nonstop saltwater casting with no issues . I also use the same rods/reals at home and they are very smooth compared to even my higher end reels which i dont use at all anymore now.
Yanto : Smooth, lightweight, affordable, and seems to be durable
I was debating whether to get Penn Battle II 6000 or this Kastking Megatron 6000. When I see that the Penn reel weights around twice this reel, I decided to go with Kastking which is also a lot cheaper. I tried it on my surf fishing trip and this reel is awesome. It smooth and lightweight. All aluminum construction. The handle seems to be made of hard foam, which I can't testify yet for its durability. Other than that, it seems to be a tough reel, even when I get sand and saltwater on it.
Another point though, I bought Kastking 50 lb/327 yard braided line for this reel as well, but I couldn't fit the entire line on the spool, which is confusing me. As per the specs, this 6000 reel is supposed to fit 370 yards 70 lb braided line. Idk if I'm not spooling it tight enough (which I doubt) or the specs is incorrect.
you can compare the product price from Costco, wayfair, bestbuy, lowes, target, homedepot, Walmart, ebay, amazon to find the best price for you
