Questions about KastKing Megatron Spinning Reel, Freshwater and Saltwater Spinning Fishing Reel, Rigid Aluminum Frame 7+1 Double-Shielded Stainless-Steel BB, Over 30 lbs. Carbon Drag, CNC Aluminum Spool & Handle
Q:
can you use 10lb line on the 5000 series reel ?
Answer: The Kastking Megatron 5000 is reated at 50 to 65 Pounds of Braided Line. A 10 Pound Line Line would work just fine.
Answer: I don’t see why not but, 5000 might be a bit heavy if your going for fish that light of a line.
Answer: I use their 10# & 20# KastKing braided line with no issues at all
Answer: I guess you could however I used 30 lb line for my surf fishing.
Answer: Yes you can. And it can hold probably just under 500 yards of 10 pound mono on that spool.
Answer: Sure, why not- adjust your drag.
Q:
I am going to be Musky fishing in a river where long casts are with a 9'-10' rod which size would be reccomended? mLong Casts needed.
Answer: The 4000 or 5000 models should be plenty. With the larger line capacity and 30+lbs of drag you shouldn't have any issues outside of the normal musky fishing headaches. To maximize line capacity I like using Power Pro line and a 100lb fluorocarbon leader.
Q:
Are the 4000,5000,6000 all the same measurements ?
Answer: Hi richard,
Answer: No the larger in numbers the larger the arbor and reel in general
Q:
Anyone know if the 3000 will seat in a lew’s tp1speed stick spin rod? a 5000 penn will not!!
Answer: No it will not
Q:
Can it go far?
Answer: What exactly do you mean? How far one can cast is dependent on the rod, weight of lure, and skill of user. This is a very well built reel and well worth the price.
Answer: From China to USA!
Answer: Nope
Answer: Yes, definitely.
Q:
How big is 5000 model compared to other
Answer: Hi Millisa,
Q:
What size reel should I get for stocked trout?
Answer: I would not recommend this type of reel (spinning reel) for trout fishing. Better off going with fly fishing gear for trout.
Answer: 3000or 4000 depends on line strength and capacity. Check out the scale picture for this product
Q:
Could I use 15 lb mono line on the 4000?
Answer: 10-12Lb mono is recommended for that 4000 size. The 5000 can do 15lb mono. You may won’t to go braid .these reels can accept braided line also .More line on your reel ..
Answer: Yes you easily could do 15 pound mono on the 4000 size. You may get about 280 or 300 yards on the spool. Just a rough estimate.
Answer: You can. I used 20lb mono on a similar sized reel. The main issue you may have is the line has a tendency to unravel when it's loose until it conforms to the spool. This is one of the reasons I've switched to braided lines and use mono as a leader for realy clear water.
Answer: I’ve got 60lb braided line ment for ocean fishing and it works great, yeah you could easily use 15lb Tess specially since the reel can handle much more. The drag really goes up to upwards of 30lbs as a max.
Answer: Yes, it's a perfect size for 15 lb mono.
Answer: Yes you can! I bay and surf fish in fla panhandle and Megatron is the best and smoothest reel yet! I also use ande 15 lb test.
Answer: I got a 15lb Stren on my reel which seems to be fine. Hopefully that helps?
Answer: Yes
Q:
How big is the 2000 Megatron from the traditional trout spinning reel and will it be ok for mini jigs?
Answer: Hi Ethan,
Q:
Which should I get for salmon fishing?
Answer: don't know about salmon fishing for saltwater fishing. i use a 2000 to catch redfish, speckled trout, spanish makarel, croaker, redfish. it has worked very well with lures. going to purchase a 4000 next because the big bull reds are running now.
Answer: At least the 4000 size or higher salmon are big and tough
Answer: It depends on what technique you want to use. For lighter line you can use the 3000, for heavier styles go with a 4000 or 5000. If you’re not sure I think the 4000 will be a safe bet
Answer: 3000
Q:
What would be a good rod to pair with this reel for saltwater bottom/trolling and casting saltwater fish?
Answer: I would recommend a Star medium action rod - costs about $100. If your budget is lower then a Shakespear Ugly Stick is a good alternative.
Q:
Does it rust?
Answer: I've used it for freshwater and saltwater and I've had no issues with rust. However, particularly with saltwater, I washed, wiped and oiled it up too after it sat in my tackle bag for a few days
Q:
how much line does it hold?
Answer: Ultimately that will depend on the diameter of the line, but here are the estimates we provide.
Answer: It depends on which size you buy, there is a chart for that, also if you use mono or braid it varies accordingly
Q:
Hi, I was getting ready to buy the 5000 and it’s no longer available. When will it be available?
Answer: It's in stock now on Amazon
Q:
Would a 500 size reel fit a 10ft.rod?
Answer: My Kastking is a 5000 size rod......mainly for sizeable fish and heavier line.
Answer: 5000? Yes any of these reels would fit.
Q:
Will the 2000 and 3000 fit my ugly stick Shakespeare?
Answer: It should, the reel foot is no bigger or thicker than any other reel. I’ve had mine on several rods and it fit all of them easily
Answer: Yes, It will probably fit since the reel foot are small or just standard size.
Answer: You didn’t specify the size of the rod but I’m pretty sure you’ll be fine.
Q:
Do they make a power handle for tis reel?
Answer: Maybe ?
Q:
Is the kk megatron 6000 available anywhere? i want to pair it with my 12' surf rod.
Answer: It would work great for ocean fishing, I got mine set with 60lb braided ment for salt water and I have 200yrds with room to spar on my reel for more, and I use it to cat fish with out any issues.
Q:
Whats a good size to get for inshore and offshore bottom fishing?
Answer: The 5000 is a great all around reel for inshore and offshore .. I have used mine in both settings with any issues.. Happy fishing !
Answer: I would pick anything from 3,000 and up but 4,000 if you’re targeting bigger fish
Q:
How many yards of 30lb test can u put on the 6000?
Answer: Regular Tess I’d say around 200yrds it’s rates the 6000 at 300yrds for. 20lb on the 6000. An I have it set up with 60lb braided at about 200yrds with room to spar on the reel.
Q:
Does this reel have kiss system like that of sharky iii

Q:
why would you ship this in the original product box?! it wasn’t even taped shut!!! of course it arrived a empty box!
Q:
Will the 6000, paired with a 7.6" powerplus trophy class sr work well together? and is 35 to 40 braided line ok?
Answer: If you're beach or bay fishing the 4000 would be plenty! Braided line will work, just a lower test would be better. 6000 will work with those stronger braids if in offshore waters.
Answer: Its should be okay. I paired my 6000 with 8" ugly stick big water and a 40 lbs mono. Went for charter trip to Mexico and caught some bluefin tuna.
Answer: Yes it will I use it for my 7ft surf rod with 60lb braid and it works just fine
Q:
Is it sealed?
Answer: Yes
Q:
Does this reel have a screw in handle?
Answer: Hi there,
Answer: Yes, if you're asking if the handle can change from right to left handed
Q:
will it restock
Answer: Hi Ta,
Q:
How much 40 lbs braid will the 6000 reel hold
Answer: I've got a 5000 and 50# and it couldn't take the whole 300 yard spool. I'd guess pretty close though maybe 250. You can find specs for it, not easy but they're there.
Q:
where can i buy a extra spool for the kastking megatron 4000.
Answer: You should be able to search make and model for the spool. However if you have trouble you can contact kastking.

Q:
What size would best for salt water fishing off piers and canals and for freshwater carp and catfish
Answer: I use mine in Alaska, fishing off shore for King Salmon, using 50 lb braided line and the 6000 model works well... and, in fact, for a small, lightweight reel, it has held up better than some larger reels. It's versatile, as I've used it on a lighter rod with a bit more action for the smaller silver salmon and it works like a champ. I've been really quite impressed with the Megatron and may be getting one or two more so I don't have to keep swapping this one out from rod to rod.
Answer: I got the 3000 for smallmouth fishing. I would say anything 4000 up. The drag is not a problem at all. I’ve caught 35lb striped bass on the 3000. The reel had no problem at all with them. I would say it’s just a question of it not looking like a toy reel on a tuna rod. Anything thing above 4000 for a big rod. Hope this helps.
Answer: I would definitely recommend getting an at least 4000 just because you can put more and heavier line on it.
Q:
Does it have the bait clicker alert ?
Answer: Hi Chris,
Answer: Afaik it does not have aclicker but nice drag sound.
Answer: This reel does not have a bait runner
Answer: Unfortunately no. Your gonna want the Sharky III Baitrunner for that option
Q:
Looking for a good tuna rod to pair with the 6000. Any suggestions?
Q:
What color is it? Picture is black. Description says white?
Answer: Reel is chrome and black
Answer: Mine is black with some red
Answer: The on I got was black
Answer: Got mine it's black... Hope it help
Answer: Hi. It's black.
Q:
For a 7’ ultra light rod which reel size would be ideal?
Answer: 1000/1500. Assuming you’re using it for lakes I wouldn’t get any bigger. I had a 2500 on one and it was huge!
Answer: I would pair it with 2000
Answer: 1000 would be good
Answer: I would say the 2000
Q:
I have 10 ft rood. if i pair it with megatron 6000 - what line should i use? plan to catch flukes and strippers at jersey shore from the beach
Answer: I would use 17-20lb test line depending on how big the fish you want to catch are. 17lb test can land 40+ pound fish with ease generally.
Q:
Is it braid ready?
Answer: I used braid last week. It worked fine
Q:
what size should i get for pan fish?
Q:
Will this reel be OK for strippers in the 15 to 20 pound range?
Answer: I just pull out a Goliat Grouper that it was around 12-15 pounds and it did handle it well
Answer: Hi Bob,
Answer: Shure..., it is powerful and has a smooth drag....with 25 lb suffix and a flurocarbon leader....circle hook....med heavy spinning rod...it will do the job
Q:
What size of backing tape should I use ?
Answer: no need for tape spool is designed for braided line

Product reviews of KastKing Megatron Spinning Reel, Freshwater and Saltwater Spinning Fishing Reel, Rigid Aluminum Frame 7+1 Double-Shielded Stainless-Steel BB, Over 30 lbs. Carbon Drag, CNC Aluminum Spool & Handle
VHam : Great reel, reely !
First I like the look and feel of this reel, lightweight but sturdy and sleek black finish. I use this reel equipped with my 6'6' kastking rod. I mostly use it for spinnerbaits and soft plastics, I have 10lb braid on it and it works great. Casts easily and is a great value for the money!
I recommend this reel.
mattylaw : Locks Up When Reeling In
It seems like an okay reel. I've used it 2 or 3 times over the past month, and yeah, it gets the job done, but one of the biggest pieces of critical feedback I can give is that the reel "locks up" when retrieving my line.
This can be annoying when trying to use certain presentations with your lure, as you suddenly can't move the handle to reel in your line. (I have to put in quite a bit of force to get it moving again.)
I've been trying to convince my buddy that Kast King is legit, as I've had a few good products of theirs, and of course, my buddy was fishing with me when I was struggling with this reel.
I think he has convinced me to spend a bit more money and get equipment from a reputable brand.
kim derosa : Cheap
I took a chance ordering this reel I thought it would be nice because kastking makes really nice braided line. As soon as I got out of the Box I realised what a mistake I had made. The material that makes the body of the real is extremely cheesy. It really just felt cheap in my hands and not something I want to use for hours on end. The thing that really annoys me though is that when I searched online where was made a Google search revealed that it was Made in the USA but the Box said it was made in China. Lastly there are other great options for reals in a similar price range.
Carter : It's holding up in saltwater
I bought this for surf fishing here in southern Florida. I've used it a dozen times getting exposure to sand and salt. It's still spinning as good as the day I got it. The bad though is that the handle is too small, and it's smaller/won't hold as much line as advertised. Also bought a Daiwa 5000 and it fits much better on a surf pole and holds more line. I would say spend the extra money if you can for a Daiwa or Penn if your doing bigger game fishing.

Jaycode415 : Reel me in baby.. I’ll take the bait!
Saw this reel and loved the name.. looked up a review and saw a video on YouTube.. threw some kastking mono 15lbs test on the thang.. after I got it in the mail today, and went fishing immediately.. you tell me this isn’t worth buying! It’s nice looking, felt sturdy and ready, and the price!?? Shoot I felt like I stole the dang thing at that price.. got a 3000 by the way.
fish-n-fool : KastKing MegaTron Spinning Reel
This reel fits my KastKing rod IM6 very nice. Plan on mainly using it in the surf but will also take out on the boat to fish the kelp for bass. I own aging Daiwa , ABU, and Shakespeare spinning reels and I'm venturing out to seek a nicer modern style reel to meet my needs. Going to give it a commissioning this upcoming weekend.
Amazon Customer : Nice reel for the money
This reel was worth the money! I liked the index on the drag , very smooth to operate I wish they would make a 8000 series for more line.
The only thing I would of liked is a bigger thumb grip on the handle
I dump this reel in sand and it washed out with no issues still smooth operations
Gregg R. Goldstein : Nice product but better suited for fresh water in my opinion
I wanted to give this higher rating but for saltwater the Megatron handle feels flimsey. It holds a decent amount of braid for the size of the spool which is something I do like but the winding of the line is not good. As you reel the line back on the spool it is not very fluid...or even. Seems like the spool moves up/down too fast creating a non smoothness laying of the line. In the pictures I attached you can see the handle is cheesy on the Megatron compared to the Penn slammer 6500 reel or the Diawa BG 4. Even though the price points are big the KastKing feels very weak for the price. I do love KastKing braid though and I think it is the best. I will update my post in the next couple of weeks if I have better performance with the reel.
Michael Holcombe : Mega fish from Megatron
Not sure if this will actually lead to bigger fish, but this is a quality product. The little details are a nice touch. I've owned several KastKing products and never been disappointed (except when I lost one of my kastking rods in the surf from my kayak)... I loved that rod. Anyway, this is a fantastic reel, great for any type fishing. I'm looking forward to using this in the surf.
Hung Lam : What's a great reel for this price range!
I already owned few bait casting reels by Kastking and been very satisfied. I recently needed a reel for light salt water rock cod fishing. This reel fits the bill. The reel arrived well packaged as usually. My first impression of this reel out of the box was that this is really well built spinning reel. Feel solid in hand with no flimsy cheap plastic. It spins extremely smooth and balanced. I spooled it with 50lbs braid. Will go rock fishing this weekend and update on how it performs out in the ocean.
I am NY : Looks and feels amazing!
Planning a guys trip out to Lake Erie end of the week. Needed to upgrade my reel. After a lot of research, I decided on this Kastking Megatron based on reviews online and Amazon. I'm glad I purchased this. In hand it feels super sturdy and very smooth. Not to mention the name and look of the thing. I can't wait to get some braid on it and test it out in two days!
EagerMeager : It's a good value.
Just got the chance to use it last night, I purchased the 3000. I should have gone with the 4000, the one I got was a bit small for my use, surf fishing. Action is smooth, but not sure about the drag, have not had a chance to test it with a big fish. Wish the bail is of stainless and the anti-reverse level looks and feels a bit weak and cheap. Durability wise, I don't have an opinion since I just got it, but it looks promising. But at this price point, it's a good value.
T.Xiong : Quality control issues
I really wanted to like the reel, but it looked like quality control must have had the day off(twice). I bought the first reel only to find out that it would get sticky when trying to spin. I took it apart and it seems the stickiness was due to a pretty significant gouge in the shield. Returned that one and received a replacement. Second one was fine at first, but then started to grind. Took that one apart too and couldn't find anything wrong, but returned it anyway. I have other kastking reels that are great! Seems like I got some duds on this one.
Brandon A Collins : Too small handle. Line capacity and drag less than listed.
I’ve been wanting to give KastKing reels a go for awhile. Out of the box this reel looks great. The drag, uptake and casting are smooth and the bail is nice. However, for a 6000 series reel, the handle is insufficiently small. I have this reel on a 12ft surf casting rod for large striper and blue fish fishing in New England. It handles the smaller fish adequately (4-7lb blue fish) but anything bigger is a struggle with this handle and grip. It’s so small that you really have to squeeze down on it (with just your thumb and index finger cause that’s all that fits) to manage the torque needed to muscle in a big blue or striper. I landed a 10lb blue on this three days ago and my reeling hand and forearm were really fatigued afterward. This is something I haven’t encountered with my Penn Spinfisher VI 6500 and I can only suppose that it has something to do with the length of the handle arm and the size of the handle grip. Further, this spool did not hold the amount of line advertised. I use PowerPro braid on all of my reels and this didn’t hold even close to a 300yd spool of 50lb PowerPro braid. I don’t know exactly how much is on there but there’s plenty left on the brand new store bought PowerPro spool. I also doubt the 46lb drag capability as even smaller striper and blues have peeled drag with it tightened down. Otherwise, it’s smooth and has caught some fish. If you’re looking to hook into bigger fish from shore or a pier, you might want to look into something a little beefier. Still not bad for a $50 reel. I may be able refit the handle with something heavier.
william tate : Great reel, at a good value.
So far this reel has exceeded my expectations. I fish saltwater flats and estuaries on the Texas coast. The 3000 series has handled redfish and speckled trout with no problems. I did treat all of the bearing with corrosion x for added protection.
Brian : Braided line much better quality than the reel!
I read all the positive reviews about this reel and purchased it mainly as one that I would use for guest. Upon arrival, I immediately noticed that the handle was flimsy, but I wanted to give a chance. So I took it out on the surf. I landed several decent sized blues, but felt the reel may come apart. For the money, I didn’t expect it to work as well as my $300 and $400 reels, but I decided to pay $50 more and get a Battle II. I’ll stick to the Kastking braided line.
Kimberly Saunders : NICE
Got a 5000 series, sturdy, well built. Will be using it for walleye, striper, catfish. Longshot but only thing that could be on here would be a heavy quickfire system on bail to improve it.
time consuming : Disappointed.
This reel was great until the stupid nut on the handle started to strip every time I strike a fish.
The design is incredibly stupid. The nut is too small and holds on too little thread. The nut is too thin and flex under the pressure causing it to slip.
I've always like kast king but this reel is a disappointment.
Matthew Bartelson : Perfect for the money
This is my 4th reel from KastKing. Don't see why I'd pay hundreds of dollars for the same quality. This reel is perft for big swimmer. I ordered the 4000. Planning to land big Indiana bass with it.
Amazon Customer : Great so far
Fairly light in weight for the amount of reel. Definitely a lot of line capacity factoring in the reel size and weight. She is smooth, and the drag is strong. Time will tell whether it holds up well enough for me to switch from some of the other brands.
Lady of the House : Lightweight, feels durable, cant wait to see how the drag holds up set just under max.
I received the megatron 2000 on time and it was surprisingly light. I haven't used it yet so this is just an unboxing review. I've been fishing commercially and on charter boats for almost 10 years so don't place me on your weekend warrior list. This is my 1st kastking reel and Honestly I never thought I'd buy one but for personal use, I may buy more. It is very light and feels sturdy and has a sturdy bail wire. I am going to push it to its limits by testing it in the backcountry flats trip soon to come. I know it isn't rated for saltwater but if you properly grease/oil the reel prior to the trip and clean it after, there shouldn't be any issues. I only placed 3 stars for overall durability but that's only because I havent used it and I will follow up with a post trip review (about a week after the trip) so any issues can arise if it doesn't hold up to the elements.
Phyllip Davis : A great looking reel that seems to be well-built.
I just received this reel today so I have not had a chance to put it into action, but it seems well built. From the pictures, I expected the reel to be more accented with more silver but it's appearance is mostly black. It was a pleasant surprise because I ordered a KastKing Perigree II rod to pair it with and they look great together. I ordered the reel because I wanted a 3000 reel for saltwater fishing, but I expect that I won't be able to wait until my next Florida trip and I will probably use it to bass fish here in Indiana first. From the feel of the equipment, I'm super excited to try it out. I have heard good things about KastKing products and I hope that mine lives up to their reputation. I'll come back and edit this in a month or so to let you know how they worked in freshwater and saltwater.
Eric : Looks and feels smooth, can't wait to fish it
Looks like it's well made. Mostly i wanted a reel that didn't have lots of plastic on it, was a good price, and held a good bit of line. Went with the 4000 and think I'll be happy with it but am wondering about the hard rubber handle and how it will hold up to my abused.
Jorge Moreno : Excellent reel for the price!!!
These reel has performed way above my expectations. I paired this reel with power pro 8 and another with braided 8 spider wire making the casts long and extremely smooth. Drag performance it excellent. Does not feel
cheap at all very tough and smooth.
Mark Guarini : Very Sturdy, Smooth Reeling
I bought the 6000. My first time buying this I was skeptical. I had never used Kastking products. I have always used Penn reels. The line capacity and the drag was the initial reason for giving it a try.
I was pleasantly surprised at the build quality of the entire reel. Taking it apart and putting it back together was a snap making it easy to clean. I took it on a camping/fishing trip to the Jersey shore for Striper fishing. Did an amazing job! So good infact, i bought another Megatron for my other 12' surf rod and Sharky III for my 7 foot plug/jig rod (which is also amazing)
Damone : 2 things.... Durable and Affordable!!!
Havent been able to use the reel yet. But upon unboxing i was very impressed with the presentation of it. It has a very sharp look to it all black chasis and bail with silver accents on the spool, body foot, and on the outside of rotor shell. Also you can find very well machined cut outs on the spool assembly.
Inside the packaging you will recieve a parts list with a diagram for the assembly of the reel. Which in my opinion was very helpful for maintenance of the reel.
The action seems spot on. the bail seems to close very smooth when i was messing with it. I gave it a few pretend cast. It has a very nice and balanced weight to it maybe just a little bit heavier then expected considering i baught the smallest model. But i cant complain the workman ship of the reel seems very durable . Theres not really to much plastic on the real so seems like it could take a real good beating . Overall im very satisfied with this purchase cant wait to take it out on the lake
Tiffany Childress : Comfortable+Durable+NonExpensive+LooksAwesome!
This reel feels sturdy, durable and is extremely comfortable. At the price they are offers it’s a great reel for entry level fisherman looking for something of quality without breaking the bank! It’s packaged with all the information you need to disassemble and maintain the reel. I definitely recommend purchasing!!
Yanto : Smooth, lightweight, affordable, and seems to be durable
I was debating whether to get Penn Battle II 6000 or this Kastking Megatron 6000. When I see that the Penn reel weights around twice this reel, I decided to go with Kastking which is also a lot cheaper. I tried it on my surf fishing trip and this reel is awesome. It smooth and lightweight. All aluminum construction. The handle seems to be made of hard foam, which I can't testify yet for its durability. Other than that, it seems to be a tough reel, even when I get sand and saltwater on it.
Another point though, I bought Kastking 50 lb/327 yard braided line for this reel as well, but I couldn't fit the entire line on the spool, which is confusing me. As per the specs, this 6000 reel is supposed to fit 370 yards 70 lb braided line. Idk if I'm not spooling it tight enough (which I doubt) or the specs is incorrect.
VBear : Affordable Innovation isn't just their slogan
The Megatron 6000, the third reel I've purchased from KastKing has once again lived up to expectations. The reel operates incredibly smooth and I love the little features, like the grip on the reel itself to allow for braid to be wound from the beginning instead of needing to be tied to a thicker line at the start. I could go on forever about this Megatron but I'll just say I have no reason to believe I'll ever need to get another reel from a different company.. Do yourself a favor....give KastKing a try.
Michael L. : Great quality, performs better than most $100+ reels.
I was blown away at the quality and performance of this reel, it feels solid, smooth, and looks pretty nice as well. I threw it on a Striper Stealth rod and actually enjoyed this reel more than my Shimano Sahara. I have about 2 dozen reels ranging from Penn, Lew's, Shimano, usually reels that are under $50.00 don't perform well at all and usually break after a few times of use. I've used this reel for roughly 6 months so far and it still holds its own. I would definitely recommend this reel to anyone looking for something in this price range. You can't beat and won't be dissapointed.

Kindle Customer : A decent reel for the money - questionable on saltwater use however
I purchased a few Megatrons for use on the boat, thinking that if one of my kids (or inebriated friends) banged it up or worse...sent it into the ocean...it wouldn't be that big of a loss.
I should note that these reels see a lot of use - on average twice a week for about 8 months out of the year.
Over the past two years the reels have held up fairly well. While I am consistent with rinsing the reels after each use, I typically disassemble/clean/re-grease the reels only once a year (between seasons). With this last pre-season maintenance, I noticed that some of the internal parts had salt build-up and a few were starting to corrode. There is some light pitting on one of the outside of one of the reel housings as well.
I think realistically I'll get one more season out of the reels before I see a failure of some sort. If it's reasonable to replace the failed part, then I'll do so. Given the price point, I would certainly consider buying a new Megatron and using the hypothetical broken one for spare parts.
For three solid years of hoisting sea bass, bluefish, fluke, and mackerel over the railing - I can't complain.
To that end - it would be nice if the reel was sealed a bit better. For ~$50 (as of this writing), I'll keep my expectations in line.
If you're considering a Megatron for freshwater use and/or occasional saltwater use - I think this is a solid reel for the money.

Dave : Makes reels 3x the price look like cheap junk.
This reel is killer for the money. Very well built, smooth, and dope looking. Ive been using a high end Abu Garcia spinning reel, that I bought in 2015 on sale for 150 bucks. I also have multiple Abu Garcia baitcasters. Back when I used to fish tourneys, I was an abu garcia guy all the way. I just recently started getting into local tourneys again, and decided I needed to upgrade my gear and buy more gear to supplement what I have. Plus, tech has changed, especially when it comes to rods and the way the blanks are exposed at the grip for extra sensitivity etc. Anyways, I had never used a KastKing. I researched the product and decided to try it out after talking to some people, and I am blown away with the build quality. Im Not gonna say this is as nice as a 300 daiwa reel or anything like that, but it def the best reel for the money, and way nicer and smoother than a lot of the spincasting reels in the 100 dollar range. Its better than my old tourney reels, plus it can be used in the salt when I go on vacation. The ONLY thing I would change on this reel, is the reverse switch. It appears to be made out of plastic, and im afraid it could possibly break if it was hit by something. However, I havnt read of that happening on any review, and the placement of it makes it nearly impossible to be hit or caught, or dropped on. Maybe its a type of composite, but it looks like plastic to me.
I put the reel on my Abu Garcia rod (cuz im still waiting for my new rod i ordered) and took it out this evening. Caught a few smallies on a finesse jerkbait and a jig w/swimbait I was walking off rocky points. Great reel. Hopefully the rod will be just as great when it gets here. If you are thinking of buying this reel, and considering other reels too, Just buy it. For 50 bucks you are not going to find a better reel, period. Its gonna be made with plastic parts and some cheap metal on the internals etc. this thing is made from quality metals and brass.
Sr Davila : Good Construction. Muy buena construcción.
English:
It is well built. I have only used it twice. I cannot comment on the durability.
The only 2 objections I have is the color and size.
At the beginning I believed it was bigger.
And if, it had some lines in any color it would look better aesthetic.
Being all black, I do not look like other reels that my friends have. But in over all there it is good as all Kastking products.
Phyllip Davis : A great looking reel that seems to be well-built.

Kong : Awesome reel. megatron 6k
My biggest complaint about this reel is the drag system. although it claims like +40lb drag and is very smooth it doesn't give you the feel like there are 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 30lbs etc worth of options. It goes from like 5lbs to like 20lbs of drag in like 2 clicks to the right. Not much play in the drag settings so you can't really fine tune the drag. i might have just gotten a dud but regardless this reel is a beast. Been pulling in stripers with no issue whatsoever and even thought "I" have this experience this may be limited to just mine. But for the price, this reel should definitely be up for debate as p4p salt/fresh water reel.
Kindle Customer : To all the guys who gave bad review
When you have a reel and you use it for saltwater and fresh water . One stop using braid it holds water and you cant rinse it off . Two never put your reel under water to rinse it off. Wtf all water cause rust to metal lol. Three you have to maintenance your reels often. If you fish like me you must do so monthly. Meaning adding grease or reel butter to your reel. I carry reel butter in my bag. This reel is a good bang for the buck. I use them and keep them in my work truck. I normally have and use Penn but as we all know work trucks are dangerous places for fishing gear. So moral of the story is this reel is a good bang for the buck ,take better care of your stuff. Oh and if you think your goin to get the same quality out of a 62 dollar reel as you would a 200 dollar reel you must have a cheap mind set. If you play hard buy better things. Im a gun owner I would never buy a cap gun to protect myself because its cheap. If you can't afford the right tool dont do the job. This is a a good reel for the buck my 11 year son uses one and has had no problems. But then again he takes care of it and does maintenance on it and he does throw it down and treat it bad either.
Family Traveler : Best bang for your buck but be gentle with it.
Feels flimsy when reeling in a large fish and I don’t think the drag is as strong as is advertised. The pros, as flimsy as it feels I still landed a 4ft lemon shark...That says a lot but let’s wait and see. It’s also been drug into the surf and doesn’t have any corrosion that I can see. Cant go wrong for the money and is a nice beginner reel until you find what works for you. Lastly make sure your handle is properly secured, mine was a little loose after a few visits to the beach.
ALAN GROTSKY : good general purpose reel
Pretty good general purpose spinning reel. looks good, functions well, comfortable handle knob. Like the thin stem, comfortable between the fingers when gripping rod. But note, it has a 5.0 : 1 gear ratio which makes it a relatively slow retrieve. Not recommended for lures that require speed, like spinnerbaits or crankbaits. Not the most technically sound reel. Has a bit too much play/wiggle within the moving parts. For the price point, a good buy. But, wouldn't count on it lasting for a lifetime, like other more expensive name brands.
