These are great reels. I had one previously that lasted just shy of 20 years. Hard to ignore that. This is a solid reel, though it does not throw light things.

The newer model seems to have more plastic which is less appealing to the eye admittedly, but does not seem to impair reel function. I've been using the C3 and C4 models for decades now and I am now a loyalist to the brand even with Abu being bought out by Pure Fishing now. Use them enough and you will have to replace parts, but that is to be expected and thankfully the parts remain available to this brand. I have tried imitators hoping to save some money, but unlike many clones made of guns the competition can not seem to make a comparable working reel to the C3 or C4. These reels work great for long line trolling as well as casting artificial baits you are not trying to speed fish with. I'd not consider this a great choice for a buzz bait, doing search with a fast moving spinner, or crank bait due to the speed of the gear ratio. I've wasted lots of money on many bait casters and thrown them in trash as I continue to use and I have now purchased another of the C3 and C4 series.

RandomNerdGuy : The reel I grew up loving.

I grew up with the old red 5000's. I bought this version instead of the c4 for the nostalgia of that annoying spool release placement. I have caught a few small fish with it in my last few trips. As it gets broken in, it steadily casts better. I recommend this reel for saltwater rigs and heavier baits. The weight of the high capacity spool makes it harder to cast light lures (under 1/4 oz) like most beetle spins.

I think the nonadjustable centrifugal brake makes it harder to cast than the older, simpler models. Kinda like owning a superbike with training wheels permanently attached. It still casts pretty well, but not as freely as I remember the old ones. Maybe it just needs a few more years of use to really loosen up, but idk.

These reels are rock solid against huge fish, good for saltwater, and easy to work on when they need maintenance. I recommend them for people who want reels that last through a generation when cared for.

Not much to say here for those familar with abu 4***-6*** series reels they are very reliable and tough reels and this reel fit that mold. I am very happy with this purchase and would reccomend it to anyone looking for a tough long lasting reel. I suggest this more for people that know how to use bait casting gear since it offers less in the way of adjustment for cast control than some other options, but if you know how to bait cast these reels are a great choice as always.

It’s been several years since I’ve bought new Ambassadeurs. I believe it’s been about 10/12 yrs since I bought the last 4 Ambassadeur C 6500’s. I saw the new upgrades and knew it was time to buy new ones again! Absolutely love how the blackened pieces look on the reel. And the bent handle also looks great!

This reel casts really smooth. The clicker does the job though I haven't used the clicker sense i troll anyway. The handle is great some or most might get a power handle because the original is small, but for me its alright, eeh i wish the handle was made in cork as you see why it would be nice ???? I cuaght 1 25lb catfish on this reel and casting many times didn't seem to hesitate or grind! Does the Abu Garcia 6500 C3 have a clicker? Yes!

Took out fishing for first time and had great success. Reel worked flawless. Love these reels because of the break system, never have backlash issues with one of these!

Edo Brisku : faulty drag system

I casted only a handful of times, just to find out that the drag is faulty. Something is wrong with the spool itself, seems like it has no brakes/washers to tighten the line. No matter which way I tighten the drag knob, it does nothing to actually tighten the spool, therefore, the line. So when i cast, even minimal weight keeps the line from being reeled in. I'm aware of the return window closing, but isn't there warranty on the item? $100 isn't cheap.

Typical Abu Garcia quality, which is outstanding.
My 6000’s have seen better days, so I ordered the 6500 as a replacement. Looking forward to putting this reel to the test while battling some angry catfish!

For a reasonably priced product, casts a very long way. It doesn't have a line out alarm so if you need one of those buy the 6500.
