It’s been several years since I’ve bought new Ambassadeurs. I believe it’s been about 10/12 yrs since I bought the last 4 Ambassadeur C 6500’s. I saw the new upgrades and knew it was time to buy new ones again! Absolutely love how the blackened pieces look on the reel. And the bent handle also looks great!

Amazon Customer : May receive a used reel

I placed a order for a new C3 reel and paid for fast shipping to get it for memorial day weekend, When I received the item in the mail it came in a brown amazon shipping box like you would normally get from amazon and the box had no damage. When I opened the brown shipping box to get the reel I noticed the abu box had already appeared to be opened judging by the tear on the corner. Inside I noticed there was no accessories (oil bottle and tool) I do not know if they were included in the 4601 series or not but reviews online for the 6500 had oil in the box, no big deal but it was a red flag for me saying this was possibly returned and used by someone. When I picked the reel up and tried to use it I knew something was definitely wrong the spool would barely spin and felt like something was rubbing as if someone already took it apart and did not put it back together correctly. The drag does not work I tried to turn the star drag knob but it would barely move after trying to turn it a few times its completely locked up now. The right knob on the handle was bent inward it's hard to tell from the pictures but it does not spin and there is a mark on the handle and small crack forming. The knobs were also covered in grease in the box. I am mentioning this in my review for people to consider this is what they may receive when buying from this site. I will be returning this reel and try ordering directly from the manufactures site to see if this is a issue with this site or abu as for now I do not see myself ordering anything from this site in the future.

Charles james : Braided line needs backed on reel

When I spooled this beast up with 40 #braid much to my chagrin the drag was was spinning like it was broke. After research I found that when using braid on these reels for some reason you have to either tape 1 end of the braid on the spool or start the spool with mono line then tie braid to it because the braid will just spin on the spool. I own 3 other baitcasters and I never had to do this before. Maybe because the spools on my other baitcasters have holes in the spool to tie the line. After adding a small amount of tape to the start of my line the drag was strong and worked great. Very happy with this reel and the left handed reel 4601 is made in Sweden. Added picture next to my low profile lews reel for size comparison. This to me is the perfect all purpose sized reel in fishing for bass or musky cats etc

This reel casts really smooth. The clicker does the job though I haven't used the clicker sense i troll anyway. The handle is great some or most might get a power handle because the original is small, but for me its alright, eeh i wish the handle was made in cork as you see why it would be nice ???? I cuaght 1 25lb catfish on this reel and casting many times didn't seem to hesitate or grind! Does the Abu Garcia 6500 C3 have a clicker? Yes!

HHP : Smooth, solid reel

liked ABU reels since the 70's and this version is very fine. Narrow spool comfortable in hand, casts long distances, minimal backlash issues. I am right handed but bought left hand retrieve so I do not have to change hands after casting. Came from the factory with the casting brake set at 50% and have felt no need to change that. Still odd that the definitive bass fishing reel should come from Sweden.

Edo Brisku : faulty drag system

I casted only a handful of times, just to find out that the drag is faulty. Something is wrong with the spool itself, seems like it has no brakes/washers to tighten the line. No matter which way I tighten the drag knob, it does nothing to actually tighten the spool, therefore, the line. So when i cast, even minimal weight keeps the line from being reeled in. I'm aware of the return window closing, but isn't there warranty on the item? $100 isn't cheap.
