LINE COUNTER TROLLING REEL – New from KastKing is the ReKon Line Counter Trolling Reel. Available in 2 sizes, ReKon conventional reels will be perfect for Salmon, Steelhead, Trout, Kokanee, Walleye, Lake Trout, saltwater species, and so much more. Both feature an exceptional, accurate mechanical line counter so that you can consistently keep your bait in the exact zone that is producing fish over and over.
HIGH PERFORMANCE COMPONENTS – The KastKing ReKon baitcasting reels are designed for tough trolling conditions and uses the best components. For smooth and trouble-free operation KastKing uses 3 double shielded, stainless-steel ball bearings in high stress points plus the Instant anti-reverse bearing. KastKing ReKon main gears and worm shafts are made of precision machined brass. Its pinion gear and line guide shaft are high quality stainless-steel.
AMAZING DRAG POWER & FEATURES – The ReKon Line Counter round casting reels use a smooth, carbon disc drag that delivers 30 lbs of fish stopping power (25lb for size 10). Both size reels have a line clicker function that makes releasing planer boards simple and easy. You can use that feature as a strike detection system while trolling. Gear ratio is 5.1:1 on the size 10 and 5.3:1 on the size 20.
GREAT LINE CAPACITY – KastKing kept these fishing reels as compact as possible while still providing tons of line capacity to anglers using leadcore, heavy braid, or strong monofilament fishing line. The size 10 and size 20 ReKon cast reel will hold over 250 yards of 20 lb. mono or about 10 colors of Micro Leadcore line and over 320 yards of 25 lb. mono or equivalent braided line respectively.
TWO HANDLE OPTIONS – KastKing designed the handles to be different on the two models for a reason. The size 10 ReKon is mostly for Kokanee, Walleye and Trout so KastKing included a comfortable, double paddle handle with EVA grips. The larger size 20 reel has a single Power Handle with a comfortable round knob that gives more leverage for larger fish and longer retrieves for Salmon, Steelhead, Lake Trout, Striped Bass, or other uses such as a catfish reel that require more fishing line.

Q:
Will the rekon level wind trolling reel be a good reel to handle catfish under hundred pounds?
Answer: I'm sure the reel can handle catfish. The main feature of this reel is the line counter making it ideal for trolling, especially with a down rigger or using lead core line. That technique is used primarily for trout and salmon, although you could also pick up a bass too. Do you need the line counter for catfishing? Maybe you'd be better served with a standard bait casting reel or spinning reel instead.
Answer: Absolutely I bought 1 on a win liked it so much I sold my 3 Diawa and bout 3 more I troll the great Lakes for walleye and silver fish reels are rock solid line counters are accurate

Do these have a braking mechanism that will prevent backlashes? I've only used one KastKing in the past and had to return it due to constant backlashe
Answer: This reel is not intended to be cast more of a trolling reel. It does have a braking system to prevent backlash while deploying line though.
Answer: It has a star drag and the spool tighten knob... I use mine for trolling if your familiar with level wind reels you should not suffer a backlash problem
Answer: I got it out of the box spooled it and then next time I went to use it didn’t work it broke. I have a okuma now that works great and has a one year warranty.
Answer: No it doesn’t You need to keep your thumb on it
Q:
Buying this for the line counter; casting for bass/lake trout from inflatable boat, w ocassional trolling. What inexpensive rod to pair w this?

Amazon Customer : Line counter didn’t work.
Disappointed with this reel. The line counter didn’t work well. While letting line out I would notice it was not counting line out. If I reeled in say 10 ft or so it almost never counted it. I do lots of trolling and depth is critical. Had to return it. Love Kastking products but this one didn’t work. ????
Tua : Love it!!
I actually bought the reel to use for live bait fishing off the piers in the Bay Area (California) for California Halibuts, Striped Bass, Sturgeon and so far I'm loving this product. It gots the power hand, clicker and that nice smooth 30lbs of Max drag. About to go on a Rockcod and LingCod charter boat soon. Can't wait to try it out on the open sea.
AK Young : Nice for the price.
Item came on time and as advertised, no complaint yet, not yet used.
JoeFifenyak : New or Used???
This is my 5th Kastking reel. Having just received it a couple of days ago my observations are limited. It feels like a good solid reel like my other Kastking reels but package contents disappointed me. Arrived without the usual instructions and type of packing that I am used to from Kastking. Makes me wonder if I got an ‘open box’ item instead of brand new. I’m considering returning it.
Ron : Poor Drag and overall poor quality of build.
I really like this real and features for the money. I was highly disappointed on my first trip the handle fell apart. I lost the bolt that holds the ball on to the handle axle and only by chance was able to save the ball before it floated away. I went to Ace Hardware and found a plastic rivet that fits in real nice where the lost bolt lived before. I epoxied the ball back on with the black rivet from Ace that will not back out like the factory bolt did. It actually looks real nice but I hope there are no other parts that are going to fall off the reel on my second use. If any parts come off the reel it will be getting a free trip to Las Vegas where all of Amazon returns go for my neck of the woods.
Well follow up I am too late to return this reel. It is pure junk. The handle fell apart like I described and now that I actually have caught a few fish on it I find the drag is terrible. It is very sticky and not smooth at all. It kind of jerks when fight is being applied. I am throwing this reel in the trash heap and getting a decent reel from Penn or Bass pro that has a real drag.
justin miers : Quality
Have only used a few times. Does ok. You can tell by use its cheap. But cost is also cheap. Drag system is plastic, knob handle is foam so i know it wont last long, and line counter reset button spring already sticks one one reel of the two i bought. Used 6 times now. I would personally spend the extra $40 for a higher quality reel next time
Hill : Wouldn't recommend
Tolerance between spool and frame is so great that if any slack in line can cause line or in my case wire go between the frame and spool and get stuck! Garbage product.. usually love kastking but they cut a big corner with this one
Duped : HORRIBLE LINE COUNTER. Don’t do it! Okuma Magda is superior!
Bad product. Absolutely TERRIBLE quality counter and that’s the only reason to buy the reel. Extremely inaccurate. 100’ measure anywhere from 106-126 on the counter. Okuma Magda pro 20 is dead in every time for comparison and it’s the definition of value reel. The middle number 1 on the counter Is also peeled and unreadable. The drag is also suspect and very inconsistent. I will return immediately.
doug : works as a reel.
purchased thru amazon 6/20 counter skipped when new. level wind stopped after reeling in 3 or 4 haddock from 230 ft. the reel still works, but not as intended.
Tdietz : Great product
Been looking for a good line counter for trolling walleye. Price is reasonable, not paying an arm & leg for a reel and it’s lightweight! Can’t wait to try it out this spring!
SodaDrinker : Run don't walk away
When this reel arrived it looked great, and then I attempted to use it. I spooled the line, took it out fishing. The first decent fish I hit the gears in the reel that prevented it from allowing the line from going back out stopped working, so there was no way to keep the fishing from running back out. Stay away from this reel..
Mike B : Great reel and Great price
This is a quality reel for a great price. It does the job and I am very satisfied with this purchase.

Najee-O'Neal Cherry : Great reel for the money
Product is nice, lightweight and easy to use, my only issue at this point (since I haven't fished it as yet) is that even with the clicker off, the reel makes a clicking sound, but I guess that can be seen as an advantage to some people
P.s the line capacity for 65lb braid is less than stated
Fished this reel with a 2 oz kastmaster and I noticed that in a situation where you get a bird's nest, that the line loops around the bottom nob of the levelwind and applies great pressure on the fishing line. This may cause you to lose your lure.
P.s the anti reverse bearing is not instant and allows for about 6-8 inches of line play
Also this is a slow retrieve reel which is good for me when using swim baits or other jiggs
BS1165 : Not bad
A little bit heavier than I that it would be. Haven't gotten to use it enough to see how it would hold up.
Shavor : DURABLE HEAVYWEIGHT REEL
Looks and feels durable, nice winding sounds, durable parts, line counter seems a little off though. High-quality handle knob, it feels good in the hand. You'll get more bird-spools if you use braid on this reel, but with practice, it can be reduced.
SodaDrinker : Run don't walk away

Sterling Spears II : A Beautiful Reel
If you're like me and have an addiction to fishing style, this reel will definitely accessorize. For the price, it's a great reel. If you're just getting in to catfishing or heavy fishing, read up on how to use it properly so you can give it an adequate review. Very similar to my ming yang, just modernized. Regardless, both enjoy hitting the war zone of the Tennessee. You won't regret it.

Todd Osborne : Excellent So Far
I have only recently received this reel, shipping was slow. But it appears to be an excellent value, and I look forward to using it for many years to come.
Jon Mann and Susan Mann : Quality not what I expected
I have approx 20 KastKing spinning & casting rods and reels. Have been a big fan and loyal to them for the price and value. Bought 8 of these line counter reels for the new striper trolling season, have used them about a dozen times now and three of them are already broken. 2 of the line counters have stopped working and on 1 of them the level line guide will not move (we caught a big striper with the reel and I think it broke fighting that fish). Very disappointed in these reels and KK for not doing a better job. Looking to buy some new sPenn reels ASAP to replace these
Stan J. French : Great value for money
I've had very good experience using KastKing reels before, but this is my first bait caster (with line counter). I'm fishing more now with my kayak and trolling with a downrigger so this is the ideal reel for that. I looked at Abu Garcia and Shakespeare but found the KastKing used better materials for much less spend. I'm not sure yet about the durability since I just got it, but looks well built.
Steve R. : Reel does the job.
First time out with it yesterday. Caught a nice salmon. The reel performed as expected but the line counter had to be reset nearly every time.
Tdietz : Great product
Been looking for a good line counter for trolling walleye. Price is reasonable, not paying an arm & leg for a reel and it’s lightweight! Can’t wait to try it out this spring!
erroll scruggs : Solid Reel
I purchased the Rekon 20 reel for my first deep water fishing trip and it performed really well. I was very light considering the size of the reel. I purchased a 2nd one for my wife.
Angel : Good value reel
These reels are good for the money. I bought two for walleye fishing. First, definitely bigger then what I imagined. Second, the star drag is very finicky. It seems like I am always adjusting it. Might be the fact that I am using them to troll with Plano boards. Third, the clicker is very loud so it will definitely alert you when you have a "fish on". Lastly, they are well built and light weight. I don't see there being a problem with these reels lasting a long time. Overall I feel they are a great value for the price. I have caught many walleye already with these reels and have had no problems.
Jon D. : JUNK - do not buy
Right out of the box the line counter did not work and then seemed to work occasionally after tinkering with it. When cranking the reel it would work smoothly and then seem to bind up and turn really hard for a few turns. This thing is worthless. Spend your money on another reel.
Other things I noted but had nothing to do with quality - very loud reel, mostly plastic, bigger than it needs to be.
gary larson : I love this reel
Nice very nice reel
A.J. : Awesome reel at an awesome price!
This thing is awesome! The 20 series is a big reel, but not too big... and I really like the power handle, which isn't available on the smaller version. The drag feels super smooth and the clicker has a good sound to it. I've got a little over 1000 ft of 50 lb. (.040 dia) braid on it and there is not too much room for any more line. Really can't ask for more in a line counter reel... Especially at this price.
The Beav : Great looking real
I purchased the ReKon 10 LH. The real is a little bigger than I expected. It is well build and solid. It works as advertised and will be a great new addition to my tackle box!
Sarge : Not so great as others have described
So this reel isn’t the smoothest reel I’ve ever used but I and using a braided lead core line. The biggest reason I give it a 3 star value is the line counter sucks! From the box the first use the line counter only worked for the release of the line but doesn’t return the count (not one number) when retrieving the line. So you have to remember to put to zero every time before letting out again.
Ron : Poor Drag and overall poor quality of build.

Brian J. Miller : KastKing Rekon
Great reel for the price. I’ve only had it a few weeks but I have fished it heavily since I got it. Seems to live up to its reviews so far. Not only sharp looking but performs well. More plastic parts than a Shimano Tekata, but not really in places that count. I’m assuming this cuts down costs and weight but doesn’t effect the overall product functionality.
Amazon Customer : 2 for 2, unreliable line counter
The first reel was returned to Amazon because the line counter was unreliable. Very often, it would just stop counting. If I were to lightly touch the reset button it would start again, only to count 20 to 30 feet more and stop again. It might be worth noting that the package was slightly damaged and you can tell the counter is what had tried to poke through the cardboard. The second reel, not much better. I give up, no more KastKing for me. I will just use it where I don't need to know the fishing depth. The packaging also showed some damage, but not as much as the first reel, where the line counter pokes into the cardboard. I do like the reels smooth crank and positive release.
Tim H : Good reel with line counter.
My first line counter reel, good for salt water fishing.
Jdm312 : Birds nest.
Bought the 10 series a few months ago. It technically works, but the free spool lever barely locks into place so if you are reeling and accidentally bump the lever, seriously if you barely touch it, it breaks free and turns your reel into and instant birds nest. This has happened to me twice now and I wish I could still return this reel. Save your money and the headache look for something else.

purchased thru amazon 6/20 counter skipped when new. level wind stopped after reeling in 3 or 4 haddock from 230 ft. the reel still works, but not as intended.
jon g : Good reel
Its a good reel at this price point. I could spend twice as much and have a reel just as good as this one.
Hill : Wouldn't recommend
Tolerance between spool and frame is so great that if any slack in line can cause line or in my case wire go between the frame and spool and get stuck! Garbage product.. usually love kastking but they cut a big corner with this one
Ken Y. : Goo quality for a good price.
I am now just getting into fishing, trolling to be specific. I purchased 2 of these Kastking reels for trolling on both sides of the boat. After reading the specifics as to the quality of the parts that go into building these reels, I was also looking for a reel with a counter and level wind. I think the value for what I paid was well worth it.
The Beav : Great looking real
I purchased the ReKon 10 LH. The real is a little bigger than I expected. It is well build and solid. It works as advertised and will be a great new addition to my tackle box!
Daniel H. : Good quality reels
This is a great reel for the money. I baught two of these reels to troll for Lake Erie Walleye. The reel action is smooth and I love that it has a cast lever rather than a button. The number 10 reel is plenty good for walleye. The number 20 reel is for big game fish.
Gerb Bergen : Great reel!
Really happy with this reel. Feels like a high quality product and functions great. Will buy another.
John Johnloz : Repeat buy
This is a repeat buy I bought one to try on my trolling rods and loved it so I bought another for another custom rod to match the colors on the rod.
matt : Great reel for the money
Using this reel for trolling in the FL Keys. I’ll update how it holds up in the saltwater environment. The only negative I found is that I expected it to be a little bigger. Comparable to other size 20 reels.
IdahoBiker : The verdict is not all the way in yet
At this point I would probably rate the reel around a 3.5 and Kastking support a 5. I was very pleased with the feel of the reel when I first got it, fit and finish seemed really good for the money. However, once I started using it the line counter would just start skipping making the reel useless since I needed a line counter.
I contacted Kastking support via email and they responded in about a day requesting a picture or video of the problem. I sent that info to them and received a prepaid shipping label to send it back to them and received my replacement reel about a week after I sent the original back. They were easy to work with and stood behind their product. The line counter is working so far on the new one but I’ve only tested it a few times at my home going out a hundred feet. It looks like it should be good though and I will update my review if things change.
After some use if it continues to work well I will probably buy one more. Overall I’m happy with the look and feel of the reel, to me it feels solid, and I like the placement of everything on it.
