The last few trips out I have been catching Bass in very shallow water and just wondering what others in the area are finding. Actually I was surprised to catch virtually none in deeper water. Still seems kinda early to be all shallow as everywhere I fished with the exception of Roger Williams which was 56 degress, was around 51 degrees on my electronics. I realize the shallows warm up fast but even before the sun comes out for a while and has a chance to warm up the water Im still getting them shallow. Got out yesterday but didnt take the boat and sure enough there they were in 1 to 2 feet of water and it was chilly. I caught all 6 Bass in the last 20 or so yards of my retrive. I was just interested what others were finding.
Last weekend we got 14 bass in 4-10' water on jerkbaits. The bottom was patchy grass last year. Water temp was 53.
Catching them in deeper water, and right against the shore.
They've moved in to the beach in some areas of the pond I fish, but not all. Mostly where it is a sandy sloping bottom.
They are holding tight to the beach in a foot of water or less in some places.
Where the shore is rocky and loaded with dormant vegetation, they still seem to be on the outer edge of the shelf where it transitions from 3 or 4 feet to six feet.
Except for three nine foot holes, the pond is only six feet deep.
Super super shallow. Largies are in less than a foot of water when the sun is out. The brownies have been on shallow (less than 3 feet) wind-blown banks. And with the weather this weekend, more will push up.
I agree Tin. Its gonna be fun!
So if the bass are in super shallow water, will they be close to cover mostly, like docks and overhanging branches.
would you chase them with senkos jigs and flukes
Yea it has been a jig-fishermans dream when the sun is up and the weather is above 50*. Just throw your jig at anything that gives shade and they are there. Even on the nights it gets colder wait until about 2pm or so and they start to move up.
The smallies have all been eating the Smithwick as fast as I can rip it. One thing about this spring has been you don't need to fish slow to catch fish.
Note....I actually caught a Lake Trout out of Beach Pond on the CT/RI line from under a dock on a tube. Still can't believe it. I guess they are native in there and are very few left. I just know it definitely wasn't a brook, brown, or bow and was definitely not a salmon. Or so the CT game Worden said... :-/

WTH do you know? Don't listen to him Anthony, he knows squat! : ;D
We are finding them shallow, but not till the peak warming hours of the day.
The fish we've caught deep have been "belly on the bottom" deep. We were marking fish on the bottom, 16 ft, they would not take a drop shot, didn't catch one till I put on a shakey and my buddy used a jig. I'm talking ON THE BOTTOM.
Thats all about to change though, they won't be there after this weekend.
I take it back. Hit two big largies in Beach today in 30' on the drop-shot. lol
Ok now that I have more time....
Started at 8am on Beach Pond. Went right to my usual drop-shot spots in 25-35' of water and instantly hooked up with a couple 3 change largies on the first 3 drops on a tree. Then the sun burned everything off and it got bright so I decided to go run shallow with fluke (slick calm, and not a cloud in the sky. wasn't even going to try for a hard bait bite). And just loaded the boat with smallies ranging from 2-3 pounds. I had one that was almost eye-level with me when it came up. Nothing like watching smallies destroy your bait or calm shooting in from 20' away to eat it. Talked to a couple others and they all had smallies first thing in the am and couldn't get anything else going. And there had to be about 14 guys trolling for trout doing the same lap around the lake... :
Sounds fun DB, I haven't even fished a SM pond yet! > :'

Just south of the Mass line in CT.....shallows 2:00pm-ish and hugging the rocky banks of the Housatonic river but not many takers.
Fished the Blackstone CF ramp yesterday. Caught all our fish in the shallows in still water. Temps got all the way up to almost 70 degrees! Again all fish were in 1-2 feet of water. Fish were quite active and were chasing spinnerbaits and Lake Fork Shad. No bigguns but they were there somewhere. Looks like they are going to start making their beds any day.
I think they need a little more stable weather Anthony. Going from upper 30's Thursday morning to mid 80's the past couple days is tough. It is supposed to drop off to highs in the low 60's come Weds too. So this warm-up will be offset by night lows in the upper 40's. They usually always stick to the moon phases up here to. You will see sparatic fish but as soon, but around the week before the full moon, the waves come.

I agree, I guess I was getting a little too anxious . Especially seeing how this morning is 40 degrees cooler than it was 3 days ago! Sheeeezzz. This is just like last spring.
I say 2 weeks you will find bed-fish and lots of them in southern RI.
Last evening, Tin found them with a jerkbait on wind blown shorelines and points and in four hours he had close 30 fish with a mixed bag of smallmouth, largemouth and a few walley to boot, including a 3/4lb beauty! I found one smallmouth on a swim jig and a HUGE serving of stubborn pie (yes stubborn, not humble pie ) refusing to throw the jerkbait and throwing the jig and 7" slammer the majority of the time. I had a few biggun's roll on the slammer but they weren't ready to fully commit. I was completely convinced I could pick up the big one..........WRONG! :-/
I think even I heard Mr Waddles laughing at me! :-[ ;D
Had a great Mike and hope to do it agin soon! I'll post the pic's later this evening.
Here's what I have observed the past two days. I'm not sure how to interpret it, since it's the first time I have actually observed this behavior.
Since I hadn't fished in more than 30 years 'til last July, this is new to me.
It is apparent they spawn where I launch my canoe. It is shallow with a rocky, sandy, gravel bottom. There are small tufts of grass and vegetation here and there.
Yesterday, the low lying rocks were covered with sandy bottom material. I assume the bass are stirring up the bottom in the process of making a bed or beds.
In one area, two bass, 1.5 to 2 pounds each are cruising the area. There is one spot to which they consistently return. They cruise four or five feet away, to slightly deeper water, then return to that spot, which is no more than a foot deep. Sometimes they cruise side by each, at other times one will leave, the other may follow, and then return.
They obviously are paired up.
In an area ten feet away, a group of four to eight dinks seem to be holding, but they just mill around a bit. They do not exhibit the "restless repeating behavior" of the larger pair.
There is a convenient clump of trees. From behind this, I can lean against them to observe the behavior without disturbing them.
When I first arrive, all the fish depart. After situating myself behind this clump, they all return within a minute or two, and the "ritual" begins.
My guess is they are in the last stages of their pre spawning ritual.
Maximum water temps in the pond 67 - 68 degrees. No doubt warmer in the shallows along the shore.
On Tuesday, I caught a lot of bass along the shore. Yesterday, I tried different areas with different bottom structure and cover, that was not productive at all.
These areas, while as rocky as the other areas, also have a mucky bottom. Mucky meaning that if the lure gets close to the bottom, it returns with dark gunk, which may be a good sized wad, to a bit hung up on the knot.
The bass in my avatar was caught in one of these areas on a jig last Friday. Caught several others from this bottom as well.
Very slow since then.
Caught two on the Rage Tail Toad in 3 - 4 feet of water, but not even interest close to the vegetation around the edges.
Will give the areas where they were hitting on Tuesday a shot today to see what happens.
Yes Rhino I am seeing the same thing. Was out yesterday at Stump pond and even though it was a chilly day the water temp on my electronics was a consistant 65 degrees. Bass were in the shallows cleaning out spots to bed. If it wasnt for this big cold front thats going to be hanging around for a while they wouldnt be far off from the spawn. Unfortunatly this will delay them more.

Stump pond in Westboro?
If so, how'd you do.
I went once last year, sometime in September. Did ok, but nothing great. Fairly gusty westerly wind limited my fishing in the stumpy part of the pond. Caught a few in the clear water around the grass mats.
Want to try it again this year. On a weekday. I hear it gets a lot of pressure on weekends.
Just a few of Mike's fish from the other day.

What Side is the T on.. Big or small. I was supposed to have a small tourney with the guys at work.. want to make sure we can fish the small side..
You feeling ok Matt? I've been feeling it for months man, get out there!
QuoteAin't been out in weeks... just not feeling it. :-/
It seems Anthony was right about the beds. Fished Norton Res yesturday and found a ton fresh beds w/males under a pound on them. Water temps were 60* and rose to 62* by noon time. Not a fish in the boat over 2lbs, almost like a prespawn phase. Every boat I talked to was stuggling, numbers and size wise. The biggest fish was around 3lbs, which is extremely small for Norton. Should make for a nice T on the 17th though.

Thanx man. I just seem to be up to my armpits every weekend with projects. Roof on the parents house, mother in law needs my truck, on and on and on... I just came back from California and I need another vacation already.
I understand, boy do I!!!
Offer stands...you have my number...just show up and fish, no worries!!!
ajr
Thanx Alan, will let you know. So far I've only caught two smallies this year. It's friggin' May already... >
Hit EP Res last evening from 4 to 11pm with my good friend Matt. Twenty years of fishing together but, never one outing on Turner. Water temps were around 64* wind was on and off throughout the night and guessing from 5mph to 10ph. Matt was getting into them early throwing a black Blue Senko into the pads. He had 5 fish in the boat on that friggin Senko ::)while I had zero, before the thought of purposly running into a stump to send him overboard entered my mind ;D They were all cookie cutters in the two pound range but, still skunking me on the Senko! I continued to flip a T-rigged craw immatation with full confidence I'd get into them soon enough. We worked all wood hard to no avial. We returned to the pads just as the sun was setting and found them one after another for a total of around 15 LM with the biggest in the 3lb range. Once the moon got hidden by the clouds and the lightining started the pad bite seemed to die, so we returned to flippin and skippin to wood and brush heading back to the launch. It paid off quite nicley for me and finally got my revenge on that SSB! Totals for the evening were well into the 20's, and I finally ended up getting into some quality fish. I got 6 fish on our way back all over 3.5lbs and it went something like this; 3.6# 3.8# 3.11# 4.2# 5# and a nice 6lber to round it off! :oGreat times on the water with good a friend is hard to beat! Pic's aren't the greatest but here's a few of the bigger fish.
Fished Indian Lake saturday in the Bostich Bass anglers open. Great bunch of guys. Most everyone had a great day. I found all mine in the shallows and in 3 to 4 foot flats. The winner had around 14 lbs. I got my limit but they just werent big enough to make a rund at it. Again I saw a ton of new beds but no one was home. Hitting Echo Lake on monday to prefish for tuesday night Tourney. I was there last week but it was brutal with the cold front that came in. Hopefully its better this week.
AND THEN THERE WAS ........ONE!!!!!!!!!! :

Dam! I use to love fishing Bostitch stuff. But didn't get there schedule this year. Could you please pm it to me Anthony? Thanks
It's May 10th, and all I have to show is two smallies. This time last year I had almost 25 LMB and my PB 7.5.
Headed out on monday with John C and was scooled in bed fishing, lol. Saw a ton of smalies guarding beds. Larry Largies were staged just a bit off the beds and didn't want anything to do with us. Caught a bunch of smaller largemouth and one 3-4 pounder each. Smallies were much easier to catch and were aggressive as usual. I had a GREAT day and can't thank john enough for taking me out to catch some smallies. It had been a while.
QuoteAND THEN THERE WAS ........ONE!!!!!!!!!! :
ROTFLMMFAO!!!!! IT TOOK A WHILE BUT I GOT IT, LOL.
Fished Echo last night with the Tuesday night tourney guys up north and once again had a great time. Great bunch of guys who can really fish. Found a sweet spot where they were staging up at the 1st drop off and had a good night. Me and my partner Bobby finish a very respectable 3rd place with 6 fish and almost 10 pounds. Thanks again guys for putting together a great T.
I've got a T on a Cape Pond this coming Sunday, and never fished it before. I pre-fished it yesterday w/my friend Matt. This place made GS seem like way to much work to even bother fishing again. The water clarity isn't even close to GS but, the numbers and quality of fish were amazing! Water temps in the 60-62 range, the wind was absolutely nasty, blowing SSE around 25-30mph all day with gust that seemed to be aroung 40mph at times. 3-6ft of H20 was were the majority of fish seemed to hold. Plucking some off of beds, and others were aggressively feeding. Saw a few cruisers in the 7lb range Matt ended up with around 26 fish total with a 4lb LM kicker but lost a SM in the 5-6lb range :-/ I eneded up w/9 LM and 13 SM for a total. Fishing was pretty much non-stop all day. We also caught some huge yellow perch and pumkinseed, in addition to Matt catching a Brown bullhead :-? We also doubled up a few times which always a blast. Can only hope to have as good of a day on Sunday, though with a different partner, we should still be able to load the boat. Average winning weight for this place is between 17-19lbs and who ever boats a kicker in the 5-6lb range will most likely take the prize. My camera is pretty much shot and I can no longer tell what I'm taking pic's of, so here's just a few.
One of our dbls
And my biggest catch ogf the day, though Matt wasn't as thrilled! ;D
I found some last night... 8-)
QuoteI found some last night... 8-)
Nice!!!!
On second thought... you guys can keep those green fish. I'm having a blast!!!
Good Job Guys I am loving those Smallies.
Fished the T yesterday on the Cape. T started @ 6:45(2 different members got stopped and ticketed, reason for the late start) Had my lmit by 7:20 AM and by 8:15 AM I was culling, 8-) Caught them all on a T-rigged craw imatation in 4-6' of H20. Cold front moved in around 10:30 and the shallow bite died. Went over to the dropshot but, shortly after snapped the tip off my finesse rod and the dropshot went by the waist side which really hurt me! :
Came in with 15.95lbs for 3rd place missed 2nd by 2oz's : ;D However, I did manage to get the lunker @5.95lbs with a 12 boat field
Great day with the new club and the best bunch of guys I've ever had the pleasure of fishing against. Can't wait for the next one!
Found them yesterday all up tight. Around 18 LM all in the 1 1/2-3lb range. At 1st we thought they were bucks on beds but couldn't know for sure due to the extremely stained water and cloud cover. About 3 hour in we saw them schooling up on shad. Most caught on the crazy legs craw pegged w/a 3/16th Tung to this point. I switched to a shad pattern LC Gun fish after going through a full bag of crazy's and the real fun began. Extremely aggressive, and coming back for more, even after feeling the hook. I don't beleive we missed the spawn here but, I could be mistaken. I'll be heading back looking for the females later in the week.
We've been finding both large and smallmouth every place we've been fishing. Near beds, deep, shalow, flats etc. Most places the spawn is done or close to it. Been seeing tons of fry with moms and dads not far behind. Caught numerous 3 and 4's with 3 5+ pounders thrown in. Fished friday through monday and killed them every day.
d**n I must really suck.Me and a buddy went to a new pond in plymouth on friday started the day with two 2 pounders right off the start and that was about it for the rest of the day. Clear water really messed me all up along with the sandy bottom. I threw everything i had at them and no luck. It was really windy too. Oh well live and learn. :-/
Man I must really suck. A buddy and I went to a new pond in plymouth on Friday. He started out with two 2 pounders almost immediately and then nothing over 12 inches the rest of the day.The clear water really messed with me along with the sandy bottom.I threw everything I had and nothing. The wind was relentless.Oh well live and learn.
Hit a new pond on the Cape yesterday with Brandon(bestnetmanaround)f from 6:30 to 2pm. It was pretty much now stop all day. Water temps in the 63-65* range w/winds starting around 5mph and picked up to 25mph or so around 1pm. The morning bite was mostly largies w/smallies turning on in the afternoon. All fish were caught anywhere from 6"-8' of H2o. Very interesting pond to say the least. Some areas were crystal clear with sand and gravel, with other areas murky, dark and grassy. I was told this was a quantity waterway, not quality, and that held true for most of the day. We even ended up with our 1st triple double ever! My thumbs are absolutely mangled! 34 keepers caught, and many more under 12", with a few nce size white perch and very chunky slabs to boot. 19 total for me and 15 total for Brandon. Absolute blast hanging with Brandon and watching him get better and better with each outing. If I remember correctly I got 2 in the 4lb range, 2 in the 3lb range and 1 just under 3lbs for my best five that went 16.24lbs, I beleive Brandon's best 5 was around 11lbs. Now if I can just get him to stop landing those branch fish, he'll be well on his way! Always great having Brandon in the boat considering the little time he has available now, due to the recent birth of his son.
Here's a few pic's w/the cell.
Well, didn't exactly turnout like I hoped but, a very busy day to say the least. Water temps in the 65-70*, winds were calm around 7mph for the intire day, fog at the start that eventually lead to bluebird skies. While pre-fishing last Monday I marked the times 3 specific females had moved into their beds hoping it would pay off for the T, fortunately it did. So, at take off I headed for 2 spots within 100 feet of each other that were very close to the ramp hoping I could get there before the other teams because I was the only one w/o a gas motor as well as being the only sigle boater. Every boat just blasted right by. The prime time was 8AM which meant sitting and gaurding the area for about an hour. 7:55am I watch the 1st one move right on up, and before she settles I flip to her. The lure never hits the bottom and she's in the boat and goes almost 4lbs! I move 50ft down the shoreline and #2 is already there. I flip, she inhales it and swims around the 2x2 boulder on the back of the bed and I'm now holding a lureless rod, watching a 4-5lber swimming into the deep: ( took me 30 minutes or so and a full box of tissues to get over that one. Move to bed #3 she's also there yet, spooky as all get out, and after an hour of trying different angles and lengths of cast she was gone. All three beds were in 5-8' of H20. Knew that was going to hurt at the weigh-in. Continued to fish beds the rest of the day with 32 total fish caught, 25 keepers and and a culling nightmare of 1.3's and 1.4's. 15 minutes left of the t I cull out my last 1.4 for a 2lber praying that was enough. Couldn't believe how many people seemed perplexed that I was still fishing beds, and I'm pretty sure the advice helped a few other boats which almost put me out of the money. Stuck with the same 2 lures as I did in the last 3 T's and starting to think I need no others. I believe 1st place was 13+ and I came in 2nd w/10+ and a 3.12lb lunker for $172.00, 3rd was around 9lbs and a lunker that went 3.60lbs. Side note Back to Gamma, I had tried Segar Invis-x fluoro on the spinning gear which I loved. Shouldn't have trie it on my casting gear, because that was the line that snapped around the rock which cost me 1st place. XPS Fluoro does stain up a bit after a few uses, but much stronger than the Invis-X! Might even be time to go back to spending the money on Gamma yet, XPS 17lb test is the diam as others 15lb test and have had great results with it to date, even in the clearest of water. As disappointed as I was that Hoist-N-Hawgs fell apart, I'm thrilled to have found this club. W/oa doubt the greatest bunch of guys and the best club I've ever had the pleasure of being a part of!

Thanks Mike, so far so good. That wasn't a dig on anyone or any club. It was purely how I felt/feel and sorry if you took it that way. You know I would have loved to fish with you, as well as against you. I'm really enjoying the small boat club and the Cape ponds are treating me very well. The idea of fishing off the back of someone elses boat after years of fishing out of my own, just didn't do it for me. I'm having a banner year in addition to my best weights ever. It's been quite the challenge diciding to fish most of these T's alone against 7-10 other teams, but it's definately making me a better fisherman. Besides that, there's also no need to split my winnings ;D which helps offset the price of gas, gear and lures.
Just pre-fished the Agawam river on Wednesday, that I've only fished once before which was last year and only caught one fish. This outing produced 14 total and my best five going 3, 3.3, 310, 3.12 and 3.14 for 17.30lbs. All post spawn female envelopes which if full at least 3 of them would have gone 5lbs a piece. My buddy Matt got about the same numbers but only about 8lbs on his best five tossing the Senko. It's about time I beat up on the Senko! ;D Smallest bag out of my last 5 trips has been 10.25 on a numbers pond not a quality fish pond, but still managed 2nd and lunker. The other outings produced bags going 14+ 15.+, 16+ and the 17.30. With out a doubt the Crazy Legs Chigger, is responsable for the weights and has given me a tremendous amount of confidence. Though, I will take some credit for the recent success. Just becuase you put a high quality gun in someone's hand, it doesn't mean they're going to hit the target.
I've only been taking 3 poles, 2 Cumara's; one w/the Crazy legs chigger pegged w/3/16oz for flippin or dragging and one w/the Crazy leg chigger on a pegged 7/8oz Tungsten for matt punching, both on 17lb XPS fluoro, and a Frog Sloshing St Croix Mojo Bass with the Spro Bronzeye frog or 7" Slammer on 20lb XPS fluoro, and that's it. Good thing I ran out and bought a St Croix Premeire and Sahara reel after selling you the Cumara! ;D Though, it came in quite handy for aggravating the heck of bedding fish w/a chartuese tube.
Here's the current club standings:
1st Place- Tanner and Keith- 5550 pts.
2nd Place- Paul A. - 5350 pts.
3rd Place- Dave R. and Jeff- 5325 pts.
4th Place- Dan and Mike D.- 4875 pts.
5th Place- Matt S. and Steve-3200 pts.
6th Place- John N. and John -1725 pts.
7th Place- John B. and Joe -1475 pts.
8th Place- Mark and Judy -1300 pts.
9th Place- Nick M. -1175 pts
I'll be hitting Stafford in the next few weeks to give the CLCC a try there as well and I'll let you know how I made out. The new color has produced quality fish on every body of water so far, and It matches the forage left in the live well @ Stafford even better. Maybe we can get out there together?
Good luck with the rest of your T's, I know you'll do well.
Peace!
QuoteQuoteQuoteQuoteI'm thrilled to have found this club. W/oa doubt the greatest bunch of guys and the best club I've ever had the pleasure of being a part of!Wow dude, #ick move. :-/
How is that a #ick move, as you so eloquently put it? ;D I was was being sincere, something you're obviously not fimiliar with. Shall I apologies for complimenting the new club.......NOT! : I'm gueesing you're still PMS-ing from finishing at the bottom of the field in the Stafford open. My sincere condolences!
Paul
I for one am glad you found some were that you fit in...congrats.
Just goes to show there's a Place for everyone..
Good luck with your new club.
Gheeeeeeees, for a minute there I almost thought you were being sincere. ;D And yes, there is a place for everyone. As far as fitting in, I'd be more than happy to compare history, background and quality of friends any day. The dig is also just more proof of your lack of respect, class and professionalism. Rather than following through and living up to your word and end this, you choose to drag it out for over 7 months and pass the buck. Quality attribute! ;)You obviously need it more than me.
I wish you all the best just the same.
QuoteWell, I am sorry about that, really.....but I still don't know what you mean. Hope you feel better.
I was just messin w/ya Alan! Good luck this year!
I was being sincere. You can take it any way you wish
You seem to forget that you were not entitled to a refund of your dues I offered it in an effort to try to be fair. I told you when I saw you I would give it to you. I never saw you so I sent it with some that did see you on a regular basis. But you alienated him along with many others
I felt no Need to search you out to give you something that you were not entitled to.
As far as Professionalism. I have organized more local and state level and divisional tournaments than you can even think of doing and when I do it always takes place can you say the same. I think not.
As far as a lack of respect. My comment was sincere. I do have a great deal of respect for a lot of people. Your just not one of them.
Again good luck in your new club.
I have fished with john for the last three years, in the same club and have never had a problem. You Paul are the only one who seems to have a problem with him and countless others. Fishing alone in that club is probaly the only reason your happy with it because you have problems with everyone you come in contact with.
Paul I have never had an issue with you. But I know that comment you made was a jab at all of us in the club, myself included. You have been a good friend to me and we have had some great trips together but you are way out of line in my opinion.
There is ZERO reason to bring things up just to bring them up and attempt to make someone look bad. Most of which the information is false or rumor anyway. John has been like family to me since I was about 14 and he is one of the best guys around. He is professional and would do anything for anyone despite what you may have heard. He is the biggest reason why the TBF got started in Rhode Island and why it is successful and growing so rapidly. John puts on great tournaments and the clubs he runs are top-notch with some of the best competition around.
No offense but have you ever stopped to think of why you have been through so many clubs and so many friends? It seems as though everytime we catch up you have a new problem with someone or some group for high-school like reasons. You need to learn to believe non of what you hear and half of what you see. If you did, you would have had a a great time in this club.

Hope it's OK that I used it Johnny.
All I know is I love the club and cant wait to get to New York and git me some Smallies!!!!
Jeez, this went from an interesting thread that was interesting to compare reports to my results to a bunch of dirty laundry. you guys should take this off line.
QuoteJeez, this went from an interesting thread that was interesting to compare reports to my results to a bunch of dirty laundry. you guys should take this off line.
Yup, it's called tournament fishing in Rhode Island. It is always drama and bs and I hate having to be a part of it and try to stay out. But some things are just not right.
Mike you couldn't be more wrong about my statement being a jab at you and or the club. What reason would I have to take a jab at you? I considered you a good friend, it makes no sense. I've been over the HH club thing a long time ago other than the $$? The same post is up on multiple sites, which started with my facebook page and I just copied it from there. As far as the jabs, JC took the 1st swing and I followed up. Believe what you want, throw all the insults you want, I know the truth and so do you. Speaking of the truth.... Mike you wanna throw me under the train, you were the 1st one to tell me, JC and I would butt heads, becuase of his attitude and he rubs people the wrong way, Shall we get into what you told me about him the last time we were out? NO need!
The only difference between me, you Jigga and JC is whatever I have to say about someone, I've already said their face. I've only been part of 2 clubs that I quit, get your info right. The 1st one I left due to the littering that occured and a crappy schedule, which you also laughed at and bad mouthed, sounds a bit hypocritcal to me. I stiill have that email so go ahead and deny it. The reasons for dropping out of JC's which I nevr even fished a T,was due to the butting heads, his incoherant rant, and having to fish out of the back of someone elses boat. I had an issue with another member that was unfortunatley put in the middle of myself and JC. Issue, with CA for baiting me into a trip and abandoning me, the issue with BQ, well so do you and lots of others! I stick up for myself when I feel I've been wronged, not hide. So tell me all the others I've had issues with? You took my post and either was lead into believing it was a jab or feeling defensive. The last time we were on the water I never mentioned the money, or JC. I understand the rallying around John 100%, and if you believe that I was taking a gab with my statement, you don't know as well as I thought. Take a look back at some of the other post by members complimenting their new club or the guys they fished against, even in this thread there are a few. I don't see ya complaining about that. Go ahead and flip back a few pages, it's there. Dump on me all you want, but I didn't start this and I wasn't aware I had to walk on eggshells prior to posting.
Take care and wish you the best.

Name-em! But, I could careless about your opinion.
I'm done defending myself against people who think they know me. I'm also done ruinning a great thread. Post all the false info/rumors you'd like, I won't respond and will just continue to post my fishing trips. Sorry if that's not what you want to hear, but I believe that's what this site is for.
I think this has gotten out of hand......
I will say this before this gets taken down, which it should.
JC has a strong personality Paul as do you, as do I and many others on this board and who fish tournaments. I think I am a good judge of character. I have dealt with people for 25 years in my job and saw "real" bad people. Is JC abrasive at times...yes.
Do I bang heads with him...yes...lots.
Is he head strong about the way he does things and how he feels....you bet. That having been said:
There has NEVER been a time in the year or so that I have known him that he has ever declined a request for help from anyone. His tournaments are full of some of the best fishermen in RI. I hope to be as good as them some day. They flock to John for advice, help, and when it comes to charity, there is no one who does more and says less about it than John. He is all business and loud, no doubt. Remember that someone can only be a dictator if YOU allow them to. When he is wrong...I tell him, so does Mike, and Jigga, and Carl. Problem is, when it comes to fishing, he is not wrong very often. So again Paul, I wish you luck and the best in life and fishing, by I agree with some of the others....you are way off base on this one.
Peace!!

Got out today on Indian. Was hopeing to have a cloudy day all day but that changed fast. Sun came out round 10 30. I got a nice one hanging near a dock in the shallows. I was useing a black power worm 7 inches long with Tru Tungsten bullet weight. Fish weighed a tad over 4 lbs on my hang scale. Got one other one near the docks and called it a day.
Friday I was cooped up in the house and decided to go over to Roger Williams park and do some shore fishing. Fished off the bridge near the old seal pond or whatever it was near the Elmwood ave entrance. Caught 2 NICE ones. They were right under the bridge in the deepest water. Basically everywhere Ive been they are all done with the spawn except for Gortons where I did see a few still on beds. Heading back to RW park later this afternoon.
Had plans to fish with Matt S for the 1st time to do some Cape fishing yesterday, but becuase he's got an upcoming T on Oldham pond in Pemproke MA we figured we check it out. Niether one of us had ever been there before so off we went. On the water around 6am, clouds with rain which was pretty heavy at times, with a light wind, water temps between 68-72. Intersesting pond, and glad we left the gas motor at home. This place has some very decieving obstructions, with sand bars boulders and pillons popping up when you least expect it. Whatched one boat find that out the hard way while blasting by the largest island :-?
Couple of fish around 3lbs and the rest were pretty much cookie cutters around 2lbs. Had a monster nearly rip the rod right out my hands, and while I turned to Matt saying "Holy carp" he came back for a second time, but snapped the line right at the knot. At that point it became a huge pickerel ;D
Ended up with about a donzen fish and the best five going 13lbs. Great fishing with ya Matt and good luck this weekend!
Went out to hit some new water this saturday(finally not raining).Started out on a small pond in foxboro right on rte 1. Bad idea supper thick veg not much open water.
From there hit a pond in Norton much better.Drove by this pond a million times and never even thought to give it a shot.Glad we did though.I have been on the biggest slump of my life.Really so bad I haven't even wanted to fish the last few weeks.
Enough of my sob story. Norton was really good we caught about 12 Larry's between the two of us.I caught a 3 lber so I'm back to being a fishaholic.Sorry no pics.
THIS RAIN SUXS
Haven't been on the water in over a week and I was jones-in. So I took the day off and hit Onley pond. Water temps steady @ 67*, water level very high and stained due to all the rain. Flipped a jig up tight and behind everything I could get into for the 1st 3 hours w/o a tap. Switched over to the flat sided slammer I painted in shad pattern for the next hour twiching it like a jerkbait, only to have a 2lb rainbow take a swipe. Went to the Buzzjet converted to a Trout pattern and got 5 quick ones best around 3-3.5lbs. Decided I'd try the pads w/the Black Bronze eye and got another 5 w/ the biggest going about the same 3-3.5lbs, and missed about 5 more in the pads. Best five went around 11+. Very slow and tough bite yesterday, but still better than working.
ll appologize now just incase the story isn't percise, I'm a walking zombie at this point working on 6 hours sleep since awakening @ 3am on Friday morning.
Hit Singeltary pond in Sutton MA Friday night w/Mattzzz from 5pm until 3am, should have left at 1am. Couldn't tell ya what the water temps were like due to a downed fishfinder.
Wanted to put Matt on some decent SM and LM somewhat close to home. Feaky weather the intire night, everything from rain thunder lightning with bats a million fireflies, an extremeley cold wind which at one point left me shivering. Matt picked up a nice 4lb LM early which was immediately followed by a solid 3lber which were both caught on a watermelon candy chigger craws. Unfotunatley, If I recall that was it for him the rest of the evening. I threw the trout pattern Buzzjet 99% of the time and believe I had arounf 13 LM and SM with the biggest being a LM going 3.3/4 lbs. The bite died off around 1am but we stuck around hoping to increase our best 5 from that I think was around 12lbs. I only picked up one more LM in the last 2 hours. In those two hours the white perch/crappie activity was unbelievable, 1000's of them breaking the surface caoralling bait fish like the hole lake was on e big boiliung pot of H2o.
As always, a ton a laughs and I had a great time fishing w/ya Matt Mat has a few pics he'll post up from the trip. We'll do it again soon Matt! BTW..... We missed you at the T today, hope you'll be at the next one.
The near Cape T today didn't go as planned but, worked out very nice in the end. Had Tanner aboard with me today, and figured we kill-em, wroong! I spent most of the morning punching pads and by 10am we were already culling with a 5lb beauty I hoisted to boot. Oooooooooooh what a day this was going to be Not the case! Sad to say the rest of the day we struggled culling 1.4's though 1.8's and with 2 hours left my batt's were hurtin, I made one last attempt ot go back up stream, 30 minutes in I pick up one going 1.12lbs for a decent cull from 1.8. Dave and Jeff were nice enough to offer us their extra Batt which really helped us out. Without their generousity we would have had to stay in front of the ramp for the next hour or so. My hats off to them
We only hooked into one more fish in that hour but, wasn't even woth the effort. Got off my game plan a bit for the day, but in the long run it really didn't hurt us. We weighed in 11.35 lbs with 5lber for lunker, there was only one boat left to weigh in and as they're transfering we all see what we think is the winning bag that also has a LM in the 6lb range. They hit the scale.........................11.35, SOB%@$$@#!%!!! Their lunker 4.75lbs We break the tie w/lunker lunker by 1/4lb to cap off a very tough day. Had fun fishing with ya today Tanner and thanks for joinigng me. We'll see ya at the next one.
Crappy cell pics of Friday night, then my lunker from today....
Another Buzzjet hawg from Fiday night
Todays lunker
QuoteNot bad for my first striper of the year..38" didn't weigh it,I'd say mid twenty's.Caught on a live mackeral in 40' of water off Wood End.
Awesome fish!
...but boat fish don't count. 8-)
Caught a nice 6lber. at my favorite spot this morning right before the rain. Maybe the weather is turning???

Very nice dude, very nice! 8-)
Double report........

It was a very tough day on the water yesterday. Working on 2 hours sleep once again, I almost fell out of the boat 3 times. It seems continuous lack of sleep may deprive the brain of oxygen, hmmmmmm? who would have thought! LOL By 11:30am the thunder rolled in and I hadn't put a fish in the boat other than 3 catfish. Contimplated pulling out and heading back home to bed.
I threw everything I used to put a decent bag together while preifishing the prior Sunday to no avail. There was actually only one lure left in my arsenal I had never used before and figured it couldn't hurt. Banged out 2 decent Smallmouth back to back withn the 1st few casts. Continued to throw a C-rig for the last two hours and with 20 minutes to go I landed my 5th keeper. I worked extremely hard for these fish and it the other 8 fisherman I spoke to only had 2 or 3 fish. Of course the one team I hadn't seen all day ended up putting together an outstanding weight for a very tough day. Being off kilter and sleep walking, I deside to remove my fish from the livewell from the side of my boat while standing in the water,NEVER EVER DO THIS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE!LOL
My biggest fish makes a running charge and jumps completely out of the livewell over the side of the boat and back to were he belonged, SWIMMING IN THE LAKE! WTH??? I walk away in total depression! About 5 seconds later I hear my fellow competitors yelling" Get him, throw him on the beach" I turn to see what all the comotion is about and low and behold, it's my jail breaking LM swimming in 6 inches of water in front of the ramp, DUMB FISH! LOL They actually corralled him and tossed him on land, WAHOOOOO!!!!!! Unfriggin real, did I mention I love these guys! I weigh in my five fish as do the other teams, but they only have 2 or 3 fish per boat, other than the one boat I never saw all day and they come to the scale with a whopping 14.80lbs on five fish and a lunker Smallmouth @ 5.05. That's two wins in a row for the local team, in addition to bringing another lunker Smallmouth over 5lbs! I ended up w/10.25 for 2nd place.

Worked both day and night on my birthday so I took yesterday off to prefish a lake for the 1st time for an up coming tourney on the 16th. Maaaaaan, we absolutely slaughtered-em! 28 total fish, mostly largemouth weighing 40+ lbs. Gotta love fishing a new lake and everything you do works! My friend Matt had his best outing ever with his best 5 fish weighing 12+lbs. It's always fun watching a non-tourny guy load the boat.
Matt caught about 10 fish himself and I eneded up w/18 total with my best 5 fish weighing 15.9lbs. Our combined best 5 fish went 21.12 lbs! This outing was an oddity for sure. Smallmouth being caught in the shallows on everthing form craws to swimbaits, and Largemouth being caught evrywhere from 18 to 33 ft of water. Caught a few 5lbers, 3 in the 4lb range and a boat load of 3lbers,as well as landing a few trout, 1 Rainbow and 1 Brookie. ;D
Had a great time and lots of laughs.
