Hey Everybody!!
Well, it's almost upon us..the time we have all been waiting for...the 4th NH Get Together.
I'm thinking of doing it on April 23, 2010. Starting around 10 or so.
This is going to be great, but I'm not sure where to do it. I think Spofford is an excellent choice, but I'm not sure how quickly it dethaws/water temps....fmoore? I'm sure that Stumpfield Marsh will be open, but it's tough to fish prespawn. Just digging the bass out of the pickeral!
There is also Haunted Lake (AKA Scobie Pond), and Pleasant Pond in Francestown. Both have adequate ramps, parking and fish. Pleasant has LM and SM, I think Haunted only has LM.
Suggestions anyone? Bow or Northwood Lake?
Feel free to post and let me know. Also, please post if you have are a boater/non-boater. If you do have a boat, please post if you have an open seat.
I'll start.
I have a boat, but I do not have an open seat right now, but that might change.
Depending on how quickly we warm up this spring Spofford should be in the early stages of a pre spawn pattern by that time. Had a tourney on Spofford last year May first and most guys were picking fish off beds while we won by targeting the prespawn bass. So if last year was any indication the fish should be starting to get hungry by the 22nd.
That time of year, there's a very real chance of a 5 pound smallie or 2 from Spofford (and largemouth that size as well) not to mention a very good chance at a 15 pound pike if you target them all day.
I say we go to Spofford, but then again I'm a bit biased
I've always wanted to fish Stumpfield but have never gotten around to it and I really don't know anything about the other places.
I will most likely have an open seat, depending on whether anyone will skip school with me or not
Spofford sounds like the place to me!! The idea of a 5 lb smallie has my mouth watering.....
Everyone else OK with that?
Oh yeah! Any place with 5lb smallies is okay in my book. The only thing right now for me, is Fridays I have to work, but schedule it for whenever, and I'll see what I can do.
I'd be up for changing it to that weekend if it means it is easier for people to make it. I've been putting it on fridays to reduce the chance of boat traffic, but I am really flexible.
Sup guys!
I would love to come but wouldn't be able to make it on a friday. Either Sat or thursday would be the only days I can make it.
I've got to start getting everything ready for the season. It's just around the corner
I wish you guys weren't so far away! I'm in Windham, and thinking maybe we should do one closer to this side of the state, for us guys on the east coast. What does everyone think? We have some great water over here, so a place to go should be easy.
Saturday the 23rd on Spofford WILL NOT work just so everyone knows. That's opening day for trout and the ramp will be filled by 4 or 5 AM. The place is an absolute zoo on opening morning. I try to stay far, far away.
Thanks for the heads up fmoore! I'd still be up for fishing Spofford on Friday, but maybe we should chage the get together to Saturday at Massesecum or Stumpfield. No trout in either of those!
I'd love to fish Spofford Friday. I have a tourney there Sat the 30th so I'll need to do some prefishing anyway.
Either of those two places are good for me Jay. I'd choose Stumpfield just because I've never been there but either way I'm in.
Sounds good fmoore...lets plan on that.
As far as the Get Together, lets go ahead and change the date to 4/23/11 to hopefully open it up for a few more people.
Stmpfield sounds good, but I know it gets busy on the weekends. I'm willing to give it a shot regardless, but I'm open to suggestions.
Anyone know much about Turkey Pond(s) in Concord? Would that work for a small get together?
I believe Turkey Pond just has one cartop launch site. Also, the last time I was there (almost 2 years ago), there was a ton of milfoil.
No, I wouldn't suggest Turkey. The launch is complete crap, the parking's even worse, and I busted two props there last year. It does have some nice bass, and the biggest pickerel I've ever seen (not that I care). For a group get together, no way, but for a few guys hooking up to fish, sure. By the way, I could do the 23rd, but wouldn't be there till around 2:00 or so, because of work.
Yikes. Turkey is off the list, but lets hit it up sometime Shane....in your boat. LOL!
I guess it may have to be Stumpfield Marsh. We know there are a lot of fish there anyway.
I spoke to someone today that claimed to pull BIG bass out of Powder Mill Pond. I'm a little wary of going there again as it's so big and shallow it's tough to fish.
I spent some time at Powdermill after the get together last year as I had a tourney there in October. It does fish tough, but there are some big smallmouth in there in addition to the largemouth. You gotta think outside the box in that place in terms of location.
I'll leave the location of the 23rd up to you guys. Like I said, I'd love to go to Stumpfield but I'm fine with anywhere.
I've never fished Stumpfield, but it's on my list of places to fish this year. Powdermill didn't do much for me, either, but I don't care where we go.
Cool. Let's just do Stumpfield. We know there are good fish there anyway.
Shane, do you have an open seat in the Nitro, or are you full?
wagn, does this help you make it? We need Anglers Inc. !!!
List so far:
Boaters w/ seat: Jay, fmoore
Boats w/o seat:
non-boaters needing seats:
I should be able to make it, but I'll need a seat
I might have a spot for someone, but I won't be there till a little later, so if someone wants to jump in with me when I do get there, that's fine.
OK. Here's the updated list:
List so far:
Boaters w/ seat: TripleD, fmoore, Shane (not there until 2ish)
Boats w/o seat: Jay, wagn(?)
non-boaters needing seats: bwillis
I can't say for sure yet whether I would be able to make it, because I just started a new job, but I'm interested.
In case I can find the time, will someone be able to post directions to the launch? I've never been to Stumpfield Marsh.
What's the official date again? did we decide on one?
Stumpfield is fine by me.
4/23/11 is the date. We can start anytime.
If you can believe it. I'm considering coming in my friend's jon boat with an electric trolling motor. I want to be able to get way back there in the stumps, and I'm afraid to do that to the nitro. Should be fun!!
That's not a bad idea, Jay, just hope it's not windy, and you should be all set. I get in some seriously twisted places in my jon boat!
Me and clr9933 will be there, most likley in our jon boat.
List so far:
Boaters w/ seat: TripleD, fmoore, Shane (not there until 2ish)
Boats w/o seat: Jay, wagn(?), nhbassin w/clr9933
non-boaters needing seats: bwillis, nixstyx(?)
I'm 90% sure I'll be able to make it. I won't have an extra seat.
List so far:
Boaters w/ seat: TripleD, fmoore, Shane (not there until 2ish)
Boats w/o seat: Jay, wagn, nhbassin w/clr9933
non-boaters needing seats: bwillis, nixstyx(?)
I'd love to go
Masshole here
gotta get a license
Need a seat
Mike
Oh yaaaaaa! I'm 99% sure I'll be there. Should also have a buddy with me.
Quote.I spoke to someone today that claimed to pull BIG bass out of Powder Mill Pond. I'm a little wary of going there again as it's so big and shallow it's tough to fish.
Whats up Jay my 4+lber doesn't count as big?
I'm pretty sure I found a couple of pics of a 6 and 8 lber from a tourney there when I was looking for info before last years get together.
4 is Big, but not BIG. That was a sweet fish though.
Hope you make it!
My wife's uncle my be able to attend, and he has a boat, so I may not need a seat. I will update you guys when I find out if he'll be able to make it.
List so far:
Boaters w/ seat: TripleD, fmoore, Shane (not there until 2ish),
Boats w/o seat: Jay anmd Matt, wagn, nhbassin w/clr9933, badcrwdad and buddy
non-boaters needing seats: bwillis(?), nixstyx(?), pudmunk(?)
Who can give me an idea of directions?
My GPS doesnt recognize stumpfield
It's the body of water that Rt 9 crosses just west of the Rt 9/I 89 intersection in Hopkinton.
Try typing in Stumpfield Road, Contoocook NH 03229 in your GPS
Yeah, it's real easy to find. Exit 5 off of Route 89 North. First right after you cross the bridge. Follow signs for the bat launch.
I hope to make it. I should know this week if I can. If I can i could use a seat if ones open but if not I'll car top the 10ft jon boat and trolling motor. A buddy calls it The Death Trap. I've heard the best fishing is just to the left of the launch so maybe a jon boat would work out well there.
Wow, haven't been to this site since last fall. I like the new look. I would be very interested in joining this event. The fact that it is on a Saturday is great for me. I don't own a boat though. Any open seats?
Jay
I'm in southern NH and the 2 ponds local to me, Cobbetts and Canobie, still have at least half covered with ice.
I will be there with my bro-in-law in my tin boat. Can't wait!
I'm actually debating going with my jon, as well. Not sure yet though. The bass boat is so much easier to pitch out of, even if I never fire up the big motor.
Yeah, I'm having the same dilemma. I'm alsio wondering if we should change the location to somewhere that will have been unfrozen longer. I just drove by last Monday and it was completely covered with ice.
thoughts anyone? I know a couple seacoast lakes that have been ice free for a couple weeks.
Interesting thought, Jay, especially for me, since I work in the seacoast region (Newington).
Hey guys i think i will be able to make it the 23rd. I will try to have my boat ready for then, if not i may need a seat. Jay what lakes were you thinking of near the seacoast?
-matt-
OK guys, sorry for the slacking. Here is the current list:
List so far:
Boaters w/ seat: TripleD, fmoore, Shane (not there until 2ish), NHfroggin(?)
Boats w/o seat: Jay anmd Matt, wagn, nhbassin w/clr9933, badcrwdad and buddy, NHbassmaster2(?)
non-boaters needing seats: bwillis(?), nixstyx(?), pudmunk(?), NH fisher, Klubba T
If there is a (?) it means I'm not sure (or you're not sure) about your boat/seat status. Once you know if you are coming, please either send me a PM or just post your status.
It's looking like I may have an open seat in the Nitro, but I'm not positive yet.
I was thinking about Great Pond in Kingston. It's supposed to be great. Anyone fished it?
I fish great pond alot its about 5 minutes from my house..I've pulled some decent fish from there 4-5lbs fishing everything from topwater frogs to deep cranks..usually I get good numbers also. I have fished it from a canoe and a jon boat. It can get busy as there is only one launch maybe 4-5 trailers and I am unsure about parking on the road..i can contact kingstons finest to make sure we can park along the road. I may be taking the boat there friday to make sure everything works good.
-matt-
I've fished Kingston Lake from shore plenty of times (close to where I live). Have had decent luck there. Gets pretty busy there when weather warms up.
this sounds promising.
Hey Matt, I may also be at Great Pond on friday with my friend Matty. We should link up if we are there at the same time. I'll probably be there around 8:00am or so.
Sounds good jay..I will probably be there around 10a if I see your truck ill make a run around the lake and find you.
-matt-
Well, Great Pond seems like it could indeed, be great. The only issues are
1. distance. It's a good 1.5 hour drive for me.
2. It gets busy, and on a Saturday, it might be super busy.
I'll be driving by Stumpfield MOnday. I'll let you know how it looks. It's pretty shallow there, so it should warm up fast anyway.
There is also Pawtuckaway Lake in Nottingham. I fished it last year once got blown around in my old boat but managed a few small mouth. This might be closer for you guys coming from the middle or western part of the state and its right off 101. In clarks it says it has a good ramp and parks 15-30 so we wouldn't have to worry about that.
-matt-
I'd be up for Pawtuckaway. I've never fished it, but I've always wanted to.
I guess we may just have to assume any place is going to be busy on a Saturday and just pick a big enough place where it should not matter. Pawtuckaway and Stumpfield should both fit.
My vote is for Stumpfield. It was mostly iced out a couple of days ago so it SHOULD be all clear by now, and like you said Jaystraw, it will probably heat up quickly since its shallow and has slightly stained water.
Yeah, I guess another vote for Stumpfield from me for this get together.
I has just informed that I have other plans for that day, being the day befor Easter. I was told that I might be able to go out around noon. So I don't know if I'll be making this one.
My vote is for stumpfield. looks like this will be my first time out this year. I'm having a real hard time putting the snowmobile away. This year has been amazing. Still plenty of snow up in the woods of Pittsburg. I'm headed up Thursday coming back Friday night. So it looks like I'll be spending tomorrow getting my gear out of the shed and ready to rip some lips.
I cant fish on saturdays with work all day. but just my 2 cents. lots of fish at Pawtuckaway and well enough room for parking and lots of room for boats on the water. i got back into fishing last year (kids)
12+ years ago and for 15 years before that this place was great. i assume it still is.
Going to have to bail on the get together.
It's going to be a tough year for fishing this year I think. The job is taking up alot of time, and with the new baby and the three year old, I just don't have the ability to take of for a day of fishing as often as I have in the past.
Hope everyone does well out there
I vote for Pawtuckaway but I don't have a boat.
Well, I'm officially not gonna make this one. The Easter egg hunt for my son and his cousins has been moved from Sunday to Saturday at 2:00. Not happy. Have fun, guys. Sorry I can't make it.
That's too bad Shane, but it sounds like it's for a good reason.
I drove by Stumpfield today, and the water level is VERY high right now. It must be due to the recent rain. The road is also still closed to anything but local traffic.
It looks like it might get a little warmer this week, but I think no matter where we go we are looking a some very cold water temps at any lakewe go to. How do people feel about pushing this out a couple weeks until 5/7/11. That would give the water a little time to warm up and make the fishing a little better. I'm willing to give it a shot, but I think the temps will be in the 40's there due to the high water. I might have a potential conflict this weekend as well, so it would be better for me to push it out a couple weeks.
Regardless, I'll do whatever you guys want to do.
That is too bad.. I will be out Saturday as i already took the day off from work.
-matt-
I'll be in Va that weekend, fishing Briary Creek Lake, and getting things ready for the Reel American Heroes Foundation tournament on May 21st and 22nd on the Potomac.
That weekend would work better for me. If we go any farther from here than Stumpfield this weekend I'm not sure I'll be able to make it. Just too long of a drive for me. I have to be home fairly early.
I would be game for pushing it back. Water temps are quite low here as well in Southeastern part of the state. A few more weeks and they should warm up considerably.
pushing it back works for me. that means 2 days snowmobiling in pittsburg just became 3.
Pushing it back works for me as well because clr9933 cant go any more, so I wouldn't have a boat to be in. Hey badcrawdad, how much snow is left in Pittsburg still?
Well, the consensus is that we should push it back. I'm really sorry Matt that you already took the day off.
I'll start a new list soon with everyone who can make it.
I won't be able to make it on 5/7. I have the weekend off from work, but I have military duty that weekend.
good think we pushed it back. It's snowing here.
